Speaker:I've been doing a really fantastic four day course.
Speaker:Out of the U S unfortunately it means I've had to get up at
Speaker:midnight every single night.
Speaker:And the course runs from about 13, 14 hours a day.
Speaker:So it's been an interesting few days.
Speaker:Uh, but uh, really got so much out of it that I hopefully can
Speaker:share with you in the weeks ahead.
Speaker:Now, today.
Speaker:Is it really simple message.
Speaker:The YouTube version will be here too.

Speaker:But today, I want to talk about the issue of getting up off the canvas.
Speaker:There are so many times in life when we can genuinely feel beaten down.
Speaker:If you pay attention to mainstream media, they serve up plenty of reasons
Speaker:every single day, where we can, um,
Speaker:We really feel that life is happening to us and not for us,
Speaker:that there is so much to be.
Speaker:Worried about concerned about so little that we control.
Speaker:They're the macro issues.
Speaker:And then of course, all the issues going on in our own lives, all the daily
Speaker:problems and challenges that are there, tests and trials that can make life seem
Speaker:so difficult to every single one of us listening today has been in situations
Speaker:where we can genuinely feel beaten down.
Speaker:We can feel like.
Speaker:It's, uh, it's all too much.
Speaker:You ever had that you sort of, you sort of know what your goals and dreams are, you
Speaker:know, what's important to you, you know, what you want to create in your life.
Speaker:But it seems that no matter what you try.
Speaker:No matter what you've done, the preparation, the
Speaker:efforts that you've put in.
Speaker:You keep seeing seeming to end up, are they going backwards or
Speaker:staying stationary or just feeling so beaten down you ever been there?
Speaker:I think all of us have at some point.
Speaker:And if you think about what makes some particular movies so influential,
Speaker:so famous, I'm thinking about the movie Rocky, because yesterday I
Speaker:was on the training bike and nine.
Speaker:Started watching the movie creed.
Speaker:Which is kind of the followup series to Rocky because often if I'm doing
Speaker:a long training ride, I'll, I'll check on a documentary or movie
Speaker:and the movie Creed's interesting.
Speaker:And you, you start to notice the same sorts of patterns.
Speaker:You get a sort of underdog hero.
Speaker:Who, um, gets a shot out of nowhere at a title and, uh, the, the, the
Speaker:action and the drama builds up to this moment where they're beaten
Speaker:to the canvas and beaten down.
Speaker:And the music comes up and, you know, with every single one of these movies, right.
Speaker:We know what's going to happen before it even starts, you know?
Speaker:We know what the movie's gonna.
Speaker:You know, you don't sit there and go, wow.
Speaker:I wonder if they're going to lose.
Speaker:She just always know.
Speaker:What, how it's going to work out, but we still engage, right?
Speaker:Like there's still such compelling stories when the heroes beaten to the canvas,
Speaker:but they, they managed to get one hand to prop them up and then another hand
Speaker:and the crowd screaming out at them.
Speaker:And finally they managed to get themselves back on their
Speaker:feet and they go on to victory.
Speaker:And there's a reason.
Speaker:Those stories are so compelling because they tie into something very specific and
Speaker:particular to our shared human journey.
Speaker:We get pumped by seeing those sorts.
Speaker:Of stories, because I think we all resonate with them and that's the
Speaker:sort of focus of today's message is just to remind all of us.
Speaker:That there will be times that are hard.
Speaker:There will be times that are difficult.
Speaker:Nobody gets a free pass in life.
Speaker:If you're listening to this, you've either already had.
Speaker:Significant life challenges, or they will be around the corner at some point.
Speaker:No, no amount of money or influence protects any of us.
Speaker:From the vicissitudes of life from the storms and schools of
Speaker:whether the can flow through.
Speaker:The landscape of our lives at any particular moment.
Speaker:So we mightn't get to control the weather.
Speaker:But we can control our response.
Speaker:And today is about reminding you my friend to get back up off the canvas.
Speaker:To get back up off the canvas.
Speaker:One more time.
Speaker:Is there something in your life right now?
Speaker:That's not exactly going your way.
Speaker:Is there something that you feel like you can't just change as
Speaker:you can't control the outcome?
Speaker:And you do feel beaten down by it.
Speaker:You feel exhausted by it.
Speaker:Well, this message today is simply to remind you to get up off that canvas one.
Speaker:More time.
Speaker:You know, if I had one superpower.
Speaker:It really would be perseverance often say that Karen would say
Speaker:that to my wife, she'd say, yep.
Speaker:That's it.
Speaker:That's the one thing that you do.
Speaker:That, uh, that you just keep doing, no matter what comes at me, I just
Speaker:have this ability to make myself.
Speaker:Keep going.
Speaker:Yesterday after another 48 hours in this training course.
Speaker:So I'm basically sleeping two hours a day.
Speaker:I get the kids to bed about 10.
Speaker:I sleep from about 10:00 PM till midnight.
Speaker:And then I get up at midnight and start the program again.
Speaker:But so yesterday I finished after about 13 hours and I knew
Speaker:I hadn't trained for, for a day.
Speaker:So I went down and got on the train of bike.
Speaker:I'm doing this 40 K race on the trainer bike and about 20 Ks in I'm gassed.
Speaker:I'm like, ah, I said it doesn't matter today, you know, I'm not.
Speaker:You know, I've got this program and I'm.
Speaker:How many sleeping two hours a day for four days.
Speaker:And maybe I should just, you know, just stop, just do half.
Speaker:Half's fine.
Speaker:You know, and I'm having this internal dialogue, but then I managed to go.
Speaker:That's not who you are.
Speaker:It's not what you do.
Speaker:And right in that moment, you know, I guess let's talk about the mechanics.
Speaker:I literally drew.
Speaker:On a, on a hero of mine, um, a mentor of mine who really exemplifies physical
Speaker:toughness and physical perseverance.
Speaker:And I thought of them.
Speaker:And I thought of my own sense of self and I'm like, no, I'm not stopping.
Speaker:I'm not getting off.
Speaker:I'm going to get it done.
Speaker:And I got it done.
Speaker:And I felt great afterwards.
Speaker:And I just had this sense of, you know, pushing through of pressing
Speaker:on, of not letting my current feelings dictate my response.
Speaker:That's what it means to get up off the canvas.
Speaker:It means to push through when you don't feel like pushing through, it
Speaker:means to make yourself get up one more time because these results matter.
Speaker:You know, Can you imagine a movie?
Speaker:Like, can you imagine Rocky, like Rocky had got into the ring
Speaker:with Apollo creed and just got punched out in the first round.
Speaker:And hit the four and the movie ended.
Speaker:We'd just be like, I don't, I don't get.
Speaker:I didn't get what all the fuss was about.
Speaker:This is a terrible movie, right?
Speaker:We don't like that sort of movie.
Speaker:We liked that.
Speaker:Movie where he screaming at the end, Adrian, Adrian.
Speaker:And, uh, his girlfriend comes running across and you know, the
Speaker:music comes up and everybody's emotional and we love that story.
Speaker:You know why?
Speaker:Because that's your story.
Speaker:That's actually your story.
Speaker:That's the truth about you?
Speaker:So my friend be encouraged.
Speaker:Get up off the mat.
Speaker:One more time.
Speaker:Maybe it's you got to get off that mat.
Speaker:Get off that canvas for your kids.
Speaker:Maybe you've got to get off that canvas for your marriage or your
Speaker:business or your friendships or your health or your spirituality.
Speaker:You feel beaten down, but today is the day to get back on your feet.
Speaker:One more time and finish this movie, finished this story.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:It's my encouragement for you today.
