Evo Terra:

Consistently releasing episodes on a set schedule is a good

Evo Terra:

idea to keep your overall audience happy.

Evo Terra:

But that doesn't mean that every individual listener is listening

Evo Terra:

to every individual episode.

Evo Terra:

Is that okay?

Evo Terra:

Today's episode is brought to you by Gumball, the premiere

Evo Terra:

marketplace to easily and efficiently buy host-read podcast ads.

Evo Terra:

Gumball provides a transparent and modern buying platform, connecting great

Evo Terra:

podcasts with the best advertisers.

Evo Terra:

Gumball takes away all the logistical headaches for podcasters and advertisers

Evo Terra:

alike by managing inventory schedules, providing easy and consistent ad

Evo Terra:

script instructions, easy aircheck uploading, and ensuring payments

Evo Terra:

are made in a timely fashion.

Evo Terra:

Best of all, Gumball takes pride in offering the most podcaster friendly

Evo Terra:

terms as a standard, meaning more money flowing directly to the podcaster.

Evo Terra:

As it should be!

Evo Terra:

If your show is pulling down more than 10,000 downloads per episode, you owe

Evo Terra:

it to yourself to talk to Gumball at Gumball.fm to see how they can help you

Evo Terra:

make even more money with your podcast.

Evo Terra:

That's Gumball.fm.

Evo Terra:

And tell 'em Evo sent you!

Evo Terra:

Hello, and welcome to another Podcast Pontifications with me, Evo Terra.

Evo Terra:

Last week, you didn't get any new episodes of Podcast Pontifications

Evo Terra:

because I was in Belize.

Evo Terra:

Yay!

Evo Terra:

And yes, it was a lovely, lovely time.

Evo Terra:

Strangely enough, I didn't get any new episodes of any podcasts while I was away.

Evo Terra:

Allow me to explain.

Evo Terra:

Yes, it's true, I didn't listen to any podcast episodes for six days.

Evo Terra:

Not a one.

Evo Terra:

And with the exception of some approvals I had to make on some files for clients

Evo Terra:

produced by the team, I didn't even put headphones on or put earbuds in.

Evo Terra:

And I subscribe to a lot of podcasts.

Evo Terra:

Wasn't a wifi issue.

Evo Terra:

I had plenty of access to all of the content.

Evo Terra:

They were still there on my podcatcher.

Evo Terra:

Being on vacation and doing lots of other things, that was the issue.

Evo Terra:

A very good issue, I know I will say.

Evo Terra:

On Saturday of last week, when I, finally, boarded the four and a half

Evo Terra:

hour first leg of the journey back, I started listening to podcasts once again.

Evo Terra:

I had a pretty big backlog in my queue, as you might imagine,

Evo Terra:

not listening for six days.

Evo Terra:

So I had to be picky, or, at least, I chose to be picky.

Evo Terra:

I caught up on two serialized shows that I'm listening to.

Evo Terra:

No, not just fiction.

Evo Terra:

One was fiction, one is nonfiction.

Evo Terra:

I also listened to exactly three other podcast episodes

Evo Terra:

from three different podcasts.

Evo Terra:

And that was it.

Evo Terra:

Now, I'll probably, eventually catch up on the other episodes of the serialized

Evo Terra:

shows because I'm listening to more than just those two serialized shows.

Evo Terra:

Again, not just fiction.

Evo Terra:

I'll probably catch up on all of those.

Evo Terra:

But the episodic ones, you know, the normal style of podcasts that

Evo Terra:

release every day or week or whatever?

Evo Terra:

No, I probably won't go back and listen to those episodes that I didn't listen to.

Evo Terra:

And yes, those are shows that I actually enjoy listening to.

Evo Terra:

I love to listen to the episodes, but I know that there's going to

Evo Terra:

be another episode of that show pretty much the next couple of days.

Evo Terra:

So I'll be able to get my fix without going back.

Evo Terra:

Related, a week or so before my trip, I emailed a friend of mine

Evo Terra:

who's a podcaster, as well, a podcast I listened to on a regular basis.

Evo Terra:

I'm subscribed.

Evo Terra:

I had a topic idea for this podcaster.

Evo Terra:

I thought about making it an episode of Podcast Pontifications, but it's a

Evo Terra:

little too esoteric, and I don't think I can tie it back into podcasting enough.

Evo Terra:

This other podcaster, they would be perfect, I know, to cover

Evo Terra:

this topic in great detail and would be really enjoyable for me.

Evo Terra:

Turns out, after receiving my email, they said, we've already done that.

Evo Terra:

I have already put it out, they said, and it wasn't all that long ago.

Evo Terra:

I missed it.

Evo Terra:

And hey, that happens.

Evo Terra:

As I said, I listen to a lot of podcasts.

Evo Terra:

But you know what I didn't do?

Evo Terra:

Knowing full well that this podcaster had already covered

Evo Terra:

the topic I wanted them to cover?

Evo Terra:

I didn't go back and listen to that previously produced episode.

