Speaker:

Happy Thursday and happy brand new month.

2

:

It is August 1st, 2024 and a

Hey brand new month it's it's

3

:

birthday month for the church.

4

:

In fact, this Sunday in just a few days,

we're going to be gathering together

5

:

as the church, August 4th, to celebrate

one year of God's faithfulness to us

6

:

at compass Bible church, it's been an

amazing year just to reflect and look

7

:

back has been preparing for this message

has been something that has been.

8

:

Um, my mind and just looking back and

remembering all the God has done, uh,

9

:

from those times that we were meeting

in that unairconditioned or, or poorly

10

:

your conditioned room over there.

11

:

Frisco first, which, Hey, we were

grateful that they opened the doors and

12

:

gave us a space to meet, but it was hot.

13

:

Some of those nights in there for

Bible study and then our soft launch.

14

:

And then we, we started, we

had the gym pointed one way.

15

:

We didn't have a backdrop.

16

:

We.

17

:

Uh, God has done so many good things.

18

:

Our kids ministry, just developing,

growing, such that we just had that

19

:

VBS with all those kids, our student

ministry, by the way, who just

20

:

got back yesterday from revival.

21

:

So keep praying for the fruit

from that week or those handful

22

:

of days that they were there.

23

:

Uh, pray for our leaders to get rest.

24

:

Pray for pastor Rob, pastor, rod.

25

:

Uh, as of today is on vacation.

26

:

And so he's taken some

much needed time off.

27

:

He hasn't had a vacation

since we planted this church.

28

:

And so he's getting some time away.

29

:

With his family.

30

:

So pray for them, pray that it would

be restful and recharging for him.

31

:

Pray that he'll get to

the place where he misses.

32

:

The work of the church.

33

:

He misses our church.

34

:

He misses the people of the church

and no doubt about it, but pray for

35

:

him to get to the place where he's

like, man, I can't wait to get back.

36

:

I'm excited to get back and get back into.

37

:

Into the office and get back after things,

but just pray for a sweet time memories to

38

:

be made with him and his family, his kids.

39

:

Uh, his bride and just that

they would have a great time.

40

:

Uh, recharging.

41

:

It's a good thing for us to do that

in I'm thankful that he's taken that

42

:

time away, that he gets to do that.

43

:

Uh, but, but pray for those students

that are coming back from revival,

44

:

pray that this would not just be

this mountaintop experience for them,

45

:

that, uh, that this would sustain, uh,

that this would be sustained rather.

46

:

Pray that those students that don't

know Christ as their savior, that

47

:

this would be something where they're

coming back with a pebble in their

48

:

shoe or a burden, their saddle.

49

:

That's going to cause them to not

be able to find peace in an ease and

50

:

comfort until they deal with Jesus.

51

:

Pray for those that are

believers pray that, that the

52

:

messages that they heard about.

53

:

Uh, being created in the image of God and

how that should impact their identity,

54

:

pray that these messages will be sticky.

55

:

Pray that they will, uh, be impactful

and transformative for these students

56

:

prefer the relationships that were

formed over the last few days in the,

57

:

in deepened, their pray that those would

continue to grow and strengthen pre for

58

:

our student ministry to expand its reach.

59

:

Uh, we are fans of student

ministry here at our church.

60

:

I know there's a lot of different

perspectives on that out there.

61

:

Uh, we are not a fan of the

church, discipling students for

62

:

parents, but we are a fan of

the church coaching championing

63

:

that process alongside parents.

64

:

Uh, we do find that there

to be a benefit in that.

65

:

And there are many out there pastor,

rod himself included in that as I

66

:

think he shared on this podcast before

who, without student ministry may

67

:

not be here in the church may not be

believers because you know, I get it.

68

:

Yes.

69

:

We want parents to be discipling

children, but some children don't have

70

:

parents who were walking with the Lord.

71

:

And so we have an

opportunity as the church to.

72

:

To coach champion, even with those

faithful parents, even with, with

73

:

PKS pastors, kids, may I want other

adults co championing my labors

74

:

in investing in my, my high school

student and my middle school student.

75

:

I want them to learning from

other godly adults and student

76

:

ministry is a great venue for that.

