Speaker:Yay. So fun to be here.
Speaker:Thanks for having me.
Speaker:So, Oh,
Speaker:it's a pleasure to have you on,
Speaker:is there anything else that I didn't cover in that intro?
Speaker:Oh, you know,
Speaker:I've had 18 businesses,
Speaker:but we don't need to go into all of them.
Speaker:Well, but it certainly lays the groundwork for the experience that
Speaker:you have.
Speaker:And a lot of the businesses relate very well to our
Speaker:audience. Absolutely.
Speaker:Yeah. I mean,
Speaker:I am an artist and a crafter at heart.
Speaker:I'm very creative and I totally can relate to your audience.
Speaker:So I'm excited to be here Super well.
Speaker:As our listeners know,
Speaker:we like to align the conversation around the life of a
Speaker:motivational candle.
Speaker:The light shines on you while you share your stories and
Speaker:your experiences in all your Instagram expertise.
Speaker:So are you ready to light it up?
Speaker:Oh yes I am.
Speaker:I am.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:So you're coaching a client who owns a candle shop and
Speaker:you're going to go see her and do some strategic planning,
Speaker:her and you enter into the shop and all these candles
Speaker:are all over.
Speaker:What color candle would you gravitate?
Speaker:My favorite color and the Crayola crayon box is magenta.
Speaker:I love the color magenta and it's like the color of
Speaker:a beautiful orchid.
Speaker:And it looks like a fake color to me.
Speaker:It's just my favorite color.
Speaker:And what motivational quote is on that magenta candle fearlessly Be
Speaker:yourself. Ooh,
Speaker:I like that.
Speaker:Yes. And be spelled B E as you know,
Speaker:cause of my B oh,
Speaker:is this a quote from you?
Speaker:I don't know if I made it up because it's just,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:it's three of my favorite words together,
Speaker:but when I write it,
Speaker:I write it B,
Speaker:B E because of my Suby branding.
Speaker:So I do say it that way.
Speaker:And how do you Apply it in your life to be
Speaker:fearless and be yourself?
Speaker:I really Don't care.
Speaker:What other people think of me.
Speaker:I do what feels right.
Speaker:And I do things from the heart and with passion and
Speaker:I don't let other people like judgment of me get in
Speaker:the way of anything that I want to do.
Speaker:And then there's that level of sincerity then,
Speaker:because you're just being honestly who you are.
Speaker:Oh yeah,
Speaker:for sure.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:I'm confident with who I am and I know that I
Speaker:have a profound and positive impact on so many people.
Speaker:And for those that just might not be attracted to my
Speaker:persona. That's okay.
Speaker:As well.
Speaker:I just think you got to put your greatness out there
Speaker:in a big way and understand that not everybody is going
Speaker:to be attracted to you or like you,
Speaker:but you gotta be you.
Speaker:Cause there's only one you Exactly.
Speaker:And you can so easily tell when someone's trying to fake
Speaker:who they are or be someone else absolutely can see it
Speaker:right away and you can sense it right away.
Speaker:And that's probably why people are so attracted to you.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:it's no question that people adore you and I think it's
Speaker:because you're so authentic.
Speaker:You're so real.
Speaker:And you are who you are.
Speaker:Yes, Absolutely.
Speaker:There's no hiding the real soupy.
Speaker:There you go.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:We are going to dive into this really wonderful world of
Speaker:Instagram. And I'm really thrilled to have you on the show
Speaker:today because Instagram is such a visible platform.
Speaker:And for our audience gift stores,
Speaker:gift shops,
Speaker:the gift experience in terms of receiving gifts and all that,
Speaker:it's all so visual.
Speaker:I think all of us,
Speaker:if we are not taking advantage of this platform,
Speaker:we are really missing out on something.
Speaker:Great. So Sue's here to give us all of the insights
Speaker:and get us started.
Speaker:So if you would suit talk about the platform just from
Speaker:the beginning,
Speaker:in terms of why you think it's a viable platform for
Speaker:our audience.
Speaker:Well, because I think everybody has a visual story to tell
Speaker:a personal story,
Speaker:a business story,
Speaker:a brand story,
Speaker:and Instagram allows you to really put yourself out there in
Speaker:a very visually appealing way.
