Today, we continue our conversation with our guides Dr. Charmain Jackman and Deran Young. Charmain is a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience, including in schools, with children, youth, and families involved with social services and the juvenile justice system, and as Dean of Health & Wellness for a Boston public school. She is the founder and CEO of InnoPsych, Inc., an organization dedicated to disrupting racial inequities in mental health. Dr. Jackman is an expert consultant on topics including racial trauma, burnout, and employee emotional wellbeing. She has won several awards. including the 2021 American Psychological Association’s Citizen Psychologist Award and City of Boston’s 2021 Innovator of The Year award. Dr. Jackman has been featured on national media, including the New York Times, NPR, and the Boston Globe, and is a regular contributor to the PBS Teachers Lounge column.

Deran is a licensed therapist, New York Times Best Selling Author, retired military mental health officer, and the founder of Black Therapists Rock, a non profit organization that includes over 30,000 professionals committed to reducing the psychological impact of systemic oppression and intergenerational trauma. With a current social media audience of over 100,000 followers, Deran has become a leading influencer and public figure committed to spreading mental health awareness and improving health equity. Deran, with her 10 year old son, is a world traveler, and has visited over 37 different countries, including clinical experience that spans across four different continents.
