Sebastion:

what's up and welcome to the Single Player Experience Podcast.

Sebastion:

As always, I'm your host, Sebastian Malden, and in this episode we're talking

Sebastion:

about an indie game that just released, that's given me some Hades vibes.

Sebastion:

It's a single player top perspective action R PPG that I just knew

Sebastion:

had to be this week's indie game.

Sebastion:

Recommendation of the week.

Sebastion:

Find out why right after the intro DJ start the intro main.

Sebastion:

I wasn't really intrigued by the.

Sebastion:

The maid seeker was different though because it felt like a game

Sebastion:

that was made specifically for me.

Sebastion:

It's a single player experience made by Digital Sun, the geniuses behind

Sebastion:

Moonlight, a game that I absolutely adore.

Sebastion:

So how do they do with this League of Legends based game?

Sebastion:

Let's dive into it.

Sebastion:

Let's start with the narrative.

Sebastion:

In the main secret, illegal legend story, you play a stylist, a rogue

Sebastion:

mate who seeks to build an army to lead a revolution against an oppressive.

Sebastion:

In this world, majors are hunted, experimented on and killed, and

Sebastion:

it's up to you to break this cycle.

Sebastion:

This is pretty much the crux of the main story, but the interesting

Sebastion:

aspect about the game's focus is your impact on the world itself.

Sebastion:

There is an emphasis on what world you will help create if

Sebastion:

you do win this revolution.

Sebastion:

One of the big triumphs of the show arcane was the banner in which they humanized the

Sebastion:

character, jinx the Maze Secret, can boast about the same achievement with Silas.

Sebastion:

It's remarkable how they took this character, which from my understanding

Sebastion:

was basically additional lore in the mainstay game to this remarkable

Sebastion:

and well fleshed out protagonist.

Sebastion:

The game also features side characters who are just as interesting as Silas.

Sebastion:

You have a camp where you can talk to them and learn more about their backs.

Sebastion:

Each of these stories you hear is well thought out and helps

Sebastion:

to further flesh out the world.

Sebastion:

Now let's talk about the gameplay.

Sebastion:

The gameplay is fun featuring swift combat that feels like

Sebastion:

a upgrade from moonlighters.

Sebastion:

It honestly feels like a 2D version of the pre Norse mythology, God

Sebastion:

of war games mixed in with Haes.

Sebastion:

In moonlight, you use your chains to execute light attacks, heavy attacks,

Sebastion:

and pull yourself towards enemies and also perform magic attacks.

Sebastion:

A cool standout feature is that you can use your chains to copy

Sebastion:

the magic attack from your enemies.

Sebastion:

Another fun feature and aspect about the gameplay is that the companions

Sebastion:

that you collect on your journey can provide you with combos and moves

Sebastion:

based on their elemental expertise.

Sebastion:

You can mix and match these moves to kind of tailor your play.

Sebastion:

In the game's intro, the gameplay seemed a bit basic, but it quickly ramps up as

Sebastion:

you're introduced to six magical elements.

Sebastion:

Each element is strong against this opposite, and using this

Sebastion:

to your advantage is the key to mastering the game's combat system.

Sebastion:

It's a cool trait that any ability that you copy can later also

Sebastion:

be learned in mastered in the.

Sebastion:

Now let's talk about the arts style and the soundtrack.

Sebastion:

The game is absolutely gorgeous with this 2D high bit pixel art style.

Sebastion:

You can see the similarities from moonlight, however it

Sebastion:

feels, dowd up a few notches.

Sebastion:

Every environment is highly detailed with standouts like your camp area, the forest,

Sebastion:

in any location in the game with water.

Sebastion:

This game is also a perfect example that shows how far pixel has come.

Sebastion:

I stopped several times and load the journey in the game just to

Sebastion:

admire the scenery around me.

Sebastion:

The game also features an amazing score and soundtrack.

Sebastion:

It sounds like an experienced orchestra performed the music for this game.

Sebastion:

The score perfectly accents everything that's going on around you.

Sebastion:

It has this beautiful slow orchestral music that sets the mood for

Sebastion:

the game's, heavier movements.

Sebastion:

There's also very good specific music that highlights and accents the mysterious

Sebastion:

moments of the game, as well as fast-paced music that really gets you into the mood

Sebastion:

when you're dealing out heavy damage to.

