Tara Bryan:

Welcome to The Scalable Expert, the podcast where we unlock

2

:

the secrets to building a business

that grows with you, not around you.

3

:

I'm your host, Tara Bryan, business

strategist, mentor, and creator

4

:

of the INFINITE SCALE Method.

5

:

If you're a coach, consultant, or

service provider who's maxed out

6

:

with one on one work, overwhelmed by

the grind, and ready to scale your

7

:

expertise into a business that works

for you, then you're in the right place.

8

:

Each week I'll share actionable

tips, inspiring success stories,

9

:

and proven strategies to help you

reclaim your time, grow your income,

10

:

and create a business that delivers

results without sacrificing quality.

11

:

Let's dive in and make your

business INFINITELY SCALABLE.

12

:

Hey everybody, welcome to today's episode.

13

:

I am thrilled that you're here.

14

:

In this episode, I want to talk

about the if/then statement.

15

:

Now, who would have known that

we would actually use some math

16

:

concepts from our school days.

17

:

But this is one that I love and and

I won't admit a lot of times, but

18

:

math is not my favorite subject,

19

:

I'm just gonna say.

20

:

However, the, if/then statement is

one of my favorites, and maybe it's

21

:

because I am a closet computer nerd.

22

:

But it's so powerful and so I want to

walk through a couple of exercises with

23

:

you today on the podcast around some

if/then statements because I think it's

24

:

really powerful to use as you're trying

to work through various scenarios or

25

:

challenges or just things that you're

trying to solve in your business.

26

:

Now, I will I will give you the caveat

that one of my favorite things right

27

:

now to do is when I'm using ChatGPT

specifically, but it could be any AI tool,

28

:

one of the biggest benefits of those tools

is it becomes your checks and balances.

29

:

It becomes, you're, I always say

that it organizes my brain, right?

30

:

If I'm writing something out, I'm

like, okay, so here's a scenario.

31

:

Here's what I'm thinking.

32

:

Here's what I wanted to do.

33

:

How do I make that happen?

34

:

I can put that in ChatGPT and it spits

out a couple of different options for me.

35

:

And I'm like, oh, interesting.

36

:

Okay.

37

:

So that's great.

38

:

And what I end up doing most of the

time with ChatGPT, just so everyone

39

:

knows is I'll be like, okay, yeah,

that's great, but I wanted to do this.

40

:

Or what if we didn't

use this piece for this?

41

:

Or, what if we looked at it this way?

42

:

And every single time it comes back,

oh, yes, that's such a great idea.

43

:

Or, that's such a great

addition to the conversation.

44

:

Yes, Let's go with that scenario.

45

:

And then it will write out a new scenario.

46

:

And so I always love it,

47

:

I'm like, oh yeah, I'm so smart.

48

:

But what happens is in my point in

bringing this up is that it's a great

49

:

tool to help you work through the if/then

statements that are going on in your brain

50

:

around things that are happening, right?

51

:

If we do this, what's the consequence?

52

:

If we do this, what happens next?

53

:

If we do this, then this

is the outcome, right?

54

:

And, you could do that on your own, right?

55

:

Or you just write out, okay, let's think

through how all these pieces work, but

56

:

the fast way to do that is to put that

kind of if/then scenario into ChatGPT

57

:

and have it organize it, and format it,

in however way you want it formatted and

58

:

then use it as a way to either validate

your thinking, challenge your thinking,

59

:

or just come up with a different easier,

60

:

or even more complex approach that

will help you not only articulate what

61

:

it is you're trying to work through

but also give you the step by step

62

:

framework for what that is, or the step

by step guide for how to implement.

63

:

So let me give you just an

example to bring this home.

64

:

So we're working on a really large

certification program, where we're

65

:

automating a number of different tools

and they have to talk to each other.

66

:

Which is a really fun, juicy project.

67

:

So if anyone is geeky like me and loves

to talk systems, give me a shout, and

68

:

you and I can talk about it all day long.

69

:

But there's some complex things

that we need to have happen in

70

:

this, particular, use case with this

customer that they're asking for.

71

:

And and so we know the tech, we

know the if/then statement, right?

72

:

If somebody puts this in,

this is what needs to happen.

73

:

This is what needs to be spit out.

74

:

But as you are aware, in most cases,

there are a number of different

75

:

ways to accomplish one outcome.

76

:

Especially in Techland, right?

77

:

Like you, there's lots of different

ways to get to the answer.

78

:

And a lot of times, the way that

we used to get to the answer was,

79

:

I have experience with this, or,

someone else has experience with this.

80

:

Or we can do some custom

blah, blah, blah, right?

81

:

So everyone comes from

a different perspective.

82

:

So my developer is going to have a

completely different way that they're

83

:

going to look at it than the way that I'm

going to look at it, because I'm looking

84

:

at it from a different lens than he is.

85

:

But, when we can put it into ChatGPT

and be like, okay, so what is the

86

:

most simple, the easiest, the least

expensive, whatever your criteria

87

:

is, for how to accomplish this?

88

:

Then you can start looking at it from

the different perspectives without

89

:

that communication barrier, right?

90

:

And so I love to use ChatGPT

for this purpose and diving

91

:

into those if/then statements.

92

:

So what was really cool is what we ended

up doing was we put in our parameters,

93

:

we put in our inputs, and said, if

this happens, then we want this to

94

:

happen, what is the most streamlined and

effective path to go from here to here?

