Shownotes

For thousands and thousands of years we’ve used gold as money. At some stage, whether part of the role out of CBDC’s (Central Bank Digital Currency) or something else, odds are high gold may form the base of a new global reserve currency.

Russia, China and others are working on a new currency to trade with, and central banks are gobbling up new supply of gold at a rate not seen since 1967. It could be tempting to think gold will spike in value denominated in USD, but you also have to consider what value the USD has in this scenario too. Getting the ‘what’, the ‘how’ and the ‘when' right, are all needed for this to be a good speculative bet. I'd be cautious here. There’s no guarantee in that future there would even be a marketplace for gold outside of central banks.

So is gold going to be useful here for when the train runs out of track?

Rich Elliott and Chris Howard are my special guests today, from MyGold.
