We live in a world screaming for identity.
In a society more connected by social media than ever before, people feel less seen, less heard, and less loved.
My personal belief is that it's because identity-driven statements and observations today are external statements trying to represent internal battles. Without an internal compass to help guide you, it's easy to get off track.
Our world has lost its core identity of being created by God. The one true God. The Genesis 1:27 God who says, "So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them." New Living Translation
And until we anchor ourselves into that abiding truth, we never discover peace, or rest, or harmony in a world screaming to be heard.

Hey, I'm curious. Have you ever wondered
Speaker:why so many people struggle to
Speaker:find their true identity?And what
Speaker:was it about the 1st century Christians
Speaker:that they didn't have to worry about
Speaker:that, that they were so settled and
Speaker:secure in who they were that they
Speaker:changed the world?Let's talk about that
Speaker:today, OK?
Speaker:Hey there, I'm Donna Wollam and I just
Speaker:want to welcome you to today's broadcast
Speaker:about the belief revolution. And our
Speaker:subject today is about embracing
Speaker:our God-given identity and
Speaker:understanding who it is that God has made
Speaker:us to be so that we can be free of
Speaker:always looking for someone else's
Speaker:opinion and someone else's approval to
Speaker:identify us now. My own
Speaker:journey into discovering my self identity
Speaker:has been a long one, like it has for most
Speaker:people, and piece by piece God has been
Speaker:able to shift me and change
Speaker:me and help me to unlock parts
Speaker:of my heart that. Help me to
Speaker:walk in confident assurance of
Speaker:who he has made me to be. And part of
Speaker:that was in my business journey
Speaker:that I started a business in an area I
Speaker:promised I would never work in. Have you
Speaker:ever made one of those promises where you
Speaker:say I will never ever do that?
Speaker:And then you find yourself doing that,
Speaker:right?Well, part of that journey
Speaker:was helping women to find
Speaker:their own definition of success and
Speaker:how they could walk in
Speaker:such great powerful.
Speaker:And purposeful success in their life, no
Speaker:matter what their definition of success
Speaker:was. For some of those women, it was
Speaker:having a lot of money. For some of those
Speaker:women, it was having a lot of time. For
Speaker:some of those women, it was just being
Speaker:able to make enough money to maybe do a
Speaker:remodel in their kitchen or take their
Speaker:family on a vacation. But what I learned
Speaker:is that each one of us, uniquely and
Speaker:beautifully crafted by God,
Speaker:has been made for something. That is
Speaker:similar to all of us, and that is
Speaker:expressing the beauty and the glory
Speaker:of our God and of our King. In Ephesians
Speaker:210, we hear that we are
Speaker:God's workmanship, created
Speaker:in Christ Jesus for good works,
Speaker:which he ordained beforehand that we
Speaker:should walk in them in a
Speaker:world that wants us to believe that we
Speaker:are an accident. And that there's no
Speaker:purpose for us, that we just muddle
Speaker:through life and we live and then we die,
Speaker:which is a popular saying. We
Speaker:have evidence right here
Speaker:that our God, our King, our
Speaker:Creator intentionally
Speaker:crafted us. We read in the Psalms
Speaker:that we are fearfully and wonderfully
Speaker:made. We know that our God
Speaker:loves us. He crafted us.
Speaker:He has. Seen us and established us. The
Speaker:book of Acts tells us that we were born
Speaker:in the perfect time so that we could come
Speaker:to know him. So when we look at all of
Speaker:these different things and how God is so
Speaker:intentionally and purposefully
Speaker:crafted us, how could we even think
Speaker:that there's not something
Speaker:intrinsic in all of that that
Speaker:helps us have the stability and
Speaker:confidence in the identity that he's
Speaker:given us?We can read over in Second
Speaker:Peter, First Peter, Chapter 2, verse 9,
Speaker:that we are a chosen generation, a
Speaker:royal priesthood, a holy
Speaker:nation. We are God's
Speaker:own special people,
Speaker:that we can proclaim the praises of
Speaker:Him whocalled us
Speaker:us out of darkness. Into his
Speaker:glorious light.
Speaker:There is a purpose in us, in our
Speaker:identity, that we are chosen by
Speaker:God. We are crafted by him
Speaker:purposefully. We are chosen by him
Speaker:intentionally. And before you start
Speaker:thinking that I'm saying that there's
Speaker:only a few that are chosen, I can tell
Speaker:you that the Bible says that it is God's
Speaker:will for all people to be
Speaker:saved. For all people to be
Speaker:saved and come to the knowledge of
Speaker:God, there's no cutoff limit that
Speaker:you're in or you're out. There is this
Speaker:desire of God to bring us
Speaker:into relationship with Him, into His
Speaker:family and into His work, which is what I
Speaker:want to talk about now. He has
Speaker:called us to be His ambassadors in the
Speaker:earth today. So when you're thinking,
Speaker:what is my identity?The first
Speaker:thing that the children of Israel knew
Speaker:is that they were God's chosen people.