95

:

What we got from that whole

experience was something that was

96

:

much more simple than we had even

anticipated at the beginning.

97

:

And so it's so exciting when you think

about, not only, like, how do you leverage

98

:

if/then statements, because ,they're

super powerful in everything that you do.

99

:

If you're struggling to make a

decision, if you're struggling to

100

:

figure out how something works,

put it in an if/then statement.

101

:

I promise you, it will help you.

102

:

Even old school, this is the way

that I work a lot of times, is I'll

103

:

grab a piece of paper and I'll be

like, if, and then, a blank line,

104

:

and then, and then a blank line.

105

:

And then I can start putting in

various scenarios to try and get what

106

:

is in my head and download it out

into something that, can be usable.

107

:

And then if you have other people

do that, then everyone is putting

108

:

their own lens through the problem.

109

:

And then you can start

having the conversation.

110

:

So I had a conversation with my

developer and he said, and, you

111

:

know, let's do it like this.

112

:

I had a conversation with another

developer who was working on a

113

:

different part of the project,

and he said let's do it like this.

114

:

I put it in front of somebody else

who is more like a systems person,

115

:

a project management person,

and she said, do it like this.

116

:

Then I put it down and I

came up with do it like this.

117

:

And then we put all of those scenarios

into ChatGPT and said, okay, so look

118

:

at these scenarios and then decipher

based on how this works, what is

119

:

the most simplified easy and the

least you know, complicated approach

120

:

using this specific tech stack.

121

:

Tell us how we would do that.

122

:

And it came back and it was like,

oh my gosh, that is amazing because

123

:

it was completely different than all

of the responses that we all had.

124

:

But what it did is it put

it all together, right?

125

:

And it said, okay, based on your

requirements, based on what you

126

:

want, based on what's available,

127

:

here's the best approach to do that.

128

:

And then the cool thing around that,

other than how cool it was that we got

129

:

to that outcome of what we could do.

130

:

And I will tell you that even the two

developers I talked to, both of them

131

:

were like, oh, that's really complicated.

132

:

I just don't know if we can do that,

133

:

blah, blah, blah.

134

:

And then what actually got spit out was

just a lot more simple because we didn't,

135

:

like the system didn't have all the

garbage in our head of all of the things.

136

:

I've done it this way, and I've done

it that way, and I think I can do this

137

:

way, and I think I can do that way.

138

:

And the system doesn't have that, right?

139

:

And so it was able to really

create something that was much

140

:

more streamlined than any of

us could come up with separate.

141

:

Then, what happened is that then

you can say, okay, great, now put

142

:

together a step by step guide, and

you can say a non technical step by

143

:

step guide, and give me all the things

that, that we need to do step by step,

144

:

like in an SOP, very specific around

implementing this particular approach.

145

:

Super.

146

:

Then it goes through and it does that.

147

:

It's all organized, it's

all formatted, it's great.

148

:

So then you have that, and then you can

hand that off to the person who's gonna

149

:

be doing the work and that they have

a now a step-by-step path to follow.

150

:

Now, the best part about all of this is

all of that work got condensed into a

151

:

very small window of time so that instead

of taking, days and weeks and months and

152

:

sometimes longer to build things, we're

able to build them very quickly, very

153

:

easily and in a way that minimized the

amount of complexity, minimized the cost,

154

:

and allowed us to have something that was

scalable without being so totally randomly

155

:

crazy that it was too complicated.

156

:

And and again we have the skills, we have

the expertise to be able to look at it

157

:

from that filter and say, oh yeah, that

makes sense, that's how we would do that.

158

:

And and that is, in fact,

the best way to do it.

159

:

So don't just trust ChatGPT that they're

going to tell you the best way, but

160

:

put it through then back through the

lens of, poking holes in it to make

161

:

sure that it is the right approach.

162

:

And so that if/then statement, matching

it with the simplicity of having a tool

163

:

that helps just take all of the mess that

we, our brains bring to a project and

164

:

put it into a succinct format and then be

able to quickly give those instructions

165

:

to yourself or to other people,

166

:

will help you so much as you're

building things and moving

167

:

forward in your business.

168

:

And so if you are in that place

where everything feels a little

169

:

overwhelming, and you're stuck in

your head, I do totally 100 percent

170

:

recommend that you use ChatGPT as

sort of your filter for simplifying.

171

:

And it could even just

be like, hey, ChatGPT,

172

:

mine has a name, maybe yours has a

name, I don't know, but hey, ChatGPT,

173

:

take all of these random thoughts

and organize them for me into some,

174

:

pattern so that I can move forward.

175

:

And see what that does for you because

the number one reason why we don't move

176

:

forward is because we're overwhelmed

in our heads with all of the things.

177

:

And so let ChatGPT organize those for you.

178

:

And for those of you who are like,

oh, AI is taking our lives and we

179

:

shouldn't be using it for anything.

180

:

I'm telling you that you don't need to

use it to write something for you, but

181

:

using it to do this will so help you

just stay connected and unoverwhelmed.

182

:

We'll use that as a word so that

you can keep moving forward.

183

:

So go use it.

184

:

Let me know how it goes.

185

:

I would love to get your feedback

on that and how you have used it

186

:

to move you forward with something.

187

:

All right, thank you so much for

being here for this episode.

188

:

In the meantime, if you like this episode,

go give it a a subscribe, do all the

189

:

things, no matter where you're watching.
