Death”,

suffer
from
the
fate
death
thirds. We
first
face
life’s
inevitable
end, The
second, a
return
earth
once
more, And
third,
disappear
others’
thoughts Our
names
no
longer
spoken,
truly
gone. The
gods
immortal
do
not
share
that
first But
linger,
dying
not ‘til
third
forgets, Their
worshippers
long
gone
lost
time. They
wait,
though;
in
those
spots
where
last
adored, Faint
whispers in
a barrow cold
dark, Or
rustling
hidden
old
forests
thick, The
gleaming
motes in
warm
and sunlit
streams— They
all
understanding
their
loss, For
secret
shibboleths
forgotten
now By
modern
tongues
who’ve
ancient
words. There
fourth
I
feel is
sadder
still; For
our
lives
strive
make,
smudge
smear-ed
ochre
stone, The
scratch
ink-dipped
quill
upon
page, If
are
lost—the
dreams
hopes
paint, The
vibrancy
ecstasy
life— Then
what
left?
world
was
shaped
fit The
art
create,
still
it
stays Until
final
death,
when
with
wind Our
crafts
dissolve
dissipate,
time And
will
smooth
marks
had
made Forgotten
now,
as
if
we’d
never
been. That
frightens
me
most. This
