Melissa Deally:

Welcome back to another episode of health hack as I continue talking about the importance of sleep, and how it impacts your immune system. And today, I want to talk about how improve sleep through impacting your immune system is also resulting in improved cardiovascular health and lower blood pressure. And in fact, there has been research done about the impact of going on daylight savings, and how that actually is triggering more than the normal amount of heart attacks, following going on daylight savings, the Sunday and the Monday after going on daylight savings when we all lose an hour sleep. This was research done by hospitals in Michigan as well as their studies in Finland as well. And then the flip side happens when we fall back and go off daylight savings, and we have more sleep than when they actually hospitals are actually seeing less heart attacks. So when we go on daylight savings, the Monday after doing that, they're seeing an increase of 24% more heart attacks. And when we go off daylight savings, and we get the extra hour of sleep, they're seeing 21% Less heart attacks. So every year they're seeing that correlation between just the difference in one hour of sleep on our cardiovascular health. So hopefully that's another reason for you to start to take your sleep seriously and literally plan your schedule around your sleep to ensure that you are actually getting enough sleep. And if you're not sure how much sleep you should be getting go back to episode number 391 Because in that episode I highlighted for you by age, how much sleep you should be getting on average every night.