Speaker:I often say it's like creating your own digital scrapbook.
Speaker:That's curated and there for the world to see.
Speaker:So I just love that you can upload photos very easily
Speaker:or 15 second videos.
Speaker:If you want to be doing a tutorial,
Speaker:it's the visual eye candy that people are really attracted to.
Speaker:And it's like really having your own magazine at people's fingertips
Speaker:because I don't know about you Sue,
Speaker:but I am not looking at magazines or newspapers anymore.
Speaker:I'm on my mobile device and getting all my news and
Speaker:all my inspiration from apps and obviously Instagram.
Speaker:Exactly. Okay.
Speaker:So our listeners might have an Instagram account right now.
Speaker:You know,
Speaker:they know about it.
Speaker:They've played around in the platform a little bit.
Speaker:Maybe they have one that's under their own name,
Speaker:but they also have a business.
Speaker:What would your advice be?
Speaker:How do they handle that situation?
Speaker:Do they create another account?
Speaker:Use the same one?
Speaker:What do you,
Speaker:so There's a personal account and there's a business account.
Speaker:And to set up a business account,
Speaker:there's no special button like Facebook,
Speaker:where you need to have a personal account in order to
Speaker:have a business account.
Speaker:Anyone can have multiple accounts and Instagram and facts.
Speaker:I have six.
Speaker:So all you need is a different email to start a
Speaker:different account.
Speaker:If you want to put yourself out there for business,
Speaker:you have to have a laser focus business account that serves
Speaker:your market.
Speaker:If you're going to start putting a lot of personal stuff
Speaker:on Instagram,
Speaker:you're not going to attract your ideal customer or client.
Speaker:They're going to be confused because quite frankly,
Speaker:you have three to six seconds to really make an impression.
Speaker:And if there's any sense of confusion,
Speaker:when they land on your Instagram account,
Speaker:they're not going to follow you.
Speaker:They're just going to be like,
Speaker:okay, she's just here for personal reasons.
Speaker:Do you mix personal and business at all?
Speaker:Yes. I think humanizing your brand,
Speaker:it's important,
Speaker:but not at the beginning.
Speaker:If people don't know your business and what you do to
Speaker:serve who you serve,
Speaker:you've got to really put that first.
Speaker:And then over time,
Speaker:once you've built an audience and some fans and some followers,
Speaker:you can start putting more personal stuff,
Speaker:but I don't do.
Speaker:I only put my personal stuff on my aunt,
Speaker:Sue B Zimmerman account on Instagram,
Speaker:which I invite all the listeners to go check out and
Speaker:follow me.
Speaker:And then one of my business accounts.
Speaker:So one that you all should be aware of.
Speaker:The Instagram expert is where I share daily tips,
Speaker:tools, strategies,
Speaker:and Instagram updates.
Speaker:You don't see any personal content.
Speaker:You might see pictures of me.
Speaker:And if you do,
Speaker:it's me teaching you an Instagram tip.
Speaker:It's not me saying here I am on vacation or hearing
Speaker:him with my kids.
Speaker:It's all in the spirit of serving my followers,
Speaker:who came to follow me to learn about Instagram.
Speaker:So it's really important to stay very focused in your business.
Speaker:Okay. But just like what you said here,
Speaker:you have referenced both of your accounts too.
Speaker:So if someone wanted to just come to one and see
Speaker:only the Instagram,
Speaker:the business side,
Speaker:they could do that,
Speaker:but they could follow you on both and have a little
Speaker:peek into your personal life as well.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:Now I know you are all about the bio.
Speaker:That's part of all about what I am.
Speaker:Yes. The buyer madness.
Speaker:Okay. Start an Instagram account.
Speaker:It's very important to have a really well filled out bio.
Speaker:Yes. Your bio has to be complete and there's five different
Speaker:steps that I can go over if you want me to.
Speaker:Sure. Let's do it.
Speaker:Okay. So the first one is making sure that your name
Speaker:matches up to your business.
Speaker:It doesn't have any numbers in it.
Speaker:If you have a strong Twitter presence,
Speaker:it can be your Twitter handle.
