Speaker:forward slash ask today we're on part three of the six
Speaker:part series covering your top sales platform options.
Speaker:So far,
Speaker:we've talked about eBay and Amazon handmade.
Speaker:And today our focus will be on Shopify with the recent
Speaker:reclosing of so many States due to this pandemic and its
Speaker:resurgence. Making sure that you've got your online presence locked in,
Speaker:will remain key for the foreseeable future.
Speaker:Social media is one thing,
Speaker:but specific selling platforms are equally important.
Speaker:By the end of this series,
Speaker:you'll understand the strengths of each platform.
Speaker:Be able to make a determination of which one or ones
Speaker:are right for you and how to make your chosen platform
Speaker:work and sell your products,
Speaker:all the tips and tricks.
Speaker:And if you've hung around with me for any length of
Speaker:time, you know,
Speaker:that I preach about having your own website one you can
Speaker:control completely and where you aren't at the mercy of changing
Speaker:rules or being down for some unknown reason.
Speaker:Not that you can't or shouldn't continue on platforms like Etsy
Speaker:and the others,
Speaker:but the ultimate goal is to have your very own and
Speaker:Shopify is the number one platform that I recommend today.
Speaker:We're going to hear about what makes Shopify such a solid
Speaker:option. What the process is like when you're getting started and
Speaker:the nuances to make your online presence through Shopify shine.
Speaker:Today, I am so excited to introduce you to Al McCann.
Speaker:Elle is the owner and designer of curious themes,
Speaker:a web development studio,
Speaker:just outside of Nashville,
Speaker:Tennessee. She creates online classes that cover how to launch and
Speaker:grow Shopify stores quickly.
Speaker:Keyword quickly.
Speaker:Ella has been listed as a Shopify expert for over seven
Speaker:years. And in that time she has created more than 150
Speaker:Shopify stores.
Speaker:She's dedicated to helping entrepreneurs grow their online businesses without the
Speaker:overwhelm. One way she does this is through her weekly videos
Speaker:on our YouTube channel.
Speaker:And she currently has over 27,000
Speaker:subscribers and is growing fast.
Speaker:Elle. I am so excited to hear from you welcome to
Speaker:the gift biz on wrapped podcast.
Speaker:Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker:I'm excited to be here,
Speaker:me too.
Speaker:And I'm going to take you through our traditional question and
Speaker:I know you're prepped for this,
Speaker:but I like to have you describe yourself in a way
Speaker:that aligns with a lot of our listeners in a really
Speaker:creative way,
Speaker:and that is through motivational candle.
Speaker:So if you were to create your own candle by color
Speaker:and quote,
Speaker:that really represents you,
Speaker:what would your candle look like?
Speaker:Yeah. I really love this question because I actually instantly had
Speaker:a response for the candle.
Speaker:So I would have a green candle.
Speaker:It's my favorite color,
Speaker:anything I'm picking a color I'm always going to pick screen,
Speaker:but then for the quote I would actually do.
Speaker:And I don't know who originally said it,
Speaker:but the quotas,
Speaker:you can do anything,
Speaker:but you can't do everything.
Speaker:And that was actually a huge eye opening experience for me
Speaker:whenever I realized that in my own entrepreneurship journey and it
Speaker:really kind of changed my life.
Speaker:So I think having that subtle reminder that you're not super
Speaker:woman is kind of helpful.
Speaker:So I really love that in particular,
Speaker:in comparison or along with the topic today,
Speaker:because I have to tell you,
Speaker:as we talk about business development within my groups,
Speaker:when we get to the point about talking about starting a
Speaker:website, the door's shut,
Speaker:like people get really anxious.
Speaker:It seems very intimidating if you haven't been online and done
Speaker:some of this before.
Speaker:So when you say you can do anything,
Speaker:I think that needs to be the theme here for everyone.
Speaker:Yeah. Can you enhance that for us as a Shopify user?
Speaker:Tell us to that listener who is saying a website.
Speaker:Okay. That totally freaks me out.
Speaker:I don't see how that could possibly work.
Speaker:Can you just give a little bit of motivation before we
Speaker:get into?
Speaker:Yeah. So first off it is so much easier to create
Speaker:a website and an online store now versus it was even
Speaker:just a few years back,
Speaker:it's just getting easier and easier and these platforms are coming
Speaker:so much more intuitive.
Speaker:So it's not as scary as it seems to create this.
Speaker:And a lot of them,
Speaker:you can set up yourself also just to remember,
Speaker:you don't have to do it all at once.
Speaker:I find a lot of times whenever I'm talking to different
Speaker:merchants, I will hear them say,
Speaker:Oh yeah,
Speaker:I need to set up a Shopify store.
Speaker:And they kind of talk about it.
Speaker:Like it's one to do list item on the list for
Speaker:the week.
Speaker:However it is going to take some time.
Speaker:So just kind of break it down into more bite sized
Speaker:pieces first,
Speaker:get all your inventory together,
Speaker:then take photos and you don't have to do it all.
Speaker:Just plan in one day kind of process.
Speaker:Okay, good.
Speaker:Perfect. Okay.
Speaker:So we can talk through,
Speaker:and I want to in a little bit,
Speaker:some of the first steps that people would take,
Speaker:but before we even get there,
Speaker:how did you land on really wanting to put your focus
Speaker:on Shopify?
Speaker:Give us a little bit of your backstory.
Speaker:So my degree is actually in web development,
Speaker:I went to a four year college for that.
Speaker:And after college,
Speaker:or I guess kind of in my last year of college,
Speaker:I started creating wedding invitations,
Speaker:which is totally separate and random,
Speaker:but I really liked doing illustrations.
Speaker:And I found wedding invitations being a nice way that I
Speaker:could still kind of have that creative outlet by hand.
Speaker:And so I was looking for a way to sell them
Speaker:online and grow that business and being a web developer,
Speaker:I started looking at different platforms and trying to figure out
Speaker:where I wanted to host it.
Speaker:I actually first built my website on WordPress,
Speaker:but quickly realized it wasn't really set up the best for
Speaker:an online store.
Speaker:And that's when I came across Shopify and I've built my
Speaker:online store for my wedding invitation business,
Speaker:but I also realized how much I just absolutely loved building
Speaker:the store itself.
Speaker:And I knew I wanted to continue doing that more as
Speaker:well. So just a lot easier.
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:WordPress is great too,
Speaker:but let's face it then with your experience,
Speaker:you can do custom websites all day long if you want
Speaker:it to.
Speaker:Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker:Yeah. It's just simpler,
Speaker:easier, whatever with Shopify,
Speaker:which all right,
Speaker:so that's piqued everyone's interest too.
Speaker:All right away.
Speaker:Well, and that was 10 years ago too.
Speaker:So 10 years ago,
Speaker:Shopify, I thought was like really amazing compared to other platforms
Speaker:now fast forward 10 years.
