Transcripts

Martin:

Welcome to.

Martin:

Hi Phi for hemp.

Martin:

I am Martin Lindeskog and today I have a guest here.

Martin:

Hello, Hannah.

Hanna:

Hello, Martin.

Hanna:

Thank you for inviting me.

Martin:

Yes, you're welcome.

Martin:

And thanks for joining here.

Martin:

How did we meet?

Hanna:

Well, you and I met at an alternative fair in Gothenburg, didn't we?

Martin:

Yeah. A health fair overhelp, of course.

Martin:

So. And I have known about you and your book, first in Swedish and then translated in

Martin:

English because I know the owner of a company of publishing book company called WIP Media,

Martin:

Anders and his partner.

Martin:

So I met him at the book fair and then he said

Martin:

that he will publish this book.

Martin:

And I said, wow.

Martin:

Then I started this podcast.

Martin:

I thought it was interesting to read a book.

Martin:

And then I was thinking, maybe someday I will meet the water.

Martin:

And now here we are.

Hanna:

Yeah. Yes, he is.

Martin:

Could you start out, tell a little bit about yourself and why did you write this

Martin:

book? And in Swedish it's called is it hampa or CBD?

Martin:

So it's like hemp or industrial hemp and CBD.

Martin:

And we will explain what CBD is standing for.

Martin:

We have talked about that in previous episodes of this podcast and what is what.

Martin:

So why did you write it's actually.

Hanna:

Called Hemp and CBD? A beginner's guide.

Martin:

Yeah.

Hanna:

And since I have a controversial last name.

Hanna:

H ell, I actually published it under Hill.

Hanna:

Hill, yeah.

Martin:

That's good.

Hanna:

So not to offend anybody, the pen name.

Martin:

Yeah, that's great.

Martin:

And we are not here to offend any war zone,

Martin:

but maybe to make the listener to think a little bit about this topic.

Hanna:

Absolutely.

Hanna:

And it's not to replace any medical advice.

Martin:

Yeah.

Hanna:

I'm not a doctor or a researcher of any kind.

Hanna:

I'm just a hemp enthusiast, for the record.

Hanna:

Yeah.

Martin:

And that's maybe building up or coming to you why you wrote this book or started to

Martin:

write about this book, doing research and so on.

Martin:

So could you tell a little bit why did you write this book?

Hanna:

Well, one evening in 2018, in January, I think I got a call from a friend who is also

Hanna:

an alternative therapist, just like me.

Hanna:

And she said, I've got something really

Hanna:

interesting going on.

Hanna:

It's CBD.

Hanna:

Have you heard about it? And I said, no. And she began telling me all

Hanna:

the things that CBD could actually do for you, your body.

Hanna:

And I'm curious and open minded.

Hanna:

I'd like to think so.

Hanna:

I was really thrilled.

Hanna:

So I said to my husband, I think I'm going to

Hanna:

start selling CBD.

Hanna:

And he was like, no, calm down.

Hanna:

Step back.

Hanna:

Think about it.

Hanna:

You cannot get onto everything.

Hanna:

So I did for seven days.

Hanna:

And then when he wasn't at home, I ordered the CBD oil and I didn't really know much about

Hanna:

it.

Hanna:

So I listened to some.

Hanna:

Some pods, some information, and then I began googling.

Hanna:

And that's when I realized that there wasn't much info on CBD in Swedish.

Hanna:

There were some, of course, but not in abundance.

Hanna:

So I began studying in English and I read up.

Hanna:

And the more I read, the more fascinated I

Hanna:

became.

Hanna:

So I have three kids, I'm tired sometimes and

Hanna:

I have.

Hanna:

Sometimes I struggle with memorizing

Hanna:

everything.

Hanna:

So I wrote it down.

Hanna:

So I saved everything into a document.

Hanna:

And then my friend who called me about CBD

Hanna:

initially said, let me read that.

Hanna:

And I said, it's not in a state where you can

Hanna:

get anything out of it.

Hanna:

I have to edit a little bit.

Hanna:

So I began to edit it and I did.