Evo Terra:

Yes, I really wanted to hear their take on the topic, but I guess it was

Evo Terra:

too much effort for me to sort through either my podcast listening app or their

Evo Terra:

page with the reverse chronological order of the dump of episodes they have

Evo Terra:

to figure out which episode it was.

Evo Terra:

What's the point of all of this Evo?

Evo Terra:

Well, the point of all this is that this happens a lot.

Evo Terra:

A lot more than we probably want to admit to ourselves.

Evo Terra:

And while, yes, I know I can count on a few, very few dedicated listeners

Evo Terra:

consuming my content on a regular basis, and I'm sure that you also can

Evo Terra:

count on a few, likely a very few, people dedicated to listen to every

Evo Terra:

single episode you put out, neither of us can say everyone does that.

Evo Terra:

Heck, we can't even say that most people do that.

Evo Terra:

Now, this is the part of the show where many podcast consultants would

Evo Terra:

offer up ways to make sure your audience never misses your episodes.

Evo Terra:

But that's all bullshit, if I'm being honest.

Evo Terra:

You can't assure that.

Evo Terra:

They can't assure that.

Evo Terra:

No one can ensure that will happen.

Evo Terra:

And yes, serialized content has a much greater chance of not having

Evo Terra:

episodes skipped, but do you want to produce a serialized show?

Evo Terra:

So my advice to you is don't sweat it.

Evo Terra:

And also don't assume that everyone hangs on your every word.

Evo Terra:

Some do, for sure, but many more do not.

Evo Terra:

Now it's time for the boost-the boost-the boost- Boostagram Corner.

Evo Terra:

Boostagram Corner.

Evo Terra:

I don't know a thing about crypto.

Evo Terra:

I've got a lot of Boostagrams to get through, so let's

Evo Terra:

power through these puppies.

Evo Terra:

A big thanks to podcasting editing powerhouse Steve Stewart for this

Evo Terra:

nice review he left on Podchaser.

Evo Terra:

He says:

Evo Terra:

"Seth Godin is a marketing genius and always makes me think."

Evo Terra:

Wait, I'm not Seth...Oh

Evo Terra:

- "Evo is like the Seth Godin

Evo Terra:

Ooh!

Evo Terra:

"At least 80% of the time," Steve goes on to say, "Evo makes me think - and re-think

Evo Terra:

- about all kinds of podcasting topics, best practices, and 'big picture' strategies.

Evo Terra:

I no longer produce a podcast of my own.

Evo Terra:

However, listening to the Podcast Pontifications helps me work with

Evo Terra:

my clients (podcasters) better."

Evo Terra:

Well, thank you very much, Steve.

Evo Terra:

I appreciate that.

Evo Terra:

High praise for sure.

Evo Terra:

I also got a note from Coach JD of the podcast Health Talks with JD.

Evo Terra:

He left a five-star review on Apple Podcasts, as well as on Podchaser.

Evo Terra:

He says:

Evo Terra:

"Much needed.

Evo Terra:

I love being given the opportunity to think rather than

Evo Terra:

being instructed what to do.

Evo Terra:

This show allows someone who's just getting into podcasting or has been

Evo Terra:

in it for a while the chance to consider what choices they can make

Evo Terra:

to build a better show for themselves.

Evo Terra:

A much-needed show for anyone interested in podcasting to put in their rotation."

Evo Terra:

Why thank you very much, Coach JD.

Evo Terra:

I appreciate that.

Evo Terra:

Also, a big shout-out and thanks to Biray Seitz.

Evo Terra:

Biray I've known for a long time.

Evo Terra:

She sent me money through Venmo!

Evo Terra:

Wow!

Evo Terra:

Yes, you can actually send me money through Venmo, as she

Evo Terra:

does with a note that says:

Evo Terra:

"Thanks for all the valuable tips you share on Podcast Pontifications."

Evo Terra:

Biray, you are very welcome, and I'm very much looking forward to the

Evo Terra:

project you're working on right now, seeing how that thing takes shape.

Evo Terra:

Inside, meta joke just for you.

Evo Terra:

And to wrap this Boostagram section up, Mr.

Evo Terra:

Gary Arndt from the podcast, and also who dominates TikTok, with Everything

Evo Terra:

Eveywhere sent me an official Boostagram.

Evo Terra:

He paid 1776 sats and sent this message along that said:

Evo Terra:

"This show is part of my daily routine and one of a handful of

Evo Terra:

daily podcasts I always listen to."

Evo Terra:

A very fitting way to end this episode, Gary.

Evo Terra:

Thanks for that.

Evo Terra:

If you got value out of this episode, or any of the episodes that I produce

Evo Terra:

on Podcast Pontifications, and you wish to return that value - we call

Evo Terra:

it value for value - and you can go to podcastpontifications.com/value4value.

Evo Terra:

I don't care how you spell it.

Evo Terra:

You'll get there.

Evo Terra:

And you'll find all of the ways which you can contribute to the show monetarily

Evo Terra:

through reviews, ratings, all of that - podcastpontifications.com/valueforvalue.

Evo Terra:

That's it.

Evo Terra:

I shall be back tomorrow with yet another Podcast Pontifications.

Evo Terra:

Cheers!