Speaker:It should be your name or your business name.
Speaker:You want to make sure that you have a strong avatar,
Speaker:not your logo,
Speaker:despite what people may think.
Speaker:You want it to be a smiling face,
Speaker:the person behind the brand,
Speaker:unless you're a big brand.
Speaker:People like to do business with people they know like and
Speaker:trust. And they really want to look at a smiling avatar,
Speaker:especially when you're commenting on Instagram,
Speaker:because your avatar is what people see when you're commenting.
Speaker:Your logo can be used as a watermark,
Speaker:not as the avatar,
Speaker:which is the picture in your bio.
Speaker:You want to make sure you have clear descriptive words in
Speaker:your bio that explain who you are,
Speaker:what you do and who you want to serve.
Speaker:You also want to make sure you have a clear CTA
Speaker:call to action.
Speaker:And then lastly,
Speaker:you want to make sure you have a URL.
Speaker:Bitly is what I suggest bit dot L Y SU you
Speaker:can link up in the show notes.
Speaker:I have a YouTube video,
Speaker:how to create a custom Bitly link,
Speaker:which is really important on Instagram so that you can track
Speaker:your success.
Speaker:How you're driving traffic back to your opt-in,
Speaker:your Etsy store,
Speaker:your business,
Speaker:whatever it is you want to track your success from Instagram,
Speaker:Definitely link up the YouTube video about how to make a
Speaker:Bitly and Bitly.
Speaker:It's also,
Speaker:shortner a Link shortener.
Speaker:Exactly. It's like a pretty link and it's a way to
Speaker:shorten the link.
Speaker:Exactly. Yeah.
Speaker:With all the tracking.
Speaker:That's why that's really important.
Speaker:Okay. Super.
Speaker:And let's talk a little bit then also about content and
Speaker:let's focus specifically on business accounts.
Speaker:What types of things should people be posting that would resonate
Speaker:with some of them?
Speaker:I always say you can post your company history behind the
Speaker:scenes. People love behind the scenes,
Speaker:how things are made,
Speaker:celebrate your employees.
Speaker:Because if you're in business,
Speaker:you've got to have happy employees celebrate your employees.
Speaker:And in customers,
Speaker:the exercise that I give my coaching clients is really to
Speaker:think about the five words that you want people to experience
Speaker:when they land on your account.
Speaker:What is the feeling that you want people to have when
Speaker:they're actually scrolling through your Instagram feed?
Speaker:And that feeling should be represented,
Speaker:not just in one photo,
Speaker:but the feeling of the whole feed as a campaign,
Speaker:as your business campaign.
Speaker:So no matter how far back I go,
Speaker:if I land on a photo,
Speaker:it's that same vibe.
Speaker:And so I always say,
Speaker:choose five words,
Speaker:five emotional words that you want people to feel when they're
Speaker:actually looking at your visual content.
Speaker:Does that make sense?
Speaker:It does make sense.
Speaker:And so then the feelings of the photos could be some
Speaker:product, maybe other people interacting with the product.
Speaker:And then also you as the business owner.
Speaker:Yeah. I mean,
Speaker:you have to make it interesting.
Speaker:You have to make sure that the photos are fabulous quality
Speaker:photos. People really aren't interested in you,
Speaker:especially if they don't know you yet.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:they're more interested in your business than the products that you're
Speaker:creating and how you're creating them are really posting selfies on
Speaker:a business page does not work.
Speaker:As I said earlier,
Speaker:it has to be in the spirit of your core brand
Speaker:messages. Like not only the upload of photo of the video,
Speaker:but in the description below,
Speaker:you can have it all be cohesive.
Speaker:And that's another element of Instagram that I love that it's
Speaker:really a microblog,
Speaker:it's the ability to create little micro bits of content every
Speaker:day. Stay top of mind by posting regularly and putting yourself
Speaker:in front of your potential customers.
Speaker:But you should think about Instagram,
Speaker:not always being in front of the person,
Speaker:that's going to be paying you money,
Speaker:but it's just giving value,
Speaker:staying top of mind.
