Speaker:

Hey, everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to a special edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

It's special because guessing is back.

4

:

Yup.

5

:

JD missed me.

6

:

Yep.

7

:

Shady is back.

8

:

I think it was referencing slim, shady.

9

:

You know, just a little bit.

10

:

Just keeping it, keeping it real keeping.

11

:

Okay.

12

:

Well, yes, I'm back.

13

:

It's been great.

14

:

So thank you guys for tolerating.

15

:

My absence.

16

:

I think you held it down pretty well.

17

:

I mean, I saw 30, 45 minute episodes.

18

:

Every day, I think.

19

:

Clearly my, my presence

here keeps you short.

20

:

That's that's one of my big roles here

is just to make sure I don't get, make

21

:

sure you don't talk for 45 minutes.

22

:

Don't get on my high horse.

23

:

I mean, Yeah, your horse is quite tall.

24

:

Yeah.

25

:

Wow.

26

:

It really can't be it's 45 minutes tall.

27

:

It's.

28

:

Many occasions.

29

:

I felt like I did an okay job.

30

:

I cut it at like 20.

31

:

25 30.

32

:

I mean within the ballpark.

33

:

Right.

34

:

I set out every, every

episode to keep it short.

35

:

And then it's just the

spirit led well, okay.

36

:

Which spirit?

37

:

I don't know.

38

:

We're not keeping track

of which spirit it is.

39

:

Just a spirit, a spirit.

40

:

Yeah.

41

:

Whichever one decided to

influence you that day.

42

:

But dude, you're back.

43

:

You were gone for like three

months and now you're back.

44

:

Feels like it.

45

:

Yeah, no, but you had a good time.

46

:

I had a great time.

47

:

I mean.

48

:

Vacations are there, they're a skill.

49

:

They're a discipline and they are work.

50

:

Um, which, which might be surprising

because a good vacation takes.

51

:

Skill to plan it well, and to

execute, it takes discipline, not

52

:

to do things that you ordinarily

would do or even would want to do.

53

:

And then it takes work because vacation

isn't, the cessation of activity

54

:

is actually just a, kind of a, it's

just a different form of activity.

55

:

So I've loved it.

56

:

I got to spend a ton

of time with my family.

57

:

I was talking to somebody, um,

Today, I guess maybe yesterday.

58

:

Saying that one of the things that

I thought of this vacation and in

59

:

part, because I read a, an article

that CJ Mahaney wrote about how to

60

:

vacation well, and he directed it

to fathers, I highly recommended.

61

:

In fact, maybe I'll find the link

and I'll put it in the show notes.

62

:

If I can remember.

63

:

But he talks to dads and say,

basically, dads, your job is to do

64

:

this for the sake of the family.

65

:

They deserve your presence.

66

:

They deserve your engagement.

67

:

They deserve your work.

68

:

And so I took that to heart and I

really worked hard to love my family

69

:

well, and to serve them well, because

one of the reasons that it motivated

70

:

me is that I realized this is one of

the last summers I'm going to have my

71

:

kids in this particular season of life.

72

:

Yeah.

73

:

Maybe in the future

we'll vacation together.

74

:

And I would, I would,

I would welcome that.

75

:

I'd love that.

76

:

But my son, Jacob, he's getting

older and he's trying to get a job

77

:

he's actively working toward that.

78

:

I'm sure he will at some point soon.

79

:

And then next summer he might be

working toward a car or something

80

:

else that he wants to buy.

81

:

And so my time with the family

in this particular season

82

:

of life is coming to an end.

83

:

Which is bitter sweet and wonderful.

84

:

It's one of those things where I'm,

I'm grateful for the opportunity.

85

:

So thank you for giving me the time off.

86

:

Um, even though, I mean, I begged

you pastor Pete, you to let me have

87

:

time off and you very reluctantly.

88

:

Well, yes.

89

:

When you're gone, everything falls apart.

90

:

Yeah.

91

:

Yeah.

92

:

Clearly.

93

:

No you talking about that.

94

:

There's a song by, uh, the

great theologian, Brad Paisley.

95

:

Called so many summers.

96

:

Oh, and it's about that whole idea.

97

:

You only get so many summers.

98

:

And one of the things that always hits

me in the fields, there's a line where

99

:

he, this old man is sitting, watching

his grandchildren play on a playground.