77

:

So, Uh, that's kind of where we're at in

case you were wondering, but pray, pray

78

:

for continued fruit and continue to impact

for this camp to have reverberations

79

:

as the students return back home.

80

:

Uh, yeah, it is a it's Thursday.

81

:

We have a few more days

before our weekend.

82

:

Again, just celebrating what

God has done this weekend.

83

:

It comes Bible church is going

to be a snow cone truck there.

84

:

We're excited about that.

85

:

That's going to be after service.

86

:

Can't wait for that.

87

:

There's going to be a photo

booth in and cupcakes, and it's

88

:

going to be a birthday party.

89

:

So you're not gonna wanna miss the church.

90

:

You're gonna wanna be there.

91

:

I know some of you are traveling

and Hey, we will miss you and we

92

:

will wish that you were there.

93

:

And even more than that, you

will wish that you were there.

94

:

So, uh, Hey, we love you guys so

excited to celebrate everything

95

:

that God has done for our church.

96

:

This coming weekend, August

4th at campus Bible church.

97

:

But right now it's not August 4th.

98

:

It's August 1st.

99

:

So.

100

:

Uh, pay your rent, pay your mortgage, and

let's jump in to the daily Bible podcast.

101

:

Isaiah 64.

102

:

Isaiah 64 65 66.

103

:

We're finishing Isaiah today.

104

:

Finishing up Isaiah, uh, As I 64,

this chapter, as I mentioned at

105

:

the end of yesterday's podcast,

continues the prayer from Isaiah 63.

106

:

So it's an unfortunate break in our

reading because this really is a continued

107

:

prayer that the prophet is making as he

is landing the plane of his prophecy.

108

:

As he's bringing the book to a conclusion.

109

:

He's thinking about everything

in the judgment that's coming.

110

:

And he's thinking about the

sinfulness of the people.

111

:

And he's thinking about everything,

all the prophetic visions that

112

:

he's seen in his whole message.

113

:

And it's appropriate that he's

bringing the book to her closed by

114

:

saying, God, please be merciful.

115

:

Please act for your name and

your glory and your people.

116

:

And so that's what he does in chapter 64

and verses one through four, he asks that

117

:

the Lord would come rent the heavens.

118

:

Tear them open, pull them apart

and come down and make himself

119

:

known among the nations and the

fury of his great wrath and power.

120

:

So here, Isaiah is looking at the

Assyrians and all of the others in

121

:

the threat that they've been to God's

people and, and in all the corruption

122

:

that they've brought to the people of

God, even through intermarriage and

123

:

introducing idolatry and everything else.

124

:

And Isaiah, as you're praying God purge.

125

:

Uh, the, the world of the idolatry purge

the world of those that are your enemies.

126

:

And so he's making this prayer, this

rendering, the heavens, it's a common,

127

:

uh, idea in the Bible in Psalm 1 44 5.

128

:

For example, we get.

129

:

Uh, the Salma sing, bow your heavens,

a Lord, and come down, touch the

130

:

mountains so that they might smoke.

131

:

And so there's this concept of

the Lord coming down from heaven.

132

:

Uh, to execute judgment and vengeance

upon the enemies of Israel and the

133

:

nations that have rejected him.

134

:

Uh, verses six through seven,

then Isaiah here confesses

135

:

the sinfulness of the nation.

136

:

And even their righteous

deeds, which he does.

137

:

The pics is just repulsive to the father.

138

:

We won't get into graphic detail on this,

but some of you know, The filthy rags

139

:

imagery there, this is not filthy rags.

140

:

Like you're changing the oil.

141

:

This is a more, it can, if I can, this

is a clean way of putting it, like,

142

:

like filthy rags that you're using

to clean a di a baby's diaper that,

143

:

that kind of filthy rags, but, but a

little bit different there anyways,

144

:

even a righteous deeds are like that.

145

:

And maybe you think to

yourself, wait, how.

146

:

How is that possible?

147

:

And this even gets to the concept

that theologically and doctrinally

148

:

we refer to as total depravity.

149

:

Uh, total depravity being that we

are saturated in, in our sinfulness.

150

:

That we are completely sinful, such that

apart from Christ, that is such that even

151

:

our good deeds are not good in his sight.

