Welcome to the Remarkable Branding Podcast with Heather Murphy and Amin Ahmed. In episode, we’re introducing the first season of our podcast where we focus on Brand Fundamentals.
We hear over and over again that a brand is not just your logo - and this season explains what that really means. We’ll explore historical context and discover how it brand building is a human process. We’ve been doing it since the beginning of time!
Your logo doesn’t dictate the moves you make in your business, your brand soul does. When we become branders, we become storytellers. It’s important to tell those stories because it helps customers know, like and trust us - which directly impacts sales!
Knowing the foundations and connecting with your brand purpose can help:
re-energize you if you’ve been feeling stagnant in your business,
stand out against your competition, and
allow your clients to connect with you.
Let’s explore the origins of branding together!

Speaker:
Hey, Heather, how's it going today?
Speaker:
Good.
Speaker:
How are you?
Speaker:
Amin?
Speaker:
I'm awesome.
Speaker:
I'm really excited about today's episode because we're going to
Speaker:
be introducing our first season.
Speaker:
So Heather, if you wouldn't mind telling us a little bit about what season
Speaker:
one is going to be on this podcast.
Speaker:
Well, I'm really excited about season one, because we're going to be talking
Speaker:
about the fundamentals of branding.
Speaker:
And I'm so passionate about branding and understanding and looking back to
Speaker:
some of the roots of how it started, how it got to where we are today, and
Speaker:
actually understanding the landscape of the kinds of brands that are alive and
Speaker:
well in this world is really important.
Speaker:
So that's where we're going to go today.
Speaker:
That's awesome.
Speaker:
you know, I love branding because I learned very early on that your
Speaker:
logo is not your brand and that's something that I always thought about.
Speaker:
And that's always something that people would tell me is that, you know, your
Speaker:
logo defines everything else you do.
Speaker:
I don't think that's true anymore.
Speaker:
So Heather, would you mind telling us a little bit about, what your
Speaker:
idea of branding is, and then also how that ties into your business.
Speaker:
So my idea of branding really is that it comes as the spirit of your business,
Speaker:
you know, and that can sound a little bit woo, but we all have a soul and a mood
Speaker:
and a character character to our business.
Speaker:
And, when we get to dive into branding, it's like we get to go into that
Speaker:
playground and we become storytellers as branders and as businesses who.
Speaker:
Are focused on building a strong and solid brand.
Speaker:
And the reason that that's so important is it ties directly into
Speaker:
your sales because human beings need to be able to differentiate
Speaker:
between businesses and products, and they need to feel that a product or
Speaker:
service or a business is trustworthy.
Speaker:
So we want people to know like, and trust us, and that ties
Speaker:
directly into our bottom line.
Speaker:
So branding is so important because it is the thing that tells us your story
Speaker:
and tells the soul of your business so that people will buy from you.
Speaker:
And we all know you can't run a business without sales.
Speaker:
It's like the blood and the veins of the creature.
Speaker:
Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more.
Speaker:
And that's actually why we decided that we're going to focus season one
Speaker:
entirely on the fundamentals of branding.
Speaker:
It's not going to be just talking about the visuals.
Speaker:
It's not going to be talking about, like I said, your logo, but we're going to
Speaker:
dive deep into how branding ties into your marketing, how it ties into your
Speaker:
sales as Heather just mentioned, and also how you can use it to your advantage.
Speaker:
It's to stand out because in the end we want you to be remarkable.
Speaker:
And that's something that we're really passionate about sharing
Speaker:
our thoughts as how you can become remarkable through your brand.
Speaker:
Yeah.
Speaker:
And I mean, you know, we were talking about this, not too long
Speaker:
ago, it can get discouraging.
Speaker:
Especially in the middle of a global pandemic.
Speaker:
Wondering why are we doing this?
Speaker:
Why are we running these businesses?
Speaker:
Why are we hustling so hard?
Speaker:
And in the face of all kinds of restrictions, things can start
Speaker:
to feel daunting, but it's really exciting when you think about
Speaker:
why you're building a brand or what's the point of your business.
Speaker:
that brand can be your impetus to keep going and to remember why you
Speaker:
got it in the first place, if you'll come into that playground with us.
Speaker:
That's perfect.
Speaker:
And just minutes ago, before we started recording this, I was reading an article
Speaker:
about Facebook, which is now called meta and how they change their core values.
Speaker:
And it's actually really interesting that mark Zuckerberg initially would
Speaker:
always say that their core values was.
Speaker:
Um, move fast and break things.
Speaker:
And that was the way that they did things move fast and break
Speaker:
it and move fast and break it.
Speaker:
And that's what they did now.
Speaker:
It's move fast, but focus on community, focus, how we can make
Speaker:
ourselves better focus on how we can stand out and think into the future.
Speaker:
You know, that ties in perfectly with a bit of a wrap-up for today's episode,
Speaker:
where we're going to be sharing a lot of thoughts about the fundamentals
Speaker:
of branding, which includes the evolution of how branding came about
Speaker:
the age of limbic brands, which I know Heather is really excited about.
Speaker:
And we're also going to be talking about how communities tie in to the whole idea
Speaker:
of branding and how you can grow your community as a result of a strong brand.
Speaker:
Yeah, it's so exciting because branding is so connected to human nature, right?
Speaker:
From the way our brains work to the way that we do create communities around us.
Speaker:
So we're so happy to have you here with us, and we hope that you are ready