100

:

And a dad comes up and sits down next

to the old man and the dad they'll

101

:

man, the grandpa looks at the data

and says, Hey, soak up this time.

102

:

You only get so many summers with them.

103

:

Right.

104

:

And it's like, Ooh.

105

:

And so the course is all about, Hey,

go throw the ball, swim with the

106

:

kids, have fun, play with them because

you want me to get so many summers.

107

:

I mean, it's gone life, man.

108

:

Life is so fleeting and fragile.

109

:

And I think that's one of the

themes of my, my, my year so far

110

:

is just appreciating that and

recognizing like, I don't get a lot

111

:

of these and I want to make sure

that I don't look back with regret.

112

:

I'm sure there's going to be regret.

113

:

I can't, I can't avoid that.

114

:

Yeah.

115

:

But I can avoid not regretting

the moment saying I'm going

116

:

to do this as well as I can.

117

:

So yeah.

118

:

Great.

119

:

A great vacation.

120

:

My family, we explored Dallas.

121

:

We didn't, we didn't go anywhere.

122

:

You know that people always

ask where'd you guys go.

123

:

And I say, we go home.

124

:

We went home every night.

125

:

It was great.

126

:

Uh, and part of the reason is that

we're still new to the, to the area

127

:

that we didn't know about anything.

128

:

So we've got to explore some really

cool places that Dallas has offered.

129

:

In fact, If you come, I know people

are going to say, go here, go there.

130

:

But this is one of the

places you should check out.

131

:

That was surprising to us

was the Dallas aquarium.

132

:

Yeah.

133

:

Have you been there yet?

134

:

Uh, I have not, but it was it, the Dallas

court, one of the aquariums suffered

135

:

quite a lot of dead fish recently.

136

:

Uh, Fort worth, man.

137

:

One maybe is Fort worth because

I didn't see any dead fish here.

138

:

Well, that's good.

139

:

And in fact, Contrary to the name.

140

:

You might expect a lot

of fish at this place.

141

:

There's not, there's not, it's

actually quite a number of birds.

142

:

Which I don't know what the deal

is with that, but it was, it was.

143

:

It was well-designed

and it was a lot of fun.

144

:

Aviary.

145

:

Yeah, I don't understand why they call it.

146

:

Uh, I mean, there's, there's fish,

there's, there's some aquatic

147

:

animals there, so I'm not going to

say that there's none, but it was

148

:

surprising how few there were, as

opposed to how many birds there

149

:

were, and that wasn't mad about it.

150

:

It was, there was a slot

in one of the places and.

151

:

I mean, there was cost, there

was, there was a shark area.

152

:

Really cool.

153

:

I've heard sharks.

154

:

You can't necessarily

keep them in captivity.

155

:

Some of them like the great white

shark will die in captivity.

156

:

Oh, that's sad.

157

:

Yeah.

158

:

Well, Oh, he's not so great.

159

:

If you guys activity, cause

Shamoon his fan like flops over.

160

:

Yeah, I heard that.

161

:

And the documentary made

a big deal about that.

162

:

The black fish or whatever.

163

:

Yeah.

164

:

So anyway, I'm back.

165

:

I'm glad to be back.

166

:

I was, I was itching by, I mean, by two

days ago, my kids went back to school.

167

:

I was just itching to come back

into the office and I almost

168

:

did, but I'm glad you didn't.

169

:

I stayed home.

170

:

Like, you know what?

171

:

They don't want me there anyway.

172

:

I'm happy here.

173

:

Let me just soak up these last few days.

174

:

We're glad to have you back, but I'm glad

that you got that full amount of time.

175

:

The best food that you

had while on vacation.

176

:

Not cooked by your wife.

177

:

That's yeah.

178

:

It's just always the right answer.

179

:

Isn't it.

180

:

So we went to several spots.

181

:

In fact, I probably gained

about 10 pounds on vacation.

182

:

I think it's going to say something,

but I thought better of it.

183

:

No, man.

184

:

I did it right.

185

:

I said to myself, self we're

going to enjoy this thing.

186

:

So I'm going to let loose a little bit

and enjoy the family and enjoy some food.

187

:

And anyway, so I did that.

188

:

Uh, one of the places I went that

I really liked was burger house.

189

:

You ever been there?