Speaker:And when you say top of mind,
Speaker:that person that sees it might not necessarily be ready to
Speaker:buy a printed ribbon machine or some version of that,
Speaker:but they may mention you to a friend that's interested in
Speaker:that. So you never know who's going to be talking about
Speaker:you and your products that you're posting at a cocktail party
Speaker:at an event in line at Starbucks.
Speaker:So just by staying top of mind,
Speaker:giving value every day is really a big part of the
Speaker:essence of Instagram.
Speaker:And you Feel very strongly about posting a photo every single
Speaker:day. Oh yeah.
Speaker:Well, I do.
Speaker:I'm the Instagram expert.
Speaker:Hello. So I do on the Instagram expert and on Sue
Speaker:B Zimmerman,
Speaker:one to three times a day,
Speaker:other four accounts.
Speaker:It's not always daily,
Speaker:but it's frequently to stay top of mind.
Speaker:You need to figure out what's going to work for your
Speaker:schedule, what you have time for what you enjoy.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:once you really start getting into Instagram,
Speaker:you say,
Speaker:I love Instagram.
Speaker:It's so fun.
Speaker:And you don't hear people say that about their social media.
Speaker:They feel like they have to go do social media.
Speaker:So I always say Instagram is just fun.
Speaker:And that's part of the reason people just love being on
Speaker:the platform.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:So we've talked a little bit about how the bio is
Speaker:so important and what should be included in the bio.
Speaker:We've talked a little bit about the photos,
Speaker:the types of photos that should go up on your business
Speaker:page. Specifically,
Speaker:someone puts all of this together and I've followed you enough
Speaker:to know that,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:you should put maybe nine or 12 photos up to start.
Speaker:So someone's not coming and seeing just one or two things,
Speaker:but then how do you start getting your account exposed to
Speaker:other people?
Speaker:Well, You have to have a strong hashtag strategy.
Speaker:You have to know what your keywords are and the words
Speaker:that people would be using to actually find you.
Speaker:And they are not the popular hashtags.
Speaker:We do have a hashtag cam book on our website called
Speaker:get your hashtag on.
Speaker:And if you want to check that out,
Speaker:you should also link up our playlist or YouTube playlist where
Speaker:people can listen to me.
Speaker:Talk about a lot of free business,
Speaker:Instagram content,
Speaker:and SU also Instagram results,
Speaker:which is a free Facebook group.
Speaker:Everyone can join and get value there as well.
Speaker:So back to the hashtag.
Speaker:So you need to always use hashtags when you post know
Speaker:what your keywords are.
Speaker:You can use up to 30,
Speaker:you can keep them in your notes,
Speaker:on your phone or in Evernote,
Speaker:but just have them handy because your photos,
Speaker:the minute that you upload your photo is when your hashtags
Speaker:go live.
Speaker:I recommend using five to 11,
Speaker:11 seems to be the magic number,
Speaker:but if you're starting out clearly use more.
Speaker:Make sure you're not using the popular ones,
Speaker:because those are the ones where you attract all the spammers,
Speaker:like follow for follow shout out for shout out just basic
Speaker:nouns. Do not do it for business.
Speaker:You really need to know what those keywords are.
Speaker:And if you don't know what they are,
Speaker:go look and see what your competitors are doing or people
Speaker:that you admire are doing.
Speaker:And look at their hashtag strategy.
Speaker:You've got to do a little market research with the hashtags,
Speaker:and it's really important to understand how to use Them.
Speaker:You know,
Speaker:we're throwing a lot of concepts at everybody right now.
Speaker:And I know because you are the Instagram expert,
Speaker:there's a lot of resources that are available,
Speaker:so people can go find more.
Speaker:We're just trying to do a little bit of an overview
Speaker:here for everybody.
Speaker:Exactly. Any other final points or what I'd love to hear
Speaker:is you pull out one client of yours success story about
Speaker:what Instagram has done for their business.
Speaker:Yeah. So juice keys,
Speaker:which is at juice keys on Instagram,
Speaker:Kelly and her brother,
Speaker:Chris have a local business selling healthy food.
Speaker:And they came to us to coach them.
Speaker:And we put together a hashtag strategy.
Speaker:We did a session and they at the time had under
Speaker:a thousand followers on Instagram and they got very,
Speaker:very good and we niched their hashtags and they started attracting
Speaker:their ideal follower.
