Speaker:

Hey everybody.

2

:

Welcome back to another edition

of the Daily Bible Podcast.

3

:

Hey.

4

:

Hello.

5

:

Welcome back.

6

:

And it's probably appropriate now that

Sunday has passed and the announcement

7

:

has been made and it's outta the bag.

8

:

In fact, it was made in main

service and then the parent meeting.

9

:

Following up, pastor Rod, why

don't you tell us about the

10

:

developments in our student ministry?

11

:

I think our listeners might be

interested to hear about those.

12

:

Again, so if you were at church on

Sunday, this is old hat to you, but we're

13

:

excited to welcome Lewis onto our team.

14

:

He's gonna be taking over as student

director for high school and junior

15

:

high under the ministry that is

currently known as True North.

16

:

And we couldn't be more thrilled.

17

:

We love Lewis.

18

:

We've been able to watch

him from a distance.

19

:

Actually, he's been with us

for many more years in what we.

20

:

Been here.

21

:

Yeah.

22

:

We had ministry experience with him.

23

:

He was in my ministry when

he was in high school.

24

:

He was in your ministry, pastor

pj when he was in college.

25

:

Yep.

26

:

And now we have an opportunity to

see him flex his wings under a new

27

:

ministry under student ministry.

28

:

He's leading that now and

it's really cool to see that.

29

:

One of the things that Lewis is

especially gifted at that I particularly

30

:

love is that it's a skilled je.

31

:

He's a careful thinker and that

comes across in his preaching.

32

:

So even though he's young in his

preaching skills, he's really good at

33

:

drawing observations out and and helping

out with making good conclusions.

34

:

I think he's really good at

that, so I appreciate him.

35

:

I'm glad to have him in the saddle.

36

:

I think he's gonna be a very good

leader in that ministry, helping other

37

:

leaders grow, helping our students grow.

38

:

It's gonna be a new chapter

of the ministry, but I believe

39

:

it's gonna be a good one.

40

:

Yeah.

41

:

Yeah.

42

:

And he's stepping into it

is such an important role.

43

:

Student ministry is

something that you value.

44

:

I value.

45

:

We both got our start in, in

ministry and student ministry and you

46

:

served for quite a long time there.

47

:

And it's just such a

important season and time.

48

:

And we don't believe that our job as the

church is to take on the full mantle of

49

:

discipling the students of the families

in our church, but to come alongside you

50

:

use the terminology co champion, right?

51

:

Along with the parents and pointing

them to Christ and helping them in that.

52

:

And that's why we do it.

53

:

And that's why we think it is

so imperative and so important.

54

:

They're facing a lot of unique things.

55

:

And for me as a senior pastor,

lead pastor, when I get up and

56

:

I preach on Sunday mornings I.

57

:

I'm preaching to a room that is facing

all kinds of different situations and

58

:

while I do my best to try to think

through applicational situations and

59

:

circumstances as I'm up there preaching,

a lot of those are gonna be geared

60

:

towards adults because that's the

primary audience that's in the room.

61

:

And so for our students, we still

want them there on Sunday morning.

62

:

Undoubtedly they should be in church.

63

:

Parents.

64

:

Hear us say that as well.

65

:

You're junior high school student, they

should be in church on Sunday morning.

66

:

It's a good time for them to learn

what that's and what that looks like.

67

:

And to worship there, even if they're

not saved, they should still be there.

68

:

This is a good thing for them.

69

:

But it's also good for them to have

in student ministry, a place where

70

:

they can plug in and connect and get

to know what their students and hear

71

:

messages that are more geared and

tailored towards what they're facing

72

:

on a weekly basis in student ministry,

in school, and things like that.

73

:

Absolutely the targeted teaching

makes it worth it all by itself.

74

:

But indeed, we are co championing

the discipleship of your child.

75

:

And so we believe that we play

a significant role, not in

76

:

any way diminishing your role.

77

:

You are the primary disciple.