Speaker:And they're definitely a top contender for top eCommerce platform.
Speaker:When did Shopify start?
Speaker:Do you know?
Speaker:Cause I'm thinking.
Speaker:Cause I think I moved my website over to Shopify probably
Speaker:seven or eight years ago,
Speaker:but it isn't that much newer than that really 10 years
Speaker:Let us do this.
Speaker:Like 2007 was when it was originally started.
Speaker:I may be wrong though.
Speaker:12, 13 years ago,
Speaker:something like that,
Speaker:approximately. All right.
Speaker:So just in terms of grounding and then we'll start getting
Speaker:into more of the details.
Speaker:Why do you favor Shopify over some of the other programs
Speaker:like big commerce or some of these others that are out
Speaker:there For me?
Speaker:I think it's a couple of different reasons.
Speaker:Shopify is super intuitive and it's a really clean interface as
Speaker:well. So it's easy to understand the information and locate different
Speaker:sections where other platforms you have a lot of nesting content
Speaker:and it's kind of harder to find some information for your
Speaker:site, Meaning like you have to find it through drop-downs or
Speaker:something like that.
Speaker:Exactly. Yeah.
Speaker:Okay. So going into different dropdown areas and it's kind of
Speaker:more hidden pages of the site to edit some random checkout
Speaker:setting. And it's just not all in an easy to digest
Speaker:format like Shopify is,
Speaker:And just by its name,
Speaker:it's really conducive to the types of websites that everyone listening
Speaker:here would be putting up,
Speaker:right. Because it's for a shopping experience.
Speaker:Exactly. But I think what also sets them apart is that
Speaker:they think about more than just your online store.
Speaker:They think about more of the needs of the merchant.
Speaker:So they have these different sales channels.
Speaker:That's what they call them to where you can link in
Speaker:your store and sell your products on Facebook and Instagram and
Speaker:Pinterest. And they make it really easy for you as a
Speaker:merchant. They don't expect you to have to do everything and
Speaker:they just make it a really easy process.
Speaker:And even with their app store,
Speaker:you can add in a wishlist for your store in 15
Speaker:minutes. And it's just a lot more of a seamless process
Speaker:overall. Okay,
Speaker:perfect. And blogs or whatever you're going to do.
Speaker:So it gives you a lot of the flexibility that WordPress
Speaker:sites would,
Speaker:but in an easier to use platform.
Speaker:Yeah. I would say so.
Speaker:Okay. Alright.
Speaker:So let's convince people who might have brick and mortar shops,
Speaker:why they should have a website.
Speaker:We might even be able to just say one word COVID
Speaker:Right. I was going to say,
Speaker:well, I think we got a good example for sure.
Speaker:Yeah. But what else?
Speaker:I mean,
Speaker:what would you say would be the reason to have a
Speaker:presence online?
Speaker:Because a lot of people let's face it have brick and
Speaker:mortar shops or they're out selling at craft shows and they
Speaker:have a Facebook page.
Speaker:So they feel they have a presence.
Speaker:Yeah. I think it's really about making sure that you were
Speaker:in front of your ideal customer at whatever moment that they
Speaker:are interested in purchasing from you.
Speaker:So it's great.
Speaker:Of course,
Speaker:when people come into your store,
Speaker:however, sometimes that may not be possible due to different issues.
Speaker:And so having an online presence where people can purchase from
Speaker:you online is really helpful,
Speaker:but you can also connect in and sell your products on
Speaker:Instagram. So if they're scrolling through on Instagram and they see
Speaker:something and go,
Speaker:Oh my gosh,
Speaker:I love that they can actually click and just purchase right
Speaker:there. So it's not just scroll on by and don't really
Speaker:think about it again.
Speaker:You're kind of connecting with people in other ways.
Speaker:And with like,
Speaker:if you were to build an email list online,
Speaker:being able to then target and connect with that audience and
Speaker:give them your latest products and information is a really helpful
Speaker:way to just build your,
Speaker:and really make sure that you're building that huge fan base
Speaker:around your business.
Speaker:Yeah. And I'm also thinking,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:with the power of Google to be able to be found
Speaker:when someone's searching.
Speaker:Oh yeah.
Speaker:If you don't have a website,
Speaker:your Facebook page,
Speaker:isn't going to show up on search,
Speaker:but a website will.
Speaker:And I mean,
Speaker:sometimes Facebook pages do show up,
Speaker:but a lot of times,
Speaker:if someone's Googling your specific business,
Speaker:they're looking for your website,
Speaker:not your Facebook page.
Speaker:Right. And so it is great to have that presence online
Speaker:so that they can purchase from you,
Speaker:however they find you online,
Speaker:but they don't have to come into your store.
Speaker:They can purchase from anywhere around the world.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:So let's talk Shopify then specifically for someone who is brand
Speaker:new, who's putting up a Shopify site.
Speaker:What should I be thinking about what are the first steps
Speaker:that I should be taking?
Speaker:So I would say the first steps are overall just thinking
Speaker:of what products you're going to put on your store.
Speaker:A lot of times a brick and mortar store may choose
Speaker:not to put all of their products online and just to
Speaker:have a curated collection really kind of depends on your catalog
Speaker:of inventory that you have.
Speaker:However, I would definitely start thinking about the products and something.
Speaker:That's going to make your product stand apart from everywhere else
Speaker:online. It's going to be really good product photography.
Speaker:So getting some kind of little studio set up,
Speaker:even if it's just a white table that you're taking photos
Speaker:on, or maybe you're adding in some props,
Speaker:but really start thinking about the products that you're going to
Speaker:be selling and how you can group and categorize them together
Speaker:as well as start taking some of those product photos.
Speaker:Okay. We should decide on the products and then have our
Speaker:images ready.
Speaker:I'm trying to like make a little kid of things before
Speaker:they go to start building a website.
Speaker:Like what types of things should you have ready?
Speaker:Right. Kind of the building tools so that I'm thinking product
Speaker:titles and descriptions.
Speaker:Yeah. It would be great if you had all that ready.
Speaker:Of course you could type it into Shopify as you go.
Speaker:But if you have more time ahead of time to start
Speaker:working on that,
Speaker:even in like an Excel spreadsheet file,
Speaker:I think it will be really helpful in making the process
Speaker:go a lot faster.
Speaker:Once you do get into Shopify.
Speaker:So we can start building once we get into the Shopify
Speaker:platform. So you can do that one way or the other.
Speaker:Exactly. All right.
Speaker:So we dump over to shopify.com
Speaker:and what happens from there.
Speaker:So they actually have a 14 day free trial,
Speaker:so you can sign up for there and spend two weeks
Speaker:building out your store and not have to pay the monthly
Speaker:fee, which the basic monthly fee is $29 a month.
Speaker:And the next one up that includes gift cards,
Speaker:which are pretty popular with a lot of people is $79
Speaker:a month,
Speaker:but you would then have two weeks free and then you'd
Speaker:be a charge,
Speaker:whatever plan that you chose.