Speaker:They always post amazing photos.
Speaker:And that is absolutely the most important things to have awesome
Speaker:photos. And they always give great value.
Speaker:Their sales increased in two months,
Speaker:a thousand dollars,
Speaker:their followers on Instagram and less than a year,
Speaker:a mass to 29,000
Speaker:active, highly engaged followers.
Speaker:And they are having great success.
Speaker:People literally walk in the door and show them their phone
Speaker:and say,
Speaker:I want to buy this.
Speaker:So this is the kind of success that you actually can
Speaker:have 9,000.
Speaker:A lot of people are just so excited about numbers to
Speaker:an account,
Speaker:but 29,000
Speaker:active customers who really love the brand.
Speaker:They're not just,
Speaker:they're not grabbing viewers just for the numbers.
Speaker:They're real solid viewers.
Speaker:So Sue,
Speaker:you've talked a little bit and I just want to round
Speaker:out this conversation.
Speaker:Now you've mentioned a couple of times about the quality of
Speaker:the photos and how important that is.
Speaker:And I know you say that the photos are your North
Speaker:star, right?
Speaker:Yeah. You and you know it well,
Speaker:you've heard me say that.
Speaker:Yes. I sure have.
Speaker:Can you give our listeners just a little bit of direction
Speaker:on what makes a photo a north star?
Speaker:Yeah. I mean,
Speaker:it's a photo that stops that you stop in your scrolling
Speaker:tracks, as you say,
Speaker:it's so awesome.
Speaker:It's a photo that has amazing lighting and some sense of
Speaker:intrigue or story behind it.
Speaker:You want to,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:dive deeper by reading what those words are.
Speaker:It's a photo that gets you at your emotional core that
Speaker:makes you laugh or smile or inspires you or educate you
Speaker:or entertains you in some profound way.
Speaker:And that's a north star photo.
Speaker:There you go.
Speaker:And all you have to do is look at some of
Speaker:Sue's photos and you'll see it.
Speaker:You know,
Speaker:the angles,
Speaker:the light,
Speaker:the interest,
Speaker:the setup,
Speaker:all of that.
Speaker:Exactly. Okay.
Speaker:Well, we're going to move on now,
Speaker:Sue into our reflection section.
Speaker:This is a look at you and what has helped you
Speaker:to be successful along the way.
Speaker:And I know that you were successful pretty much right out
Speaker:of school in your early twenties,
Speaker:but what trait is it that you have that you think
Speaker:has just jump-started your success back then and all the way
Speaker:up to today?
Speaker:I think the number one trait is my confidence.
Speaker:I really have a lot of confidence.
Speaker:I always have.
Speaker:I also think being friendly and quite frankly,
Speaker:just smiling all the time.
Speaker:People are attracted to smiles and I am happy and I
Speaker:do smile.
Speaker:And it's just an invite for people to just approach you
Speaker:and talk to you and get to know you and like
Speaker:you and trust you.
Speaker:And another trait is that I collaborate with the right people
Speaker:when I say right people,
Speaker:it's the people who lift me higher and really make me
Speaker:happy. And I don't compromise on any of that.
Speaker:I really like what you're saying here,
Speaker:because the initial portion that you're talking about with confidence and
Speaker:being friendly and smiling is authentically who you are going back
Speaker:to what we were talking about at the top of the
Speaker:interview and,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:gift biz listeners.
Speaker:I know some people do struggle with confidence and the best
Speaker:thing that you can do is always just be yourself.
Speaker:And by being yourself,
Speaker:you actually are stronger because you're not trying to mimic anybody
Speaker:else. You're your genuine brand.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:your personality is part of your brand and your business brand
Speaker:as well.
Speaker:And here,
Speaker:Sue, B's talking exactly about how these are things that have
Speaker:made her successful from the start.
Speaker:Yes. So moving on,
Speaker:what tool do you use regularly to keep productive or to
Speaker:create balance in your life?
Speaker:Let's address the create balance because I think that's really important.
Speaker:First of all,
Speaker:I have a team that keeps me on track with everything
Speaker:I'm doing.
