Linda Orsini:Welcome back to a call for love. Today I would like to share with you my guest Karina Budhrani, and she's the founder of I'm hair for you always. And you heard that right hair instead of here. So H A IR, because she launched her new hair care brand with the mission to support and inspire women, particularly those navigating through life's challenges and transitions. So Karina, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, I know that you have struggled with thinning hair due to alopecia. And I never heard of it. I mean, I know it is a phenomenon in our world, but I have never heard of it. And I know you support a community of women who recognize that hair is more than just strands. It symbolizes not only confidence, but your identity, your personal growth, which are part of our integral healing journey. So can you just share us a little bit more about alopecia.
Karina Budhrani:So there are several different types of alopecia and the one that I'm struggling with in particular, is called telogen effluvium, which is really caused by a lot of stress to the body. So in 2020, what happened was, while we all were facing the pandemic, which was hard times for everybody, it used to be in the fitness industry, so gyms, everything closed down, you know, it wasn't that active. And I kind of came to this realization that I was in an abusive, toxic marriage. So my whole world came crashing down, I became a single mother pretty much overnight, family is on the other side of the world, I kind of hit rock bottom. And with all the stress didn't eat that well didn't sleep. So it really started to seeing a lot of hair fall and shedding. And then I really started to kind of look for solutions out there. But every solution I was presented was extremely expensive. And very invasive, nothing was natural. I was told to take medications and go for laser treatments and PRP. So that's kind of how this all started. And to circle back, yes, so there's different types of alopecia, I would always suggest someone to go to a trichology cyst, which is like a dermatologist but specialty for the scalp and hair to find out what they're dealing with, specifically, because you can take blood test to know if you know what's the trigger for hair loss, some people might get it after they've experienced COVID. And this happened to me too, while I was in my healing journey, I got COVID So then I noticed again, my hair sort of falling to get more stricter with my hair routine to kind of grow all the hairs back. But yeah, I would recommend for people to find out what specific type of hair loss they might be dealing with. And the oil that I have really can help you regrow that
Linda Orsini:hair. So this brings me to the point that I think they're what you're saying is that you went through a traumatic experience through you know, separation, leaving a relationship being a single parent, and that was the catalyst for your hair loss.
Karina Budhrani:Yeah, 100% like everything, like nutrition and everything, but the hair was the most kind of obvious one. And what made me really notice it or give it more attention was I went on a date once with this guy, and he's like, Wow, your hair is really thin. And then that kind of took me by shock because I knew it was thin but I didn't think it was that like obvious So that kind of got me thinking of while I was feeling a little self conscious because my hair was thin and I didn't want it to be thin. So it's trying to How can I fix this? And what is the problem? How do I solve this?
Linda Orsini:That's so interesting, because you know, knowing you now, I would have never thought I mean, you have such luscious, gorgeous hair. So it's really very surprising to me. But it's funny you say that, because when I got separated, I actually started turning gray. I didn't lose my hair. But I did start getting gray hair, which is not something that you want. However, it has stabilized now, in any case, I received your beautiful box of, I'm here for you always. And it's stunning, and it's gorgeous. I'd like you to share with us, you've already shared your journey. But what you did to create your own sustainable product in order to compensate or negate expensive invasive treatments. Well,
Karina Budhrani:it took me a couple of years of research. And I learned about hair oils, specifically rosemary oil, which has properties to help you regrow your hair. So I decided to kind of formulate this with a chemist I knew exactly the type of ingredients I wanted, because it not only helps with regrowing your hair. So anyone who just wants to maintain a healthy scalp has maybe itching dandruff, all these products combined are going to help you achieve your best hair possible. So our main product is the rosemary and Allah, scalp and hair strengthening oil. And then we have a variety of different accessories which are all going to help together in your hair growth journey.
Linda Orsini:Interesting because I see big oil, which I have not yet tried, but it smells really decadent. Just because it looks rich and very, I love oils. And I think people are afraid of oils, especially on the scalp. But I know I put oil on my skin. And I love it in my hair and for the scalp I imagine especially with the rosemary and Alma is very, very healing but you also have this, this brush. What is this, so that's
Karina Budhrani:a scalp brush. There's a couple different ways you can use it, you can use it in the shower. So when you have shampoo on your hair, you place it on your scalp in a circular motion, you can massage it helps distribute the shampoo, so you get a cleaner scalp helps with circulation as well. You can also use a dry so when you're putting the oil on your scalp you massage and with your fingers and then you can use the scalp brush to massage that as well. So getting a good head massage helps with stimulation, which again will help hair growth.
