Speaker:resources, and the support you need to grow your gift biz.
Speaker:Here is your host gift biz gal,
Speaker:Sue moon Heights.
Speaker:Hi there,
Speaker:And if you're listening the day this podcast goes live,
Speaker:it's new year's Eve the last day of the year.
Speaker:So super exciting.
Speaker:I hope you have wonderful plans and that you have a
Speaker:safe, fun,
Speaker:festive and happy new year's Eve.
Speaker:So obviously the new year is upon us and for many
Speaker:it's a marker in time to make a change,
Speaker:to start fresh,
Speaker:to reset our ways and to jumpstart dreams.
Speaker:We've been thinking about and putting off over and over again.
Speaker:This all sounds amazing,
Speaker:doesn't it?
Speaker:A new future that aligns with what you want,
Speaker:a chance to turn into reality,
Speaker:the achievement and the lifestyle you've had in your mind's eye
Speaker:for a long time.
Speaker:The truth really is you can make this change at any
Speaker:time in any day or month of your life,
Speaker:but for some reason the rollover of the calendar makes it
Speaker:all seem more possible.
Speaker:There's newfound optimism and hope.
Speaker:This is the year I'm gonna do it this time.
Speaker:Sound familiar?
Speaker:Unfortunately, you know what happens to new year's resolutions within a
Speaker:month or two,
Speaker:their history and you're back to your old ways.
Speaker:I see this at my health club every year.
Speaker:If you're a member of any type of fitness organization,
Speaker:I bet you see the same thing in January.
Speaker:My spin class is completely packed because everyone has decided to
Speaker:get fit and healthy this year.
Speaker:If I don't book my bike early,
Speaker:I may not get a spot,
Speaker:but by March it's back to the regular spinner and it
Speaker:stays that way for the rest of the year.
Speaker:I've been good at keeping up with my spinning,
Speaker:but I've been saying I'm going to start doing yoga or
Speaker:Pilates for the last two years.
Speaker:Still haven't gone to my first class and I'm telling myself
Speaker:this year will be different.
Speaker:You see,
Speaker:I'm just like you in this regard.
Speaker:I've discovered,
Speaker:however, the reason new year's resolutions aren't followed through on is
Speaker:that it really has nothing to do with the resolutions at
Speaker:all. It has to do with something much harder.
Speaker:It has to do with your mindset,
Speaker:what you tell yourself in your head where nobody else can
Speaker:listen in.
Speaker:It's about what you think you deserve and then the excuses
Speaker:you make up to stay in the comfort zone of your
Speaker:life, whatever that is for you.
Speaker:This is where affirmations come in.
Speaker:Affirmations are the language of the brain and are known to
Speaker:tap into your unconscious thinking.
Speaker:You see,
Speaker:when you think a thought,
Speaker:your brain processes that information is true and set you up
Speaker:to react accordingly.
Speaker:As a result of that thought,
Speaker:let me say that again.
Speaker:When you think a thought,
Speaker:your brain processes the information as true and then sets you
Speaker:up to react accordingly.
Speaker:As a result of that thought and there's more,
Speaker:your brain is constantly looking for clues in your environment to
Speaker:confirm your thoughts and guide your actions.
Speaker:It can pick up on any available influence.
Speaker:For instance,
Speaker:let's say a customer comes back with a return or complains
Speaker:that your prices are too high,
Speaker:you mentally processed this information and the result is you begin
Speaker:to question and probably undervalue your skills.
Speaker:That translates into reducing prices or even worse,
Speaker:pulling back on promoting and other business building activities or if
Speaker:someone looks at you funny,
Speaker:you read that to mean at something negative about you as
Speaker:a person that you are a fake or not capable of
Speaker:doing what you're doing.
Speaker:These thoughts lead to counterproductive emotions,
Speaker:self doubt and then playing it safe.
Speaker:All these subconscious fears and doubts can side swipe your new
Speaker:year's resolutions and plans for self-improvement.
Speaker:Luckily you can do something about this.
Speaker:The good news is your brain is eager to set you
Speaker:up for success.