Speaker:And when Jesus showed up on the scene and
Speaker:he opened the door for not just the
Speaker:Jews but also for the Gentiles, there was
Speaker:a war in the hearts and the minds of
Speaker:people. We see that in the Apostle Paul
Speaker:in the book of Acts, where he was out
Speaker:doing the work that every good
Speaker:Jewish. Worker would
Speaker:do is stopping this false
Speaker:prophecy, false teaching of Jesus
Speaker:Christ. And then Jesus met him on the
Speaker:road to Damascus and said, hey, the one
Speaker:you've been waiting for your entire life
Speaker:for generations, I'm that one.
Speaker:And Jesus took him and taught him and
Speaker:trained him. And Paul then
Speaker:became the greatest teacher to
Speaker:tell Gentiles, hey, the door is open,
Speaker:the way is open. So
Speaker:as ambassadors of Jesus on the earth,
Speaker:as if God himself were crying out,
Speaker:be reconciled to God, we
Speaker:get to carry that same kind of identity
Speaker:as a beacon and a carrier and a
Speaker:crier out to the nations that they are
Speaker:loved by God and he is hungry for
Speaker:relationship with them, that he wants
Speaker:us to know him, that he has
Speaker:made us a nation of kings and
Speaker:priests. Before God.
Speaker:Wow, ambassadors. Kings,
Speaker:priests, intentionally crafted,
Speaker:chosen by God.
Speaker:For us to be able to declare that the
Speaker:Kingdom of God has come, that for
Speaker:those who were far away, who are
Speaker:aliens and strangers to our
Speaker:God, that Jesus has come
Speaker:so that we can know God, be in
Speaker:relationship with God, and be filled with
Speaker:the Spirit of God so that we can do.
Speaker:The works of God,
Speaker:that's a lot. And so you may be sitting
Speaker:at your house today saying, well, you
Speaker:know, I'm just living in my city, doing
Speaker:my stuff. I go to work every day. I come
Speaker:home. What is there in me
Speaker:that God wants to use?
Speaker:There are a lot of things
Speaker:that create barriers for us in
Speaker:accepting this role.
Speaker:That God has placed on us. Now we have
Speaker:our own thought processes, thousands and
Speaker:thousands and thousands of thoughts that
Speaker:we think every single day that are
Speaker:opposed to everything that God says. So
Speaker:the first thing that we have to do is get
Speaker:our mind right. And we do that,
Speaker:Romans 12 tells us, by renewing our
Speaker:mind through the word of God that when we
Speaker:have. Transformed, been
Speaker:transformed by the Word of God. Then we
Speaker:can know the will of God. A
Speaker:lot of us come from families where
Speaker:there's a lot of negativity. I call
Speaker:them Nats, generational negative and
Speaker:toxic sayings. These things that we
Speaker:grow up with, our family never, or
Speaker:women don't, or men can't, or all
Speaker:of these things that we carry around
Speaker:ourselves or wear as garments around us.
Speaker:As our family identity,
Speaker:those people don't do that. We never
Speaker:do that kind of thing. And we carry that
Speaker:and we have to begin to just kind of pull
Speaker:that stuff back and ask how does this
Speaker:align with what the Word of God says
Speaker:about me?So we have these generational
Speaker:thoughts that we carry. We have societal
Speaker:thoughts and maybe because of the.
Speaker:The place where you live, maybe you're
Speaker:not even supposed to be a Christian.
Speaker:Maybe your family's always been one
Speaker:particular brand of
Speaker:religion. And so the idea that you would
Speaker:ever become a Christian is the 1st
Speaker:place where you run up against these
Speaker:barriers. And you know, it was the
Speaker:same way for the Jews and for the
Speaker:Romans and for all of the Gentile nations
Speaker:if you turned your back
Speaker:on your God. Then your
Speaker:family disowned you. I mean, it was it
Speaker:was OK to have lots of gods with the
Speaker:Roman Empire, but to have one true God
Speaker:that was over Caesar was absolutely out
Speaker:of order. To be a Jewish
Speaker:believer who then believed that
Speaker:Jesus was the Messiah was, even though it
Speaker:was the fulfillment of all that God had
Speaker:promised, it was absolutely opposed to
Speaker:the history of the family and of the
Speaker:culture. So these first century.
