Transcripts

Michelle Lasley:

Well, I made a mistake.

2

:

I thought I had scheduled the 2022 Chinese

New Year forecast for today, but I didn't.

3

:

I scheduled it for next week.

4

:

And since I keep forgetting to write

to my sub stack, I thought I would come

5

:

on here and just say, It's Wednesday

and how are you doing in the world?

6

:

How are you showing up in the world?

7

:

I am really curious about what's going

to happen in this upcoming election.

8

:

If you haven't been here in a while, I get

to work in child care and I work to build

9

:

power by bringing parents and providers

together so that we can demand the child

10

:

care system that we know we deserve.

11

:

One where there's affordability

and accessibility for all parents,

12

:

where all providers are thriving.

13

:

And In order to do that, we know

that the system is set up on racist

14

:

and sexist policies embedded for

hundreds and even thousands of years

15

:

of bias and rules and things and

we have a lot to do to break that.

16

:

So, we want our new system

to be based on a new route.

17

:

anti racist, anti sexist, anti classist.

18

:

And that takes a lot of work, and

it takes a lot of conversations.

19

:

And one way we can show

our values is when we vote.

20

:

And it's never perfect.

21

:

No single candidate will ever represent

all of what is important to us.

22

:

And there's a piece of understanding that

the United States government reinforces,

23

:

for example, the two party system.

24

:

The majority party is the one

who gets to set the agenda.

25

:

And so a lot of times you're doing a power

analysis to see which elected officials

26

:

are more amenable to your issues and

then choosing them, not because they're

27

:

the greatest human, but because they

align closer to the values you hold dear.

28

:

And then it is our job to hold

them accountable to either

29

:

what they said, what we need.

30

:

and certainly what we're striving for.

31

:

So yesterday September 17th was

National Voter Registration Day.

32

:

It's not too late.

33

:

Check your voter registration.

34

:

I'll put a link in the comments.

35

:

And then I want you to

share it with five friends.

36

:

And let's get bolder about

talking about our values.

37

:

I've been talking for many years now

about the importance of how we have to

38

:

have conversations with one another.

39

:

And we have to really reach out

and listen, especially when we're

40

:

talking to somebody and they're

sharing a piece of their story that

41

:

We think they should just get over.

42

:

This is hard.

43

:

I certainly am not a prime example of that

when maybe it comes to my husband, right?

44

:

Definitely want people to work

on their healing journeys.

45

:

And then when we're looking at the

wider systemic challenges in our world,

46

:

if you're feeling triggered, like

somebody should just get over a thing.

47

:

That is your invitation to

step back and listen more.

48

:

So let's listen more.

49

:

Let's talk about our values and let's

make sure that we are working to elect

50

:

people who closely align with our values

so that we can really build the world

51

:

that we want, where our families can

thrive, where we have bodily autonomy,

52

:

and where we can walk in any place

without fear because of the identity

53

:

that we Have a great Wednesday and

I will see you on the other side.