Speaker:All you have to do is instructed by telling it the
Speaker:right things.
Speaker:This is why positive affirmations are so powerful.
Speaker:By speaking to yourself incorrectly worded statements,
Speaker:your brain will activate everything you need to make 2019 the
Speaker:very best year.
Speaker:Yet think of affirmations as the way you speak to yourself.
Speaker:That then becomes the way you show up in the world
Speaker:and the way you show up in the world affects your
Speaker:outcomes. So my gift to you as we enter into the
Speaker:new year are five affirmations to make 2019 the best year
Speaker:ever. I want you to say these to yourself every day.
Speaker:Put them in your daytimer or tape them to your mirror
Speaker:so you can see them while you're brushing your teeth.
Speaker:They're also going to be included in my new planner coming
Speaker:out within a few weeks and I'm going to talk about
Speaker:that more at the end of the show.
Speaker:For now,
Speaker:let's get into the affirmations and see how they can change
Speaker:your life.
Speaker:Are you ready?
Speaker:Here's your first affirmation.
Speaker:There is nobody in this world just like me.
Speaker:Therefore, I am special,
Speaker:unique and valuable.
Speaker:Obviously people come in all shapes,
Speaker:sizes and colors.
Speaker:No one person is exactly the same as another,
Speaker:not even identical twins.
Speaker:Just think of this like snowflakes.
Speaker:We are all so different and in so,
Speaker:so many ways how we look,
Speaker:how we move,
Speaker:our voices,
Speaker:our personalities,
Speaker:everything. It's pretty remarkable.
Speaker:If you really think about this,
Speaker:you are a being that has never been made before and
Speaker:never will be again.
Speaker:That is something to acknowledge with pride.
Speaker:Celebrate your uniqueness,
Speaker:the natural you in all your glory.
Speaker:The thing is people respond in kind to how you present
Speaker:yourself. So if you show up with shoulders slumped,
Speaker:talking in a meek voice and using verbiage like,
Speaker:um, maybe you'd be interested in whatever it is,
Speaker:you get a completely different reaction.
Speaker:If you show up,
Speaker:standing tall and proud with your chest up and shoulders back
Speaker:and you talk with excitement and conviction and say something like,
Speaker:my product will provide you with or will help you to
Speaker:do and you speak with confidence.
Speaker:You see,
Speaker:we teach people how to react to us.
Speaker:So that means by changing how we act,
Speaker:we change the results that starts with acknowledging and believing.
Speaker:In this first affirmation,
Speaker:there is nobody in the world just like me.
Speaker:Therefore, I am special,
Speaker:unique, and valuable as an extension of this comes affirmation.
Speaker:Number two,
Speaker:I'm in this world to do something important that only I
Speaker:can do.
Speaker:You may be thinking,
Speaker:well, if that's true,
Speaker:why don't I know what it is that I'm supposed to
Speaker:do? Being part of my audience of gifters,
Speaker:bakers, crafters and makers,
Speaker:you have a special talent that you've gravitated to and love.
Speaker:Most likely you've selected that specific skill because it comes naturally
Speaker:to you and it brings you fulfillment and satisfaction.
Speaker:It's so easy to undervalue your creative tendencies because it comes
Speaker:so naturally to you,
Speaker:but I bet you've also noticed that not everybody can create.
Speaker:Some people just don't have it in them.
Speaker:It's not what they're here to do,
Speaker:but you,
Speaker:if it's effortless and it brings you joy,
Speaker:this may be what you're meant to do.
Speaker:Another hint at what your reason for being is can be
Speaker:found in what people regularly compliment you on or a personality
Speaker:trait that you're known for.
Speaker:I have a dear friend Cathy,
Speaker:who I met in college.
Speaker:She is one of the most giving people I have ever
Speaker:known. It isn't the type of giving that is servitude or
Speaker:anything. She's a confident,
Speaker:happy go lucky,
Speaker:loving life kind of a girl,
Speaker:always a smile on her face,
Speaker:a jovial addition to every party and always willing to go
Speaker:out of her way to help someone.