Speaker:But in that two weeks,
Speaker:you could go ahead and essentially build out your entire store.
Speaker:So that as soon as your trial is over,
Speaker:you were ready to launch.
Speaker:And so what does it mean as this is where people
Speaker:will get nervous?
Speaker:Right. So what does it mean to build out a store?
Speaker:How do you do that?
Speaker:Yeah. So you'll put in your product information,
Speaker:really think about how you're going to categorize products in a
Speaker:meaningful way to your customers.
Speaker:So instead of just putting shop and have that be all
Speaker:of your products on one page,
Speaker:you really want to think about how a customer is going
Speaker:to come to your site and either be looking for specific
Speaker:products or go through your collection of different products and see
Speaker:what peaks their interest the most.
Speaker:So you may want to,
Speaker:for example,
Speaker:if you were selling apparel in your brick and mortar store,
Speaker:you would probably want to have a men's section and a
Speaker:women's and kids,
Speaker:and then you could even break it down further to be
Speaker:like women's tops,
Speaker:women's bottoms and break it out into different buckets or categories.
Speaker:And that's what you'll be setting up in Shopify as those
Speaker:categories and then filling on what the different products.
Speaker:Okay. So I love that.
Speaker:And this is where I think it's kind of like when
Speaker:you write a blog,
Speaker:like you get online,
Speaker:you pull up your blog section and then you have a
Speaker:blank page and you don't know what to do.
Speaker:Right. So that's where I was feeling like,
Speaker:it's a good idea.
Speaker:Before you go into Shopify,
Speaker:even to kind of envision what you want your site to
Speaker:look like,
Speaker:and you might do that by going and seeing other sites
Speaker:online that you like product sites.
Speaker:And then just what you're saying now,
Speaker:like envision how you think you'd want it versus going there,
Speaker:then then starting to build and seeing that it's not looking
Speaker:right. Build to what a vision is that you have for
Speaker:your site,
Speaker:I think would be an easier way to do it.
Speaker:So just like you were saying,
Speaker:I love that collections,
Speaker:et cetera,
Speaker:the different types of product segments,
Speaker:however, that would be,
Speaker:Yeah. And I'd like to add.
Speaker:So I think a lot of people fall into a trap
Speaker:of they know their products very well.
Speaker:And so it makes sense to them to group it a
Speaker:certain way,
Speaker:but to their ideal customer or just the regular person,
Speaker:it may not make as much sense.
Speaker:So I would really make sure that whenever you're thinking through
Speaker:that, as well as thinking through your product names,
Speaker:you're really keeping your ideal customer in mind.
Speaker:Absolutely. And those of you who have not listened to the
Speaker:podcast about product names and descriptions for SEO,
Speaker:go back to that episode,
Speaker:you can go to gift biz on rap.com
Speaker:forward slash search search for SEO and listen to that because
Speaker:what we've been learning now is that those fun,
Speaker:fancy creative names for products that we like don't get found
Speaker:in search.
Speaker:You know,
Speaker:so we have to do these boring yellow lemon scented candle
Speaker:somewhere, either in the description,
Speaker:you can still have the fluffy,
Speaker:fun wording as well,
Speaker:but you have to have the basic stuff too.
Speaker:Yeah. If you're just starting to make sure to catch that
Speaker:episode as well and use these two in tandem,
Speaker:for sure.
Speaker:How do you feel about having a lot of products?
Speaker:We're product based businesses?
Speaker:Obviously the goal is to sell a product.
Speaker:How do you feel and what is the right thing for
Speaker:product based businesses?
Speaker:Do you have a lot of your products on your home
Speaker:page? Do you have a teaser or just in terms of
Speaker:good practice for design?
Speaker:What should we have on our homepage?
Speaker:I would definitely feature on your home page,
Speaker:any products that you're primarily wanting to push,
Speaker:especially for doing any kind of advertising for online.
Speaker:Now, I wouldn't send your advertised traffic to your homepage.
Speaker:I would send them to whatever specific product and collection it
Speaker:was. However,
Speaker:if they did navigate to your home page as well,
Speaker:that way you're still highlighting that product there.
Speaker:But I would say overall,
Speaker:in terms of the quantity,
Speaker:I would limit it to maybe eight is the max that
Speaker:I would do on your homepage,
Speaker:unless you broke it up in different sections.
Speaker:A lot of times people are only on your site for
Speaker:about seven seconds and then they will leave or choose to
Speaker:stay on your site longer.
Speaker:And so you only have seven seconds to grab people's attention
Speaker:and a wall of text or a wall of products.
Speaker:Doesn't really grab someone's attention as much as maybe a larger
Speaker:image or some bigger call-out texts would in that seven seconds
Speaker:that you have.
Speaker:Yeah, because I've seen some sites where you just go and
Speaker:all it is is like square after square,
Speaker:after square product price,
Speaker:product, price,
Speaker:product price.
Speaker:I not suggesting it to Shopify site,
Speaker:but to me that's first off overwhelming.
Speaker:If I'm looking for one thing,
Speaker:plus it's just too much in your face product and price,
Speaker:I guess I'd say like,
Speaker:I want to know more.
Speaker:I want to know more about who's behind the business.
Speaker:I want some beautiful pictures maybe of I'm sticking with candles.
Speaker:Cause you know,
Speaker:I love them.
Speaker:That's why we have that first question there,
Speaker:but maybe seeing some candles lit in how beautiful the candles
Speaker:are like in a life scene and then getting into maybe
Speaker:the categories of the candles or the sizes of the candles.
Speaker:So I have some fuel over my experience and where I'm
Speaker:trying to go towards my purchase.
Speaker:Exactly. And you want to make sure that you're really grabbing
Speaker:your viewer's attention and hopefully getting some kind of feeling out
Speaker:of them to where they're going to stay on your site
Speaker:longer. And bigger images is going to definitely resonate with a
Speaker:lot more people.
Speaker:If your ideal audience already then a bunch of different product
Speaker:information, if they're still kind of trying to figure out what
Speaker:your site is,
Speaker:it doesn't really make sense to show all of your products
Speaker:right up front.
Speaker:Okay. So that kind of brings us to the conversation of
Speaker:themes. And we haven't really talked about that in relation to
Speaker:Shopify. So for somebody who's brand new,
Speaker:who is going to go through their 14 day trial,
Speaker:has their products figured out,
Speaker:they get to Shopify,
Speaker:create their starter account.
Speaker:And then at some point you get to a point where
Speaker:you're supposed to choose a theme.
Speaker:What is that all about?
Speaker:So themes are what Shopify calls.
Speaker:They're basically templates,
Speaker:but they're designed templates.
Speaker:So you can go in and pick,
Speaker:they have different free themes and paid themes.
