Gift Ms.
Speaker:Unwrapped episode 329.
Speaker:Today is a very special episode because I'm going to share
Speaker:with you the blog challenge,
Speaker:winners, Attention,
Speaker:gifters bakers,
Speaker:crafters, and makers pursuing your dream can be fun.
Speaker:Whether you have an established business or looking to start one.
Speaker:Now you are in the right place.
Speaker:This is gift to biz unwrapped,
Speaker:helping you turn your skill into a flourishing business.
Speaker:Join us for an episode,
Speaker:packed full of invaluable guidance,
Speaker:resources, and the support you need to grow.
Speaker:Your gift biz.
Speaker:Here is your host gift biz gal,
Speaker:Sue moon Heights.
Speaker:Hi there,
Speaker:and thanks for joining Me today on a variation of the
Speaker:traditional podcast format.
Speaker:As you may recall,
Speaker:a few months ago,
Speaker:I did an episode with Kate.
Speaker:Kordsmeier about the benefit of having a blog as a product
Speaker:business that was show number 321,
Speaker:and has gotten a lot of attention.
Speaker:Go back and listen to that one.
Speaker:If you haven't already,
Speaker:because it will lay the groundwork for what I'm sharing today.
Speaker:Now you can stay and listen to this first,
Speaker:but the other show gives you a deeper dive with the
Speaker:details and benefits of blogging for your handmade product business.
Speaker:Anyway, at the end of that show,
Speaker:I presented a challenge post a blog article dated after the
Speaker:airing of that episode and tag me over on Instagram,
Speaker:the first 10 people to do so would be the winners
Speaker:along with a prize that was all spur of the moment.
Speaker:And two things were running through my mind first.
Speaker:Maybe I should have only said five instead of 10,
Speaker:because would there even be 10 people to do this?
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:it's a big challenge given blogging.
Speaker:Isn't something typically connected with product sales.
Speaker:And second,
Speaker:I had no idea what the prize was going to be,
Speaker:but I could wing that much to my surprise by the
Speaker:deadline date.
Speaker:I had eight people follow through,
Speaker:which I have to say was completely impressive.
Speaker:And I decided the best prize that I can give is
Speaker:to get more eyeballs on their businesses because after all,
Speaker:this is the big value of blogging visibility to your business
Speaker:and that visibility isn't just for the day,
Speaker:the article goes up,
Speaker:but ongoing evergreen content,
Speaker:if you will,
Speaker:just like podcasts are.
Speaker:And I want to note,
Speaker:this is in complete contrast to social media posts that if
Speaker:you see them at all are organically visible for a few
Speaker:minutes or maybe a couple of hours.
Speaker:So today I want to present you with each of the
Speaker:winners, their business,
Speaker:and the article that won them a spot on show.
Speaker:Also, I'm going to share a little bit about the content
Speaker:in their articles because each one is so different and highlights
Speaker:a best practice or to my hope is that it will
Speaker:motivate you to start blogging again,
Speaker:go back to that other podcast,
Speaker:to understand why,
Speaker:and if you thought about it,
Speaker:but you aren't sure what you'd write about this will definitely
Speaker:help you get inspired and have those creative idea juices flowing,
Speaker:because remember it's action.
Speaker:That brings results,
Speaker:not just thinking about it,
Speaker:right? Okay.
Speaker:Drum roll.
Speaker:Here Are our eight blog challenge winners.
Speaker:And to my delight,
Speaker:there are three people who started a blog as a direct
Speaker:result of this challenge.
Speaker:Oh, that makes my heart so happy.
Speaker:First up is Michelle James of uniquely made for more.
Speaker:Her gift basket business has been around for a long time,
Speaker:seven years to be exact.
Speaker:The article she chose to lead with addresses the need customers
Speaker:have that her business solves it's titled is a gift giving
Speaker:challenging. I'm sure you can answer.
Speaker:Yes. She then goes on to outline ways you can make
Speaker:your gifts memorable and significant for your recipient.
Speaker:So your gift doesn't come across as a last minute thought,
Speaker:which we all know results in a random gift in doing
Speaker:this. Michelle provides value to her reader beyond what her business
Speaker:offers, the final and what she calls ultimate solution is to
Speaker:buy one of her gift baskets while I don't endorse being
Speaker:directly self promotional in all of your blog articles as a
Speaker:starting point,
Speaker:and to acquaint people with your business,
Speaker:right from the beginning,
Speaker:I think it works nicely.