78

:

We would affirm that.

79

:

But if you're saying is it 60, 40, 30, 70?

80

:

What's the number?

81

:

And I don't know if that's helpful.

82

:

It's more helpful to say, we co

champion the discipleship of your child.

83

:

We are partnering with you to

help accomplish that, and you're

84

:

partnering with us to help

accomplish that on the other side.

85

:

We are excited for this.

86

:

Lewis is on board.

87

:

He's excited to do it.

88

:

Shea's excited too.

89

:

And funny enough, Shaa was also

in a ministry also part of yours.

90

:

Yep.

91

:

So these are people that we've invested in

throughout the years and it's really sweet

92

:

to have a time of harvesting some of that

investment, although not fully, of course.

93

:

We expect Lewis and Shaa to

continue growing and making

94

:

great inroads into ministry.

95

:

A hundred percent we do.

96

:

Yeah.

97

:

Yeah.

98

:

Maybe this would be a good time.

99

:

To touch on revival.

100

:

I know it's coming up here in about

a month and a half, two months now.

101

:

That's right.

102

:

And so what do we, what do

our parents need to know?

103

:

Parents of teens out there that are

listening, students that listen to this

104

:

podcast, give us a plug for revival.

105

:

So revival, in case you're unfamiliar

with the terminology, is just a name

106

:

that we use to brand our summer camp.

107

:

So anytime you hear us talk about revival,

most of the time we're talking about

108

:

our summer camp revival, winter edition.

109

:

Is as a name suggest our winter

camp, our winter retreat.

110

:

So revival this year is gonna be at Latham

Springs, and that's about, I don't know,

111

:

two and a half hours south of us here.

112

:

It's in this huge facility.

113

:

Lots of ground, lots of events

or in activities for them to do.

114

:

There's competitive games.

115

:

There's gonna be preaching and teaching

in part by Pastor Evan from compass,

116

:

Albert Church Hill Country, which is in

New Braunfels and also Lewis this year.

117

:

So it's gonna be a

really, it's a new year.

118

:

It's gonna be a really fun year.

119

:

It's gonna be lots of new things.

120

:

We've never been to this place before.

121

:

When I scouted it a few months ago,

probably six or eight months ago at this

122

:

point, with Pastor Evan from Hill Country.

123

:

We thought it had a lot of potential,

and in fact, if you wanna go to

124

:

the website and see some of the

things that they offer, there's

125

:

some really cool photos there.

126

:

There's a great aerial

view of the whole camp.

127

:

It's huge.

128

:

Lots of things to do.

129

:

We think your kids are gonna love

it, but what they're gonna love

130

:

most we trust is gonna be the

fact that they're gonna have some.

131

:

Great time in the word.

132

:

Great time in small groups discussing

and implementing what they're hearing.

133

:

And this year the theme is holy.

134

:

We're looking at the holiness of God

and its implications for mankind.

135

:

And of course there are legion

applications for us about what it

136

:

means that God is holy and I can't

wait for your students to get involved.

137

:

Yeah.

138

:

That's awesome.

139

:

That's awesome.

140

:

Let's jump into our daily

Bible reading for today.

141

:

Proverbs 1920 and 21.

142

:

I think we've got this,

we've got tomorrow.

143

:

And then are we outta

Proverbs for a minute?

144

:

Or maybe we've got a couple more.

145

:

Anyways, to your point, last yesterday's

episode, we've got this for a little while

146

:

longer and then we're gonna jump back

and I think to, to Chronicles and Kings

147

:

and then we'll come back book wrap up in

Proverbs, and then we go to Ecclesiastes.

148

:

Yeah.

149

:

Yep.

150

:

Ecclesiastes is such a good book, man.

151

:

Yeah.

152

:

And then we go back to Kings and

then we go to finish Proverbs.

153

:

Yeah.

154

:

It's a little bit of inter

intertwining from here on out.

