Welcome to This Daring Adventure podcast,
where we work on bridging the gap between
2
:where we are and where we want to be in
order to live a bigger and bolder life.
3
:In this podcast, we will provide
inspiration, tips, and skills
4
:you need to make your life the
adventure you want it to be.
5
:Here's your host, mindset mentor
and life coach Trista Guertin.
6
:Trista: Hey everybody, welcome
back to This Daring Adventure.
7
:Unfortunately, just before I sat
down to record this episode, my
8
:allergies flared up, and so I'm
sounding a little bit stuffed up.
9
:I apologize.
10
:I don't know why this
happened, but here it is.
11
:So I'm just going to.
12
:I'm just going to go with it.
13
:Before we start, I wanted to let
you know that on November 27th,
14
:I am holding another masterclass.
15
:I did the breaking through
barriers, taking purposeful action
16
:webinar masterclass this week.
17
:And I love doing these classes.
18
:It was a lot of fun.
19
:and I sent out the recording for
those who couldn't make it live.
20
:So I am doing another
one on the 27th at 2 p.
21
:m.
22
:Eastern time.
23
:It's the Get Unstuck Masterclass.
24
:So if you are feeling stuck but you want
to move forward, the, if you're tired
25
:of the frustration, the overwhelm, the
exhaustion, Then we're going to take an
26
:hour and we're going to go through why you
get stuck and my process for helping you
27
:move through it and out of it for good.
28
:You never have to stay stuck.
29
:You never have to be stuck again.
30
:I will introduce you to my program,
the six week jumpstart to building
31
:a better relationship with yourself,
because that is the foundation.
32
:For everything you want
to create in your life.
33
:And it's definitely the
key to getting unstuck.
34
:So I will go through that.
35
:And that's November 27th again at 2 p.
36
:m.
37
:Eastern time.
38
:I will be putting the link to
register in the show notes.
39
:You need to register in advance.
40
:And then if you can't make it
live, you can catch the replay.
41
:I will share that when I'm done.
42
:The other thing, I have created a mini
course on overcoming limiting beliefs.
43
:Limiting beliefs are the stories, the
thoughts that we keep on thinking.
44
:Sometimes we've been thinking them
for decades and they're not helpful.
45
:And they hold us back and
they keep us playing small.
46
:So something like, I
don't have what it takes.
47
:I'm not good enough.
48
:It's too old.
49
:Or I'm too old.
50
:All of these things that make us
feel terrible when we think them,
51
:and then we don't take the action
that we know we want to take.
52
:And these limiting beliefs are often just.
53
:a running soundtrack in our head.
54
:They're on a loop.
55
:Probably we're not very conscious
of how many times we think them and
56
:they just repeat and repeat and we
don't realize that They're optional.
57
:And so I've designed, it's
just a tiny little mini course.
58
:You can do it on your phone in about
20 minutes and it just goes over how to
59
:identify your limiting beliefs and then
how you can start to shift them, how you
60
:can start to shift away from them and
create new beliefs that are helpful and
61
:that will serve you and that will move you
forward because a belief is just a thought
62
:you keep on thinking.
63
:So we have to do a little bit of work
to rewire those neural pathways in
64
:your brain that keep these old limiting
beliefs on a loop in your head, in your
65
:mind, but it's totally possible to do
and I have a few tips and exercises
66
:you can do to start to do that.
67
:And it's important work.
68
:It's part of the process to
getting unstuck for sure.
69
:The link for that will be
in the show notes as well.
70
:And then finally, I am offering free
30 minute mini coaching sessions.
71
:These are a great opportunity
for you to get some support
72
:on any issue that you wish.
73
:The coaching we'll do is about 20
minutes long, which may not seem like
74
:a lot, but trust me, you can get some
powerful shifts done in that time.
75
:And it helps to get that support.
76
:A lot of times, we think we just
can manage on our own and just
77
:keep doing what we're doing.
78
:But the truth is, if you keep
doing what you're doing, you'll
79
:continue to get the same results.
80
:And while, yeah, you can continue
to work on the issue or the problem,
81
:whatever it is that you have.
82
:But Imagine just having that extra
support and how that can move you forward.
83
:So I will put the link to the show notes.