Speaker:So I know I'm very fortunate and lucky that I have
Speaker:a staff.
Speaker:My tool is my calendar and my team puts everything I
Speaker:need to do in my calendar.
Speaker:So I know where I'm going,
Speaker:what I'm doing,
Speaker:who I'm talking to,
Speaker:what interview.
Speaker:And they set me up for success every day.
Speaker:So I would say my calendar for sure is my tool,
Speaker:but I have a ton of efficient tools that I use
Speaker:as to terms of apps.
Speaker:You know,
Speaker:when I'm traveling,
Speaker:it's Uber,
Speaker:when I'm getting a blow dry,
Speaker:it's the dry bar app.
Speaker:I, you know,
Speaker:I Starbucks,
Speaker:it's a Starbucks app.
Speaker:I am definitely connected to my phone in terms of it
Speaker:being the most efficient tool I own.
Speaker:And everything I can do is literally on my phone,
Speaker:whether it's Google drive,
Speaker:whether it's Dropbox,
Speaker:I don't touch paper.
Speaker:I don't touch pins unless I have to.
Speaker:I'm extremely efficient,
Speaker:extremely productive,
Speaker:and very guarded with my time with that said the things
Speaker:I do to create balance in my life.
Speaker:I go into the woods every day.
Speaker:My favorite hashtag hashtag woods before work with my dog.
Speaker:I exercise every day in some way,
Speaker:not always breaking a sweat,
Speaker:but I move my body because we all sit too much.
Speaker:Guys. I try to eat as healthy as I can.
Speaker:And I'm always trying to improve in that area.
Speaker:Like we all are.
Speaker:And by improving,
Speaker:I try to have at least one green juice a day.
Speaker:I love to travel and I travel frequently.
Speaker:So I get to see the whole world.
Speaker:I think it's so important to get out there and see
Speaker:life beyond your little bubble as you know it.
Speaker:And lastly,
Speaker:I'm very happily married and have been for 25 years.
Speaker:So I think having a partner who supports everything I do
Speaker:and always has,
Speaker:is extremely meaningful and creates a lot of balance in my
Speaker:life. He puts up with all my corks.
Speaker:He knows that I'm constantly on the go and that I
Speaker:just love what I do.
Speaker:And he accepts like all the craziness that goes on in
Speaker:running my,
Speaker:my, my growing,
Speaker:my growing business.
Speaker:Let's just leave it at that.
Speaker:My growing 18th business,
Speaker:he's been with me since the very first one That says
Speaker:something that is for sure,
Speaker:my husband and I just celebrated our 30th anniversary yesterday.
Speaker:And same thing we've been with each other for both of
Speaker:our craziness and having a partner really does help for sure.
Speaker:Who's supportive and,
Speaker:and behind you the whole way.
Speaker:Yes. And I've got to say he just hurts to be
Speaker:talk about all the things she does for business,
Speaker:all the things she does for personal.
Speaker:And she whipped it off really fast.
Speaker:And I know she's on the road all the time,
Speaker:doing something always up to something,
Speaker:either it's scoping or Instagram posts or training or whatever it
Speaker:is. And clearly she's got it all together because she fits
Speaker:it all in her day.
Speaker:Somehow. I'm not sure how,
Speaker:but she does it.
Speaker:Well, you've heard Me how you heard me,
Speaker:how it,
Speaker:by the way,
Speaker:it's funny that you say that because I am doing a
Speaker:Blab interview tonight.
Speaker:And before the Blab interview,
Speaker:I'm getting on Periscope to broadcast and I'm doing the blood
Speaker:interview, but let's just digress for one second.
Speaker:I think it's important for all the listeners to understand that
Speaker:no matter what your efforts are in terms of marketing your
Speaker:business, you need to think beyond what you're actually posting and
Speaker:doing and how you can leverage it on fire.
Speaker:Like how you can literally connect the social presence that you
Speaker:have in broadcast in a bigger way.
Speaker:So let me just give you an example.
Speaker:Yes. I post on Instagram every day,
Speaker:but I also love Snapchat and I don't want to confuse
Speaker:your listeners,
Speaker:but I use Snapchat to let people know what I'm doing,
Speaker:like as a sub category throughout my day.
