In 2016, a study out of the University of California San Diego stated

that there were 587 Latino faculty members in the United States. Out of

those 587, 485 were men, and only 102 of them were women.

Today we spoke with one of those 102. Mariantonieta Gutierrez Soto, PhD

is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Penn State University. We

spoke about her decision to pursue academia and what is it like to run a

lab and the day-to-day of being a faculty member.