84
:I will put the link to my calendar
in the show notes and you can
85
:sign up for a mini course.
86
:And you can sign up for a mini session
then, think of it as just as you might
87
:go to the gym and hire a trainer,
you know that when you hire a trainer
88
:to help you work out and to give you
guidance, it is because it's you.
89
:It's a lot easier and faster to get
started and that you have a greater chance
90
:of reaching your goals with the expert
support, accountability and structure.
91
:And that's what coaching does.
92
:So here's your opportunity
to try that out for yourself.
93
:And it's a lot of fun.
94
:And I look forward to meeting you there.
95
:All right, let's dive into the episode.
96
:And so today the episode
is on refusing confusion.
97
:the most common obstacles I
see with my clients is their
98
:tendency to indulge in confusion.
99
:Confusion is an indulgent emotion.
100
:It's not necessary.
101
:And we start to use, I don't know, as our
default mode, whether it's about starting
102
:a business or changing jobs or deciding
what they want in life, whether they
103
:want to stay in a relationship, whether
they want to move houses, whatever it is.
104
:And this state of
indecision feels necessary.
105
:It feels important, and it
might even feel productive.
106
:But in reality, it's
indulgent and it's unhelpful.
107
:Problem with confusion is
that it keeps us in limbo.
108
:It's robbing us of momentum and time.
109
:It prevents action and forward
progress because it feels safe
110
:to stay stuck in I don't know.
111
:But here's the truth.
112
:There are no wrong decisions.
113
:What makes a decision wrong?
114
:It's simply our judgment about it.
115
:There's no right or wrong.
116
:Instead, we can choose to see every
decision as a part of our unique path.
117
:It's how you're going to choose
to think about your decision
118
:and the results that you obtain.
119
:When we embrace our past choices
and stop labeling them as mistakes,
120
:we cultivate trust in ourselves.
121
:We have our own back.
122
:And then this trust empowers us to
make decisions now, knowing that we'll
123
:have our own backs no matter what
124
:happens.
125
:We know that if something happens,
we won't beat ourselves up.
126
:We won't criticize ourselves,
we won't judge ourselves.
127
:We will be able to handle any emotion
and we will learn from it, It's not going
128
:to be something that we're going to make
into a disaster or that necessarily has
129
:to stop us from going after what we want.
130
:Why is being decisive so important?
131
:Why do we want to get out of
confusion as quickly as possible?
132
:Here are four reasons.
133
:First of all, it saves time.
134
:Every moment spent in
confusion is time wasted.
135
:Not making a decision is, in
fact, and in itself, a decision.
136
:And it keeps you stuck.
137
:Imagine how much more productive
and intentional your life could be
138
:if you stopped postponing choices.
139
:Second, it increases action.
140
:Indecision often leads to inaction.
141
:We consume more information.
142
:We procrastinate.
143
:We distract ourselves instead
of taking steps forward.
144
:What happens?
145
:We're scrolling on social media.
146
:We're looking for the next course.
147
:We're watching TV.
148
:We are stuck in our own heads and
wasting time instead of taking the
149
:action that will move us forward.
150
:But the moment we make a
decision, we create clarity
151
:and we open the door to action.
152
:And this action is where
learning and growth happens.
153
:Third, it drives growth.
154
:Growth comes from expanding your
experiences, and this only happens
155
:when you decide and you act.
156
:Confusion shrinks our world.
157
:Decisiveness, on the other
hand, allows you to embrace new
158
:opportunities and challenges.
159
:Fourth, it builds confidence.
160
:Confidence is the by product
of taking consistent action and
161
:following through on decisions.
162
:Think about how empowered you feel when
you commit to something and stick with it.
163
:Confidence grows as you trust yourself
to handle the outcomes, good or bad.
164
:And I would add a fifth one, that is it is
empowering and it's also freeing, right?
165
:Moving out of confusion, taking
a decision, moving yourself
166
:forward, makes you feel lighter.
167
:It makes you feel empowered.
168
:It makes you feel stronger, it does take
a weight off of your shoulders for sure.
169
:So how can you move out of
confusion and into decisiveness?
170
:First, I would remove history bias
and ask yourself, if I were starting
171
:fresh today, would I choose this job,
this relationship, this situation?