Speaker:This is also an article that she can link to in
Speaker:emails or on social media posts with content about how to
Speaker:pick the perfect gift.
Speaker:Our next first-time blogger is Gloria Brown of our land woman
Speaker:herbals her business plays off of her Caribbean roots as she
Speaker:handcrafts plant-based remedies for health and home wellness and botanical organic
Speaker:skincare she's led workshops to teach others how to craft their
Speaker:own products to Gloria sells at craft fairs on consignment and
Speaker:also holds her own vendor fair twice a year in collaboration
Speaker:with a fellow herbalist Gloria's first article is called what's the
Speaker:tea. It's a wonderful initial topic because she shares her personal
Speaker:journey into actually starting a blog.
Speaker:Gloria writes as if it's a letter to a friend,
Speaker:very personable and casual,
Speaker:and you'll see,
Speaker:she just draws you in.
Speaker:She also sets expectations for her readers by explaining what we'll
Speaker:discover. If we follow her articles,
Speaker:quote, tidbits and information on the wonderful world of plants that
Speaker:are growing all around us,
Speaker:but we tend to ignore then catch this.
Speaker:The plan is to take us on a tour of her
Speaker:backyard and neighborhood to enlighten us to the wonderful world of
Speaker:plants. I love this so much because we'll learn about plants
Speaker:that are accessible to us.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:we don't need to go to a Botanic garden to see
Speaker:these things they're right outside our front doors.
Speaker:Gloria has laid the groundwork for so many topic options,
Speaker:all along a theme that relates to our products,
Speaker:which of course she can then link to text or photos
Speaker:within her blog.
Speaker:Gloria says that the hardest part of this challenge was getting
Speaker:the tech down.
Speaker:But now that she's conquered that she's already published her second
Speaker:article and is even getting fancy with video.
Speaker:She's now on a roll and consistency is going to be
Speaker:key. Good for you,
Speaker:Gloria. Our next blogger newbie is Linda Stevens of the gunny
Speaker:and his wife.
Speaker:Isn't that a unique and curious company name.
Speaker:It tells you a lot about her,
Speaker:right from the start and comes from the combination of two
Speaker:lives. Her husband,
Speaker:Michael, a Marine now living in a civilian world and Linda
Speaker:who describes herself as a serial entrepreneur and maker,
Speaker:they provide modern high quality customized merchandise.
Speaker:So think decor,
Speaker:accessories, and gifts.
Speaker:The vision is to become a licensed us Marine Corps provider.
Speaker:Linda sells on Etsy,
Speaker:her own website and wholesale,
Speaker:and is in the middle of revising and rebranding her Shopify
Speaker:site right now.
Speaker:So her article titled not ready start anyway is perfect.
Speaker:She says,
Speaker:she's been thinking about a blog for a while now,
Speaker:but wondered if they were relevant anymore.
Speaker:After hearing our conversation in the podcast about Google search advantages
Speaker:and the value of adding content to your website overall,
Speaker:and what it can do for your visibility.
Speaker:She was in her first post is short and sweet,
Speaker:but it got her going.
Speaker:She decided to set a timer and write what a great
Speaker:idea she calls this post.
Speaker:Ron honest for that moment because things weren't perfect,
Speaker:but she was starting.
Speaker:And since then catch this,
Speaker:she's written two more articles with a very aggressive goal of
Speaker:weekly blog posts.
Speaker:Danes Linda's is very conversational and reminds me of how people
Speaker:wrote when journal blogging first came out,
Speaker:it's refreshing and fun.
Speaker:You get a true sense of Linda's personality in these short
Speaker:posts. And I'm looking forward to watching what comes next.
Speaker:Moving on.
Speaker:We have Lonna Smith of Nene's crochet works with an article
Speaker:titled summer accessories,
Speaker:pattern Roundup.
Speaker:As the name implies,
Speaker:she makes crocheted items,
Speaker:both wearable and home accessories.
Speaker:While she doesn't have a website yet she's selling on Instagram
Speaker:and currently hosts her blog on Blogspot.
