Speaker:

The future of podcasting is already here.

Speaker:

It's just unevenly distributed.

Speaker:

And while it certainly is an access problem for many, it's often just

Speaker:

a problem of apathy or laziness, which is good news for all of you!

Speaker:

Today's episode is brought to you by the Advancing Podcasting

Speaker:

community at advancingpodcasting.xyz.

Speaker:

Because why would I do anything normal?

Speaker:

It's a special community just for listeners and readers of

Speaker:

Podcast Pontifications and it's populated by like-minded working

Speaker:

podcasters just like you who also want to make podcasting better.

Speaker:

You're already listening to the show.

Speaker:

So why not extend the conversation and your influence

Speaker:

on the future of podcasting?

Speaker:

Join us today at advancingpodcasting.xyz.

Speaker:

Hello, and welcome to another Podcast Pontifications with me, Evo Terra.

Speaker:

What happened to all these things that were supposed to change everything?

Speaker:

These tech advancements that were supposed to usher in a brand new era of podcasting?

Speaker:

I mean, remember all the hype surrounding GTP-3?

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

That used machine learning and other deep knowledge algorithms and whatever

Speaker:

to come up with text automatically.

Speaker:

A robot could come up with text.

Speaker:

And the promise, or at least the idea of that, was that it would change

Speaker:

the way that we wrote the scripts for podcast and lots of other content

Speaker:

that would go into our podcasts.

Speaker:

But in reality, I don't hear about it all that much anymore.

Speaker:

Though, I do know that some podcasters are using it in a limited

Speaker:

fashion headline generation, and maybe some social media copy.

Speaker:

But beyond that, I don't hear that much any longer.

Speaker:

Then, there's the drop-in or the social audio app that was

Speaker:

going to replace podcasting.

Speaker:

Remember that?

Speaker:

That was the big thing, whether it was Clubhouse or Greenhouse

Speaker:

or Firehouse or whatever else.

Speaker:

These were going to come in and we were no longer going to be podcasting.

Speaker:

Well, those tools and those networks still have their adherents, obviously,

Speaker:

and new ones are launching all the time, but hasn't really been a big

Speaker:

disruptor in podcasting just yet.

Speaker:

I don't know.

Speaker:

Maybe we're too early.

Speaker:

Maybe that's going to come later.

Speaker:

Now, this reliance on and hype around new things isn't anything brand new.

Speaker:

I mean, I can remember being on stage at Podcast Movement back in

Speaker:

2014, where someone was trying to argue with me that Stitcher was

Speaker:

going to revolutionize podcasting.

Speaker:

Stitcher!

Speaker:

You know, today's breathless enthusiasm - of which I have contributed greatly to,

Speaker:

I fully admit that - is on Podcasting 2.0, the namespace changes that are

Speaker:

coming, as well as the magic that companies like Descript keep cranking out.

Speaker:

But keep this in mind most podcasters aren't going to use these tools

Speaker:

either because they can't or whatever reason, most podcasters don't

Speaker:

even know about these advances.

Speaker:

Most podcasters out there are very happy with their own idea

Speaker:

of what the status quo is now.

Speaker:

Actually, I think that's good news for podcasters like you and me

Speaker:

for a couple of different reasons.

Speaker:

Number one.

Speaker:

It means that we who do like to adopt and try out these new tools and see how

Speaker:

they can change our overall workflow.

Speaker:

We don't have to rush into things.

Speaker:

We don't have to make a mad scramble to get there before everybody else

Speaker:

does, because that cool new thing, as cool as it is, history says is not

Speaker:

going to have a super fast adoption.

Speaker:

So you're probably not going to be left out in the cold.

Speaker:

If you take your time to evaluate and integrate the tool, whatever

Speaker:

this new thing is, workflow.

Speaker:

Second thing.

Speaker:

It makes it easier for us to stand apart because most podcasters won't or

Speaker:

can't be bothered to even look at it.

Speaker:

When we finally do integrate this new cool tech, which takes our

Speaker:

podcast one level up, that's just one more thing we are doing better.

Speaker:

Our shows will sound better, reach people more easily or whatever

Speaker:

they benefit of this new thing is it'll work out better for us.

Speaker:

So my message to you as my backup turn to the Pacific ocean from

Speaker:

Mike temporary relocation and too much cooler climates, eh.

Speaker:

Well, let's embody some of this stuff, Jill out, take a breath, find a way to

Speaker:

work in the cool new thing that works or you, but you have time, you know, time.

Speaker:

We're a week away from pod rev day options the first Wednesday of every month.

Speaker:

If I have that right.

Speaker:

And I'm pretty sure that I do pod rev day is a fantastic

Speaker:

way for you to show the love.

Speaker:

Of the podcasts that you listened to on a regular basis.

Speaker:

I'm a recent convert to pod rev day.

Speaker:

And I honestly think you should be as well.

Speaker:

So if you've not yet heard of it, go to pod rev day.com to get more information

Speaker:

about how you can participate and keep this good work going forward.

Speaker:

Now, if you've got any value from the thoughts and ideas I shared on

Speaker:

today's program or a peer previous program, be sure to return that value

Speaker:

to me@buymeacoffee.com slash Evo Tara.

Speaker:

That's it.

Speaker:

I shall be back tomorrow from beautiful San Diego with yet

Speaker:

another Podcast Pontifications.

Speaker:

Cheers!
