Transcripts
Speaker:
The other day I was working on a client's web development project.
Speaker:
They asked us to build a complex website, which included some very
Speaker:
complicated functionality and required some custom programming.
Speaker:
In the past.
Speaker:
I would've spent hours doing research, watching endless YouTube tutorials
Speaker:
and a lot of trial and error.
Speaker:
However, I came to the realization that there's a much better and faster
Speaker:
way to accomplish the same thing.
Speaker:
I could hire an expert.
Speaker:
In this episode, I'm going to discuss how to become an expert and why
Speaker:
doing so can become very profitable.
Speaker:
I'm amid Ahmed.
Speaker:
Welcome to be.
Speaker:
Well do well.
Speaker:
Experts fascinate me since I was a child.
Speaker:
I always marveled at those who could paint or perform music or shoot
Speaker:
hockey pucks with extreme precision.
Speaker:
They were the true professionals and experts in their craft.
Speaker:
In the professional world.
Speaker:
Being an expert can really set you apart.
Speaker:
Imagine for a minute, if you just launched a business and needed some help with
Speaker:
marketing, would you rather hire an agency that specialized in your niche and could
Speaker:
anticipate your needs before you did?
Speaker:
Or would you rather hire somebody that dabbled in marketing in their spare time?
Speaker:
The former may cost you 10 times more, but could get you your results.
Speaker:
The latter may not cost very much, but they'll also not be worth your time.
Speaker:
So how does one become an expert and charge 10 times
Speaker:
more than their competitor?
Speaker:
Here are three strategies that will help you become an expert in your field.
Speaker:
The first and mostly widely known is the 10,000 hour rule.
Speaker:
popularized by Malcolm Gladwell in his book outliers, the 10,000
Speaker:
hour rule states that 10,000 hours is the magic number of greatness.
Speaker:
So, what this really means is that you need to be serious about
Speaker:
what it is that you're practicing and the beauty of practice.
Speaker:
Is that this is something you enjoy, that you do every day
Speaker:
and you do it for a long time.
Speaker:
For example, musicians will practice for upwards of eight hours a day.
Speaker:
I once knew a piano teacher who practiced for eight hours and then also taught
Speaker:
that is a true devotion to your craft.
Speaker:
The next strategy is to teach at our agency.
Speaker:
Remarkable branding.
Speaker:
Our internal motto is to out teach the competition when
Speaker:
you're teaching something, you're actually learning it twice.
Speaker:
As I've mentioned before, in a previous episode, we have two young
Speaker:
kids and it's amazing to watch our six year old daughter learn a new skill
Speaker:
and then teach it to her friends.
Speaker:
In fact, one of her passions is to record herself drawing and
Speaker:
posting those tutorials on YouTube.
Speaker:
When you learn the first time you're acquiring the basics and the
Speaker:
fundamentals, but when you teach, you're forced to learn the fine details.
Speaker:
This is the idea behind becoming a learner twice.
Speaker:
The last strategy I wanna talk to you about is staying ahead of the curve.
Speaker:
Did you know that more than 500 hours of content are uploaded
Speaker:
to YouTube every minute?
Speaker:
Let me say that again.
Speaker:
500 hours every minute.
Speaker:
That's just wild.
Speaker:
So staying ahead of the curve is absolutely critical to becoming an expert.
Speaker:
Now I'm not suggesting that you spend all day watching YouTube videos,
Speaker:
rather I'm proposing that you follow thought leaders in your industry.
Speaker:
Sometimes a seemingly small piece of information can make a huge
Speaker:
difference in your business.
Speaker:
So as a recap, here are the three things that you can use
Speaker:
to make yourself into an expert.
Speaker:
The first is practice the 10,000 hour rule.
Speaker:
Now I think this is a general rule, but 10,000 hours tells you that
Speaker:
you need to be practicing a lot.
Speaker:
The next strategy is to.
Speaker:
What you learn now, if you've learned something and you teach it, you're
Speaker:
gonna be learning this twice and you're going to understand the fine
Speaker:
details, the nuances behind it.
Speaker:
And the last strategy is staying ahead of the curve.
Speaker:
There are so many resources available right now that there's no excuse.
Speaker:
Most of these are free, and if they're not free, you can probably find a
Speaker:
course on TMY or on think if, and you'll be able to learn what you
Speaker:
need to know to stay ahead of the.
Speaker:
I hope this has been helpful.
Speaker:
Join me tomorrow, where I'll be talking about the power of batching,