Speaker:Today she is an executive director of a continuum of care
Speaker:campus helping seniors find a safe and joyful place to live.
Speaker:Do you see how her way of being in this world
Speaker:has translated over into now what she does for a living?
Speaker:Another friend who used to be on one of my sales
Speaker:teams is better than anyone I've ever known when it comes
Speaker:to interacting with people.
Speaker:She was keeping in touch and connecting with others before she
Speaker:was even trained to do so.
Speaker:The whole network training thing,
Speaker:Chris has maintained a top sales position in every company.
Speaker:She's worked for.
Speaker:She sought after,
Speaker:and dare I say,
Speaker:fought over because of the skill.
Speaker:Rarely does she change companies because loyalty is another trait of
Speaker:hers, but when she does,
Speaker:it's because someone has approached her and her compensation gets better
Speaker:and better.
Speaker:Her natural abilities with interpersonal skills turn into sales and results
Speaker:skills that come easily could hold the key to your most
Speaker:fulfilling way of working in this lifetime.
Speaker:When you do something that comes naturally,
Speaker:you are a star at it.
Speaker:Let's just say that the stars aligned like new year's fireworks.
Speaker:Okay? Okay.
Speaker:Let's move on to affirmation.
Speaker:Number three.
Speaker:I have the power to create my life however I want
Speaker:it to be.
Speaker:This hasn't always been the case.
Speaker:Back even a few short decades ago,
Speaker:there was much more resistance to doing anything other than the
Speaker:traditional lifestyle that everybody followed.
Speaker:I think of the lifestyles portrayed on the Mary Tyler Moore
Speaker:show, the Brady bunch or the holiday classic.
Speaker:It's a wonderful life.
Speaker:Culture and industry wrote the rules back then.
Speaker:The man worked outside of the home,
Speaker:and I'll even be more modern here too.
Speaker:Let's say the woman also went to work.
Speaker:The point is they went to work for someone else.
Speaker:There was never the thought of doing your own thing.
Speaker:This is a recent cultural advancement and you are so lucky.
Speaker:You have the power now more than ever to act on
Speaker:this opportunity.
Speaker:You don't have to ask someone's permission and since it's acceptable
Speaker:today, there is more support than ever before.
Speaker:If this is something you're motivated to pursue,
Speaker:you don't need to ask.
Speaker:You just need to get started,
Speaker:but in case you're still hesitant,
Speaker:let me give you permission here and now permission granted,
Speaker:affirmation number four,
Speaker:I already have everything I need to reach my dream.
Speaker:You do.
Speaker:You know the only person limiting your progress and achievement is
Speaker:you. Excuses are just that.
Speaker:See me in logical barriers preventing you from moving forward and
Speaker:who makes the excuse?
Speaker:It's you and me.
Speaker:I've done this too.
Speaker:Here are some common excuses.
Speaker:I don't have the information I need.
Speaker:Well, if that's the case,
Speaker:then access the internet or someone else in your area who
Speaker:has your answer?
Speaker:How about this one?
Speaker:I'm not sure which way to go start somewhere and the
Speaker:road will become clearer as you go if you don't have
Speaker:a lot to invest.
Speaker:Start with what you have and work forward as you can.
Speaker:Nothing happens with inactivity and the only one setting up barriers
Speaker:is you,
Speaker:so just don't.
Speaker:This is why the first two affirmations are so important.
Speaker:They set you up to feel you are deserving,
Speaker:which then motivates you to go out and find what you
Speaker:need to make these things happen.
Speaker:Again, it's all about taking action and I guess here I'll
Speaker:touch on this whole fear of failure thing.
Speaker:Guess what?
Speaker:As you find what works and lead you to your dream,
Speaker:you are going to fail.
Speaker:It is 100% guaranteed and you are going to fail a
Speaker:lot. Actually you'll fail more than you win.
Speaker:That is the process.
Speaker:When you see successful people in businesses,
Speaker:you see what's working,
Speaker:you see the products that they're selling and the methods and
Speaker:the actions that got them there.