155

:

I remember from this one just still being

in the Old Testament as we're rounding

156

:

the corner into the fall going that

we're not gonna finish the New Testament.

157

:

There's no way we're gonna get through.

158

:

It feels like it.

159

:

It does.

160

:

Sometimes it does.

161

:

Hey, Proverbs 19.

162

:

How about verse two?

163

:

Desire without knowledge is not good.

164

:

And whoever makes haste with

his feet misses his way.

165

:

What this.

166

:

Struck me as this time around is we

need to be suspicious of our desires.

167

:

That, that initial desire that

we have, that initial desire

168

:

to say, I wanna go do this.

169

:

I let's go do this.

170

:

This is encouraging us to, to stop

and to give thought to it, and to

171

:

think about, okay, what's our motive?

172

:

What's the reason behind this?

173

:

Is this really the best use of

our resources our funds, our

174

:

time, and so forth and so on.

175

:

Now, you could pro.

176

:

Have paralysis by analysis.

177

:

If you apply this across the board

okay, do I want to get up and

178

:

go get a sip of water right now?

179

:

What's my motive in

getting a sip of water?

180

:

But really just thinking about

your big picture, your ambitions,

181

:

your dreams, why do you have those?

182

:

What are those?

183

:

What's the knowledge undergirding

those that's leading you to make these

184

:

conclusions and to do these things?

185

:

Because if you run hastily into to

something that you're thinking, this

186

:

is what we need to do, and you make

big decisions without thinking about

187

:

it, then you can end up in a bad spot.

188

:

I would say.

189

:

Man, moving somewhere without

consideration where you're gonna

190

:

go to church moving away from

the church, leaving a church,

191

:

leaving your community group.

192

:

These are all big ticket

items that I would say.

193

:

You need to be really careful, really

slow about making that decision

194

:

before you pull the trigger on that.

195

:

Amen to that.

196

:

Verse 14.

197

:

I love this house and wealth are inherited

from fathers, at least in under normal

198

:

circumstances, but a prudent wife.

199

:

That's from the Lord, the gift of a wife,

a good wife, a prudent wife here, a wise

200

:

wife, we might say is from the Lord.

201

:

Husbands.

202

:

Have you got that?

203

:

Say amen.

204

:

Give your wife a kiss and let her

know that you are thankful for her

205

:

because she is a gift of the Lord.

206

:

Yeah.

207

:

Yeah.

208

:

You mentioned whenever something is

repeated we need to pay attention to it.

209

:

And there's a verse that's repeated almost

word for word twice that's right in here,

210

:

and that's verse five and verse nine.

211

:

A false witness will not go unpunished.

212

:

And he who breathe out

lies will not escape.

213

:

That's verse five.

214

:

He who breathes out lies

will perish in verse nine.

215

:

So it's pretty much a word for

word concept there, but that's

216

:

just a reminder of the fact that

we need to be people of truth.

217

:

And when we're given a platform to

bear witness to what has happened, we

218

:

need to be p men and women of truth.

219

:

We need to give witness to the

factual events of what took place.

220

:

Because if we don't, then we're

putting our way in ourselves,

221

:

in the way of God's wrath.

222

:

And that's not a place

that anybody wants to be.

223

:

Yeah.

224

:

And again, our words are so frivolous

and carelessly deployed these

225

:

days that it requires us to be.

226

:

Intentional and thoughtful

and even carefully considered

227

:

before we send our words out.

228

:

Sometimes we can accidentally lie or

even just mislead people by our words.

229

:

We shade them in a certain way.

230

:

We use certain adjectives

or nouns or pronouns.

231

:

We can hide the, our, the intentions

of our heart by just being really

232

:

careful with their language.

233

:

And that's not what I'm suggesting.

234

:

What I am suggesting though, is that we

be people who are forthright, honest.

235

:

Let your yes be yes.

236

:

And your no be no mean what

you say and say what you mean.