Hanna:

Chapters evolved and all of a sudden there was

Hanna:

a manuscript and by then she didn't want to read it anymore.

Hanna:

So I left it in my computer for like a year.

Hanna:

And then just before Christmas, I think it was

Hanna:

2020, my sister said, come on, send it to a couple of publishing houses.

Hanna:

So I did.

Hanna:

And then I actually got it accepted at one

Hanna:

publishing house.

Hanna:

But when the person called me, doesn't matter

Hanna:

what sex the person had, it said that, you know, this is not going to be a huge book.

Hanna:

It's never going to appear in the windows of these major like Barnes and Noble in Sweden.

Hanna:

Never.

Hanna:

That's never going to happen.

Hanna:

Do you hear me? It's never going to happen.

Hanna:

And I'm thinking, why do you want to publish this book if you don't believe in it?

Hanna:

So I actually turned to wit media because I'd be looking at that publishing house because I

Hanna:

like the Anders and I like the way it works.

Hanna:

And told him to.

Hanna:

The book is accepted by a competition.

Hanna:

Are you interested at all?

Hanna:

And he said, send over the manuscript.

Hanna:

And then he said, okay, I'll publish it.

Hanna:

So he did.

Hanna:

He took it on and published it.

Hanna:

So that's the story.

Hanna:

It wasn't meant to be a book.

Hanna:

So it's my first book, actually.

Martin:

Yeah.

Hanna:

It came about because I really wanted to know what to look for.

Hanna:

What is hemp? What is CBD?

Hanna:

Is it a drug? Because that's what everybody told me.

Hanna:

And is it illegal? You know, it's kind of a guide for shopping

Hanna:

CBD, basically.

Martin:

Great.

Martin:

And we will do here do some new episodes in

Martin:

the future about certain aspects of a book and segments of a book and chapters and so on, and

Martin:

also development what's happened after publishing the book and so on.

Martin:

So we could take the title in what you had in Swedish, very short, because we have talked

Martin:

about that in other episodes, but it could be a good introduction.

Martin:

So what is the acronym CBD standing for?

Hanna:

Cannabidiol.

Hanna:

And it's a cannabinoid that comes originates

Hanna:

from the hemp plant.

Hanna:

And there are many cannabinoids.

Hanna:

Some say over 100, some say over 120.

Hanna:

And I read a paper issued by the European

Hanna:

Union and they say over 140 cannabinoids.

Hanna:

CBD is only one of them, but it's one of the

Hanna:

most famous.

Hanna:

The other one is the THC, which is in Sweden,

Hanna:

where we live, you and me.

Hanna:

It's equivalent of being narcotics, illegal

Hanna:

drugs.

Hanna:

CBD, however, is not psychoactive in the

Hanna:

aspect that it gets you high, because it doesn't.

Hanna:

THC gets you high, CBD doesn't.

Martin:

Yeah. And that's the thing that we probably will talk in a future episode about

Martin:

the situation in Sweden compared to other countries in Europe, European Union and so on.

Martin:

So the natural thing with THC you will not get high on, if I understand it right, but it's

Martin:

classified as this.

Martin:

That's why it's getting so complicated in

Martin:

Sweden.

Hanna:

Industrial hemp is not the same thing as Mariana, industrial hemp, to be called

Hanna:

industrial hemp.

Hanna:

It can only contain about 0.2% THC.

Hanna:

And that amount doesn't get you high.

Hanna:

I wrote that in the book.

Hanna:

If industrial hemp would get you high, you'd have to eat like 600 kilos within 15 minutes,

Hanna:

and that would probably kill you off before you got the intoxication.

Hanna:

So industrial hemp has a really low amount of THC.

Hanna:

And as the name says, industrial, it is used in car industry.

Hanna:

You can do batteries, you can do a lot of things with industrial hemp.

Hanna:

That is the illegal plan, the Mariana.

Hanna:

It doesn't do any of those things.

Hanna:

I think the sole reason for using that is when people want to get high.

Hanna:

And we're talking.