Speaker:And you can pick ones that have different types of layouts
Speaker:and feature different types of content,
Speaker:like larger images or a large background video.
Speaker:There's a lot of different themes that you can choose from.
Speaker:But I think people get really caught up in the theme
Speaker:stage because it seems kind of scary,
Speaker:but also I think you'll look and see some of the
Speaker:examples that other people have done and you think,
Speaker:Oh, this theme is going to be perfect for me.
Speaker:And I want my site to look like this site.
Speaker:However, whenever you add your own images in,
Speaker:it may not look the same or work.
Speaker:So I find a lot of times that people aren't thinking
Speaker:through of all of the assets that they have available to
Speaker:them, like the different,
Speaker:big images,
Speaker:individual product images,
Speaker:videos, if you don't have that kind of content available,
Speaker:or you're not able to shoot it,
Speaker:then it probably won't work on a different theme like that
Speaker:you'll want to choose a different style.
Speaker:And I think a lot of times people just don't really
Speaker:think ahead of time about what kind of things that they
Speaker:already have or what they can create When you're on a
Speaker:theme. Are you able to eliminate certain portions of the theme
Speaker:or do you have to use every section that the theme
Speaker:has when you first see it?
Speaker:No, you can definitely eliminate sections.
Speaker:You can duplicate them,
Speaker:you can hide it if you want it to show it
Speaker:up for later,
Speaker:like a black Friday promotion that you were getting ready in
Speaker:October or something like that.
Speaker:And so you do have a lot that you can play
Speaker:with there in the theme section and build it how you
Speaker:want. However,
Speaker:the overall style of the layout is kind of chosen through
Speaker:the theme that you choose,
Speaker:Right? And of course you can customize your colors to match
Speaker:your brand and all of that.
Speaker:Are there any themes that you gravitate to over and over
Speaker:again that you would recommend or is it different for everybody?
Speaker:Honestly, I feel like it's completely dependent on the individual store
Speaker:and I don't really have a theme that I would say
Speaker:that I use on a continual basis.
Speaker:And I think part of that reason is also because there's
Speaker:constantly new Shopify themes being added as well as older ones
Speaker:are being grieved done and have new functionality.
Speaker:So there's always something interesting and exciting to kind of try
Speaker:out for me as a web developer.
Speaker:I definitely get excited about that.
Speaker:And I'm not suggesting that you change your site design that
Speaker:often because that's a lot of work,
Speaker:but there's a lot of great options there.
Speaker:So I don't really have a specific name that I can
Speaker:recommend. Okay.
Speaker:Any advice?
Speaker:This is from personal experience.
Speaker:We chose a theme that now isn't really updated that much
Speaker:and doesn't have a lot of support,
Speaker:which I'm so frustrated with because I paid somebody to help
Speaker:me with the Shopify site.
Speaker:We just simply didn't have the time.
Speaker:Is there anything,
Speaker:as you're looking at themes that you should consider,
Speaker:like who the developer is,
Speaker:whether they have multiple themes,
Speaker:how often they've updated or anything to help people.
Speaker:So they don't get into a situation we were at where
Speaker:we're a little bit limited and some of the changes are
Speaker:a struggle.
Speaker:Yeah. I would definitely look in the themes area.
Speaker:They have reviews so people can actually review the theme and
Speaker:they have links to their developer websites.
Speaker:So you can go to the website,
Speaker:see individual reviews there.
Speaker:Sometimes the developer website will actually have a discount on their
Speaker:theme and you can also see overall how many themes they
Speaker:have as well as the documentation of how to change things
Speaker:on the theme.
Speaker:There. A lot of them,
Speaker:I think over the last few years have built out more
Speaker:of that.
Speaker:There, there are definitely some people that just have one or
Speaker:two themes.
Speaker:However, there's a couple now that have five themes per studio.
Speaker:So they're really dedicated full time.
Speaker:Okay. Yeah.
Speaker:And it's possible that because we started when Shopify was very
Speaker:new, that it just might not be something that particular company
Speaker:is doing all the time anymore.
Speaker:I don't know.
Speaker:We'll probably be in need of a change at some point,
Speaker:but okay.
Speaker:All themes,
Speaker:I'm guessing have integration with shopping carts because it is Shopify
Speaker:after all,
Speaker:do all themes,
Speaker:have the ability to add blogs and other types of things
Speaker:through app ad-ons or should we be looking specifically for certain
Speaker:things when we're looking for themes?
Speaker:So all of the themes have the core functionality of blogs,
Speaker:pages, products,
Speaker:and collections.
Speaker:So you don't have to worry about picking a theme based
Speaker:on that.
Speaker:That's just core functionality that's built in with Shopify.
Speaker:Now each theme can style it differently though.
Speaker:So definitely if you are wanting to do a blog on
Speaker:your site,
Speaker:blogs are styled very differently across the different themes.
Speaker:So I would definitely go into the different theme areas and
Speaker:look and see what the blocks look like for each of
Speaker:those sections.
Speaker:But they do have some additional functionality added into different themes.
Speaker:However, you are going to get the largest amount of additional
Speaker:functionality through Shopify app.
Speaker:Okay. And so let's merge in and talk a little bit
Speaker:about that then as well.
Speaker:Wait a question.
Speaker:When you buy a theme one time charge to buy the
Speaker:theme and then you use it.
Speaker:Yeah. So it's a onetime charge.
Speaker:You can only use it on one store and then they
Speaker:do typically have to where you can update your theme to
Speaker:the latest version without a charge.
Speaker:Okay. Yeah.
Speaker:And if I started with a theme and I'm like,
Speaker:this is not the one I want to use,
Speaker:I want to go to a different one.
Speaker:You obviously have to buy that second one then.
Speaker:But if you change your theme will all your information then
Speaker:transfer over into that theme.
Speaker:So sadly Some of your information will not transfer over.
Speaker:You'll have your products and collections there you'll have your blog
Speaker:and any kind of navigation that you had set up.
Speaker:All of that will still be there in Shopify.
Speaker:However, you're still going to have to go through that new
Speaker:theme and set up your typographic choices and your color choices
Speaker:and adding your images and do that theme customization process again,
Speaker:Add in your images.
Speaker:Yeah. You'll have to add all that into the new theme,
Speaker:the logos,
Speaker:but your products would transfer over.
Speaker:Yeah. Your products will be there.
Speaker:Your navigation will still be the same,
Speaker:but you'll have to go in and redesign your homepage to
Speaker:include whatever images or texts you want in different areas.
Speaker:And you'll have to go through that process again,
Speaker:It's not a total rework,
Speaker:which is good.
Speaker:Okay. So somewhat of a sigh of relief,
Speaker:but just in case that was,
Speaker:were to happen or someone wants to change,
Speaker:they want to update what their site looks like.
Speaker:Have it look different for some reason.
Speaker:Okay. So now let's get into apps.
Speaker:What are apps?
