Sebastion:

what's up and welcome to the Single Player Experience Podcast.

Sebastion:

As always, I'm your host, Sebastian Malden, and today I'm bringing you

Sebastion:

the indie game recommendation of the week with an exclamation point.

Sebastion:

This game has something special, so let's talk about it.

Sebastion:

So every once in a while you play a game and very quickly realize

Sebastion:

that this game's got the juice.

Sebastion:

You know what I mean?

Sebastion:

You come to the conclusion that you're either playing something super

Sebastion:

special or you're playing something that totally speaks to you Sometimes.

Sebastion:

Sometimes it can be both.

Sebastion:

Well, I had that feeling recently playing the indie game known as Doomed to Hell.

Sebastion:

This is a game that I knew, just knew had to.

Sebastion:

This week's indie game recommendation of the week.

Sebastion:

So what makes this game an easy recommendation?

Sebastion:

Why am I glowing about this game and who's this game for?

Sebastion:

Find out right after the intro DJ start the intro Mine.

Sebastion:

I'm just gonna come right in and say it doom to hell.

Sebastion:

Reminds me of had.

Sebastion:

Now, I'm not saying that this game is on the same caliber as Hades,

Sebastion:

because that's one of the best games ever made in my opinion.

Sebastion:

However, a lot about doomed to hell feels reminiscent of Hades, but with

Sebastion:

its own unique flair in most areas.

Sebastion:

That works in the Game's favor.

Sebastion:

So let's dive into it.

Sebastion:

Let's start with the narrative.

Sebastion:

The story is Simple.

Sebastion:

Hell is full, and the powers that be ordered a free for all with the survivor,

Sebastion:

the sole survivor, getting a one-way ticket back to the land of the living.

Sebastion:

You play as one of hell's.

Sebastion:

Rose and you try to destroy all that gets in your way.

Sebastion:

It's not the most complex story in the world.

Sebastion:

However, it does get the job done at providing background and

Sebastion:

establishing the setting of the game.

Sebastion:

I'm gonna be real with you.

Sebastion:

Do not come into this game looking for a complicated story.

Sebastion:

If you're looking for that, this game is going to disappoint

Sebastion:

you because this ain't got it.

Sebastion:

So with that said, let's talk about the gameplay.

Sebastion:

Doom to Hell plays like a twins stick shooter version of Hades.

Sebastion:

You have three main levels and five waves of enemies to be in each wave.

Sebastion:

You take down all the enemies to beat a wave, and at the end you get

Sebastion:

to choose a status buff to enhance your character during that level.

Sebastion:

Sounds familiar.

Sebastion:

It's because it's exact same thing as Hades, except in Hades you

Sebastion:

get a buff for your entire run.

Sebastion:

And this one you get a buff for that particular level, and you only get

Sebastion:

that buff into the level and that waves in that level are completed.

Sebastion:

Now in this game, you use the left analog stick to move and the right to aim.

Sebastion:

You shoot with the back trigger and dodge with the rb slash R one button.

Sebastion:

That's really all there is to the controls, but the simplicity helps this

Sebastion:

game have a pickup and play factor to it.

Sebastion:

as for the twin stick shooter gameplay, it's absolutely fun.

Sebastion:

There's an addicting quality into the gameplay.

Sebastion:

There are some areas of improvement for the aiming controls, but that said, this

Sebastion:

is more than serviceable, and if you try it out, you're going to get addicted.

Sebastion:

Just fair warning.

Sebastion:

Now, with that said, let's talk about some other general

Sebastion:

pros of Doom Taha that I liked.

Sebastion:

One thing that I really have to shout out about the game is the shop that

Sebastion:

you encounter after every level.

Sebastion:

At the shop, you can use your hard-earned end-game currency to buy status buffs

Sebastion:

that last you until you die, and you can also buy additional weapons.

Sebastion:

The status buffs and the weapon varieties offers the players many

Sebastion:

ways to actually play this game.

Sebastion:

Another positive of Doom de Hell is the enemy variety.

Sebastion:

Despite it being a smaller skill game, you come across a slew of different

Sebastion:

enemies to face, all of which have their own attacks and movement patterns.

Sebastion:

All of them feel well thought out and well.

Sebastion:

. Another aspect that I really want to shout out about the game is the boss

Sebastion:

fights that you have to overcome.

Sebastion:

Each boss is well designed with their own move sets.

Sebastion:

They are challenging, but can be overcome by learning their attack

Sebastion:

patterns and equipping yourself with the best guns and buffs that work best

Sebastion:

with your play style now, no games.

Sebastion:

Perfect.

Sebastion:

So let's talk about the cons of this game.

Sebastion:

This game has a variety of weapons, but not all of them

Sebastion:

are actually fun to play with.

Sebastion:

For example, in my opinion, the swords don't feel fun to use,

Sebastion:

especially compared to the guns.

Sebastion:

It feels like there could have been even more gun types as opposed to

Sebastion:

having the swords in the game at all.

Sebastion:

The only other flaw that I can think of that might drive some

Sebastion:

people away is the fact that this game is a bit on the shorter side.

Sebastion:

Really skilled players can probably beat this in around three to four hours.

Sebastion:

Most people will probably beat this in around seven to 10 hours.

Sebastion:

That said, this is definitely a shorter, more condensed experience.

Sebastion:

So let's answer the questions that we posed at the beginning of this episode.

Sebastion:

Who's this game?

Sebastion:

It's four gamers who like twin stick shooters and like the gameplay loops

Sebastion:

that are very similar to Hades.

Sebastion:

So if you like Roguelike games, this is definitely going to be for you.

Sebastion:

What makes this game an easy recommendation?

Sebastion:

Simple.

Sebastion:

This game is almost just like Hades, one of the greatest.

Sebastion:

Games of all time.

Sebastion:

It's a little different.

Sebastion:

It has its own unique flair to it.

Sebastion:

But if you like Hades, then you're for sure gonna like this game.

Sebastion:

Especially if you like twin stick shooters.

Sebastion:

So should you play doomed to hell, that is a easy yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Sebastion:

You should play this game.

Sebastion:

Hell yeah, you should play it.

Sebastion:

This game is phenomenal, especially at its like four to $5 price tag.

Sebastion:

If you enjoy Hades, then you need to play this game.

Sebastion:

Even though the game is a bit on the smaller side with about five to 10

Sebastion:

hours of gameplay, it offers a memorable and enjoyable experience that will

Sebastion:

have you clamoring for one more run.

Sebastion:

In this show, we practice the 10 games backlog rule.

Sebastion:

In this practice, you log down 10 games, those games are gonna

Sebastion:

be your video game backlog.

Sebastion:

To be as productive as you possibly can be, we recommend that you

Sebastion:

only play three games at one time.

Sebastion:

One single player narrative game, one game that's gonna be

Sebastion:

your chill and relaxed game.

Sebastion:

And another game that's going to be your palate cleanser game, which is

Sebastion:

a game that you play when you're not in the mood for your other narrative.

Sebastion:

When you complete or get tired of one game, it leaves the backlog list.

Sebastion:

Then you decide which new game is added to the list, and which game on the list

Sebastion:

advances to your active three games.

Sebastion:

So that is the game recommendation of the week that you should

Sebastion:

consider adding to your backlog.