237

:

Politic politically maneuvering

your words with people is I get it.

238

:

There's times to be gentle and to

be diplomatic in how you deliver

239

:

something, especially if it has a

tendency to be hurtful to somebody or

240

:

trying to deliver criticism or you're

trying to help them see something

241

:

that maybe they haven't seen before.

242

:

I get that, and I'm not suggesting

that you should be cruel or

243

:

harsh in their delivery, but we

should be people who are honest.

244

:

Forthrightness is one of those

things that I feel like people

245

:

just don't appreciate today.

246

:

We don't do that.

247

:

We hide things with words or

we just try to, we say things

248

:

and there's a wink and a nod.

249

:

What do you get what

I'm trying to say here?

250

:

No we need to be people who are just.

251

:

Plain speakers.

252

:

We say what we mean what we

say, and we try our best to

253

:

communicate it in a loving way.

254

:

I think that's a really helpful

posture for Christians who are wise.

255

:

Yeah, for sure.

256

:

Verse 23, the fear of the Lord.

257

:

We talked about this yesterday

in the sermon a little bit

258

:

in our first point there, I.

259

:

Just to come back to that subject I

think the fear of the Lord is something

260

:

that we can so easily misunderstand

as Christians, and even to try to cap

261

:

capture the idea in one sermon point or

even just in one full sermon is a lot.

262

:

But just to clarify again, we are not

fearing condemnation and judgment.

263

:

That is the fear that one

John four eight says that I.

264

:

That we have been freed from

for, I think it's for it.

265

:

That, that we've been delivered from

that perfect love casts out that fear.

266

:

We're not fearing God the

way that the unbeliever does.

267

:

We're not fearing that God is

gonna zap, fry us for our sin.

268

:

We're not fearing God in

the way that we're feeling.

269

:

Condemnation and judgment and shame,

carrying our guilt and shame and sin

270

:

around with us for our whole lives,

rather, we're fearing God in the way that.

271

:

I used the illustration

yesterday in a sermon.

272

:

You you've got, let's take a gun.

273

:

You can look at a gun and say,

okay, that gun can be used for

274

:

a lot of really good things.

275

:

It can be self-defense, it

can provide food, it can do

276

:

all kinds of things like that.

277

:

And yet that gun can also be used

to inflict much harm and damage.

278

:

And so you're gonna approach that

gun in a way that is gonna be.

279

:

Reverential, you're gonna have

a reverence for the potential

280

:

damage that gun could inflict.

281

:

And yet you're still gonna

approach it and use it the way

282

:

that it was intended to be used.

283

:

And when you do that and approach it

the way you should, it's a good thing.

284

:

And that's our relationship with God.

285

:

When we approach God, understanding

that he is good and he's holy and

286

:

he's kind, and he's compassionate,

but he's also a God of power and

287

:

wrath and justice, then it's a good

thing for us to approach him that way.

288

:

And that's gonna impact the

way that we live our lives.

289

:

And the fear of the Lord.

290

:

Verse 23 leads to life.

291

:

It leads to a good thing.

292

:

If you approach the Lord in the

right way, man, it's gonna be a

293

:

good life that you're gonna live.

294

:

And whoever has it rests satisfied and

won't be visited by harm ultimately that's

295

:

a, that's an eschatological promise.

296

:

You are gonna be satisfied for

eternity and you are gonna be

297

:

delivered from harm eternally.

298

:

But even now, if you, generally speaking,

the principle is if you conduct yourself.

299

:

With the fear of the Lord, you're

gonna live a life that's gonna put you

300

:

in the way of blessing much more than

it's gonna put you in the way of harm.

301

:

Amen.

302

:

Verse 27, if I can comment on this

really quickly here, cease to hear

303

:

instruction, my son and you will

stray from the words of knowledge.

304

:

Yeah.

305

:

I think that speaks to the fact that

we have to humbly and repeatedly hear

306

:

the words that we've heard before.