152

:

And, and the reason that is

and how that can be is this.

153

:

When an unbeliever, when one

who doesn't know the Lord.

154

:

Uh, does a good deed.

155

:

We can stand from the, the, the

outside and look at that good deed

156

:

and appreciate it for, for being

good in inherently in the, the act.

157

:

But what is the motive behind it?

158

:

In what is the heart behind the

person who's doing the good deed.

159

:

And if that heart and that motive is

anything other than to glorify God.

160

:

Then that deed is, is motivated

by the wrong thing, which makes

161

:

the deed itself repulsive to God.

162

:

And so that's how.

163

:

Even our good deeds.

164

:

Can be offensive to a holy God.

165

:

And, and it meant when I even

hear myself talking about that.

166

:

It's convicting to me, right?

167

:

Because how depraved are we?

168

:

And, and even as believers, There

are so many times where I know that,

169

:

that the good things that I do.

170

:

Ah, man, my, my flesh is there in

my flesh is saying, man, I'm doing

171

:

this because I want somebody to

notice I'm doing this because I

172

:

think it's going to be good for me.

173

:

We are.

174

:

We need the mercy and grace of God.

175

:

So, so deeply.

176

:

And, and this is such a

stark reminder of that.

177

:

That if even our good deeds are offensive

to God when they're not motivated

178

:

by the glory of Jesus Christ alone.

179

:

Ah, man, how great must God's grace

and mercy be for us that he forgives

180

:

us and accepts us and redeems us

and allows us to, uh, to be his,

181

:

to be his sons and daughters.

182

:

What an amazing concept.

183

:

This is.

184

:

But Isaiah recognizes this reality

and is confessing the sin of the

185

:

people of Israel here as he's

pleading for the mercy of God.

186

:

Verses eight through 12, then

Isaiah praise again for, for mercy.

187

:

And, and Mercy's a word

we throw around a lot.

188

:

So grace and mercy, those two words.

189

:

Th the concepts are related graces.

190

:

This.

191

:

Grace is getting what you don't deserve.

192

:

It's a gift, right?

193

:

You get it.

194

:

It's freely given to you.

195

:

Mercy is not getting what you do deserve.

196

:

So grace is getting

what you don't deserve.

197

:

All the good things of God and his favor

and his forgiveness and his kindness.

198

:

Mercy is not getting what you do deserve.

199

:

And so it's not getting the wrath.

200

:

It's not getting the anger.

201

:

It's not getting the punishment.

202

:

It's not getting the judgment

that your sins are worthy of.

203

:

Right.

204

:

That's what mercy is.

205

:

And so that's what Isaiah is pleading

for from the Lord while acknowledging

206

:

his power God's power and authority.

207

:

As the Potter over the clay, he

also appeals to the impending

208

:

destruction of Jerusalem and the

dishonor might bring upon his name.

209

:

And this is common in scripture as well.

210

:

The appeal has got.

211

:

Act for your name, act for your glory,

act for your good, so that other

212

:

people won't see what has happened.

213

:

Verse 10 Zion becoming a wilderness

Jerusalem, a desolation and think, oh man.

214

:

We look at what happened to the Lord.

215

:

Look at what happened

to the God of Israel.

216

:

Look at what happened

to his reputation here.

217

:

So Isaiah saying, Lord, even, please

be merciful for the sake for your sake.

218

:

Uh, and, and for your name,

which is ultimately why God acts.

219

:

For all of us for, for salvation,

for mercy, for grace, it's all

220

:

ultimately for him and for his glory.

221

:

Well, Isaiah 65 then.

222

:

As we.

223

:

Get into this chapter.

224

:

Uh, the Lord says I was ready to be

sought by those who did not ask me.

225

:

I was ready to be found by

those who did not seek me.

226

:

I said, here I am here I am to a

nation that was not called by my name.

227

:

And so he's opening a chapter

65 verses one through seven.

228

:

The same, he was there, but then there

was just, he was met by a sinful people.

229

:

And so in verses one through seven

in response to Isaiah's prayer, Hey,

230

:

he says judgment still has to come.

231

:

There has to be punishment.

232

:

For God to remain just, that's such an

important gospel concept for us as well.