190

:

Yep.

191

:

Their fries are amazing.

192

:

I mean, yeah, they're a little fried Jews.

193

:

Certain have Jews.

194

:

Powder.

195

:

Yeah, she's sitting.

196

:

That's the one.

197

:

Yeah.

198

:

No, it was really tasty.

199

:

I was surprised I was.

200

:

It was good.

201

:

And so we went to the one near SMU.

202

:

There's a couple spots,

I guess the one near SMU.

203

:

And I heard about it from this guy

named or this channel called Daytripper.

204

:

And so he goes around different spots in

Texas and he reviews different things.

205

:

And so he led us to this

and we went actually to the

206

:

George Bush library as well.

207

:

The museum.

208

:

Yeah.

209

:

And so we went to the burger house.

210

:

It was great.

211

:

It was a really hot day.

212

:

So we ended up having to park far

away, which didn't work out so nicely.

213

:

Uh, but we ended up doing it.

214

:

We walked, we went to the burger stand.

215

:

It was fantastic.

216

:

We really enjoyed it.

217

:

It's a good burger is not a great burger.

218

:

It's a good burger.

219

:

And we liked that.

220

:

That was one of the best for sure.

221

:

Yep.

222

:

Burger house is good.

223

:

There's another place

called burger street.

224

:

That is also a good burger.

225

:

Okay.

226

:

And the same area.

227

:

Uh, th th that one, they've

got a couple of locations,

228

:

other places in Dallas, but no.

229

:

Yeah, hold on.

230

:

I forgot one big way to send you.

231

:

Wait, wait, hold the record.

232

:

You push pause, Bedo and sons.

233

:

Wait, what?

234

:

Beethoven son rather not plural.

235

:

Beethoven son be ETO and son

like the guy that's running

236

:

for governor against Abbott.

237

:

Not that beta.

238

:

Okay.

239

:

But yes.

240

:

Downtown Dallas.

241

:

Okay.

242

:

Beta and sun, neck TexMex,

but Mexican, mostly.

243

:

Some of the best Mexican

I've had in Texas hands down.

244

:

That's a big compliment from you.

245

:

That's like going to California.

246

:

And I found good barbecue,

which will never happen.

247

:

And it would be like, Duty.

248

:

I was, I was so, and I

had no expectations going.

249

:

Yeah.

250

:

Because the owners.

251

:

Uh, our parents to one of our members.

252

:

Okay.

253

:

Yeah.

254

:

Now I know what you're talking about.

255

:

Okay.

256

:

Okay.

257

:

So I didn't go with expectations

of this is going to be amazing.

258

:

Oh, okay.

259

:

Yeah, that'd be cool.

260

:

You know?

261

:

Yeah.

262

:

It go to the restaurant, enjoy

them, enjoy the whatever.

263

:

So I went just thinking

this is gonna be fun.

264

:

It'll be fun to get to know their food.

265

:

And I was not that I was shocked

that it was tasty, but I was just

266

:

like, man, I didn't expect anything.

267

:

And this is everything.

268

:

I loved it.

269

:

I w I w I will go back there

every vacation, so help me, God.

270

:

Yeah.

271

:

I want to go someday.

272

:

I've heard should yeah, you should.

273

:

We're visiting them.

274

:

And I didn't realize that he

walked in wearing his shirt and

275

:

everything about the restaurant.

276

:

I was like, oh, we need to go.

277

:

Yeah.

278

:

I mean, I really enjoyed.

279

:

That's cool.

280

:

I think at walking away from

it, I was just, I was impressed.

281

:

So go with minimal expectations

and you'll have it.

282

:

Well, good.

283

:

Good.

284

:

Well, we're glad to have you back, man.

285

:

I'm glad to have you in the office.

286

:

Thank you for indulging my,

my, my recalling of the event.

287

:

I know everyone's been asking,

everyone's been wanting to know.

288

:

How's vacation going.

289

:

But I did miss this.

290

:

I D I D I love routine.

291

:

I love the Bible.

292

:

I love the daily Bible podcast.

293

:

I'm glad to be back.

294

:

Well, I'm glad to have you back.

295

:

And so our people, I guarantee you.

296

:

All right.

297

:

Hey, Jeremiah 38 through 40.

298

:

We're giving the Jeremiah 38.