Hanna:

Not that we're talking industrial hemp here,

Hanna:

because in Sweden, the laws and the legislation is really tough.

Hanna:

So no THC whatsoever.

Hanna:

Because every ounce of THC, every particle is

Hanna:

classified as narcotics.

Martin:

Yeah, and we'll probably talk about that at the end here, how you came about a

Martin:

product there without THC.

Martin:

So we have talked about the industrial hemp

Martin:

and name of that, and we talked about on this podcast about applications like in building,

Martin:

in fashion and the long history.

Martin:

So I really like to reread your book and see

Martin:

how much you have done.

Martin:

You say it's a very basic book, but to compile

Martin:

this together in a nice format is great.

Martin:

So I really applaud you for this.

Martin:

And then you had a little bit that we will touch on and that will probably be a separate

Martin:

episode.

Martin:

Also, this word that also acronym e C system.

Martin:

Could you please say that slowly? The system, the balance system.

Hanna:

The cannabinoid system.

Martin:

Yeah.

Hanna:

Yeah. That's the explanation for the brilliance of the hemp plant.

Martin:

Yeah.

Hanna:

When I went to school, and I'm guessing when you went to school, the ECS, the

Hanna:

endocannabinoid system within our bodies, I mean, endo means within the body was just

Hanna:

about discovered, I think.

Hanna:

I never studied it at school.

Hanna:

I've talked to doctors in Sweden who didn't even know about it.

Hanna:

And considering that the endocannabinoid system is the highest self regulatory system,

Hanna:

it's like the boss of all the other systems, the hormonal system, the digestive system, the

Hanna:

nervous system.

Hanna:

If the boss is out of balance, the

Hanna:

organization can be somewhat, you know, unbalanced too, in balance.

Martin:

And we will probably talk more about that.

Martin:

As I said, who did come about this idea? It was pretty recent, right?

Hanna:

Yeah, it was in the.

Hanna:

Oh, you catch me unprepared.

Hanna:

It was.

Hanna:

If it was at the end of the eighties or the

Hanna:

beginning of the nineties.

Hanna:

I mean, CBD has been.

Hanna:

CBD was discovered really, really early and THC in the sixties, I think it was 64.

Hanna:

And then they stumbled upon the endocannabinoid system when they tried to find

Hanna:

out how THC was.

Hanna:

How it.

Hanna:

How that gave you a high.

Martin:

Yeah.

Hanna:

If it was the father of the cannabis research.

Hanna:

It's israeli guy called Rafael meshulam.

Hanna:

Yeah, I'm not sure how you pronounce that.

Hanna:

I think it was him.

Martin:

Yeah. And that's what for me is fascinating.

Martin:

And this is how you could use a podcast for that.

Martin:

You could really dig into it and you could have it in text, you could do it in so many

Martin:

different ways.

Martin:

It struck me when I heard about it.

Martin:

Wow, fascinating.

Martin:

Thanks, Hannah, for bringing this up.

Martin:

Of course, you could google, you could look at Wikipedia, you could stumble on things, but as

Martin:

you have done to create it and compile it into a book.

Martin:

And again, glad that a publishing house like Whip Media said, yes, we will publish it.

Martin:

And be realistic to say that this maybe will not be the biggest best seller.

Martin:

What not? But this could have an influence and to be

Martin:

informative, to start guide and I.

Martin:

Introduction to what is hemp, industrial hemp

Martin:

and what's CBD? And as you said again, please repeat the title

Martin:

in English.

Hanna:

It's called Hemp and CBD.

Hanna:

A beginner's guide by Anna Hill.

Martin:

Yeah, that's great.

Martin:

And also, when you did this writing and you

Martin:

bought CBD online, stumbled on something, could you say what had led to you now, during

Martin:

the years here, when you have tested products and different applications together in your

Martin:

work and so on, what have happened during the years here?

Martin:

Because that's how we met at this fair, because you presented your book and you had

Martin:

this.

Martin:

What's that in English?

Martin:

Is it called ice chocolate or was it called.