Speaker:But I use it to broadcast things that I'm doing.
Speaker:For example,
Speaker:I'm traveling and speaking in Dallas tomorrow.
Speaker:So I'll post that on Instagram,
Speaker:but I'll also let my Snapchat followers know that because you
Speaker:never know somebody might live in Dallas and want to meet
Speaker:me. And that's a more intimate connection separately.
Speaker:If I'm going to be doing an interview,
Speaker:I'm going to queue up some tweets to get people,
Speaker:to watch that interview.
Speaker:I'm going to post it in my Facebook group.
Speaker:I'm going to announce it on Blab,
Speaker:because if you're just spending time posting and doing for the
Speaker:sake of doing it,
Speaker:cause everyone's telling you,
Speaker:you got to be on social media because that's the way
Speaker:the world is it kind of missing the boat.
Speaker:If you don't take the extra effort to think how you
Speaker:can go above and beyond to really get what you want.
Speaker:And at the end of the day,
Speaker:what you want is more business,
Speaker:more customers,
Speaker:more money.
Speaker:So to do that,
Speaker:you've got to reach and connect with your audience in a
Speaker:very authentic way.
Speaker:Like we said,
Speaker:at the top of the hour,
Speaker:the a very authentic way,
Speaker:and it goes beyond just posting behind your computer.
Speaker:You need to be visible.
Speaker:You need to be seen.
Speaker:The more people can see your face,
Speaker:hear your voice,
Speaker:hear your passion,
Speaker:see your smile.
Speaker:The more connected they are to you.
Speaker:And the more they will absolutely do business with you.
Speaker:And if you're going to take anything away from this interview,
Speaker:those are the sound bites I want you to hear.
Speaker:That Was spectacular.
Speaker:What books have you read lately that you think our listeners
Speaker:could find value in?
Speaker:I'm reading a couple books.
Speaker:Yeah, I'm the person that's reading like three books at one
Speaker:time. So right now I'm reading a steal to show by
Speaker:Michael port.
Speaker:He wrote one of my favorite books,
Speaker:book yourself,
Speaker:solid, which every single person in business should read,
Speaker:steal. The show is a wonderful book.
Speaker:If you want to become a better public speaker and understand
Speaker:that speaking actually incorporates into all facets of your business,
Speaker:not just on the stage,
Speaker:but when you're speaking on an interview like this or on
Speaker:a Periscope or anywhere,
Speaker:just improving your speaking skills with confidence.
Speaker:So I'm reading that.
Speaker:I'm also reading Tory Johnson's book shift for good Tory Johnson
Speaker:was my first mentor,
Speaker:great friend.
Speaker:She is the host of deals and steals on good morning,
Speaker:America, every Thursday.
Speaker:And this is her second book.
Speaker:And it's really a great read.
Speaker:I'm really enjoying her book.
Speaker:And I'm also reading Shareology by Brian Kramer,
Speaker:which is all about human to human and human to human
Speaker:connections and how there's a huge movement and shift from businesses
Speaker:to really stop and think about the relationships before you think
Speaker:about anything else,
Speaker:I'm going to quickly tell you a story about something that
Speaker:happened to me today.
Speaker:I think you guys will appreciate this because this is just
Speaker:crazy. I get in my Facebook inbox,
Speaker:this guy,
Speaker:this random guy I've never met,
Speaker:sends me a text telling me he wants me to be
Speaker:on his group.
Speaker:Call tonight,
Speaker:teaching Instagram to all of his people.
Speaker:He does mastermind and I'm the leading Instagram expert.
Speaker:And he wants me to come on and be a part
Speaker:of his business.
Speaker:I have no idea who he is.
Speaker:He says,
Speaker:call me.
Speaker:I'm like,
Speaker:I was curious if him,
Speaker:my number I said,
Speaker:you can call me.
Speaker:So he called me and he gave me a song and
Speaker:dance, how he wanted me to do this webinar,
Speaker:like Instagram tutorial to his audience,
Speaker:which is models,
Speaker:people that are in the model industry.
Speaker:And at the end,
Speaker:he wanted me to sell a program and he would get
Speaker:30% of the commission.