299

:

And like I said, in yesterday's

episode, we we've got to get

300

:

pastor rod to insights here.

301

:

On 38 and 37.

302

:

So 37, 11 through 21 records, a

situation where Jeremiah is arrested.

303

:

He is beaten and he's thrown

in prison in Jonathan's house.

304

:

Yup.

305

:

Uh, he then.

306

:

This is called by Zedekiah.

307

:

Is that a kayak kind of has a

secret meeting with them, says,

308

:

Hey, has anything changed?

309

:

No.

310

:

Uh, and then he's in

prison in the palace guard.

311

:

Well then chapter 38

opens and in chapter 38.

312

:

Hey guess what?

313

:

Jeremiah is arrested again.

314

:

And he's, he's imprisoned, not

in Jonathan's house though,

315

:

but he's thrown in a sister.

316

:

So many parallel event.

317

:

Yeah.

318

:

Chapter 37 38.

319

:

I kind of showed my cards yesterday.

320

:

Um, PR I'm curious to get your thoughts.

321

:

Alright.

322

:

Parallel events or different events.

323

:

No, totally different.

324

:

I mean, yeah, totally different there.

325

:

And they're placed next to each other

because they're at the magically similar.

326

:

Yeah.

327

:

So Jeremiah clearly thought for his

life on multitude, multiple occasions.

328

:

And this is one of those, in fact, I

think the sister was meant to kill him.

329

:

I think that was the intention.

330

:

Yeah.

331

:

Clearly.

332

:

Uh, so this is different and yet same

in that it's the magically similar,

333

:

but I'll, I'll see your question and

I'll raise you one when we get to

334

:

it, because I have questions as well.

335

:

Okay.

336

:

Yeah.

337

:

I didn't miss those questions.

338

:

Cause I got to just say whatever I want.

339

:

And I didn't get to ask myself.

340

:

Challenges whatsoever.

341

:

I'm going to tell you now I

got some questions for you.

342

:

No doubt the sister was made to and

meant to be the death of Jeremiah.

343

:

I mean this, this sister.

344

:

And if you look at verse six, I

mean, he's, he sinks down into the

345

:

mud when he's lowered down into it.

346

:

Um, And this is a situation where they

were going to lead him to starve to death.

347

:

And there's a sense in which

there's parallels here in.

348

:

In Joseph's life, right.

349

:

Joseph was taken and thrown into a

sister and as well by his brothers.

350

:

And then they thought, you know what?

351

:

We can make some money off of him and

not just kill them by selling them to the

352

:

Ishmaelites and God ordained all that.

353

:

But here.

354

:

You've got this guy named EBID Mellick.

355

:

now.

356

:

That is not servant to the king.

357

:

Exactly.

358

:

That that's not his actual name.

359

:

Uh, It's a euphemism it's a nickname.

360

:

It's that means servant of the king.

361

:

Yeah, Evan Mellick.

362

:

And so he, uh, being the servant of the

king, he has a soft spot in his heart

363

:

for Jeremiah, perhaps it overheard

conversations between Zedekiah.

364

:

And uh, Jeremiah in the past,

but he goes to and says, Hey,

365

:

something bad has happened.

366

:

This is what they've done.

367

:

We need to rescue.

368

:

And the king and what's interesting

is, is in the proceeding chapter.

369

:

It makes it very obvious.

370

:

The king has very little power.

371

:

Uh, that he kind of fears the.

372

:

The cronies.

373

:

Yeah.

374

:

But here he says, okay, yeah, go get him.

375

:

And he sends Evan.

376

:

Ebedmelech.

377

:

Melik with 30 people and

they go and they bring.

378

:

Jeremiah up out of the cistern.

379

:

And then again, Jeremiah is brought

back before the king again, and

380

:

the king wants to know again, Hey,

is all this still going to happen?

381

:

Jeremiah says you have 14 through 23.

382

:

Yeah.

383

:

It's going to happen.

384

:

Uh, this is what's going to happen

in and you need to be ready for that.

385

:

Um, verses 24 through 28, then the

King's afraid of the people and tells

386

:

Jeremiah, Hey, don't, don't tell any

of the people, what we talked about.

387

:

If they ask you, just tell them

that you implored that I not send

388

:

you back to Jonathan's house.

389

:

So that's a difficult one.