Speaker:So are a great way To really extend your functionality on
Speaker:your Shopify store.
Speaker:And there are so many different apps out there for probably
Speaker:anything you could think of,
Speaker:but there's a lot of cool ones that can help you
Speaker:do like rewards programs so that you're giving your customer a
Speaker:reward for shopping with you online kind of like a percentage
Speaker:total to maybe a $10 discount for their next shopping trip
Speaker:or something like that.
Speaker:You can do reviews on your site wishlist.
Speaker:There's so much different functionality that you can incorporate on your
Speaker:site through the use of Shopify apps.
Speaker:Yeah. I'd also say another one that we use is the
Speaker:shipping. Oh yeah.
Speaker:So that then,
Speaker:cause it's so cool.
Speaker:When someone orders,
Speaker:it gets placed on the Shopify site as an order,
Speaker:but then it goes directly into,
Speaker:I used shipping easy.
Speaker:So it goes directly in there.
Speaker:We don't have to retype addresses or anything.
Speaker:All we have to do is pick and pack,
Speaker:do a packing insert.
Speaker:So it shows all the products that are there,
Speaker:put it on the scale,
Speaker:pretty much enter dimensions,
Speaker:click print,
Speaker:and the address comes out,
Speaker:which also so good because then we don't by accident transpose
Speaker:addresses or anything.
Speaker:Well, I'm shipping easy as,
Speaker:and other providers like that are great.
Speaker:Also if you're doing like a bulk order that you're putting
Speaker:through. So if you're doing 10 different orders at the same
Speaker:time, that are the same product,
Speaker:they make it so fast and easy to do things in
Speaker:bulk. That really just speeds up your process of fulfilling orders.
Speaker:Okay. Perfect.
Speaker:And that's all done through apps.
Speaker:Yes. Let's see.
Speaker:I'm trying to think of some other cool apps that people
Speaker:could think about using that.
Speaker:Just make their site different.
Speaker:Are there apps for how you can do the popups with
Speaker:people have questions like for a chat?
Speaker:Would that be through an app apps and more right after
Speaker:a quick break?
Speaker:Yes. It's possible increase your sales without adding a single customer.
Speaker:How you ask by offering personalization with your products,
Speaker:wrap a cake box with a ribbon saying happy 30th birthday,
Speaker:Annie, or at a special message and date to wedding or
Speaker:party favors for an extra meaningful touch.
Speaker:Where else can you get customization with a creatively spelled name
Speaker:or find packaging?
Speaker:That includes a saying whose meaning is known to a select
Speaker:to not only our customers willing to pay for these special
Speaker:touches. They'll tell their friends and word will spread about your
Speaker:company and products.
Speaker:You can create personalized ribbons and labels in seconds,
Speaker:make just one or thousands without waiting weeks or having to
Speaker:spend money to order yards and yards print words in any
Speaker:language or font,
Speaker:add logos,
Speaker:images, even photos,
Speaker:perfect for branding or adding ingredient and flavor labels to for
Speaker:more information,
Speaker:go to the ribbon print company.com.
Speaker:Yeah. So those Chat popups,
Speaker:there is a free Facebook messenger popup that you can add
Speaker:in, but there's also additional ones that go into whole customer
Speaker:support ticketing systems.
Speaker:You can also do popups for promoting your email newsletter.
Speaker:So you could have a popup,
Speaker:does a discount code that you're promoting.
Speaker:And I mean,
Speaker:honestly, there's so many different functionalities.
Speaker:I imagine at this point that if you go to the
Speaker:app store and you type in something,
Speaker:you'll probably find an app for it.
Speaker:There's just so many options out there.
Speaker:Now It's kind of like candy going in and looking at
Speaker:everything that's available.
Speaker:I want this,
Speaker:I want this.
Speaker:Exactly. But I will say two things about that.
Speaker:First off,
Speaker:you need to definitely make sure that you're being mindful about
Speaker:the app costs and that you're not going to be surprised
Speaker:because these apps typically do costs and additional charge.
Speaker:And so it's going to be,
Speaker:I've actually logged into a client's store before that had like
Speaker:$500 a month in app.
Speaker:She had so many apps going on and it was just
Speaker:too many and too much money spent on apps every month.
Speaker:So make sure that you're still just being on top of
Speaker:it and making sure that the apps that you're adding or
Speaker:helping with functionality on your site and are not going to
Speaker:be something that you kind of forget about later on and
Speaker:are still paying Worth it.
Speaker:Like what the result is,
Speaker:is worth.
Speaker:It they're actually being used either by customers or you and
Speaker:good point that the apps mostly are charged monthly.
Speaker:So versus the flat fee for the theme.
Speaker:Yeah. So it is an ongoing charge there.
Speaker:Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:So just from your perspective,
Speaker:how do you feel we're coming into a website with the
Speaker:focus as the business owner,
Speaker:on displaying our products and having people be able to purchase,
Speaker:what do you think about like the about page and having
Speaker:information on there as the owner,
Speaker:the designer of the product,
Speaker:how important do you feel that is?
Speaker:Oh, I think it's absolutely crucial.
Speaker:And I think you've done a really great job of covering
Speaker:it in your last different podcasts interviews where you're talking about
Speaker:your overall story and making sure that you have that branded
Speaker:photo that you can put on your site in different locations
Speaker:because people are yes.
Speaker:Interested in the products,
Speaker:but they are going to be buying from you specifically because
Speaker:they like your story.
Speaker:They like your brand,
Speaker:what you stand for.
Speaker:And so being able to convey that both visually and through
Speaker:of course the different language on like your,
Speaker:about page or even just your homepage,
Speaker:I think is super important to make sure that you're sharing
Speaker:your story throughout your site.
Speaker:Good. Yes.
Speaker:I'm glad you said that.
Speaker:And another caution,
Speaker:I guess I would say that I was thinking about as
Speaker:you were talking is if you're just now putting up your
Speaker:website, so this is going to be something new and fresh
Speaker:for your business.
Speaker:Don't create a whole new brand.
Speaker:Make sure you stick with the same colors that you're using
Speaker:at a craft booth or the same logo too.
Speaker:Or if you're going to change,
Speaker:then change out everywhere.
Speaker:Because what I've often seen happen is people will go to
Speaker:a craft show.
Speaker:I've seen this happen to myself,
Speaker:I've liked something,
Speaker:got swayed away,
Speaker:didn't buy or want to buy more and then go to
Speaker:the website and it looks completely different.
Speaker:And it's like,
Speaker:okay, is this even the same company anymore?
Speaker:Like, I don't know.
Speaker:So it's fun to do something new and to have a
Speaker:website if you never have before,
Speaker:but make sure it stays in line with what you're already
Speaker:presenting out to the market.
Speaker:So there's synergy when people come over then to your website.
Speaker:Yeah. If you want it to be cohesive so that if
Speaker:they saw you online and then saw you at the booth
Speaker:or vice versa,
Speaker:they would know who you were and be excited to see
Speaker:you and excited to see your products.