Sebastion:

Next up, I want to talk about some additional pros that I've

Sebastion:

found with this game, and I wanna start with the game's boss fights.

Sebastion:

There are quite a few of 'em, and they each have a different

Sebastion:

element or mechanic about them that makes them challenging yet fun.

Sebastion:

Even the boss fights that were kind of repeats of a previous one had a

Sebastion:

new element or wrinkle thrown into it that made it slightly different

Sebastion:

and added a new aspect that made it challenging in a brand new way.

Sebastion:

Next, I wanna shout out the game's upgrade path and upgrade

Sebastion:

system as a whole, because.

Sebastion:

It is incredible.

Sebastion:

So there are magic moves that you can unlock that add

Sebastion:

a nice layer to the combat.

Sebastion:

In each elemental path, you have about four spells that you can learn and use

Sebastion:

at your disposal instead of being locked into that upgrade system and just that

Sebastion:

upgrade path though, you can also spend your hard-earned resources on levelings.

Sebastion:

Silas's attributes such as his health, his magical ability, and

Sebastion:

gaining stronger physical attacks.

Sebastion:

I really like this dynamic in this system because I can play with a

Sebastion:

different version of Silas on my next play through versus the way that

Sebastion:

I played on my first play through.

Sebastion:

So between that and the story choices that you can make in this

Sebastion:

game, there's a lot of replayability factor to the game overall.

Sebastion:

So no game is perfect.

Sebastion:

So let's talk about the flaws of this one.

Sebastion:

Unfortunately, I experienced a few game crash.

Sebastion:

One happened during the opening cut scene.

Sebastion:

I had to start the game all over again, but it was the

Sebastion:

intro of the game, so no biggie.

Sebastion:

But then the same thing kind of happened in the middle of the game,

Sebastion:

but thankfully the game loaded up swiftly from a recent saved.

Sebastion:

But I just wanted to shout out that I did have a couple of.

Sebastion:

Experiences with some crashes.

Sebastion:

Another flaw that I experienced was that there was a bit of an inconsistency

Sebastion:

when it comes to the games AI system, the enemy, ai, to be specific.

Sebastion:

Sometimes they'd attack you collectively and then others, they'd wait their turn

Sebastion:

as if they were a old school action movie.

Sebastion:

Some enemies would even freeze up entirely until I came and hit them.

Sebastion:

While this isn't the biggest deal in the world, it's kind of worth

Sebastion:

noting and it kind of takes you out of the experience at times.

Sebastion:

So overall, should you play the Maid Seeker a League of Legends story?

Sebastion:

That is a easy yes, especially if you're looking for a game to

Sebastion:

scratch that Hades style itch.

Sebastion:

This plays a lot like a linear Hades game.

Sebastion:

The story is engaging even to someone who isn't familiar with the League

Sebastion:

of Legends, Lord, like myself.

Sebastion:

While it does get off to a pretty slow start, the gameplay is

Sebastion:

addicting, fun, and rewarding.

Sebastion:

I really want to give a shout out to Digital Sun because they showcased

Sebastion:

everything that they learned from Moonlighters and they took that to the

Sebastion:

next level by providing us with another memorable indie gym here between Arcane

Sebastion:

and the Ma Seeker illegal Alleg story.

Sebastion:

I'm starting to think that perhaps I'm becoming a League Legends.

Sebastion:

In this show, we practice the 10 games backlog rule.

Sebastion:

In this practice, you log down 10 games, those games are gonna

Sebastion:

be your video game backlog.

Sebastion:

To be as productive as you possibly can be, we recommend that you

Sebastion:

only play three games at one time.

Sebastion:

One single player narrative game, one game that's gonna be

Sebastion:

your chill and relaxed game.

Sebastion:

And another game that's going to be your palate cleanser game, which is

Sebastion:

a game that you play when you're not in the mood for your other narrative.

Sebastion:

When you complete or get tired of one game, it leaves the backlog list.

Sebastion:

Then you decide which new game is added to the list, and which game on the list

Sebastion:

advances to your active three games.

Sebastion:

So that is the game recommendation of the week that you should

Sebastion:

consider adding to your backlog.

Sebastion:

Sebastion:

backlog list, then join us in the single Player Experience Discord server.