172
:Don't let the past dictate your decisions.
173
:Think about it from today.
174
:You don't have to go back to that
time where you started, but think
175
:about, would you choose it today?
176
:Would you choose it again?
177
:Do you want to keep it?
178
:Then, imagine both options.
179
:Whatever you're trying to decide
between, they both turn out amazing.
180
:Both paths can lead to success.
181
:Which one excites you
or aligns with you more?
182
:if you knew both would turn out
okay, what would you choose?
183
:Then you always want to reframe failure.
184
:What if failure wasn't a big deal?
185
:And instead of seeing failure or fearing
failure, see it as an opportunity to win
186
:or learn.
187
:There's always an opportunity to
learn, evaluate what's happened,
188
:learn from your experiences, and then
apply that knowledge going forward.
189
:And it can be very
empowering and very helpful.
190
:Next.
191
:Consider saying yes to both.
192
:Sometimes it's not about
choosing one thing or another.
193
:Can you explore ways, and this is
a great exercise for your brain to,
194
:give it a task, give it something
to think about, and explore ways to
195
:integrate both options creatively.
196
:You'd be surprised if
you put your brain on it.
197
:If you ask it that question,
how can I say yes to both?
198
:what it might come up with.
199
:Next, you can consult your future self.
200
:Some of the future self work is
so much fun and it's so powerful.
201
:Can you imagine yourself
10 years from now?
202
:What advice would your wiser future
self give you about this decision?
203
:And if you can sit and just imagine
this, take some time, maybe write
204
:it out, you'd be amazed at what
information you could get from this.
205
:Next, set a deadline.
206
:Decisions don't take months, they take
moments, Give yourself a clear deadline,
207
:make the decision, and then commit to it.
208
:But a lot of people say that, it
took me weeks to make that decision.
209
:No, you make a decision in an instant.
210
:It you wallowed in confusion for
weeks, but you decided in an instant.
211
:So you can decide quickly and
effectively if that's what you want.
212
:Next, ask what would love do?
213
:This simple question can
provide profound clarity.
214
:Love might mean leaving, it might
mean staying, or it might be
215
:stepping into discomfort for growth.
216
:Love for yourself, love
for the other person.
217
:You can apply this in many different
ways, but if it seems it feels relevant
218
:to you, it can be a very helpful question.
219
:Next, move toward who you want to be.
220
:Discomfort and fear aren't
reasons to avoid action.
221
:They're often signs that
you're on the right path.
222
:Most of the time, we're going
to be experiencing discomfort.
223
:Either we experience the discomfort of
stagnating, staying the same, indulging
224
:in confusion, not moving forward.
225
:Or, we experience the discomfort of
growth, of learning, of change, and
226
:that moves us towards who we want to be.
227
:It moves us towards evolving
and growing and becoming the
228
:next version of ourselves.
229
:Finally, For each option, evaluate
the best and worst outcomes.
230
:You'll often find that the
worst case scenario is missing
231
:out on the best case scenario.
232
:Think about that.
233
:The worst case scenario is missing
out on the best case scenario.
234
:you never know how things
are going to turn out.
235
:And it's equally true, you could
experience the best case scenario
236
:as the worst case scenario.
237
:And our brain tends to focus and fixate
and predict the worst case scenario.
238
:But we have a just as equal chance of
having the best case scenario work out.
239
:And imagine how amazing that will be.
240
:So don't let your brain drag you
down that rabbit hole of fixating
241
:on the worst case scenario.
242
:Imagine both.
243
:Imagine that they can both be
experienced, they could both happen,
244
:and that it could be pretty amazing
if the best case scenario happens.
245
:Confusion.
246
:is indulgent.
247
:It's not necessary.
248
:It's not helpful.
249
:It doesn't move you forward.
250
:Making decisions is powerful because
they will shape the course of your life.
251
:When you stop indulging in confusion, You
save time, you take meaningful action,
252
:you grow, you'll build your confidence.
253
:Every decision you make is a step
toward the person you want to become.
254
:Learn to trust yourself, commit to your
choices, and know that you're always
255
:capable of living into the possibility.
256
:You're capable of
creating an amazing life.
257
:Let's go.
