(Joseph) Ravi Zacharia: Christian Celebrities: RZIM’s statement links to the report

Celebrity Christian Culture as a business and unquestionable.

  1. Elitism/brand building and idolizing pastors/teachers (especially orthodox pastors/teachers). Ie., Ravi received better treatment from the Christian community than Lentz even though Ravi’s was a different caliber.
  2. Ravi/Carl Lentz/Mark Driscoll/Perry Noble in contrast to Art Azurdia.
  3. It’s easy to make money in superficial christianity-you can be fake and successful. Ie., South Park episode on how easy it is to be successful in Christian music. (Prosperity gospel preachers and above mentioned orthodox preachers).
  4. Does this hurt the Gospel message? No, what hurts the gospel message is not caring about Ravi’s victims-that should be your concern. Some will say-all Christians sin-what about David’s adultery? David repented-the consequences continued, not his adultery. That’s different from a pattern of unrepentant sin concealed in your heart to the grave. Ravi was a deviant man who used his power and money, like the world, to silence his victims. Worse than the world, he used his Christ for wicked deeds.
  5. What to do? Become a Christian who is not concerned about power, prestige, and glory. Pay attention to the local church. Investigate, genuinely, all claims.