Speaker:Believers understood what it
Speaker:was like to come up against pressure from
Speaker:the family, come up against pressure of
Speaker:the political system, come up against
Speaker:pressure of all of the beliefs
Speaker:that had always surrounded them.
Speaker:But when they began to understand that
Speaker:Christ in us is the hope of glory,
Speaker:whenever they were able to lay
Speaker:aside the old things and take up.
Speaker:The Kingdom of God, Paul
Speaker:said. I die daily.
Speaker:He died to all the old
Speaker:stuff and was born again
Speaker:into the truth of who Jesus said he
Speaker:was. In fact, we hear Paul say
Speaker:often that we have to. We have
Speaker:died and our life is hidden with
Speaker:Christ and God. So if there's one
Speaker:secret. that those first century
Speaker:believers knew is that that
Speaker:old man is a dead man.
Speaker:And it's time to be born again and to
Speaker:live and to rule and to reign
Speaker:in Christ Jesus in this new life.
Speaker:And to be able to put behind
Speaker:ourselves like they did, put behind those
Speaker:things that don't serve life any longer
Speaker:and take on yourselfthis
Speaker:understanding and this identity of
Speaker:being hidden in Christ. Jesus
Speaker:tells us, well, Paul tells us in
Speaker:Ephesians chapter one, that we are seated
Speaker:in heavenly places in Christ
Speaker:Jesus, far above all the
Speaker:powers and principalities of this earth.
Speaker:That those things that are under the feet
Speaker:of Jesus are also under our feet.
Speaker:And when we can begin to live out of this
Speaker:knowledge,of relationship and
Speaker:be able to stand against the
Speaker:barriers and the binders that want to
Speaker:hold us to a life that is
Speaker:really full of death and fear, then we
Speaker:can begin to experience the abundant life
Speaker:that we have in Christ Jesus.
Speaker:There are some things that you can do to
Speaker:help you begin to live this
Speaker:abundant, full, God-given
Speaker:identity. The first of those, if
Speaker:you are not a believer in Jesus
Speaker:Christ, the very first thing to do
Speaker:is to confess that you
Speaker:don't know Jesus, that you haven't made a
Speaker:decision to follow Him, that
Speaker:you are in desperate need of a Savior.
Speaker:That's easy to do, is just to,
Speaker:Romans tells us to believe in our heart
Speaker:and confess with our mouth that Jesus is
Speaker:Lord. That he was born of a
Speaker:virgin. He lived a sinless
Speaker:life. He died and was raised
Speaker:bodily 3 days later and now sits
Speaker:at the right hand of God. That
Speaker:he is God
Speaker:incarnate to believe
Speaker:in your heart and confess with your mouth
Speaker:that you need a Savior and he is
Speaker:your Savior. The second thing to
Speaker:do. To be able to move through is to
Speaker:take the Bible, the word of God. And I I
Speaker:understand a lot of us have our phone
Speaker:devices and we read online,
Speaker:I cannot express enough how important it
Speaker:is to have a paper Bible and a pen and
Speaker:to write and to highlight and to
Speaker:mark and put things in the margins as
Speaker:God speaks to you through his word. And
Speaker:let him change your life. Let him
Speaker:transform your mind. Let him
Speaker:transform from the inside out.
Speaker:That identity and to just drive out
Speaker:all of the lies and let his truth come
Speaker:and take that place. Meditation
Speaker:in God's word, journaling every day
Speaker:is a powerful, powerful way. One of
Speaker:the things that I encourage my clients to
Speaker:do is to just take a sheet of paper and
Speaker:just write down what they believe about
Speaker:who they are, the lies that they've
Speaker:believed and the truth, and then to
Speaker:search scripture about that. So.
Speaker:A lot of women that I work with
Speaker:battle debilitating anxiety.
Speaker:So doing a scripture study about
Speaker:what God says about anxiety is
Speaker:one way that you can be able to shed
Speaker:this. Anxiety, personality,
Speaker:persona, this garment of I
Speaker:am anxious and begin to take
Speaker:on that. I am not afraid
Speaker:that God has given me a sound mind. He's
Speaker:given me a saved mind. He helps me.