307

:

This is one of the reasons why we

attend preaching every Sunday or

308

:

whatever the frequency is for you.

309

:

You go to a midweek service perhaps

or something at Sunday night.

310

:

We need to hear the same

things over and over again.

311

:

Because we need to be open to

instruction because often A, we forget

312

:

and two, even though we've heard it,

it doesn't mean that we're applying it.

313

:

If we're honest with ourselves, we

need to repeatedly be exposed to

314

:

arguments from scripture to have our

hearts worn down, shaped, and even

315

:

convinced that's the right way to go.

316

:

And so Solomon wisely encourages his son.

317

:

Don't be the kind of person

who closes your ears as though,

318

:

oh, I know this already.

319

:

I've heard this sermon already.

320

:

Oh I already know where the

pastor's gonna go with this.

321

:

Even if it isn't pastoring or preaching,

rather if it's something else, you never

322

:

are gonna learn all that you should learn.

323

:

And especially when it comes to scripture

and especially when it comes to God,

324

:

there is an infinite fountain there that

you will never drink the completion of.

325

:

Therefore stay at it.

326

:

Cease to hear instruction, my son and you

will stray from the words of knowledge.

327

:

Chapter 20.

328

:

Then let's deal with verse one.

329

:

In fact, you talked about this on

Saturday at our men's Bible study as well.

330

:

Wine is a mocker strong drink,

a brawler, and whoever's led

331

:

astray by it is not wise.

332

:

Pierre, why don't you give us a kind

of a synopsis, brief snapshot of that

333

:

first point that you talked about,

because the qualification for the

334

:

Godly man is not to be a drunkard, but

we talked about the fact that doesn't

335

:

mean that you can't have any alcohol.

336

:

So some thoughts on that.

337

:

Concept.

338

:

Yeah, briefly.

339

:

The prohibition for the leader, the godly

leader, AKA, also the pastor and the elder

340

:

is to not be someone who is a drunkard.

341

:

He can't be qualified or

characterized by that.

342

:

Someone should be able to look at

his life and say, that's not true of

343

:

that guy, and it's gonna be evident.

344

:

Paul doesn't give commands that he's

expecting someone to have heart access.

345

:

None of us do.

346

:

He's expecting to look at

the man's life and say, I.

347

:

Can tell based on the

obvious watching of his life.

348

:

He's not a drunker.

349

:

That's what scripture calls us to.

350

:

However, scripture does

say you can enjoy wine.

351

:

He tells Timothy in one Timothy five,

take a little wine for your stomach.

352

:

You're not feeling well.

353

:

Hey, don't just drink water.

354

:

Drink some wine that's gonna help

with, the fermentation or the alcohol

355

:

killing off some of the bad bugs.

356

:

Who knows what he has in

mind, but he does let him say.

357

:

He does let him have

alcohol in the first place.

358

:

The challenge then is to say,

okay, if God is okay with us

359

:

having it, how much can we have?

360

:

And the line he says is drunkenness.

361

:

Some people are gonna draw the

line for drunkenness of slurring

362

:

speech and staggering steps, but

I think the line is actually at

363

:

the point where you get buzzed.

364

:

I think that would be, and my

best understanding of God's

365

:

intention is what he's prohibiting.

366

:

That we should not allow ourselves to

be inebriated by the drink such that

367

:

it controls us and therefore in verse.

368

:

One here, wine is a mock or strong

drink is a baller, a brawler.

369

:

Whoever is led astray

by these is not wise.

370

:

You're not wise because you're allowing

these things to steal your attention

371

:

and your energy such that you're no

longer in control of your faculties.

372

:

And that's exactly what

God is prohibiting.

373

:

Yeah, a hundred percent.

374

:

In fact you said the, one of the things

about getting buzzed that I thought

375

:

was helpful is you said you can't act

or react with sober mindedness, right?

376

:

Because you're.

377

:

You're inebriated to a certain

degree at least on that.