233

:

Y'all, that's why God, can't just

forgive sin, carte blanche and, and

234

:

look at the whole world and say, don't

worry about this whole Jesus thing.

235

:

Don't worry about the cross.

236

:

I'm just going to snap my

fingers because I'm God.

237

:

And all of your sins are gone.

238

:

You're forgiven.

239

:

No, that's not just a seeing has to

be punished for justice to be a thing.

240

:

If, if sin is not punished, if wickedness

is not dealt with, then there is no

241

:

such thing as justice and justice

is an inherent attribute of God.

242

:

It's part of who he is as part

of his character, his holiness.

243

:

And so God can not, but.

244

:

Execute justice.

245

:

And so we see that here.

246

:

He's telling us, Hey, look, I, th

justice needs to come just as will come.

247

:

Judgment will come.

248

:

But verses eight through 10, he says,

but still there will be a remnant.

249

:

Th there, there will be this,

this faithful few who are

250

:

left, who would seek him.

251

:

And when they sought him, he would

be found as we talked about not long

252

:

ago, seek me while I may be found.

253

:

Right.

254

:

There's going to be some, and he says in

verse nine, I will bring forth offspring

255

:

from Jacob and from Judah, possessors

of my mountains, my chosen shall possess

256

:

it and my servant shall dwell there.

257

:

And so again, he's looking forward.

258

:

Ultimate fulfillment

of that is yet to come.

259

:

It's still in the future.

260

:

It's the millennial kingdom, but God

is saying, look, I'm not going to

261

:

make a total end of my people here.

262

:

Verses 11 through 16, that there would

be a distinct difference between the

263

:

faithful that he just talked about in the

faithless and God's actions towards both.

264

:

And so in these verses here, uh,

for the faithful, there would be

265

:

what follows in the next section,

which is verses 17 through 25.

266

:

The section speaks of God creating

the new heavens and the new

267

:

earth, but it primarily deals

with the period right before that,

268

:

which is the millennial kingdom.

269

:

Again, we kind of talked about

that mashup thing and that's okay.

270

:

That's okay.

271

:

That the mountain peaks remember.

272

:

And the reason we say that, That this

deals with the time right before that.

273

:

Is because in the new heavens

and the new earth, if we've read

274

:

revelation 21, 22, there's no death.

275

:

Okay.

276

:

Because sin is no more.

277

:

And so the reason why we look at

verses 17 through 25 and all the

278

:

good that's described, and we say,

Hey, yeah, but this is still talking

279

:

about the millennial kingdom.

280

:

This is that.

281

:

That future for the faithful

remnant that I was just talking

282

:

about in verses eight through 10.

283

:

The reason why we say this

to the millennial kingdom

284

:

is look at Isaiah 65 20.

285

:

It says no more.

286

:

Shall there be in an infant who lives,

but a few days or an old man who does not

287

:

fill out his days for the young man shall

die a hundred years old in the center,

288

:

a hundred years old, she'll be a cursed.

289

:

So what he's saying, there is the death

is still gonna be there, but, but man,

290

:

people are going to live a long time.

291

:

Somebody who dies a hundred is going to

be considered, but a baby, but an infant.

292

:

Uh, somebody who dies at a hundred years

old, people are going to look at them

293

:

and say, man, they're, they're a sinner.

294

:

Who's a cursed.

295

:

And so the millennial kingdom,

there's still going to be sin

296

:

and they're still gonna be the

consequences of sin, which is death.

297

:

It's going to be mitigated

because Satan's going to be bound.

298

:

And so it's not going to be

nearly as rampant as it is today,

299

:

but there will still be sin

and there will still be death.

300

:

And so that's why in verses 17 through 25,

even though the scene is one of peace and.

301

:

And, and, and just pleasure and

comfort for the people of God.

302

:

This is still not yet the eternal state.

303

:

This is the millennial kingdom,

because again, we see the death is

304

:

still on the scene here in Isaiah 65.

305

:

All right.

306

:

Finally, Isaiah 66, Isaiah 66

is really just a good summary

307

:

chapter for the whole book.

308

:

Is it revisits key themes

and ends with a note of hope?

309

:

In this future millennial kingdom.

