President Donald ‌Trump says he will issue a $5,000 ⁠payment to every adult citizen in the United States if Republicans secure a majority in Congress.

“Here is my promise,” Trump said on Wednesday at the first of its kind Republican Midterm Convention. “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of ‌them ... ⁠because of our tremendous strength and ‌success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.”

It’s been one year since Turning Point USA founder and conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors allege that Tyler Robinson, 23, fatally shot Kirk. Robinson pleaded not guilty at a hearing on Sept. 1 to a murder charge that a judge ruled could carry ‌the death penalty. Republicans at the midterm convention on Wednesday broke out in chants of “Charlie, Charlie,” in recognition of Kirk after Trump acknowledged that Thursday is the one-year anniversary of his death.