Linda Orsini:So what are the procedures you first put on oil is it unclean, dry
Karina Budhrani:or wet. Before you wash your hair, you would put the oil and I recommend using it two to three times a week 30 minutes to up to four hours before I really recommend leaving it for the four hours. So maybe for those moms coming home after school you pick up the kids go straight all your hair. And once the oil is on your scalp, you can use a scalp brush to massage it in. And then I would just use a claw clip, put it away for about four hours. And then you wash condition as regular then you would use our microfiber hair towel because this absorbs a lot of the water which means less time to use a hairdryer. So you're saving your hair from any breakage it helps control frizziness as well. So when your hair is eventually all dry, we also have silk pillowcases. So you're gonna get great sleep, it improves the quality of your sleep, it regulates temperature, helps with hydration for your hair, as well as skin so wrinkles, you're gonna see less wrinkles in your face as well. We also have 100% silk scrunchies we have a couple of different size so depending on your current level of thickness for your hair, you can check the website for that. So it all works together to kind of just help you get better healthy scalp and hair. And a lot of people don't really realize scalp care is skincare. Everyone spends so much money looking after their skin. They do facials and night creams and toners and all that and you're the face the skin on your face actually goes all the way so it is your scalp and people neglect their scalp. Getting a balanced scalp will help you with your hair growth because there's often like clogged pores, even sometimes putting sunscreen on your scalp everyone would forget that so when you're going to the beach I recommend putting a little bit sunscreen on your scalp as well help was protected.
Linda Orsini:Yeah, actually, as a sigh, I know that sometimes I would get a burn where my park is on my scalp. And you don't want to do that. Yeah, so there's
Karina Budhrani:lots of different things you can do to just take care of your scalp. Because everyone really takes care of their face and our bodies and everyone wants to long luscious hair. And think it's just hair, but your hair is all dead. It's the scalp, you have to take care of.
Linda Orsini:Wow, that is really interesting. I have to say I fall into that I take care of my, my skin, my body and I have really not pay too much, or enough attention to my sculpt. So this is really great. I do feel that the sculpt your hair is so important. My mum always used to say that her hair framed her face. And she said she had 11 children. So she was very busy. But she always made sure her hair looked great. And I think she comes from that old adage of making sure your hair looks great before you go out. And we can help it. Now with all the air pollutants and all the chemicals and the shampoos and stress in our lives. It only makes sense that it could come out through the follicles of our hair and losing our hair turning gray, all those factors.
Karina Budhrani:Yeah, there's, you know, life has been hard, I'd say for everybody for the last couple of years, and everyone deals with it different is different. Linda Orsini:them. I have a question for you. Is this for hair that you have lost because of stress or life circumstances even pre menopause or menopause? Or is this something that let's say for instance, somebody who's going bald.
Karina Budhrani:So there's again, very different types of hair loss. So I would always first recommend seeing a psychologist to get like a proper diagnosis. Because if it is caused by genetics or old age, this can help you grow your hair. But there's a lot of factors, you have to make sure you do a blood test, make sure everything looks good, are you eating the correct types of food. So that's another thing I really promote on my social media is what foods you should eat. Because when I was doing my research a long time ago, all I saw was have Biotin Biotin Biotin, that was like the thing that you need it for your hair, there's actually so much more example protein, you have to eat almost three times of what you normally eat, like of protein to have your hair grow. And that's something I didn't know. So I provide these nutrition tips as well. So it's more of like a holistic experience. On my social media, you get this parts of nutrition, I want to encourage people on self care, so maybe breathing exercises, or maybe yoga and motivational messages. So it is the hair products as well. But we want to encourage everyone to you know, do everything possible that they can to get that control back to feel good again.
Linda Orsini:Is this not fascinating? I'm listening to you. And I'm thinking, wow, look at what happened to you. And look at the journey it has brought you on. That is so crazy. That's like a call for love. Like you took a really hard thing in your life, something that was causing you, even in self lack of self confidence and everything to do but you're and you empowered yourself to create this, this oil. And now you're into all I've seen your social media, it's fantastic. All the knowledge that you've learned. Wow. You know, you really found the gift in the crisis.