378

:

And maybe you're not gonna blow over

the legal limit on the breathalyzer

379

:

test, but you're still out of your

faculties to be able to respond, to

380

:

act, and react as you put it in a way

that is sober minded to honor the Lord.

381

:

I.

382

:

Yeah.

383

:

H how about verse seven?

384

:

Verse seven jumped out to me because it,

it says this, it says, your righteous

385

:

living is not just for you, but it's also

for your children that you, when you walk

386

:

in integrity, when you live a righteous

life, blessed are your children after you.

387

:

The Bible talks about visiting the sins

of the fathers on future generations of

388

:

children, and here's kinda the opposite.

389

:

It's Hey, if you live a life of integrity

and you set that example for your kids,

390

:

that's gonna be a blessing to them.

391

:

They're gonna be able to look

at a mom or a dad who lived

392

:

a faithful life of godliness.

393

:

And that's going to turn out well for

them because hopefully the idea is

394

:

that train up a child in the way he's

gonna go, which we're gonna get to

395

:

also and he will not depart from it.

396

:

If they're seeing you live that

faithful life, that's gonna be a

397

:

blessing to them in the long term.

398

:

Amen.

399

:

I just think about the way that

it happens when someone dies.

400

:

You end up getting access into their

life access into parts that you may not

401

:

see otherwise because they're a private

person or it's on their computer or it's

402

:

on their bookshelf or what have you.

403

:

There's something so good and so sweet

when you see into the secret places of

404

:

a person's life and you realize they're

exactly who you thought they were.

405

:

Yeah.

406

:

That is such a special gift that you can

give your family, and that just means

407

:

our job, men and women, is to be the

kind of people that live what we say.

408

:

We mean what we say.

409

:

We say what we mean.

410

:

We live with integrity, he says here,

whoever walks in integrity, right?

411

:

It's the righteous who walks, not

just the one who talks about it.

412

:

It's easy to say, you should do this.

413

:

We should live that way.

414

:

It's a whole other to live a life through

and through that conveys the kind of

415

:

integrity that God can be pleased with.

416

:

And of course, we'll bless your children.

417

:

There's so many numerous blessings, but

not the least of which when your kids get

418

:

to look in your life and disperse your.

419

:

Your belongings.

420

:

Let them find things that give testimony

to the fact that you were faithful.

421

:

Yeah.

422

:

Verse 13, there is such a

thing as too much sleep.

423

:

Believe it or not, even though it doesn't

feel like it when you're sleeping.

424

:

There is such a thing as too much sleep.

425

:

Love, not sleep.

426

:

Lest you come to poverty, open your

eyes and you will have plenty of bread.

427

:

How much sleep is too much?

428

:

Yeah, it that's a, I thus says the Lord.

429

:

I don't know.

430

:

Yeah.

431

:

No but it is speaking to Slothfulness,

it's speaking to those things and

432

:

there's wisdom in getting rest.

433

:

This is not about going, Hey, if

you're not waking up at 5:00 AM every

434

:

day, then you're not doing it right.

435

:

There's wisdom to get rest and

get the rest that your body needs.

436

:

And everybody's different on that.

437

:

Yeah.

438

:

Molar operates on three hours of sleep at

night, which I don't know is healthy, but.

439

:

He does it.

440

:

Don't think he does.

441

:

Yeah.

442

:

He figures out how to do it.

443

:

And there's science behind it.

444

:

I know you've read quite a bit

on this subject and thought a

445

:

lot about how to get consistent

sleep and everything else, but I.

446

:

It's in the proverbs it's a good

thing for us to, to sleep well and

447

:

not sleep in a way that we idolize

it in such that it slows us down

448

:

in our pursuit of pro productivity.

449

:

Scriptures does say that he

gives to his beloved rest.

450

:

Yeah.

451

:

He gives to his beloved rest.

452

:

So that's, it's a gift of

God to sleep at Psalm 1 27.