Speaker:This can be integrated into our website at any time when
Speaker:it becomes available,
Speaker:she uses a fabulous approach of storytelling about how she accessorized
Speaker:her outdoor patio space.
Speaker:The color inspiration came from her outdoor cushions.
Speaker:And from there she's planned out.
Speaker:Her creative works from mug rugs to place mats and even
Speaker:a water bottle holder with a cell phone pocket,
Speaker:loaner sheers links to 12 pattern designs.
Speaker:She's discovered on her search to accessorize her personal space,
Speaker:roundups lists,
Speaker:best of all,
Speaker:these types of articles highlighting other businesses is a wonderful pay
Speaker:it forward strategy.
Speaker:It gets you attention with these brands.
Speaker:And in some cases,
Speaker:they'll share that article to their community,
Speaker:bringing attention back to you,
Speaker:of course,
Speaker:and it helps your reader because you've done the work for
Speaker:them in terms of finding resources by doing this Lona positions
Speaker:herself as a go-to connection for crochet tips,
Speaker:resources and advice,
Speaker:because she's been helpful since this article Lona has published two
Speaker:more. I think we've jumped,
Speaker:started her blogging program from the challenge.
Speaker:Yay. Now share with you Margaret Esposito.
Speaker:Canticos who has an online gift shop called artful creations,
Speaker:which offers customized products of all sorts.
Speaker:Her article.
Speaker:Don't worry about those gifts.
Speaker:I got you is a short uplifting I've come to your
Speaker:rescue type piece.
Speaker:She brings up all sorts of occasions where a gift might
Speaker:be needed and the anxiety that mounts,
Speaker:because let's face it,
Speaker:finding a gift can be overwhelming with everything else we have
Speaker:going on in life.
Speaker:Her continual phrase throughout the piece is I've got you.
Speaker:So she talks a little bit about a challenge and says,
Speaker:I got you.
Speaker:And then she shares a little bit more about what can
Speaker:be an obstacle and gifts it's giving.
Speaker:And then she says,
Speaker:I got you.
Speaker:And she can hear,
Speaker:can use this throughout her article and important thing.
Speaker:I want to point out here that Margaret does so nicely
Speaker:is present where her product can be a solution,
Speaker:potential customers don't always come with a problem on their own.
Speaker:So she suggests it.
Speaker:Yeah. Need a gift mailed,
Speaker:have an upcoming graduation,
Speaker:bridal shower,
Speaker:new homeowner that you need to acknowledge this kind of thing.
Speaker:Often trigger an idea that results in a sale.
Speaker:If options are ideas,
Speaker:aren't presented the connection between having a problem and your product
Speaker:being the solution.
Speaker:Most times doesn't happen using a blog to get this message
Speaker:out is a great move.
Speaker:Now, let me tell you about Christina.
Speaker:Savasna been in business since 2012,
Speaker:with her freelance design and illustration work.
Speaker:Chris, the creative her company started two years ago and now
Speaker:focuses on laser cutting,
Speaker:which has taken off for her in a big way.
Speaker:Her article takes us through her backstory of leaving a project
Speaker:management position to go off on her own.
Speaker:She walks us through her journey of understanding what her market
Speaker:wants to her offerings and the adjustments she had to make
Speaker:as the world changed in 2020.
Speaker:I'm not going to give you her whole story here because
Speaker:you can read it in the blog,
Speaker:but by sharing her experiences,
Speaker:Chris shows the reader that she can relate to life's opportunities,
Speaker:struggles, and shifts,
Speaker:particularly for a customer who is a small business owner.
Speaker:Then she presents what has become her ticket to getting sales
Speaker:and growing Krista creative.
Speaker:She's found that local business and selling through face-to-face connections by
Speaker:networking and in-person shows has paid off best.
Speaker:So she shares her tip around what has made her successful
Speaker:and brought in sales complete with a bullet list of important
Speaker:business. Building points.
Speaker:Since her post went up,
Speaker:Chris is thrilled because she seen people commenting on what she
Speaker:wrote. I'm sure this will motivate her to keep going.
Speaker:A side note that Chris told me is that when she
Speaker:was in high school,
Speaker:she failed art.
Speaker:Can you believe it?
Speaker:It had been her dream as a little girl to have
Speaker:her own business.
Speaker:And art was her passion and her love.
