The Gardener – Daily Wisdom

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1601 of our Trek, and it’s time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from   Zig Ziglar, and it is:  When there is pruning, the gardener is nearby.

The Gardener

As mentioned in a previous podcast, I grew up on an apple practically all of my life, from kindergarten until graduating from college and getting married. It certainly wasn’t an easy life with ten kids and my parents, all living in an old farmhouse with three bedrooms and one bathroom. Although we did not have many worldly riches, we had wealth unimaginable in what counts in life. We had a love of my parents, love for each other, and learning the value of love and hard work, even when you always feel like it. There were many other valuable lessons learned about raising apples, one of which was the pruning of the apple trees. My dad was patient as he taught us the proper pruning techniques.  As a young person, I did not enjoy that task, especially since it had to be done after harvest time during the winter. It was crucial that the pruning was completed while the trees were dormant, so it only left about four months during the year where we could prune. Since there were about 40 acres of trees, this took a while to complete. Just as with any type of pruning, at first, it seems counterproductive to cut off limbs that have the potential to bear fruit. As my dad taught us, the old or weaker areas of the tree must be cut away so the strong limbs could produce even better. Pruning also required knowing at what angle to cut and the most favorable place on a branch. So it is with our lives. The master gardener, God, knows how and when to prune weakness and dead spots from our lives so that we can become even more fruitful.  Pruning in our lives is not always enjoyable or painless. If we do not allow God to prune our lives when needed, just like on an apple tree, the bad spots or rot will eat its way back into that which is good.  We need to desire that we are pruned to productively and proactively work building God’s kingdom on earth, helping to restore a new Eden where we can rule and reign with God for all eternity.

John 15:1-4

“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
