Shownotes

Today is a solo show, and I’m going to breakdown a popular story structure that has been mentioned numerous times by the Engage With Story guests -Joseph Campbell’s, Hero’s Journey.

The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of narrative identified by American scholar Joseph Campbell back in the 50’s through his book, The Hero With A Thousand Faces.  In it, he deconstructs the theory which describes the typical adventure of the archetype known as The Hero, the person who goes out and achieves great deeds on behalf of the group, the tribe, or the civilization.

I was keen to do this episode for you so you have greater understanding of it in your own storytelling but also to give you some examples of how this structure has been applied in Hollywood film-making, and how it CAN be applied to telling your brand or business story.

In this episode

  • We look at Disney’s Frozen as a case study for The Hero’s Journey
  • We walk you through a simplified version of Campbell's theory by screenwriter Christopher Vogler
  • The 12 stages of the Hero’s Journey