310

:

So verses one through six, uh, God

declares him, not impressed with a

311

:

building or sacrifices of a people whose,

whose hearts were not with him instead.

312

:

He wanted them to have a broken and

contrite heart Psalm 51 17 David

313

:

prays, a broken contract heart.

314

:

Oh Lord.

315

:

You will not despise.

316

:

And so he starts out by saying

enough with your sacrifices

317

:

and going through the nations.

318

:

This was the message of, Hey, stop.

319

:

This is the message of enough

playing the games that, that

320

:

we found so often in the book.

321

:

Then verses seven through 13,

though, the birth pangs would be

322

:

felt judgment was going to come on.

323

:

God's people, the pains of

labor God would deliver them.

324

:

Through it all.

325

:

And they would again be comforted in

Jerusalem as a mother comforts her child.

326

:

So that hope in the future that

Isaiah is ending the book with this.

327

:

The sweet taste of hope in the future.

328

:

There.

329

:

And, and so verses 15 through 24.

330

:

Uh, judgment's going to come before

that right before the millennial

331

:

kingdom here comes the judgment of God.

332

:

But in the millennial kingdom, God

would use his faithful remnant.

333

:

As a light to the nations

in the priesthood would be

334

:

restored in Isaiah 66, 21.

335

:

Israel was going to enjoy a

special identity among God's

336

:

people, even to the eternal state

of the new heavens and new earth.

337

:

And we see that again

in verses 21 through 22.

338

:

Uh, so let me read

those verses real quick.

339

:

As the a 66 21, some of them also, I

will take for priests and for Levi's

340

:

says the Lord for, as the new heavens

and the new earth that I'm make

341

:

shall remain before me says the Lord.

342

:

So shall your offspring

and your name remain?

343

:

So he's talking to Israel again.

344

:

Saying, Hey Israel, you've got a place,

even the new heavens and the new earth.

345

:

There's a unique place there.

346

:

For Israel.

347

:

So just a cool.

348

:

Ending to the book where he

summarizes things saying, Hey look.

349

:

God's not impressed with going through

the motions, but Hey, you know what?

350

:

There's a future hope when things will

be good when things will be bright when

351

:

all this wrong will be undone in church.

352

:

I can't wait to get there.

353

:

I hope you can't wait to get there.

354

:

And on that note, let's pray.

355

:

As we end this episode, God, we

thank you for that future hope.

356

:

And we long forward,

we look forward to it.

357

:

In the meantime, God, we don't want

to be like those, that just go through

358

:

the motions and bring our sacrifices

to church on Sunday and play a game

359

:

and, and even pick up our Bible.

360

:

We can pick up our Bibles and read

them just going through the motions.

361

:

And, and get, we don't want to do that

so that we think, okay, well, I deposited

362

:

my, my karma of Bible reading today.

363

:

So hopefully the rest

of my day will go, okay.

364

:

That's that's not aid at all.

365

:

We don't want it to show up on Sunday and

worship just to think, well, then God will

366

:

be off my back for the rest of the week.

367

:

And it doesn't matter how

I live the rest of my life.

368

:

That that's not eight at all.

369

:

God, we want to worship you out

of hearts that are contrite,

370

:

which is to be sorrowful.

371

:

Over our sin, even as we talked about.

372

:

Even if our good deeds are sinful.

373

:

Oh, man, we're done.

374

:

We're done.

375

:

Even if, if even my good deeds are sinful.

376

:

Then, then what do I have, but to cast

myself on the grace and mercy of God,

377

:

and if we can get there, then that's it.

378

:

That's where we need to be.

379

:

Lord.

380

:

We need to be there to say, even if, if,

if even my good deeds are sinful, then

381

:

I'm just going to, I'm going to cast

myself in the grace and mercy of God.

382

:

So give us such a mindset, such our heart.

383

:

We pray.

384

:

We ask in Jesus name.

385

:

Amen.

386

:

All right.

387

:

Y'all keep, bring your Bibles tune

in again tomorrow, August 2nd,

388

:

as we, uh, I think are back in

Kings tomorrow, maybe Chronicles.

389

:

I don't know.

390

:

You're going to have to tune in

to find out we'll catch you then.

391

:

Bye.