Speaker:And I would get 70.
Speaker:I said,
Speaker:first of all,
Speaker:I have no idea who you are.
Speaker:Second of all,
Speaker:that is not how I do business.
Speaker:I don't get on a call and sell something and pitch
Speaker:something. He's in the internet marketing space,
Speaker:which is a completely different mindset than how I do business.
Speaker:And I kind of laid it into him to say,
Speaker:listen, for me,
Speaker:it's about getting to know like,
Speaker:and trust you.
Speaker:And you are already trying to make money with me.
Speaker:And that's not who I am.
Speaker:I'm like,
Speaker:do you even know who you're talking to?
Speaker:Did you do any background research?
Speaker:Did you listen to any of my podcasts?
Speaker:Do you know who I am?
Speaker:And he's like,
Speaker:well, I know that you're like dance program expert.
Speaker:I'm like,
Speaker:yeah, but that's,
Speaker:this is not how I do business.
Speaker:So I gave him an ear full.
Speaker:He listened because I wasn't being rude.
Speaker:I was just saying,
Speaker:I just want you to understand how I do business,
Speaker:which is clearly different than how you do business.
Speaker:And it was so offensive to listen to this guy,
Speaker:talk about how much money we would both make tonight.
Speaker:If we did this,
Speaker:I'm like,
Speaker:I'm doing a Blab interview tonight.
Speaker:I would never drop things.
Speaker:I'm doing do something for you.
Speaker:And I don't have time to do an interview for you
Speaker:until December.
Speaker:And if you want to hire me to do the webinar
Speaker:I'm available and here are my rates.
Speaker:Like it was the most bizarre thing too.
Speaker:And it goes back to this point that I'm making is
Speaker:that you've got to lead with giving value and building relationships
Speaker:before selling anything.
Speaker:If you're salesy,
Speaker:it's such a turnoff,
Speaker:at least to me,
Speaker:it is.
Speaker:And I'm assuming you have the same feelings.
Speaker:Absolutely. That's crazy.
Speaker:And that story really does bring to light what you're talking
Speaker:about. I thought that I would tie it in because this
Speaker:is like,
Speaker:this happened today.
Speaker:As you know,
Speaker:today in my inbox,
Speaker:it was so Bizarre.
Speaker:Yeah. Well hopefully he's going to know for the future.
Speaker:Oh yeah.
Speaker:He knows.
Speaker:And he's like,
Speaker:okay, you're clearly a rockstar.
Speaker:I get it.
Speaker:And I said,
Speaker:I don't want you to hang up and think that I'm
Speaker:pretentious or above you.
Speaker:I just want you to respect how I do business and
Speaker:learn from this.
Speaker:Right. Well,
Speaker:and you've taught him something too,
Speaker:for sure.
Speaker:Yeah, that was,
Speaker:that was my messaging.
Speaker:Anyway, I just wanted to share that story because I think
Speaker:it's really important.
Speaker:Yeah, No,
Speaker:I'm really glad you did.
Speaker:And these three books we're going to go back to these
Speaker:books are spectacular and I don't know any of them.
Speaker:So I'm very anxious to check them out myself.
Speaker:Great gift biz listeners,
Speaker:just as you're listening today,
Speaker:you can also listen to audio books with ease.

Speaker:I know there's a ton of places you're out there Sue,
Speaker:but can you give me just one or two places that

Speaker:Can I do that?
Speaker:Absolutely. So I challenge you all to upload something on Instagram
Speaker:and I want you to tag it hashtag Sue B made
Speaker:me do it.
Speaker:That would be the hashtag that you use.
Speaker:An app mentioned me at Sue B Zimmerman or at the
Speaker:Instagram expert.
Speaker:And I will be sure to get my eyes on your
Speaker:posts and it can be anything that you want me to
Speaker:see that you did and just showcasing some aspect of your
Speaker:business. I love that hashtag I did that shortly after we
Speaker:met each other and it was so fun going over there
Speaker:and seeing all the photos of everybody and what they did
Speaker:and what they elected to post and all that.
Speaker:It's really,
Speaker:really fun.
Speaker:Exactly. Exactly.
