Enjoy a special episode with Oscar Manzo, the winner of the 2016 Counter Professional of the Year. This is my first interview with a Counter Professional of the Year honoree.  Babcox Media has recognized an outstanding counter professional for the last thirty-one years.

Counter Pro’s are so important to our industry.
Counter professionals are the unsung hero’s of our industry. Their parts knowledge makes it possible to move parts throughout our aftermarket system and bring the expectations to the service professionals to satisfy their customers.

I met Oscar and his wife Susana at AAPEX 2016 as he was enjoying the accolades of his special honor.

Entire career as a parts specialist.
He is an Installer Service Specialist and inside commercial rep for O’Reilly Auto Parts. Oscar has worked for O’Reilly Auto Parts for over 27 years.  He started as a part time cashier and transitioned into full time sales within one year of employment. He loves his everyday interaction with his customers.

Doing the extra.
He says the ‘extra mile’ means researching those tough situations and finding hard to find parts and completing customer orders. He will reach out to alternative resources to find a specific part.  He has a never say no attitude. Oscar always keeps an open mind when working with his customers.

Oscar talks about the needs of his service professional customers along with the changes he has seen over the years. He also talks about what he loves most about his job.

Family.
Family time is very important to Oscar. He enjoys family outings and special dinners to keep in touch with each other’s plans.

Community.
He and his wife Susana participate in many events to help support the non-profit organizations in their local areas; to help serve the less fortune throughout his community. This is a way to stay humble and thankful for what he has.  He and Susana have been married for over 20+ years with two beautiful kids and grandchildren.

Oscar believes in treating people how you want to be treated. “We are all one and should be treated equally”, he says.