Speaker:And you don't want them to completely forget that they've already
Speaker:interacted with you before.
Speaker:Right. And I think another big point for a website that
Speaker:we haven't talked about,
Speaker:and I think this is by way of an app.
Speaker:Although some themes might have it.
Speaker:You'll tell me,
Speaker:Al is you definitely want a place where people would be
Speaker:able to enter in an email address and not just to
Speaker:sign up for your newsletter because most people won't do that.
Speaker:You have to have something enticing,
Speaker:some great reason why they'd want to share their email with
Speaker:you. But this is a great way to start developing a
Speaker:prospect base.
Speaker:Obviously customers you'd have emails,
Speaker:but I'm surprised out like through my one Shopify site,
Speaker:we have people signing up for more information there all the
Speaker:time. I wasn't expecting it to be as much as it
Speaker:is. It is.
Speaker:That's awesome.
Speaker:Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker:But is that through an app I've kind of forgotten?
Speaker:So no,
Speaker:every theme does have an email newsletter built in functionality.
Speaker:Some will have additional popups that you can do on the
Speaker:site to collect the email address.
Speaker:Plus through Shopify is just a default functionality.
Speaker:You can actually choose in the checkout process.
Speaker:If you want to have a button that says sign up
Speaker:for our mailing list.
Speaker:So that way you can potentially also get them on your
Speaker:newsletter after they've made a purchase as well.
Speaker:Okay. And that would integrate with lots of different email providers
Speaker:so that it automatically goes over Exactly.
Speaker:And email marketing is really a great way to interact continually
Speaker:with your customers online.
Speaker:Everyone really needs to be building an email list because social
Speaker:media platforms can change their algorithm and your reach can be
Speaker:gone. But with email marketing,
Speaker:you can really specifically talk to your customers and build that
Speaker:know like,
Speaker:and trust factor that everyone's always talking about that we know
Speaker:is so important,
Speaker:but you actually are kind of building that community and tribe
Speaker:through email more than you can in social media and other
Speaker:platforms. I mean,
Speaker:we keep talking about this because it's so good.
Speaker:Important. Yeah.
Speaker:That I rely on social media platforms because what if they
Speaker:go away,
Speaker:what you own is your email list.
Speaker:So I'm glad that you mentioned it for first time listeners
Speaker:and to some people might be saying,
Speaker:I've heard that before.
Speaker:I've heard that before.
Speaker:Okay, great.
Speaker:But make sure you're doing it.
Speaker:Yeah. And even with e-commerce you can do a lot of
Speaker:additional things with email marketing.
Speaker:So you could,
Speaker:for example,
Speaker:do a kind of a win back campaign is typically what
Speaker:it's called,
Speaker:but it would be if someone had purchased from you before,
Speaker:but hasn't purchased in the last 90 days,
Speaker:you can send them an email that says,
Speaker:Hey, we missed you.
Speaker:Check out our latest products.
Speaker:You could put a discount code in there,
Speaker:something like that to try and reengage someone who you already
Speaker:know was interested at some point before.
Speaker:And so you can do a lot of this kind of
Speaker:more targeted messaging and showing your products to people who know
Speaker:we're going to be the most interested to buy.
Speaker:And along with it,
Speaker:abandoned cart emails.
Speaker:Yes, definitely got to have abandoned cart.
Speaker:Emails is in every Theme.
Speaker:Where do you think There's a core functionality of Shopify?
Speaker:So it's actually added into the notifications area and the settings,
Speaker:and you can go in and change a wording there on
Speaker:the abandoned cart.
Speaker:And that's already set up for you plus different email providers.
Speaker:Also like if you were using a Claveo or MailChimp,
Speaker:they also have their own abandoned cart,
Speaker:email templates that you can use as well.
Speaker:Okay. Perfect.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:I picked my theme.
Speaker:I added my products.
Speaker:I've started tweaking it,
Speaker:adjusting it.
Speaker:It's starting to look good,
Speaker:but I want some feedback on this before I press live.
Speaker:Is there a way to share something that's still in draft
Speaker:mode with somebody else or no?
Speaker:Yeah. So you'll have,
Speaker:until you connect up your domain,
Speaker:you'll have a password protection on your site,
Speaker:but you can send an actual,
Speaker:there's a share preview link whenever you're creating and customizing your
Speaker:theme. And you can actually click that share preview link and
Speaker:get an actual URL that you can share.
Speaker:I wouldn't necessarily share it online publicly.
Speaker:I would share it more like an email or private mastermind
Speaker:groups, something like that to get feedback.
Speaker:And that way you're not sending a flood of traffic to
Speaker:your site when people can't purchase yet.
Speaker:Right? No,
Speaker:I'm thinking that if you want to show it to maybe
Speaker:someone who's been helping you with your photography or just get
Speaker:some feedback before it goes live,
Speaker:that you really are feeling good about it.
Speaker:And again,
Speaker:you don't have to have everything in place,
Speaker:but you want to have a lot of it set up,
Speaker:right? Because as you said,
Speaker:Al, it's a work in progress for sure.
Speaker:Always. I mean,
Speaker:my sites have been up forever.
Speaker:I go back and tweak them anyway,
Speaker:and you're going to add products and change things out and
Speaker:add promos and all of that.
Speaker:And I would even say,
Speaker:if you're going to share it,
Speaker:I would share it.
Speaker:It's great to get friends and family's input on things and
Speaker:other business owners.
Speaker:But if you know someone who is your ideal customer,
Speaker:I would share it with them and get their opinion and
Speaker:make sure that you're not going to be changing something.
Speaker:Just because your mom says she doesn't like this color that
Speaker:you're doing it based off of your branding and what your
Speaker:ideal customer would gravitate towards.
Speaker:Yeah. That's a great point.
Speaker:Steaks, have you seen people make on Shopify that we should
Speaker:be aware of?
Speaker:So we don't do them right from this.
Speaker:I would say my biggest mistake that I see literally happen
Speaker:every single day is when people are doing,
Speaker:especially Facebook ads,
Speaker:they're sending the traffic from the ad to their homepage.
Speaker:And that is a huge waste of money because there's a
Speaker:lot of distractions that they can get into on the homepage.
Speaker:And you're not sending it,
Speaker:especially if you're featuring in a specific product in your ad,
Speaker:you need to have the link for that Facebook ad go
Speaker:to that specific product page because you want to make sure
Speaker:they like this.
Speaker:Okay. Here's where you buy it.
Speaker:You don't want to give them reasons to get distracted on
Speaker:your site,
Speaker:right. Fewer steps in between that ad and the purchase button
Speaker:As possible.
Speaker:Exactly. Cause if there's On the site,
Speaker:they may want to look at all of the product selections,
Speaker:read about a few of the products,
Speaker:make a choice and then buy.
