Craigslist founder Craig Newmark is donating 100 million to bolster U. S. cybersecurity. Half the money will go towards critical infrastructure, half will go towards educating people on good cyber behavior. Newmark is 71 years old and he plans to give away nearly all of his wealth. Most of the latest pledge for cybersecurity hasn't been committed yet, and you can take a look at the criteria to apply for funding on his grant site at Craig Newmark Philanthropies dot org.

Good luck. And remember that big cyber incident in the UK? A pathology company called Synovus was taken down by some cyber thugs back in June, and that one pathology provider being taken out of commission caused a multi week cascade of events. Appointments cancelled, surgery put on hold. Postponements, even a shortage of blood and blood products.

Well now it's being reported that nearly 1 million NHS patients have had their data leaked online since the breach. It includes info on patients with cancer and sexually transmitted diseases. And everything else you can imagine. Synovus is now mostly back online. Uh, on this particular report, they say they don't know what was stolen or who the data is tied to.
