Shownotes
In today’s episode, I’m diving into why you were taught not to cry, and why it might be time to unlearn that. For many of us, the message that crying isn't okay started early. Maybe you heard phrases like, "Dry it up," or "I'll give you something to cry about.” Maybe you grew up believing strength meant keeping your emotions hidden, or never letting your kids see you struggle.
But hiding our emotions doesn't necessarily protect the people around us. It can actually reinforce the idea that tears are something to be ashamed of.
Our tears have a purpose, and they need somewhere to go. You don't need to apologize for your tears, and you don't need to judge them. Sometimes, allowing yourself to cry is simply part of allowing yourself to be fully HUMAN.
In this episode, I cover:
- Why so many of us apologize for crying
- Why hiding emotions doesn't necessarily protect our children
- 3 types of tears + the purposes they serve
- The unique benefits of emotional tears
- What repressing emotions can really lead to
- Choosing to cry when YOU feel comfortable + also not holding them in forever