390

:

I'm wondering if that's where your

question is, is coming into play.

391

:

It certainly is.

392

:

Yeah.

393

:

Because it seems like the

king is weak-willed king.

394

:

We can limp wristed king

is telling Jeremiah to lie.

395

:

And Jeremiah seems to suggest that

he accepts that and he uses that.

396

:

He says that basically.

397

:

Yeah.

398

:

That's that's what happened.

399

:

This is, this is what took place.

400

:

God doesn't comment on it.

401

:

At least according to the text, as

we understand it, God's not saying,

402

:

Hey, Jeremiah, don't do that.

403

:

Trust that I got this under control.

404

:

So is this a line number one?

405

:

And if two, it is a lie.

406

:

What do we make of that?

407

:

Come on pastor and residents.

408

:

Yeah.

409

:

It's so.

410

:

Not to fall back on MacArthur, but I will

just, in this instance here at MacArthur

411

:

says in his commentary, he says, Jeremiah

didn't fall into line deception here.

412

:

What he said was true that

we did not divulge all the

413

:

details of the conversation.

414

:

Johnny Mack.

415

:

I love you.

416

:

I respect you, but Billoni so the

reason he says it's true is because

417

:

if you look back and Jack chapter 37,

verse 20, Jeremiah does indeed say.

418

:

please.

419

:

Oh, Lord my king.

420

:

Let my humble plea come before you do not

send me back to the house of Jonathan.

421

:

So in Jeremiah 37 20.

422

:

He did actually plead

on a different location.

423

:

Don't send me, yeah.

424

:

Different different.

425

:

Occasion, right?

426

:

Yeah.

427

:

So it seems to me then if

this is the truth, it's a very

428

:

malleable approach to the truth.

429

:

And so I, I, I get it.

430

:

He's a prophet.

431

:

He's a man of God.

432

:

I understand that.

433

:

Yeah.

434

:

I guess it's just goes back to my initial

thinking that perhaps in, in the mind of

435

:

God, Slicing the details of the truth,

or even, uh, giving enemies the truth.

436

:

Uh, isn't always, isn't always necessary.

437

:

Yeah.

438

:

If I'm going to escape, you know, if

I'm going to protect you as you know,

439

:

that whole situation, if I'm going

to, if I'm going to protect a life in

440

:

this case, Jeremiah's own life, then

giving those who would take my life

441

:

or those who had threatened my family.

442

:

The truth isn't necessary.

443

:

And this is a text I look

at, I can't say for sure.

444

:

God ordained this, but God

has her silent on this.

445

:

And Jeremiah seems to be okay with

it, which gives me the sense of okay.

446

:

Maybe there's a way of thinking

about this and I'm just not

447

:

privy to in this case, I think.

448

:

I mean, the silence is

pretty, pretty glaring.

449

:

It is it's deafening I'm with you

in, in, I initially thought to myself

450

:

kind of the same thing, like, Hey,

Uh, this doesn't seem legitimate here.

451

:

It seems like he is being

deception deceptive.

452

:

Uh, and he's, he's not, he's

certainly not telling the full truth.

453

:

Uh, it's a partial truth at best, at best.

454

:

It's a partial truth, which shows

that a godly man can in fact do

455

:

this, it seems and get away with it.

456

:

There's no commendation.

457

:

I'll give you that.

458

:

There's nothing in the Bible.

459

:

It says, Hey, Jeremiah.

460

:

Yeah, but Jeremiah does it.

461

:

That's my point.

462

:

He does it now that he's

invaluable, but he's the man of God.

463

:

Right?

464

:

He doesn't have any qualms with it and

God doesn't reprimand him for that.

465

:

True.

466

:

However, Church.

467

:

If you're listening to this, I don't

think we're going to find ourselves

468

:

in too many of those situations.

469

:

Sure.

470

:

That sure that we can apply this and be

like, well, Afraid for my family's life.

471

:

So.

472

:

But, yeah, I'm just saying if there is

a time, maybe the, yeah, you're right.

473

:

This is, this is kind of dancing on the

head of a pen situation with the angels.

474

:

Yeah, I get all that.

475

:

I'm just saying there's, there's a

category in God's thinking here that

476

:

there's, there's a place for this fair.

477

:

Totally fair.

478

:

Thank you.

479

:

Yeah.