Speaker:I cast all my cares on him because he
Speaker:cares for me. Those kind of things. So
Speaker:doing a scripture study of the areas
Speaker:where you battle,
Speaker:and do a study and find out what the Lord
Speaker:says about all of that. It can
Speaker:transform us in just a few minutes every
Speaker:day to help us transform ourselves
Speaker:by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit
Speaker:coming in. Scripture affirmations
Speaker:are one of my very favorite things, and
Speaker:in fact you're going to find a link inthis
Speaker:description of some scripture affirmation
Speaker:cards that I have for you for free. Just
Speaker:go down there and grab those. But
Speaker:scripture affirmations, where the Word of
Speaker:God then becomes personal for you,
Speaker:where you're able to take a
Speaker:scripture like Ephesians 2:10 that
Speaker:says we are God's workmanship to be able
Speaker:to say I am God's workmanship,
Speaker:created in Christ Jesus for good works.
Speaker:Which the Lord created beforehand for me
Speaker:to do. That's one of the most powerful
Speaker:things to be able to shed the lies and to
Speaker:take hold of the truth of who God has
Speaker:said you are by doing scripture
Speaker:affirmations. So Bible study
Speaker:and scripture affirmations are a great
Speaker:way. And then to be able to join in
Speaker:community with others as you're on
Speaker:your journey for
Speaker:being transformed by the renewing of your
Speaker:mind. So here we have these few
Speaker:things. Let me just highlight quickly for
Speaker:you. Number one, your
Speaker:identity is not the outward
Speaker:expectations. It's not the outward
Speaker:opinions of others. Your true
Speaker:God-given identity is who God says you
Speaker:are. And he says you are chosen, that you
Speaker:are beloved, that you are crafted
Speaker:intentionally, and that God sees you.
Speaker:Your God-given identity. Is
Speaker:that you are not the person you were
Speaker:before you became a Christian. That
Speaker:person is dead. Scripture says the old
Speaker:has gone, the new has come. You are a
Speaker:new creation in Christ Jesus. So
Speaker:whatever it is that holds you in guilt
Speaker:and shame from your past, you can let
Speaker:that thing go. It is a dead
Speaker:thing and God has called you to life.
Speaker:Jesus has said he's come to give us
Speaker:abundant life, that the enemies only come
Speaker:to steal and kill and destroy you.
Speaker:Those things of your past are the
Speaker:things that want to destroy you. But
Speaker:living in Christ is where our life is.
Speaker:We are hidden in Christ,
Speaker:hidden in Christ. The hope of
Speaker:glory resides within us,
Speaker:that we don't have to be afraid, we don't
Speaker:have to be anxious, we don't have to be
Speaker:tormented. By the things that have held
Speaker:us in the past, that through the
Speaker:scripture and through knowing what God
Speaker:says about us, we can begin to be
Speaker:transformed. And day by day
Speaker:by day, the real person, the
Speaker:hidden man of your heart, will come
Speaker:out. The person that God created you to
Speaker:be will begin to bloom and to
Speaker:flourish, and your life will be one of
Speaker:hope and joy and victory.
Speaker:I'm not saying everything's easy.
Speaker:I'm just saying that whenever we have
Speaker:Christ in our lives, then things
Speaker:become more simple. I've
Speaker:had a lot of hard things in my life. I've
Speaker:had people that I love die. My husband
Speaker:died, the church that I was going to.
Speaker:Things changed and I'm not there able to
Speaker:be with them. But God has led
Speaker:me on a path to where there are new
Speaker:people in my life that I'm able to have
Speaker:life and community with. My family
Speaker:and I are closer than ever before, and
Speaker:I'm able to, out of the pain of the
Speaker:past, be able to take those things that
Speaker:God has taught me. and to bring strength
Speaker:and help and hope to others. See, my
Speaker:identity is who God says I am.
Speaker:It's not that I'm an orphan because my
Speaker:parents are gone. It's not that I'm a
Speaker:widow because my husband is gone.
Speaker:It's that I am loved and
Speaker:seen and cherished
Speaker:by God. And
Speaker:that's who you are too, my love.
Speaker:If you are willing to receive the
Speaker:truth of who God says you are.
Speaker:So I'd love to hear your feedback on
Speaker:today. So down in the comments, you know,
Speaker:you know what to do. Let's be nice out
Speaker:there, OK?But also what I would love for
Speaker:you to do, if this has been a help to
Speaker:you, would you go ahead and subscribe to
Speaker:the channel?It'd be a great, great help
Speaker:to me. Like this. Share it with your
Speaker:friends. And let's join back here on the
Speaker:next time when we talk about who it
Speaker:is that God has made us
Speaker:and we continue our journey into the
Speaker:wholeness that God has for us.
Speaker:Thanks so much.
