This month, our featured story comes from Chuck, where he tells the story of Agassi and

Roddick in an exciting 3.5 battle of 70 and overs playing against BridgeMill and their

very distracting crowd of available old ladies.

Our first USTA 3.5 70 and Over match was against BridgeMill.

They graciously agreed to host as our home courts were occupied by the Reinhardt University

tennis team.

Out of 11 players, only 6 were available, but they were well trained, well-coached, and

ready for action.

BridgeMill must have announced we were coming to their entire neighborhood as a bunch of

unmarried 70 year old plus women showed up with cookies and hat tea.

I particularly liked the one that bought a 24 pack of Modelo Especialle Lear.

All three lines started at the same time.

Bob Ambil played line 3.

They gave the opposing team their 1-2 punch combining finesse with power.

They paraded off the court in a lively fashion with an easy win of 6-2-6-1.

Line 1 and 2 were engaged in his lug fests.

We knew that the key to winning was powerful baseline shots combined with short ballies near

the net.

Or at least, that's what our pro Tom Cobb told us.

Steve and Neil played a band-up game.

Neil hit some powerful shots from the baseline while Steve guarded the net like a hug.

They were overrun in the first set 6-3, but took it to a tiebreaker in the second set.

Unfortunately, the outcome was an in their favor and they lost 7-6.

Chuck and Tom played line 1.

They had played together so much that everyone knew them as Agacy and Rodic.

They didn't adapt the world to court conditions in the first set and lost 6-3.

Tom attributed the loss to stumbling on all the contact cards they were thrown at him by

the 70-year-old bridge meal woman.

After Tom picked up all the cards and arranged them in alphabetical order, we played an outstanding

second set.

Before you knew it, we were up 3-0 and our opponents were totally mystified.

So were we.

Our opponents came back strong to tie the match at 5-0.

Because when someone yelled, the beer is almost gone.

It sent both Tom and Chuck into a panic as our thoughts were trained on how to get at least

one bottle of beer.

It just goes to show that tennis is 60% physical and 40% mental.

We lost 6-3 and 7-5.

But we did get the last bottle of beer.