480

:

All right.

481

:

Chapter 39 then, uh, in chapter 39.

482

:

So again, just to rehash chapter

38, 37 different events, uh,

483

:

similar themes, different events,

different imprisonments there.

484

:

Chapter 39, this, this chapter details.

485

:

The, the fall of Jerusalem,

which began in 5 88, 5 87, and

486

:

came to completion at 5 86 BC.

487

:

It's a 30 month siege is.

488

:

It is what it ends up being

as a Nebuchadnezzar comes in,

489

:

in lay siege to the city here.

490

:

Well verses four through seven.

491

:

Is that a guy doesn't surrender,

even though that's what

492

:

Jeremiah had committed him or.

493

:

We told him he should do in that,

that this would go well for him.

494

:

If he did.

495

:

Uh, but he doesn't surrender, but

he ends up fleeing for his life and

496

:

he is captured by the Babylonians.

497

:

And endures quite a horrific

punishment before being taken

498

:

captive back to Babylon.

499

:

So I mentioned it in one of

the previous episodes where.

500

:

Is that.

501

:

Is is taught by Jeremiah.

502

:

Hey, you're going to die in

peace in Babylon, but he's he's

503

:

death was anything but peaceful.

504

:

Because some of the last things

that this king ever sees is

505

:

that the death of his children.

506

:

The Babylonians end up executing

his children in front of him.

507

:

And then they take his eyesight

just to keep things, uh, as, as.

508

:

As clean as we possibly can.

509

:

They take his eyesight after

executing his children.

510

:

And so that, that's the last

image that ever has in his mind.

511

:

So yes, he is eventually taken captive

to Babylon and he dies in Babylon.

512

:

But I think it's far from a peaceful

death, aside from the fact that

513

:

he's not executed in a militaristic

kind of way, or in a, uh, you

514

:

know, execution as far as lethal

execution or anything like that goes.

515

:

Uh, in a prison in prison or anything

else, this is a, this is a bad

516

:

debt that he has to die because

he's left to suffer with that in

517

:

his mind for the rest of his life.

518

:

And this goes to show what would it

cost someone and rarely do we ever

519

:

think about when I sin, when I, when

I disobeyed God, it's going to result

520

:

in missing these horrific tragedies.

521

:

We, we don't think in these

terms and I'd probably it's.

522

:

Generally speaking, not going to be

the case, but we should think then

523

:

what is the consequences of my sin?

524

:

I can't anticipate exactly

how this is going to fall out.

525

:

Just take a look at His life.

526

:

Which I think God has severe consequences,

even if not immediately in the moment.

527

:

Eventually your sin

will catch up with you.

528

:

Yeah.

529

:

Yeah.

530

:

Verses eight through 10, the

survivors of the seizure taken

531

:

captive by Nebuchadnezzar as captives.

532

:

This is the final, well, not

the final one, I guess this is

533

:

the third of four deportations.

534

:

And so the, the, a lot of them are taken

captive at this point back to Babylon.

535

:

Um, There's a few poor people left

in Judah who are going to pose.

536

:

Essentially no significant threat, so

never can Azure leaves them there to tend

537

:

to the fields and things along that line.

538

:

Uh, those lines, but they're left there

verses 11 through 14 African Ezra orders.

539

:

The release of, of Jeremiah who was

entrusted to this guy named Gedaliah

540

:

and allowed to return to Judah.

541

:

And so Jeremiah is a lot of stay back in

Judah, uh, under the reign of Gedaliah.

542

:

Who's not a king, but a governor

and he's a Babylonian official here.

543

:

Uh, and we're gonna find out

what happens to get alive.

544

:

It doesn't spoiler.

545

:

It doesn't go well for him.

546

:

Uh, but verses 15 through

18 then is chapter 39.

547

:

And the faithfulness of Ebedmelech

is rewarded by the Lord here.

548

:

And so he's commended for

his intercession there to.

549

:

To deliver Jeremiah from

the cistern and the author.

550

:

Jeremiah makes note of that here for us.

551

:

And I think one of the important points

here is that no act of faithfulness

552

:

goes unnoticed by God, by the Lord.

553

:

Yup.

554

:

He goes so far as to say Jesus.

555

:

Uh, that even a cold cup of water given

to a Saint is, is going to be rewarded.