Hanna:

Yeah, I don't know if it exists in English, but I make a swedish classical ice

Hanna:

chocolate and I add some, some hemp, broad spectrum hemp oil flavored with orange.

Hanna:

So I usually give those out when I'm at fairs because one, I like chocolates and two, I like

Hanna:

CBD.

Hanna:

And it's a good icebreaker too.

Martin:

Yeah, I really think that's a good, good idea.

Hanna:

So maybe promote a CBD oil or a broad spectrum hemp oil, actually.

Hanna:

And I find it.

Hanna:

I find it really great when it comes to being

Hanna:

anti inflammatory and good for sleep, to mention two things.

Hanna:

People struggle.

Hanna:

Many people struggle with sleep and with pain,

Hanna:

often caused by inflammation.

Hanna:

So the oil is really potent.

Hanna:

Absolutely.

Hanna:

I tried it because I was curious.

Hanna:

I didn't experience any issues.

Hanna:

For example, with my sleep, I could always.

Hanna:

I can fall asleep anywhere.

Hanna:

I can sleep 10 hours a day, still a little bit

Hanna:

tired.

Hanna:

But after trying the broad spectrum hemp oil,

Hanna:

I found that I only need seven to 8 hours.

Hanna:

And I wake up refreshed in February in Sweden.

Hanna:

I mean, the sun doesn't even show during February most of the times.

Hanna:

And I still feel energized.

Hanna:

So that's a win for me.

Martin:

Yeah. And again, now I got lots of ideas what we could talk about in future.

Martin:

So we will do this.

Martin:

This is like an introduction and thanks again

Martin:

for your time.

Martin:

But that's for my, you could say, journey.

Martin:

Also, it was after the pandemic and something with the balance system.

Martin:

I was curious.

Martin:

I searched, I have heard it before.

Martin:

I got introduced to it when I was in college in America and so on in university, and then

Martin:

found out about it and tested it.

Martin:

And I've tested different brands, different

Martin:

type of application products.

Martin:

And then we met and then it was a common

Martin:

denominator.

Martin:

A person that I know from in the past would

Martin:

probably have on the show also here in the future.

Martin:

And that it really clicked and said, wow.

Martin:

Now I found this product that I probably say

Martin:

it's best that I could use and find on the market.

Martin:

And this is, as I said, I am for friendly competition.

Martin:

And then you did research on what's in it, in the product.

Martin:

How will you use it? It's lots of lingo out there.

Martin:

So I think that's.

Martin:

We will talk more about that and how you could

Martin:

use it.

Martin:

And you said about sleep, for example, and

Martin:

then you have a presentation about that.

Martin:

You have different ways that you could use it

Martin:

for.

Martin:

And again, it's to test it.

Martin:

So we'll probably have an episode of also the application and how you could test it and use

Martin:

it in different ways.

Martin:

So could you.

Martin:

Yeah.

Martin:

Continue.

Hanna:

Yeah. Most people don't know, or I'm not saying all people, but many people don't

Hanna:

know, that all mammals have the.

Hanna:

An endocannabinoid system.

Hanna:

And one way of balancing that so that you feel balanced, that you feel great and that all

Hanna:

your systems can work in harmony is by.

Hanna:

Actually, there are some ways, but one really

Hanna:

efficient way is the hemp oil.

Hanna:

So I'm for balance.

Hanna:

So that's one of the great things with this misunderstood plant.

Hanna:

Absolutely great.

Martin:

Yeah. And it will sense that in a way.

Martin:

And this is when it gets very fascinating

Martin:

about this EC system.

Martin:

And you could repeat the name and we'll

Martin:

include that in the show notes also.

Martin:

It's a long word.

Hanna:

It's a long word, the endocannabinoid system.

Martin:

Yeah. So anything else you want to, as this introduction of your water career, you

Martin:

could say, and your book, both in Swedish and English, and your journey here about finding

Martin:

hemp oil products, what you want to say as an end and how you come about what you are using

Martin:

nowadays?