453

:

It's in vain that you rise

up early and go late to rest.

454

:

He gives to his beloved rest.

455

:

Sleep is what the word is.

456

:

I think there.

457

:

So there is clearly a sense in which

this just goes back to the alcohol.

458

:

God gives it as a gift.

459

:

Yeah, it's a good gift that should be

enjoyed, but it should not be overjoyed.

460

:

The poison is in the dose, as some

people often say, and it's incumbent

461

:

upon Christians to be especially

aware of these pernicious sins

462

:

because they can sneak up on us.

463

:

We don't realize we're being slothful and

lazy, but the scripture gives us space

464

:

to say, you ought to think about this.

465

:

You ought to be sober minded enough

to be watchful over your life, to

466

:

not sleep so little that you're not

stewarding your body and not to sleep

467

:

so much that you're being lazy and

you're not stewarding your work well.

468

:

There are hazards on either side

and I think that's the point here.

469

:

Yeah.

470

:

And probably building on that, I.

471

:

As well.

472

:

Same theme, chapter 21, verse 17.

473

:

Then whoever loves pleasure will

be a poor man and he who loves

474

:

wine and oil will not be rich.

475

:

Pleasure is another thing.

476

:

Is it wrong to have pleasure in our life?

477

:

No, it's not wrong to have

pleasure in your life.

478

:

It's not wrong to have

leisure in your life.

479

:

It's not wrong to have things that you

enjoy doing or hobby that you enjoy doing.

480

:

But again, it's gotta be in moderation.

481

:

We've gotta approach it the right

way and make sure that it doesn't

482

:

become something that is enslaving

to us or something that distracts us,

483

:

or something that wastes our time.

484

:

We're really good at wasting time.

485

:

It's not hard for us to sit down and three

hours later get up from the couch and be

486

:

like, I did nothing other than like some

Instagram reels during that three hours.

487

:

We gotta be careful about how we are

redeeming the time that God has given us.

488

:

And and use it well and enjoy the things.

489

:

Enjoy the sleep.

490

:

Enjoy the wine.

491

:

If you drink wine or a beer from

time to time and then enjoy pleasure,

492

:

but don't be mastered by any of it.

493

:

And take them as they're meant to

be, which are blessings from the Lord

494

:

to be respites here and there rather

than something that you live for.

495

:

Amen to that.

496

:

Verse two, actually, verse one and two.

497

:

Let me just do verse one.

498

:

King's heart is a stream of

water in the hand of the Lord.

499

:

He turns it wherever he will.

500

:

I love this because it tells me that.

501

:

P President Trump is not in control

totally at the end of the day, or Elon.

502

:

Elon is not in control,

and especially when they're

503

:

fighting, they're not in control.

504

:

At least in the ultimate sense,

God is the one who's directing

505

:

the affairs of mankind, even

if it doesn't appear that way.

506

:

And at the same time, God's

doing so without sin or flaw.

507

:

He's not participating in evil.

508

:

He's not contributing to evil

as though he were the direct.

509

:

Participant, but he is turning the

hearts of man wherever he will.

510

:

So are you having an issue with your boss?

511

:

Are you having an issue with your spouse?

512

:

Man, pray to the Lord

about that spouse's heart.

513

:

The Lord can easily sway their heart

in the direction that is most fitting

514

:

and suitable according to scripture.

515

:

Verse two, every way of man is right

in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs

516

:

the heart, which tells me simply that.

517

:

Act.

518

:

The act that you commit is important,

but also on top of that, the Lord

519

:

is also weighing your motivation.

520

:

He cares about both.

521

:

Yeah.

522

:

Look at verse 25.

523

:

The desire of the slugger

kills him for his hands.

524

:

Refuse to labor.

525

:

I think the thing that stood out to

me this time reading this is that.

526

:

The difference between the sluggard

and the disciplined person is not the

527

:

desire, but it's the follow through.