Speaker:She was told that she would never make it as an
Speaker:artist. Good thing.
Speaker:She didn't listen since Chris,
Speaker:the creative is a thriving business based on her original designs
Speaker:and creations.
Speaker:There's a lesson in here for all of us and Chris,
Speaker:maybe this is another blog post next.
Speaker:I can't wait to tell you about Amanda Klinger burger's story.
Speaker:This is one courageous woman with a solid eye towards strategic
Speaker:action. Before I explain Amanda is the owner of Linden square,
Speaker:a full service gifting company.
Speaker:She started her online business in the fall of 2019,
Speaker:and then took a short break after the holidays,
Speaker:smart move.
Speaker:Get those seals in during the best part of the year,
Speaker:then take a break,
Speaker:regroup and move forward.
Speaker:Little. Did she know so that when she reopened in February
Speaker:of 20,
Speaker:20 funny three weeks later,
Speaker:may ham would strike when it did.
Speaker:It could have been really easy for her to deliver or
Speaker:quit, but not Amanda.
Speaker:As I said,
Speaker:strategic, she pivoted from was going to be a strong focus
Speaker:on wedding planners and meeting pros to working with small companies
Speaker:and individuals on their client and virtual event gifts that got
Speaker:her through 20,
Speaker:20 fast forward to the present where she's pivoted again,
Speaker:as we reopen she's switching from working with small,
Speaker:primarily female entrepreneurs like coaches,
Speaker:speakers, and influencers to targeting larger corporate clients,
Speaker:to assist with their employee and client gifting challenge changes.
Speaker:What I want you to note here is the planned and
Speaker:specific approach.
Speaker:Amanda took with her business based on what was going on
Speaker:around her without taking in and adjusting to these cues.
Speaker:Her business might have looked very different today.
Speaker:If it existed at all,
Speaker:I know it has nothing to do with blogging,
Speaker:but it's a fabulous example of how to stay relevant and
Speaker:offer what's needed by your audience at any given time.
Speaker:In Amanda's case,
Speaker:she adjusted her target market as business activities and our world
Speaker:shifted. Okay,
Speaker:let's talk about her blog.
Speaker:It's title.
Speaker:Why outsourcing your corporate gifts?
Speaker:Just make sense.
Speaker:Notice that this topic speaks directly to her newly defined audience
Speaker:corporate. When you get to her article,
Speaker:you'll see a gorgeous photo,
Speaker:which gives an immediate impression of quality and style needed to
Speaker:attract her right customer.
Speaker:If her photo was blurry,
Speaker:the product mismatched to her topic or any gap in perception,
Speaker:it would affect the impression of her business in the eye
Speaker:of her reader.
Speaker:But Amanda is spot on.
Speaker:You can instantly see Linden square stands for quality and style.
Speaker:Her article tells the story of all the steps.
Speaker:Someone would have to take on their own to send a
Speaker:gift like what they can easily purchase through Linden square right
Speaker:now. And this is no exaggeration,
Speaker:but most don't know all the steps involved,
Speaker:specially a marketing or HR manager of a large corporation.
Speaker:She plays off all the decision points and action steps that
Speaker:need to happen.
Speaker:And once her perspective,
Speaker:corporate customer understands this.
Speaker:It's pretty obvious that taking an employee's time to do their
Speaker:gifting onsite is not the best choice,
Speaker:much better to job out and ensure a gift job well
Speaker:done. Amanda's goal with her blog is to her business as
Speaker:a leader and authority in her industry with her blog,
Speaker:she's definitely making that happen,
Speaker:bringing it home is our final blog challenge winner Cassie mento
Speaker:offer of Cassie's country.
Speaker:Cupboard. I have to say as a regular customer,
Speaker:her mixes are incredible.
Speaker:My hubby asks for the garlic and beer bread specifically,
Speaker:and I know I always have to keep it in.
Speaker:Stock goes great with homemade Despacito in the summer,
Speaker:by the way Cassie's business mission is offering pantry items to
Speaker:help you get healthy meals on the table without losing your
Speaker:sanity. And this positioning is working.
Speaker:She's celebrating 10 years in business and recently constructed a separate
Speaker:building on her property,
Speaker:dedicated to a production and order fulfillment.
Speaker:Cassie sells through farmer's market craft shows and online.