Hanna:

Well, I am an alternative therapist, as it's called in Sweden, and there are many

Hanna:

people who struggle with their health.

Hanna:

And I for one, I mean, you have doctors

Hanna:

helping you, but you can always do something extra.

Hanna:

You can also support your own health besides going to the doctor and getting help there.

Hanna:

And I think that balancing your endocannabinoid system is one really terrific

Hanna:

way of giving your body the conditions needed to function properly.

Hanna:

But with that said, be careful with the products that you are using because in the US,

Hanna:

I mean, the FDA has done tests and some of the CBD oils, they don't even contain CBD.

Hanna:

And one thing to know is that CBD, sorry, the hemp plant is actually like a bioaccumulator.

Hanna:

If you plant it somewhere, it absorbs what is around it in the soil.

Hanna:

They use the hemp plant in Chernobyl, where there was a nuclear disaster in 1986, and they

Hanna:

used hemp there because it absorbs the cesium 137 from the ground.

Hanna:

So you don't want to eat that.

Hanna:

I don't think that's possible because they

Hanna:

take care of it.

Hanna:

But the hemp plant is really potent when it

Hanna:

comes to absorbing things.

Hanna:

So you need to go, you look for bio products

Hanna:

with a certificate of analysis so you know that it's a clean product that you use,

Hanna:

basically, yeah.

Martin:

And that's what you found during your studies and writing the book and then

Martin:

published the book and then translated it.

Hanna:

When I wrote it, yeah.

Hanna:

I wouldn't say I've conducted studies, but for

Hanna:

the researchers.

Hanna:

But I've read a lot of studies and absolutely,

Hanna:

it's great to use the hemp plant, but also it's nothing to replace any medical advice.

Hanna:

But the plant in itself is fabulous.

Hanna:

But be careful so that it's a clean product.

Hanna:

You don't want to get bacteria or heavy metals or cesium 137.

Martin:

Yeah. Into your body, that's for sure.

Martin:

So, yeah, we will continue in talking about

Martin:

this topic, and thanks again for being here.

Martin:

So please tell more about where we could find

Martin:

the book.

Martin:

And I will also include the product that I

Martin:

talked about in the past also here in the show notes, if you want to support the show and you

Martin:

want to test a great product and see for yourself what it could bring and what kind of

Martin:

positive effects you could have.

Hanna:

So, yeah, absolutely do that.

Hanna:

Try the oil.

Hanna:

I recommend it.

Hanna:

The book in Swedish is called Hampa Oxebedia,

Hanna:

and that's available in bookstores in Sweden, online or physical bookstores.

Hanna:

The Hemp and CBD, a beginner's Guide by Hannah Hill, is available on Amazon around the world.

Martin:

Great.

Hanna:

And it's an easy to read book.

Hanna:

I've tried to make it accessible.

Martin:

Yeah, it's very easy to read.

Martin:

And again, it's great work to do this and

Martin:

combine this and put it together.

Martin:

So thanks again, Hannah, for doing this.

Martin:

And we will.

Hanna:

Let me be on the show.

Martin:

Yeah. So we'll talk soon again and more about this topic.

Martin:

So.

Hanna:

Absolutely.

Martin:

Thanks again, Hannah.

Martin:

And if you have any other thoughts or ideas or

Martin:

comments, whatever, and that could maybe be for the listener out there.

Martin:

If you have any questions for Hannah or myself or something that you have been thinking

Martin:

about, you're more than welcome to stay in touch and contact us and so on.

Martin:

So we will include that in the show notes.

Martin:

Also how you could reach out to us and we'll

Martin:

talk more.

Martin:

And I will also talk with my co host here,

Martin:

Adam Tinkov, if you have any fortune input and what we could do in future.

Martin:

So this is a new way of doing this podcast and this show and see what you could develop me

Martin:

into.

Martin:

And we will continue the conversation.

Martin:

I like the expression adding your two cent to the conversation so we can continue that.

Hanna:

Great.

Martin:

Yeah, thanks Ana, and talk to you soon again.

Hanna:

Yes.

Martin:

Bye bye for now.
