So after graduation, hopped on a plane from Boston, got down here last night, and then was presenting to our our partners that we had this morning in a in a in a meeting.

Earlier part of my career was on like the service provider side, so we built all sorts of systems for streaming video. If you ever use video on demand in your house, you browse your cable box. You wanted to watch something. When you wanted to watch it, you press play. Built a lot of that stuff. Hold

Can can AI watch a video?

Kind of. So an AI can absolutely review a live video stream that's coming in from a camera, and provide information based on the signals that it sees in that video. It sees somebody smoking a cigarette in a place that they're not supposed to be. It sees somebody, you know, smashing on a door. It sees an environmental hazard, so we can detect those signals. You know, as part of the the just the AI quote unquote watching the video. Absolutely, what it what really we're trying to do is is bring all of those signals together to put some context around the situation. Right? Maybe it's okay for that guy to be smoking there. Maybe it's normal that during a rainstorm water collects in this area, and that's fine. But what's not normal is smoke in an area where people aren't supposed to be smoking, or water in an area where there is not expected to be water. And that's the thing that we're working on today: is trying to get the software to learn, not not just read the signals in the video, but actually learn what's normal and what's not normal, put some context around it, and then tell you, hey, something Scott is happening out of context, and you should know about it.

an opinion. All I just know is like, yeah, there you go.

Yeah, yes, opinions vary. Yeah, and opinions vary, especially depending on where you are in the globe, we do a lot of our so good example. This we use a lot. We do a lot of business in Europe. In Europe, facial recognition is generally frowned upon. And and again, I'm not arguing on which side of the the aisle you want to be on. Just as a matter of fact, privately identifiable information like your face is generally is generally frowned upon in use, and and in many you know governments and companies it's forbidden. You know an example of this is if you we have customers that are in the retail space, you want cameras in the break room because you want to see if there's something weird happening, maybe there's a fight or an employee has, or something. Yes, but what we are required to do is mask faces from those camera views. So that's you know well practiced, well known capabilities. In other parts of let's just say the U.S. facial recognition is a very widely used you know technology. It really depends on the environment. It depends on the situation. Depends on the context. But yeah, we definitely have Big Brother conversations.

It's interesting because you you guys are a global company, and and again, there are certain rules and regulations that exist in various parts of the world that you just have to be knowledgeable about and and be able to do it. What is always interesting, and you can definitely answer this question. It just seems because I'm being driven by Hollywood, and Hollywood's telling me that they can get videos and all this stuff. And but it's always lousy quality video.

So it's funny because you know as the as the AI world has has has advanced, the ability to interact with it using less technical means has progressed remarkably. So now I can you know as as you can you can now interact with with the systems using very natural language-based queries. Hey, is there a dangerous situation happening in my office? If so, please let me know. Instead of having to say, oh, if this, then that, then do this, then do this, then do this. Right, right, right, right, right. And so, really, the the system will react. The system is at the point now where things will. React to how how well your your language is structured, basically. So I can sort of it's like it's like a situation where I can make it tell me whatever I want to make it, right? The question is, is I've got to learn how to structure my questions and my alerts in a way that actually makes sense and provide the context around what I'm trying to do because otherwise it will tell me everything, which is not useful at all either, right? So the the the good news is you know we take a lot of measurements in the system to make sure the integrity of the video never changes. So something that we capture from a camera when we store it and then potentially gets used as future evidence in a theft or a lawsuit or anything like that. We take very strong measures in our system to basically make sure that the integrity, the chain of custody, if you want to call it that, right, is really perfect from the moment we captured it to the moment it goes somewhere else, so that there is no room for slop, for lack of a better term, to get introduced in the system. That that's one of the things that you know we sort of pride ourselves on because it's super important. You've got to be able to trust what comes in and what comes up. A

lot of the conversations that that is happening here is is the the integration of all of this wonderful tech in some way, shape, or form from an industrial perspective, being able to communicate, pull the data, provide insights-all of that wonderful. It's all great. I don't get me wrong. I think it's good. I think it's tremendous lifting. There's a lot of heavy lifting. How do you see the the physical Security component, working in and and interacting with some of the other applications that are within the family of Octave Technologies.

So, look, your your your the industry slogan that you have right is is a perfect example, right? We are we are industry. For a long time, physical security existed as like a thing that happened in a closet somewhere. There were some cameras.

they connected to something, and then some dude sitting in like a or dudette sitting in a in a in a closet somewhere like sat in front of this video wall and was like constantly watching what was going on, right? And it was this, like, oh yeah, those people over there, and that has changed, I think, pretty significantly over the last couple years. If you think of it, a camera is a sensor, like anything else. If I'm building a factory and I'm making machines or I'm doing machinery or something, I've got all sorts of sensors and electrical wires and conduits and all sorts of things that help me build whatever it is that I'm building. And you have sensors in that system that tell you if what you're building is going to come out right. I've got pressure gages. I've got levers and whistles and bells. I got all sorts of things that tell me, hey, yeah, this widget that you're going to produce or this thing that you're going to produce, this energy or whatever, it's going to come out the way you expect. A camera, for us, is just another sensor that provides validation on what's going on. So what we see happening is, as the industry progresses, things that were in the kind of operational side of things, making sure the stuff that I built worked right and had the right quality, they're now bringing in the physical security world for for two reasons. One is the camera is a great sensor. There's something going wrong. My gage is telling me it's off. My reading is telling me it's off. Oh, odds are I probably have a camera in that very expensive manufacturing facility, that can actually look at what's going on and say, "Is something wrong there? So there's visual confirmation. That's one. And then the second thing is, the world is very expensive when mistakes happen, especially in these high-intensity environments, manufacturing environments, things like that. It's very expensive, costly to make mistakes, And a very a secure infrastructure, a secure facility, greatly reduces the risks of those mistakes happening. People people being in places and getting hurt where they shouldn't be, you know, things like that. And so we see these worlds are converging in a way that we haven't seen before. And the people that kind of lived in this isolated physical security world are now sort of in the mainstream operations in these places.

It's an interesting future. It's it's got it's got. I wish I was younger, and I wish I wish wish I would about 25 like you are, and with all of this great conversations that's taking place within the within Octave, and and being able to innovate more. What does that future hat look like for your your business? Where are we going with this?

I think where we're going is for a long time. These big industries were were built and then constructed and operated and then ultimately what we say protected, and they were four very different parts of the life cycle of that company. Hey, I've got a bunch of people. We're going to design this place. Okay, great. Here are the plans. Now I've got a bunch of people here. We're gonna go build this place, and the plans were handed off, and something was built. And then, hey, I'm gonna now we're gonna now that this thing is built, we're gonna go operate it. We're gonna go use it, and there were some things that were handed off from one to the other. And then the last step was, oh yeah, you know, we spent a lot of money building this thing and designing this thing. All of a sudden, we should probably make sure it's safe or it's protected. And those were like, you know, somebody somewhere, some team somewhere else, some team somewhere else, some team somewhere else, and in between all of those spaces, tons of information is lost. How do you do this? How do you do that? We designed it this way so that we thought you could operate it this way, and what what what I see is that those now become this constant loop of always improving the business from all from the design phase all the way to the protect part, and you improve it little steps along the way, and that will make for a much more sustainable and healthy business as opposed to kind of how things used to be done and then handed off like a like a baton, you know, at the Olympics and the track meeting, these are just going to be a continuous race that you run.

Yeah, the holy grail is to be able to take all the data that you could possibly imagine, being able to bring it into some sort of a common platform, wherever that is, slap some algorithms and AI solutions on it, contextualize it, and then allow me to be successful. And that's that's a that's a tremendous amount of work.