Speaker:But all of that presale stuff virtually has been done in
Speaker:your area,
Speaker:Right? Yeah.
Speaker:Hopefully, Hopefully,
Speaker:then they're just going to buy.
Speaker:Okay. Good,
Speaker:good point.
Speaker:What else do you see?
Speaker:I'd say also kind of what we've been talking about as
Speaker:not really thinking through of your ideal customer and their experience,
Speaker:and that can be even something like your images aren't really
Speaker:properly optimized for the web.
Speaker:Maybe you're uploading your huge 300 DPI image from your photographer
Speaker:and the image takes forever to load in.
Speaker:And it's kind of like random loading park.
Speaker:And so because of that,
Speaker:definitely people on mobile devices,
Speaker:won't be able to see that image at all.
Speaker:And it is probably going to distract people on desktop and
Speaker:they're going to click away.
Speaker:So thinking about your ideal customer in terms of branding for
Speaker:your site and your messaging,
Speaker:but also in terms of where are they coming to your
Speaker:site from and how can you really make sure that that
Speaker:experience is optimized for them?
Speaker:So loading times,
Speaker:and this goes back to,
Speaker:I think the testing with a customer,
Speaker:the experience to understand where to go,
Speaker:to find what they need,
Speaker:just the whole navigation type thing,
Speaker:but yeah,
Speaker:from a customer,
Speaker:especially when we start looking at it and working on these
Speaker:website development,
Speaker:you see it all the time.
Speaker:So you know where everything is,
Speaker:cause you've put it there,
Speaker:but a customer might not.
Speaker:And I still go back to the idea of look at
Speaker:other sites that you really like imagery.
Speaker:Yes. But now look at it by layout.
Speaker:And it's not just within your own product category either.
Speaker:In fact,
Speaker:I'd suggest better to go outside of your product industry when,
Speaker:see what other things people are doing,
Speaker:how they're laying things out and what appeals to you and
Speaker:what would work with If your product line.
Speaker:Yeah, I think that's a great tip to really look at
Speaker:others. And you don't have to just look at your competitors.
Speaker:You could look at someone in a completely different industry,
Speaker:but see how they're really doing a good job of telling
Speaker:their story throughout their site and admiring certain aspects like that,
Speaker:of how they've arranged things on their site to better flow
Speaker:and tell that story.
Speaker:I think it's great to always be looking for inspiration,
Speaker:but still keep in mind that assets that you have available.
Speaker:So if you do love this video effect that they have
Speaker:on your site,
Speaker:then start thinking about,
Speaker:okay, how could I actually create my own video before moving
Speaker:into that stage?
Speaker:Perfect. The other thing I hear often is make sure that
Speaker:you're talking in your customer's language and not just talking to
Speaker:a customer,
Speaker:right? So if they're coming into your site,
Speaker:you're welcoming them in.
Speaker:So you want to talk about them,
Speaker:why they should be here,
Speaker:why the product is good for them,
Speaker:not everything about them.
Speaker:Exactly. Yeah.
Speaker:You really want to make sure that you're using language,
Speaker:that's going to help sell your product and really resonate with
Speaker:your ideal customer.
Speaker:So for example,
Speaker:let's say your candle,
Speaker:you could of course just say on the site,
Speaker:here's this candle,
Speaker:it's the scent,
Speaker:it's the size.
Speaker:It burns for however many hours and that'd be that.
Speaker:Or you could create more language.
Speaker:That's going to resonate with your ideal customer by talking about
Speaker:unwind after a long day,
Speaker:perfect candle for a bath and just have more imagery in
Speaker:your that really resonates with people more and gets them more
Speaker:excited about your product more than it's eight ounce candle.
Speaker:You really just try and think about some of that form
Speaker:More the results and the benefits through wording and imagery,
Speaker:as you're saying.
Speaker:Yeah, I think benefits are what sells the product more than
Speaker:the product specs.
Speaker:And I think a lot of people get so just focused
Speaker:on putting the product specs.
Speaker:And so their product description is a sentence long and has
Speaker:a couple different numbers in it for the specs themselves.
Speaker:But you're not really selling it to them.
Speaker:You're hoping then that the image sells it to them.
Speaker:So why not just do both and have the image,
Speaker:sell it to them as well as the copy that you
Speaker:have there?
Speaker:Yeah, Absolutely.
Speaker:And as we learned in a couple episodes back then making
Speaker:all tags for the images to describe the benefits as well,
Speaker:because then that can be searched on too.
Speaker:Exactly. And especially if you're going through the beginning process of
Speaker:setting up your store,
Speaker:or maybe you're going through a redesign now taking the time
Speaker:to add in the different SEO,
Speaker:keywords and different areas of your site,
Speaker:as well as in your alt tags,
Speaker:like you mentioned,
Speaker:is really going to pay off in the long run and
Speaker:just make sure that you're building that foundation altogether.
Speaker:I don't want you to get overwhelmed feeling like next to
Speaker:do everything at once,
Speaker:but while you're in there setting up the products,
Speaker:it is always really helpful to be mindful of those different
Speaker:areas that you can optimize.
Speaker:What does do,
Speaker:If I offer in terms of customer support or does that
Speaker:go down to the themes you purchase or if I'm getting
Speaker:stuck somewhere,
Speaker:what do I do?
Speaker:Yeah. So there's customer support through different apps.
Speaker:If every app company will have its own customer support,
Speaker:same with themes,
Speaker:but then Shopify overall has customer support.
Speaker:That's 24 seven and it's a chat support.
Speaker:I think the call support is 24 seven as well,
Speaker:but I just find the chat super helpful.
Speaker:You do the chat bubble,
Speaker:you can type in your issues and you also connect it
Speaker:to your Shopify store.
Speaker:So that way they can actually see whatever issue that you're
Speaker:having and walking you through.
Speaker:Certain areas are better explain it because they're able to actually
Speaker:see your site.
Speaker:And so it's kind of just the regular chat exchange,
Speaker:but it's always really helpful.
Speaker:And if there's any additional questions,
Speaker:they're great about following up through email as well.
Speaker:Well, okay.
Speaker:So that makes me feel a lot better,
Speaker:Right? Yeah.
Speaker:Their customer support is good On your own wonderful final comments
Speaker:about Shopify and why it's the best platform for your website?
Speaker:Yeah, I think overall Shopify is really doing a lot of
Speaker:things now for merchants,
Speaker:including like how I was saying before about being able to
Speaker:list your products on Facebook and Instagram and Pinterest.
Speaker:But I think they're also really thinking about the future experience.
Speaker:So they just recently in may had said about different product
Speaker:functionality and features that are coming out to Shopify later on
Speaker:this year.
Speaker:And they're really kind of taking notice of what's happening obviously
Speaker:in the world and changing the Shopify platform to really help
Speaker:merchants even more.
Speaker:So they're rolling out local deliveries and contactless pickups at stores
Speaker:and having that functionality built into Shopify already.