Karina Budhrani:Yeah, thank you. I mean, we met last year I did your course on stress and anxiety. And I feel if you remember how I wasn't the beginning of the course. Like I'm always kind of changing and evolving. I mean, there's this imposter syndrome, which is like, Nope, you can't do it. Don't do it. You're dreaming because I'm still in my healing process from leaving a narcissist where there was years of gaslighting, and unfortunately like you still in my life because we have kids together. So it's still going on the shift, the blaming, you know, shift blame, lies and all the stuff that comes with dealing with the unknown narcissists, I even had, like PTSD, where I had sleep paralysis at night. So I'd wake up thinking, I'm screaming, my mouth is open, like I'm screaming, but no sound was coming. It's been a roller coaster over the last couple of years. But there was something always inside me kind of pushing that like, No, I know I have it in me to be that like boss babe that I've always wanted to be and do better. And it's just a matter of like putting in the work. So, therapy, some yoga courses, taking into my own hands. So even 2020 locked down when I couldn't work again, because I was in the fitness industry decided, let's go back to school. So I'm back to school. For a year, even though I had three scream, screaming kids at home that couldn't go to school, just so I'd encourage all the women out there, like once you hit rock bottom, that just means better things are gonna come and it's time to evolve. So let that self doubt go away. And just work really hard until you get where you want to be. And then go harder.
Linda Orsini:Oh, my goodness, honestly, I almost have tears in my eyes. Because I've seen you, as you said, a year when you join my stress and anxiety course. Wow, have you really stood in your power, like you really embrace your power. Because you of course, you were already on the journey. But now with the launch. And this just launched, I believe May fifth 2023. Right. So this is just hot off the shelf. And I'm so impressed. I love how you've really taken charge of your life, empowered yourself. And now you're in service of others. And once again, that's what a call for love is finding the self love, and then shining it outward. Because if you just keep it to yourself, then that really is not the message. So you're taking what you've learned. And you're really offering it to other people and show him what you can do. From point A to point B to empower yourself and also create a new business. It's very impressive.
Karina Budhrani:Yeah, thank you. Yeah, definitely. My goal is really to help women, especially I guess I have a soft spot for single mothers or ladies, they're in the middle of divorce and feel like they have nowhere to go. And, you know, they're just about to give up. Because life's so hard. It's just like, No, no, no, like, give me a chance. Let's kind of work together and see where we can take you. That's the goal. So beautiful.
Linda Orsini:I love this message. Do you have any recommendations for women who are going through this, how they can really reach out to you and first steps and how do they notice all the the beginning stages,
Karina Budhrani:I guess you would notice just by the regular like thinning of hair. If you're using your fingers or comb and you park your hair, you see a little bit more scalp. Or just when you're washing your hair, it seems there's always going to be a little bit of hair fall when you're washing your hair that's natural for hair cycle. So everybody has hair fall when they're washing it. But when you notice it's a little bit excessive, or when you're putting your hair to tie a ponytail, and it's very thin. And you're not too sure you can always reach out to me and we can have a chat to see you know what we can what I can do to help you try to figure out what maybe what type of alopecia you have. Or again recommend going to a try ecologist, they're just specialists with scalp they have this special like microscope, they can actually zoom into your scalp and see Anna from each follicle how many hairs are growing out. Because depending on your age, there's a certain amount of follicles that should sorry, hairs that would be growing out of each follicle. So they'll be able to also determine the thickness of each hair strand, and where it should be in, like do a breakage test and all of that. Linda Orsini:That's excellent. I know a lot of people will be referring to that. I just wonder is there how many how many hairs should we be losing a day because of course we're going to we're going to shed hairs every day.
Karina Budhrani:I believe it's 50 to 100 Because even when you're just sitting there eating your dinner, you might have one fall down you know the back of your shirt and you might not realize but at all there's so much that plays into factor is your nutrition and vitamins are they where they're supposed to be? Are you eating the right amount of healthy foods? How stressful is your life because people that even may think their lives are not that stressful. It is stressful. And even if you are super self aware, like I would say, I'm quite self aware now I've tried to practice yoga more regularly. I take a GABA every now and then which helps me calm down. I sometimes notice I'm extremely stressed out in the moment, I'm trying to move houses. And I was actually telling my fiance yesterday that I'm finding it hard to take like deep breaths, and I feel like the chest is heavy, and I'm not breathing. So practicing that mindfulness and just being aware of when you need time to rest, and to get your nervous system more regulated. So you're not always on fight and flight and you go to that rest and digest stage.
Linda Orsini:It's interesting, because as you're sharing this message, I feel that we ignore our bodies, our bodies speak to us, and are we listening to our bodies, for your stress, it came out through, you know, your skull, your hair, but other people may have different other symptoms. And so are we listening to our body, this is the message I'm also hearing, listen, notice, and then take action. So I love that you shared all your social links, and your website.