Speaker:She's also a vendor at the virtual at home craft and
Speaker:gift show.
Speaker:She tells me she was thinking about starting a blog after
Speaker:a recent podcast I did on Pinterest,
Speaker:not sure which one,
Speaker:because we've done two recently,
Speaker:number 2 81 and three 19,
Speaker:if you're interested.
Speaker:And then the blog challenge podcast solidified her idea and she
Speaker:made it happen.
Speaker:Cassie, you know how happy this makes me her article is
Speaker:called, keep your kitchen cool and covers seven tips on how
Speaker:to do exactly that.
Speaker:She also has a great image to get you in the
Speaker:mood for reading or maybe eating because she's showing her Fiesta
Speaker:roll-ups that include her Fiesta,
Speaker:seasoning in the tips.
Speaker:She links to various things that she's referencing.
Speaker:Sometimes it's a product from pampered chef.
Speaker:For example,
Speaker:other times it's her YouTube channel,
Speaker:where she shares recipes.
Speaker:And then on occasion,
Speaker:it's directly to her product.
Speaker:So you can buy it.
Speaker:All these links provide SEO strength,
Speaker:of course,
Speaker:but they're also not ever salesy.
Speaker:They're more helpful than anything else which keeps the reader interested
Speaker:and involved.
Speaker:Another thing I love about this article is her ending call
Speaker:to action.
Speaker:Keep an eye on my Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Speaker:I'll be posting more ideas all summer long.
Speaker:What a great way to stay connected with readers,
Speaker:build her social media following and provide continuing value to her
Speaker:community all at the same time.
Speaker:And Cassie gets an extra bonus shout out because she was
Speaker:the first one to grab a spot in this challenge.
Speaker:You have to go and check out her mixes seriously.
Speaker:Okay. There you have it all.
Speaker:Eight of our blog challenge winners,
Speaker:all our blog challenge,
Speaker:winners and links to their articles are in the show notes.
Speaker:I've intentionally kept this podcast a little bit shorter.
Speaker:So it gives you time to go take a look,
Speaker:read their articles and see the various styles and approaches.
Speaker:I'd also love for you to support these fabulous women comment
Speaker:on their articles,
Speaker:give them a follow on social or purchase one of their
Speaker:products. And of course,
Speaker:if you haven't started a blog yet,
Speaker:wait no longer take just a portion of time.
Speaker:You spend on social and dedicated to a project that will
Speaker:work for you.
Speaker:For years.
Speaker:Each article you post is like making a deposit into your
Speaker:visibility bank account.
Speaker:Remember if people don't know you exist,
Speaker:they can't possibly purchase from you up next week.
Speaker:I have a very fun lighthearted,
Speaker:but value packed episode that you're going to have to just
Speaker:wait and see what the topic is.
Speaker:But what I will tell you is I was laughing at
Speaker:our guest and our guest was laughing at me all in
Speaker:good fun.
Speaker:Of course.
Speaker:If you found this podcast valuable,
Speaker:will you do me a favor go over to your podcast
Speaker:app of choice,
Speaker:subscribe to the show and leave a rating and review.
Speaker:That's so helpful and encouraging for me as a podcaster because
Speaker:your paying it forward,
Speaker:allowing other people to see the show as well and now
Speaker:be safe and well.
Speaker:And I'll see you again next week on the gift biz
Speaker:unwrapped podcast.
Speaker:Yes, it's possible increase your sales without adding a single customer.
Speaker:How you ask by offering personalization with your products,
Speaker:rapid cake box with a ribbon saying happy 30th birthday,
Speaker:Annie, or at a special message and date to wedding or
Speaker:party favors for an extra meaningful touch.
Speaker:Where else can you get customization with a creatively spelled name
Speaker:or find packaging?
Speaker:That includes a saying whose meaning is known to a select
Speaker:to not only are customers willing to pay for these special
Speaker:touches. They'll tell their friends and word will spread about your
Speaker:company and products.
Speaker:You can create personalized ribbons and labels in seconds.
Speaker:Make just one or thousands without waiting weeks or having to
Speaker:spend money to order yards and yards print words in any
Speaker:language or font.
Speaker:Add logos,
Speaker:images, even photos.
Speaker:Perfect for branding we're adding ingredient and flavor labels.
