Shownotes

For the last 10 years, Scott Norman, has been the Chairman of the National Automotive Service Technology (AST) committee for SkillsUSA. Scott is also the USA Technical Delegate for Worldskills.

First a judge.
In 1997, he judged his first SkillsUSA Automotive Service Technology National Competition and has since been involved in more than 25 national and international “Skills” competitions.

Scott Norman and organizations like SkillsUSA and WorldSkills are working hard to engage young students and help promote career and technical education so we will have a future skilled workforce in automotive technology.

Off to Worldskills.
Scott was appointed by Skills USA to represent the US in World Skills in 2017.worldskills-usa-logo-300x264 It will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Grassroots.
Skills USA has thousands of competitors, where it all starts locally in high schools and colleges. It goes from local to regional and then to state. The state winners go to the nationals where thousands of participants and volunteers work toward finding a winner in each category.

Medal competition.
The caliber of technician skills are strong and as they reach this level their personal skills get sharp. Every competitor works toward the medal awards of Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Sponsors. Support.
Twenty industry corporations support the program with their time and money. They seek a partnership with this non-for-profit. Anyone wanting to get involved ,just email Scott Norman. See link below.

Your help.
WorldSkills Competitions are very competitive and the USA wins only a few medals in each competition. We field a small team from the US because financially we cannot field a large delegation. Additional funds would help our delegation depth and medal opportunities.

The competition implies a desire to win and you can get involved at the grass roots level at your local automotive high school or college program.