Speaker:What you don't see are the many,
Speaker:many things they tried before they got to where they are
Speaker:today. So as we talk about mindset,
Speaker:I want you to reframe your thinking on this whole failure
Speaker:thing. I want you to change your programming to say you're
Speaker:running experiments.
Speaker:Think back to high school science class.
Speaker:You try something,
Speaker:you analyze the results and if it works,
Speaker:you're good to go.
Speaker:But if it doesn't work,
Speaker:then you make adjustments and you try again.
Speaker:This manner of thinking will help you dare to take action.
Speaker:What's the worst that can happen?
Speaker:You'll get some new learnings and get closer to what will
Speaker:actually work.
Speaker:You all ready have everything you need to reach your dream.
Speaker:And finally affirmation.
Speaker:Number five,
Speaker:I am strong,
Speaker:capable, and determined.
Speaker:What's that?
Speaker:You say nobody in your family has done this before.
Speaker:Of course,
Speaker:not times have changed.
Speaker:The opportunities are different now.
Speaker:It's possible you're the leader in these new endeavors and you
Speaker:may meet some resistance because it's different.
Speaker:That's okay.
Speaker:This is a new way of thinking for many family members
Speaker:included and that little inner voice that whispers all the negative
Speaker:thoughts create a corner for her to go sit sideline her.
Speaker:She's going to be a pest and try to get in
Speaker:the defeatist mind game constantly.
Speaker:Every time she does banish her back to her corner and
Speaker:don't listen to her.
Speaker:You have the ability to deal with this way of thinking
Speaker:often called imposter syndrome.
Speaker:We all have it.
Speaker:It will never go away,
Speaker:but you can learn to put it in its place and
Speaker:not let it stop you.
Speaker:Continue to say to yourself,
Speaker:I am strong,
Speaker:capable, and determined and truly know that you are.
Speaker:If you have other people in your life who are downers
Speaker:or naysayers,
Speaker:limit the time you spend with them or decide that they
Speaker:don't get to have a place in your life.
Speaker:Have you heard Jim Rhones quote?
Speaker:You are the average of the five people you spend the
Speaker:most time with.
Speaker:Those in your immediate environment will rub off on you.
Speaker:Do you want them to be negative,
Speaker:defeatist, pessimists,
Speaker:or motivating opportunistic supporters?
Speaker:I bet you're with me and go for the second group.
Speaker:Every time.
Speaker:The people who you allow in your life are totally up
Speaker:to you,
Speaker:so make sure there are people who move you forward with
Speaker:positive encouragement.
Speaker:Let's review these five affirmations.
Speaker:Again, this is what I want you to say to yourself
Speaker:out loud every day.
Speaker:There is nobody in this world just like me.
Speaker:Therefore, I am special,
Speaker:unique, and valuable.
Speaker:I'm in this world to do something important that only I
Speaker:can do.
Speaker:I have the power to create my life,
Speaker:however I want it to be.
Speaker:I already have everything I need to reach my dream.
Speaker:I am strong,
Speaker:capable, and determined,
Speaker:and as you say this to yourself,
Speaker:feel, believe and know that it is true to stay consistent
Speaker:and ensure that you do this every day.
Speaker:Build it into your routine.
Speaker:Consistency is key every single day.
Speaker:This activity of stating affirmations is simple,
Speaker:but don't underestimate how it is.
Speaker:I've also summarized these five affirmations on the show notes page
Speaker:for you to access.
Speaker:Jump over to gift biz,
Speaker:unwrapped.com forward slash affirmations.
Speaker:I also mentioned earlier,
Speaker:a planner that I'm creating.
Speaker:These affirmations will be included in that planner that I have
Speaker:coming out in just a few short weeks.
Speaker:This is a special project I didn't think I'd bring forward
Speaker:until later in the year,
Speaker:but when I see opportunity I jump and that's exactly what
Speaker:happened here.
Speaker:This is just a little teaser,
Speaker:but if you're looking for a new planner like no other
Speaker:out there and you want to be one of the first
Speaker:ones to know when it's available,

Speaker:a bright future with all the 2019 holds in store.
Speaker:Set yourself up to make it your best year ever.
