Shownotes

When trying to decide who you are as a leader are you constantly tumbling through mental gymnastics or expending way too much energy sanitizing your personality in order to fit into some pre prescribed definition of what a leader should sound like? Can you be yourself and still be a badass inspiring leader?

In this episode, I interview Sarah Schneider, an executive coach, leadership trainer, and CEO of the leadership coaching firm Sarah Schieder & Company. Sarah joins me today to help us understand the sense of freedom that comes with choosing your own version of leadership, having the impact you want with your leadership, and being your own damn self while you do it.

Many people hesitate to call themselves an expert or a leader. What they don’t realize is all the mental gymnastics are draining and completely unnecessary. Those things are compromising the energy you could be spending on things that will actually make you a great leader; this includes upskilling yourself, networking, and building healthy relationships. When you start calling yourself a leader, you begin to head closer to becoming one.

Within our conversation Sarah discusses how vulnerability and intimacy are the keys to building healthy teams. We also discuss why being able to trust your team, especially now that we are working remotely is pivotal for business success.

We need diversity in leadership. We need more people from all backgrounds to discover their leadership style.

To find your leadership style:

●  Define who you are as a leader.

●  Trust yourself and your expertise.

●  Give yourself the ability to see how things are going around you.

●  Have a team of advisors to learn from- keep growing.

●  Know that the world is better when we have different types of leaders.

●  Determine what it would look like if you gave 10 percent more to your gaps. What does 10 percent more of your personality, honesty, focus look like?

●  Bring your true self to leadership.

The Cocktail of the Week is the Zoomtini cocktail from the Happy Hour at Home cocktail book that was gifted to me by my friend Candice. It is a low alcohol beverage that gets you through that last Zoom meeting of the day (or the first if you ask me) ready.

Ingredients

●  1 oz sweet vermouth

●  1oz gin

●  4 oz seltzer

●  3 luxardo cherries

Add ice, vermouth, gin, and bitters to a glass, fill with seltzer, and garnish with the cherries. (PS. While you are sipping on this, they suggest you tune into "Who’s Zoomin Who" by Aretha Franklin.)