556

:

Yep.

557

:

So I think one of the things

that you should see in this is

558

:

God's attentive, attentive nature

to the details of our lives.

559

:

Small acts of charity of

kindness are not overlooked.

560

:

And I know for some moms, you know,

they were working behind the scenes.

561

:

No one sees them there.

562

:

You know, literally behind closed

doors, you know, taking care of

563

:

kids, wiping noses, changing diapers,

raising up the next generation.

564

:

You know, it's not, it's not the

glamorous kind of job that, you know,

565

:

A C-level executive would get, who's

making a million vagina dollars a year.

566

:

But it's important work that God sees.

567

:

And for those who are faithful in the

small things where no one sees man,

568

:

God sees and that's what's worth it.

569

:

Yup.

570

:

Yeah.

571

:

A reward.

572

:

Jeremiah chapter 40.

573

:

Um, There's this chapter expands a

lot on Jeremiah's release and kind of

574

:

dives into the conflict that remained

for Gedaliah after the siege ended.

575

:

So this is kind of meanwhile, back in

Jerusalem, as, as the captives are gone.

576

:

And, and is that a case

has been carried away?

577

:

This is focusing back here in

Judah and, and things are it's.

578

:

Unrest is basically the way that

it would describe chapter 40.

579

:

Uh, Jeremiah goes back here.

580

:

Uh, but there's more to Jeremiah's

trials that are in front of him.

581

:

Uh, there's going to be a fleet,

a flight to Egypt that he doesn't

582

:

really want to go on because he

knows what the Lord said about Egypt,

583

:

but now get allies on the throne.

584

:

Or raining as governor, at

least there's going to be.

585

:

Disruption and an unrest

amongst the people.

586

:

Chapter 40 is kind of setting up that,

that the conflicts, not over, even

587

:

though that the seizures done, the

city has fallen, the walls are done.

588

:

The Temple's gone.

589

:

Uh, everything is not copacetic.

590

:

Now at this point, there's

still trials to count here.

591

:

Yeah.

592

:

And it's important for us

to see here that got it.

593

:

Tell us the faithful,

those who are still there.

594

:

Look.

595

:

Don't be afraid to serve the Cal DNS.

596

:

He says here in verse nine, dwell in

the land, serve the king of Babylon

597

:

and it shall be well with you.

598

:

This is going to be God's means

of protection, which should tell

599

:

us something about the future.

600

:

Suppose that your worst.

601

:

Political candidate makes makes

office and they're in the they're

602

:

in the driver's seat here.

603

:

Uh, you can see here that God is not

afraid to send his people through the

604

:

midst of adversity and that's his plant.

605

:

That's his purpose.

606

:

He wants him to do that.

607

:

And to trust that his hand of governance

is not gone, it's not like he's

608

:

looking away from the wheel and say,

oh, I didn't realize that the steering

609

:

wheel ended up in the left-hand lane.

610

:

No, God is well aware of

what's happening over there.

611

:

Our job is to be faithful, no matter

who's in office, no matter who's leading.

612

:

And part of it as Jeremiah is telling the.

613

:

Those who are left behind,

like be, be faithful.

614

:

God knows what he's doing.

615

:

Trust him.

616

:

And it's going to be well with you.

617

:

Yeah.

618

:

So trust the Lord, whatever the season is.

619

:

Yep.

620

:

Yeah.

621

:

So I'm 74 and 79.

622

:

Uh, these two Psalms have a lot of

similarities between the two of them.

623

:

And I think they fit in this context.

624

:

It does seem that this is, uh, something

that's written during this season.

625

:

And we read about that.

626

:

For example, in Psalm 74, 3, the enemy

has destroyed everything in the sanctuary

627

:

for seven, they set your sanctuary.

628

:

Uh, which we have every reason to

believe is, is the temple here on fire.

629

:

And they profaned the dwelling place of

your name, bringing it down to the ground.

630

:

And so this does seem to be written

during this season, during this time

631

:

when the temple has been destroyed

when the city is lying in ruins.

632

:

And so the Psalm laments the destruction

here of Jerusalem and in questions.

633

:

Okay.

634

:

How long Israel?

635

:

Uh, should bear the reproach of

the nations and the shame that it's

636

:

suffering under, but then the Psalmus

remembers God's power and his might,

637

:

and he turns to a prayer for him

to act and defend his name and his

638

:

glory among the people remembering.

