ViM - 25 | Did you know secrets to your success can be found right under your nose? Part 1

[00:00:28] Are you concerned about your future, the state of the world and how to best navigate the options or lack thereof that life's thrown your way? Welcome to Victory in Mind, the podcast that focuses on practical strategies and solutions in living out our created potential. Together, our tribe will motivate, activate, educate, engage, challenge and inspire us all towards our created potential. You have a future. You have a hope. So don't give up.

You think about all the preparation and all the things that have to happen for you as a parent to even start this process, let alone continue this process. Month after month, semester after semester or quarter, year after year. And it behooves us to kind of pay attention to some of the things that we do and say for our kids that maybe, they might help us out... A lesson in preparation.

This is part one of a two-part series. Welcome.

[00:02:39] And then you have the mask on again, off again, whatever situation we're currently in. And the kids are back in in-person school, or maybe not, or maybe whatever, whenever comes our way... Can we just get a minute to breathe?! These and other numerous considerations are [00:03:00] jostling for attention in our minds, our homes and the hearts of so many of us. Some key themes rise up to the forefront in regards to what we do to prepare our kids for this period in their lives, no matter the circumstance they may face.

But, have we ever stopped to look at some of the preparation process we ascribed to our kids? And how closely they parallel the same preparation for our own success?

I mean think about it. This is what the past one and a half to two years have taught us. That having control of any given situation has become more of a luxury. We have asked our children to be flexible pre COVID, in COVID and whatever this post COVID period describes itself as. We have seen them struggle, we've seen them be brave and everything else you can think of. Whether with online or in-person [00:04:00] schooling, not having that social environment interact with their friends, being forced to be indoors, whether it was the challenges with the home learning environment and decreased supervision or technology hiccups. And depending on the country, online school this past year was a luxury. So whatever you can think of, you've probably seen your kids or heard of others who face challenges similar, different, or even beyond your own.

Circumstances are such that we have asked our kids to be flexible over and over and over again with their overall health and wellbeing being paramount in our minds. Isn't it about time we to exercise our own flexibility muscles towards the success of all our end of year endeavors and beyond?

So preparation is key in warding off increased levels of anxiety. Think about it... just like with our children when they know what to expect for the new school year. And even when you know what to expect for the new school year - whether it's -who the new teacher will be, subjects to be studied, books or resources that are needed to be purchased in advance, as a parent, you know, that the more you prepare your child, the [00:06:00] smoother, the transition into the new school term will go.

al third of the year, that is:

[00:06:21] Just like our kids, we arm ourselves with the necessary tools needed to see the year end with a flourish. Whether you're just starting a new job, completing an assignment, going through the regular day-to-day activities occurring during this time of year, the more you prepare, the more you stay aware, the more you find yourself not fretting over the little stuff.

We prepare for our kids' success, isn't it about time we to diligently prepare and work towards our own success?

[00:07:00] Why do our kids start a new semester or class in school? Why do we want them to learn, interact with other students? What is the goal of that semester or year? These goals are set for that semester, that year, and for the wellbeing of your child's life.

For example, simple goals for the semester may be your child being able to do their homework consistently, completing assignments on time, making band practice, not losing their book bag or sweater within the first few days of school, et cetera. Or other long-term goals like the opportunity to establish and cultivate friendships, some who will be lifelong friends, that they may discover new talents and interests and so forth.

So too for you goal setting, casting a [00:08:00] vision of where you want to be at the end of this year and beyond, helps to bring to focus what you want to see accomplished during these months that will directly positively impact your goals. Are you out to get a new promotion, finish a presentation, teach someone, sell something, act in a new production, grow something? Then, what are the basic, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly activities you have in place that will steer you towards your desired goals?

So, whatever your preparation is for this new season, or at least the final third of 2021, let's allow ourselves to think simply. Let's think about that preparation process we have for our kids for school... to do the best you can, expect the unexpected and encourage [00:09:00] ourselves that no matter what we face, it's all part of our learning experience during this period in time. So let's go forth as prepared as prepared can be!
