Quiz: Are You Ready to Be A Brand Photographer?
The Ultimate Personal Brand Session Shot List: 10 must-have images
You're listening to Take It Personally,
a podcast for photographers about
2
:the personal side of business
and the art of standing out.
3
:Here I'll help you build a business
and a brand that is uniquely you.
4
:If you want to attract dream
clients and stop looking at the
5
:competition to decide your next move.
6
:If you are ready to show up as a
confident branding authority to help
7
:you serve your clients and consider
your goals and priorities too.
8
:If you want to make your mark in a
new, underserved niche of photography,
9
:then this is the place for you.
10
:I'm your host Maddie Pachon, South
Dakota brand photographer and educator.
11
:I'm a straight shooting,
Instagram obsessed, and blogger.
12
:Diehard Swifty who has built a multi
six figure business on the back of brand
13
:photography all while raising a family.
14
:And I know you can do the same.
15
:Let's get ready to take it personally.
16
:Wireless Microphone RX-2: This
episode is part of my five-part quiz
17
:series, where I tell you all about.
18
:The different archetypes
of brand photographers.
19
:You can go to Maddie.
20
:Dot com slash quiz.
21
:If you don't know what your archetype
is, you're going to take the quiz.
22
:And then I will tell you which of the four
types you are as a brand photographer.
23
:This episode is all about the dual
positioned brand photographer.
24
:Wireless Microphone RX: The dual
possession photographer is the
25
:second most common, most popular.
26
:Photographer that I work with.
27
:The dual position.
28
:Photographer is a photographer
who is interested in adding brand
29
:photography to their services, but
they are not interested in leaving
30
:weddings or portraits behind.
31
:Sometimes these photographers
will tell me they have no interest
32
:in leaving those things behind.
33
:They still want to offer
family sessions in the fall.
34
:They still want to take a
couple of weddings a year.
35
:Uh, and sometimes photographers
will tell me that they eventually
36
:want to leave those things behind,
but they want to do more of a
37
:slow pivot into brand photography.
38
:And the ladder is the
camp that I fell into.
39
:I very much wanted to only do brand
photography, but I just was apprehensive
40
:to like, let everything else go and
pursue brand photography full on.
41
:So I had a very slow pivot.
42
:I had years where I was.
43
:Still shooting.
44
:Weddings are still shooting families
and just not bringing it into my brand.
45
:So that's one of the first decisions
that you will want to make as
46
:a dual position photographer is
what does your brand look like?
47
:What do you want to be known for?
48
:And sometimes this means that
dual position photographers will
49
:have duplicates of everything.
50
:They'll have multiple Instagram accounts.
51
:They'll have multiple websites.
52
:Sometimes it means that everything
just lives really cohesively under
53
:one account or under one website.
54
:I have seen both work really well,
but you do need to be really, really
55
:clear on what it is that you want.
56
:Wireless Microphone RX-1: In order
to charge four figures for brand
57
:photography in order to have a six
figure brand photography business.
58
:You need to have a personal
brand that makes booking
59
:brand photography really easy.
60
:And that's difficult to do if you're
not clear on your business and on
61
:your goals, it is easier when you
have really crystal clear positioning.
62
:So as a dual position photographer,
there are very specific things that I'm
63
:going to want you to consider so you
can have success with brand photography.
64
:This starts with your positioning
and where you're at online,
65
:your social media, your website.
66
:But it also gets into your
marketing marketing brand.
67
:Photography is different than
marketing, other types of photography,
68
:portraits, and wedding photography.
69
:You are talking to a client who's at a
very different part of the buying journey.
70
:And so how you speak to them in a way
that really educates them about brand
71
:photography and how you can help.
72
:It's a really different process.
73
:So you want to make sure that your
words are cutting through all of that
74
:noise and that they understand that
some of the problems that they're
75
:having in their business are the
things that aren't quite right.
76
:Can be solved by brand photography.
77
:And then lastly, your client
experience is extremely important.
78
:Client experience is always going to be
important with photography, but brand
79
:photography is really unique because
you're working with businesses and brands.
80
:So client experience looks different then
helping mom put together outfits that
81
:look good together for family photos.
82
:Brand photography.
83
:Clients are also different because
they are often repeat clients, but you
84
:need to make sure that your business
is set up in a way where it is inviting
85
:for people to become repeat clients.
86
:A lot of the time we are constantly
looking for the next sale and brand
87
:photography is really exciting because
you don't always have to do that.
88
:A lot of your business can come from
those repeat clients, but that's not going
89
:to happen if you're not strategically
set up for them to come back.
90
:If you're a dual position photographer,
I would love to hear from you.
91
:Dual position photographers are
the second majority of clients
92
:that I work with inside of rebrand.
93
:This is a really common one.
94
:And I do have to say that a
lot of people will come in as
95
:dwell position photographers.
96
:And then by the time we are done working
together, they consider themselves more
97
:exclusive or elite brand photographers,
which we'll talk about in other episodes.
98
:But I do have some clients who
continue to want to pursue.
99
:Doing other types of photography and it's
something that you can absolutely do.
100
:You do not have to burn down your
wedding and portrait business
101
:to add brand photography.
102
:You just have to do it in a strategic way.