Speaker:And there's a lot of other things that they're rolling out
Speaker:later this year as well,
Speaker:but it's just really,
Speaker:I think,
Speaker:great that they're constantly innovating and on the forefront for e-commerce
Speaker:overall. Perfect.
Speaker:We need them to be on the forefront because we can't
Speaker:think of everything,
Speaker:right. Yeah,
Speaker:no, while it just makes it so much more helpful because
Speaker:if they're sharing that with us,
Speaker:then we don't have to figure it out and we then
Speaker:look better to our customers too.
Speaker:Yeah, that's very true.
Speaker:All right.
Speaker:Tell me more about curious themes and what you're all about.
Speaker:Yeah. So I started curious themes,
Speaker:as I said before,
Speaker:I kind of got hooked after the first Shopify site that
Speaker:I built and I have been listed as a Shopify expert
Speaker:for seven years now.
Speaker:And in that time I did a lot of work.
Speaker:One-on-one building Shopify stores,
Speaker:I've built over 150 Shopify stores and I've learned a lot
Speaker:of things that entrepreneurs kind of deal with throughout the process.
Speaker:But I've also learned that I just really love entrepreneurs.
Speaker:I love their excitement,
Speaker:their motivation,
Speaker:their drive for things.
Speaker:And so I really wanted to kind of help as many
Speaker:entrepreneurs as possible.
Speaker:So here lately,
Speaker:I've really kind of been transitioning a lot more to giving
Speaker:different content through my YouTube channel and online courses,
Speaker:all about Shopify and e-commerce.
Speaker:So tell us more about your online courses.
Speaker:What kind of topics do you cover?
Speaker:So I have two different online courses.
Speaker:One is called e-comm and a weekend,
Speaker:and it actually takes you from the very beginning of you're
Speaker:signing up for your free Shopify trial to all throughout the
Speaker:process of setting up everything to the end of launching your
Speaker:store and how to actually fulfill your customer's orders.
Speaker:And then the second course is called your traffic blueprint.
Speaker:And that's where we talk about how to actually market your
Speaker:store. Now that it's launched a lot of times,
Speaker:people still think,
Speaker:okay, build it and they will come.
Speaker:And sadly,
Speaker:that's just not true.
Speaker:And so you need to really make sure that you're doing
Speaker:kind of an overall strategy to market your business.
Speaker:So we cover things like email marketing,
Speaker:how to increase your conversion rates on your site,
Speaker:how to run paid ads with Facebook and Pinterest,
Speaker:as well as social media and PR,
Speaker:because it's really an overall strategy where if you just did
Speaker:social media.
Speaker:Yeah, that's great.
Speaker:But you're not getting the full piece.
Speaker:And by adding in even just email marketing or maybe some
Speaker:paid advertising,
Speaker:you're really going to be able to scale up your online
Speaker:store even more.
Speaker:Exactly. I totally agree with you.
Speaker:And it breaks my heart.
Speaker:And I do see this even in my group where people
Speaker:will be like,
Speaker:I put up my website last weekend.
Speaker:I haven't had any sales.
Speaker:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker:But how are people going to know that it's there,
Speaker:you know,
Speaker:both of these courses sound really,
Speaker:really valuable,
Speaker:love to know that they exist.
Speaker:Where would people find out more about all of this?
Speaker:Yeah. So you can go to my website,
Speaker:curious themes.com.
Speaker:So you can see both the courses there,
Speaker:but I also have a free guy there.
Speaker:We talked a lot about themes and the free guide,
Speaker:actually a theme checklist.
Speaker:So it kind of gives you some different prompts to go
Speaker:through so that you can kind of narrow down that theme,
Speaker:especially if you're going to be paying for your theme,
Speaker:you want to make sure that you're paying for one that
Speaker:you're going to really and want to use for a while
Speaker:and not want to constantly be changing it up for sure.
Speaker:Oh, that sounds so helpful.
Speaker:Yeah. So there's a free guides there in the navigation area.
Speaker:And the theme checklist is right on that page where you
Speaker:can go through the different prompts there to hopefully try and
Speaker:find a theme that works best for you.
Speaker:Perfect. I love that.
Speaker:So where do you,
Speaker:You see yourself as you're going into the future,
Speaker:how do you see yourself or curious themes expanded?
Speaker:Yeah, so I really love online video and I've been growing
Speaker:my YouTube channel for a while,
Speaker:talking about different Shopify tutorials.
Speaker:However, I'm going to be transitioning it here actually pretty soon
Speaker:to be more kind of overall e-commerce tips and feedback and
Speaker:tutorials for you to really help you grow your business no
Speaker:matter what point you're at online.
Speaker:But my bigger vision is actually to this may sound crazy
Speaker:because I'm coming at it right now.
Speaker:It's straight e-commerce point of view.
Speaker:But my bigger vision is to actually open my own brick
Speaker:and mortar store and feature different sustainable brands and handmade artists,
Speaker:and really show the process and document everything from the very
Speaker:beginning of renovating the space on through setting up the point
Speaker:of sale system,
Speaker:connecting and setting up the Shopify store with it,
Speaker:and really just document the whole process behind the scenes.
Speaker:Not only as an eCommerce Shopify store owner,
Speaker:but also as a brick and mortar store owner as well.
Speaker:Love that.
Speaker:And I think there's so much conversation about,
Speaker:Oh, brick and mortar is dead.
Speaker:It's like thing of the past,
Speaker:it is not dead.
Speaker:It's transitioning,
Speaker:it's different,
Speaker:but I think that's exciting because people are going to circle
Speaker:back to recognizing that.
Speaker:And I'm not talking about the mass chain stores.
Speaker:I'm talking about the smaller boutiques,
Speaker:just like you're describing the one that you would be putting
Speaker:up. Are you staying in Nashville?
Speaker:I'm not sure yet.
Speaker:And then we're still probably a bit off because of recent
Speaker:events with COVID,
Speaker:we're kind of changing things up there,
Speaker:cause I'm not sure about the timeline for that or the
Speaker:location, but definitely something that I'm really focused on doing.
Speaker:And I think you're absolutely right.
Speaker:Brick and mortar is not dead.
Speaker:I think it's just changing.
Speaker:And I think the different crisis happening in the world right
Speaker:now is making people realize even more than it's really about
Speaker:the community and making personal connections with people.
Speaker:So yeah,
Speaker:you can purchase and find anything you want from Amazon,
Speaker:but you don't really know the story behind it.
Speaker:You don't know the faces behind it.
Speaker:And I think a lot more people are switching to buying
Speaker:more local,
Speaker:small business and just being more mindful about building up their
Speaker:community. Absolutely.
Speaker:And along with those brick and mortar stores come websites.
Speaker:And that's what we talked about here today.
Speaker:That was perfect.

Speaker:your knowledge on Shopify,