639

:

Uh, the covenant is 74 twenties.

640

:

He pray specifically have

regard for the covenant.

641

:

And I think this is probably

the Abrahamic covenant there.

642

:

Uh, if not the Davidic covenant and

one of the two wearing this almost is

643

:

asking for God to remember his promises

to the people and not forget them.

644

:

And we've talked about this recently in

the last couple episodes, why God has not

645

:

still even today forgotten his people,

Israel, but still has a future for them.

646

:

Yeah, I really appreciate verse 12.

647

:

It seems to be the change in the chapter.

648

:

Kind of a, I think of it,

the new Testament, but God.

649

:

Um, and that's what you see here yet.

650

:

God is the word, but, but God is the idea.

651

:

But even though we're in trouble, but God,

even though things are looking bad, but

652

:

God, and I think that that'll preach, man.

653

:

Yeah, absolutely.

654

:

Well, Yes.

655

:

It's Psalm 79.

656

:

Again, very similar to the medically to

what we just talked about in Psalm 74.

657

:

Uh, do note though, uh, verses eight

and nine, just the mentality that

658

:

is possessed there by the Psalmist,

which is good for us to remember

659

:

about our own salvation as well.

660

:

When he says, do not remember against

us, our former iniquities, let your

661

:

compassion come very speedily to

meet us for war brought very low,

662

:

but then he says this help us.

663

:

Oh God, of our salvation

for the glory of your name.

664

:

Deliver us in a tone for our

sins for your name's sake.

665

:

And so that the prayer that God would

forgive us or deliver us, or when we

666

:

think about our own salvation, uh it's,

it's not for us at the end of the day.

667

:

It's not ultimately about us.

668

:

We benefit from it.

669

:

No doubt about that, but ultimately

it's for the glory of God.

670

:

And as the Salma Supreme, that God would

deliver Israel nationally corporately,

671

:

it was again for the glory of God.

672

:

And so too, for us, our individual

salvation is also for the glory

673

:

of God as he forgives our sins.

674

:

Yes.

675

:

And amen.

676

:

Yeah, it's going to be back.

677

:

It's going to have you back.

678

:

To put another one.

679

:

In the cancer to speak

well, hopefully it recorded.

680

:

Because our software is not acting.

681

:

21 49, 21.

682

:

But then we went 51.

683

:

But it's not moving.

684

:

2150, the audio input thing is not moving.

685

:

Maybe we didn't record anything.

686

:

We'd have to do this

whole thing over again.

687

:

And they were gonna have to pretend

like we're starting this all over

688

:

again for the first time, and it's

not going to sound as authentic

689

:

because it's not going to be exactly.

690

:

Let's pray right now

that that didn't happen.

691

:

Okay.

692

:

All right, God, we pray that our equipment

just continues to work and we want to

693

:

be mindful of that, that we get these

microphones and these computers and.

694

:

It's such a blessing.

695

:

And yet we also know that if

these things went away, A ministry

696

:

could continue, maybe not this

podcast, but, but other ministry.

697

:

Could continue, but we do thank

you for these things and these

698

:

instruments, these implements that

we get to use on a regular basis.

699

:

God, we do pray that we

would possess the mentality.

700

:

As a people that we are.

701

:

Uh, grateful for salvation that is

ultimately about you and about your glory.

702

:

And even as we read through Jeremiah,

as pastor rod was talking about having

703

:

that mentality of, of trust in you,

that says, okay, even if, if the wrong

704

:

person wins, so to speak in the election,

We're not going to threaten and say,

705

:

we're going to leave the country or

we're going to do any of this, this,

706

:

that, or the other thing, but we're

going to trust you and be here and

707

:

work for the good work for the welfare.

708

:

Even as you instructed in previous

passages, pray for the welfare of

709

:

the city, pray for the welfare of the

nation so that the church can continue

710

:

to do the work that it needs to do.

711

:

And so that's what our

desires, our heart is.

712

:

So help us to do that.

713

:

We pray in Jesus name.

714

:

Amen.

715

:

Amen.

716

:

Are you guys will keep honoring

your Bibles and tune in again

717

:

tomorrow for another episode

of the daily Bible podcast.

718

:

Bye.

719

:

Bye.