528

:

The sluggard can have all the greatest

desires, can have the desire to, to climb

529

:

the corporate ladder, can have the desire

to have the GIC family, can have the

530

:

desire to, to to work hard, can have the

desire to have the house, whatever it is.

531

:

The difference is, are you willing

to put in the work ethic to get.

532

:

From the desire to the reality of that.

533

:

And that's the difference between

the sluggard and the person that

534

:

is enjoying the fruits of their

labor is doing the hard work.

535

:

The desire.

536

:

Both are gonna have, it's the

results of the desire is what

537

:

you're gonna do with that desire.

538

:

That's what differentiates.

539

:

Amen.

540

:

Can I just end with the last verse here?

541

:

Totally.

542

:

In chapter 21 verse 31.

543

:

The horse is made ready

for the day of battle.

544

:

But the victory belongs to the Lord.

545

:

Now, I think that's a great way for us

to end, because what it suggests to us is

546

:

that we should make the horse ready, feed

the horse, exercise the horse, get all the

547

:

things in place get yourself battle ready.

548

:

But at the end of the day,

you're not trusting the horse.

549

:

Some trust in chariots and

some in horses, but we trust in

550

:

the name of the Lord our God.

551

:

Or you gonna sing it?

552

:

I will.

553

:

I saw.

554

:

Alright, let's try it again.

555

:

Some trusts in chariots

and some in horses.

556

:

I'm not gonna sing it.

557

:

Oh, we trust the Lord again.

558

:

Yeah.

559

:

Alright all this to say it's such a

good thing for us to prepare, put, sock

560

:

away money in your savings account.

561

:

Set, set a contingency fund for yourself.

562

:

Get the spare tire and

keep it in the trunk.

563

:

Do all the things that you should do,

but don't put your trust in those things.

564

:

Put your trust in the Lord.

565

:

And how are you gonna

know if they do that?

566

:

How will you know if someone's

trusting in the Lord?

567

:

Has your pja give us a few

indications if you on the spot here?

568

:

Yeah.

569

:

I, this whole thing's on the spot.

570

:

What do you think we're doing?

571

:

Totally.

572

:

We don't prep for this at all.

573

:

I think when you see somebody who's even

keeled, when you see somebody who responds

574

:

to difficulty in a way that their life

is not turned upside down, that's an

575

:

indication they're trusting in the Lord.

576

:

I think when you see somebody who is

quick to give glory to God when things

577

:

go their way, I think that's an example

that they're trusting in the Lord.

578

:

Amen.

579

:

When you see somebody who faces

discouragement by turning to him

580

:

and praying to him and pleading

with him, I think you see somebody

581

:

who's trusting in the Lord.

582

:

That's right.

583

:

Yeah.

584

:

Yeah.

585

:

Amen.

586

:

Pray it up, folks.

587

:

Yeah.

588

:

Let's just do let's do just that

and we will wrap up this episode.

589

:

God, we are thankful for these

nuggets that we get to pull

590

:

outta the book of Proverbs and

and we wanna be a wise people.

591

:

We wanna be a people that does

make the horse ready for battle,

592

:

but trust ultimately in you.

593

:

And so help us to do that.

594

:

And help us to live lives of godliness and

righteousness as a legacy for our family.

595

:

God we want to enjoy the good

gifts that you've given us and

596

:

not be mastered by any of them.

597

:

As we were talking about in this.

598

:

We want to have our desires and

then pursue those desires in

599

:

a way that's godly and right.

600

:

And Lord, help us to live.

601

:

Wisely, I guess is just my request in this

is, which is a big prayer request as we

602

:

think about the world in which we live.

603

:

'cause there's so much that wants to

pull us into the path of foolishness

604

:

rather than in walking with the wise.

605

:

And so help us to be a church

characterized by wisdom, by giving

606

:

ourselves over to your word.

607

:

We pray in Jesus name.

608

:

Amen.

609

:

Amen.
