Scott Brown is an ASE Master Certified Automobile Technician with over three and a half decades of professional service industry experience. He and his wife own Connie & Dick’s Service Center Inc., a 57-year-old independent shop in Southern California.

With a strong focus on engine performance and electronics, Scott began collaborating with other industry professionals, online, beginning in the early 90’s. Since 1995, he has been an instrumental resource in the development of the largest online community of automotive service professionals, the International Automotive Technicians Network — iATN where he once served as company president. Additionally, he serves on the NASTF Board of Directors and is a member of the following associations: ASCCA, CAT, ETI, I-CAR, & SAE.

  • Diagnostic Network is a learning platform and an open and deep channel of communication for diagnosticians and aspiring diagnosticians while connecting the industry that provides the products, services, information and training to the marketplace.
  • It is rare that a shop has someone with a high analytical skill set that can figure outside the realm of the manufacture test plan.
  • Many techs are trying to educate themselves in their own support groups.
  • Different than Facebook, Diag.net will have powerful search features to recall content.
  • Scott is working to connect industry with top-level diagnosticians, so industry knows what they need to deliver to the marketplace.
  • Industry wants to bring their subject matter experts and content to the program.
  • Diagnostic Network will allow special filtering to help the diagnostician get focused in his/her special are of interest.
  • Scott is not interested to create a silver bullet factory. Silver’s sometimes can fix problems but the root cause, in many cases is never understood.

  • Peer discussions and peer review will be part of this program to help refine rich content.
  • Support for peers on how to find the right building blocks for training.
  • Open to diagnosticians, aftermarket manufacturers, tool providers, training companies and hopefully the OE’s.
  • Scott feels it is time to break a mold and to improve engagement and transparency.
  • There isn’t a clearly defined guideline as to the skill set you need to be competent in this industry.
  • He wants case studies to help create a ‘multiplier effect’ of information.
  • This is a professional’s marketplace.
  • Data is king. They will have a vehicle support database to normalize the data that is coming in.
  • Scott sees ’s heavy duty will be on the horizon.
