This is the ANTI-New Year's Resolution Episode. Yes - ANTI-Resolutions. Don't do it for 2021. And if you already have them, just put them aside.

This episode will give you the key to making 2021 your Best Year EVER!

Why no new year's resolutions? Here's the facts. Here's the facts, goals and resolutions. We set every year. We just don't meet them. We just don't meet them. Is there anyone out there who's nodding their heads right now?

Who's gets to the end of the year and then looks back and goes. I, I can't even remember what the new year's resolutions I set last new year's. There was a study done in 2018 by the University of Scranton. It said only 8% of people see their resolutions through to the end of the year.

So that means 92% of the people give up at some point. And here's, here's another key point by the second week of February, just six weeks in roughly 80% have given up or forgot about their goals or they just stop. So if you could just stick with it for six weeks, Your, your odds are greatly improved over the rest of everybody else who already gave up, but that's only 8% of people take it through to the end of the year and say, one of your goals is maybe a fitness goal.

Cause a lot of us do that and we pack on those pounds over the holidays and don't feel good about ourselves. And we want to get into great shape. Well, according to Strava, a social media platform just for athletes. They did a study. They say by January 12th, over half over 50% of those with athletic and fitness goals have already given up.

That's less than two weeks into the year and over 50% of athletes give already given up.

So, if that sounds like you every year, having the absolute, best of intentions, setting those resolutions, setting those goals for the new year and then breaking them or forgetting about them just a few weeks or maybe a couple of months into the year. Here's what I need you to do. Even if you already have written out your goals, you've written out those new year's resolutions.

You've given them a lot of thought. I want you to put them aside. I don't want you starting on them. And there's a good reason for that. Here's what I want you to do. This is the question I need you to think about, and I need you to come up with the answer. The question is, who do you want to be? Say to yourself, who do I want to be in 2021?

Who do you want to be? I want you to go deep. Really think this through. You may have never thought about it this way before, you know, if you're having a tough time thinking about, well, who do I really want to be? What does that really mean? Okay. Now, now let's, let's think about your resolutions. Read the first one, because these are all clues as to who you really want to be.

So read the first resolution. And then I want you to ask yourself why, why do you want to accomplish that goal? Why this resolution start asking why? And go as deep as you need to,

Self-help and motivational guru, Tony Robbins, along with his partner, Dean Graziosi came up with this exercise called seven levels deep. And that is continuing to ask the question why every time you give an answer, ask question, why keep going deeper and deeper and deeper. So for example, say you're one of the many people that wants to lose a little bit of weight this year say, and you set that goal.

I want to lose 30 pounds in 2021.

Now it takes a lot of work and you have to change a lot of habits. It's not just one thing. It's easy to say. I want to lose 30 pounds and it feels good. And it's like, well, yes, that's it. That's what I want to do, but let's start unpacking what it's going to take to lose those 30 pounds. First of all, you might need to start eating differently. You have to buy different foods, foods. You might not enjoy all that much. And healthy food is more expensive than just buying junk food. There's no more trips through the drive-thru.

Okay. No more just buying the burger and fries, which is simple to do. Because you want to lose those 30 pounds, right? You have to learn how to cook and maybe you've never met. You've never been much of a cook before, but you've got to learn how to cook or maybe you're just, you need to find different recipes.

You may have to learn some new things and that's already four or five new habits just for just involving eating. Okay. So. Hm, like four or five new habits just involving eating. So, and now maybe also need to start exercising to reach that 30 pound level. So you might need to buy some new equipment or you need to join a gym.

You might need to get some workout clothes. Maybe you've never had somebody for you. You need some new ones. Cause you outgrew the old ones. Now you need to carve out time to actually. Work out. Maybe you're sitting there going shoot my schedule. I am jam packed busy already. And now I've got to carve out an hour or two, couple of times a week just to work out.

It's a lot of work right there. And maybe you're going to invest in a special program, like a WeightWatchers or you're going to get an app like a, my fitness pal or noom to help you out go losing weight. This is no joke. So think about all the things I just mentioned, we're talking about losing 30 pounds, but it includes all of those things you got to do.

It's no wonder that people break a resolution. It's hard. These are hard things to do. So what I need you to do is start asking why, why do you want to lose 30 pounds? So maybe the answer is something like, well, I want to get in better shape and keep going deeper. Why, why do you want to get in better shape?

Well, I want to feel better about myself. Well, why? Well, because when I play with my kids, I can't keep up with them. And then I have to take breaks. You don't want to be the parent that's involved with their kids, not just sitting and watching over on the sidelines. Boom. There it is. There it is. You want to be a more fit and more active parent.

That's why you have to get deeper. That's who you want to be. So. Let me give you another example. If you've ever heard Ed Mylett, who's a phenomenal entrepreneur and he's got a great podcast called the Ed Mylett show.

Ed was not in very good shape at one point in his life. And he went to the doctor for an annual physical, and he was expecting the doctor to say, okay, well, you've got to do this. You got to do that. And he said, well, let me ask you a question. He goes, do you have any kids? He goes, yeah, I've got a, I've got a daughter.

He said, well, let me ask you this. Do you want to walk your daughter down the aisle at her wedding? He said, what? Wait, what did you say? So do you want to walk your daughter down the aisle? Do you want some water? The guy to do it? He was like, Whoa. All of a sudden that became his why? Every time he didn't want to go to the gym and workout.

Boom, my daughter's wedding.

Get to your WHY? Who do you want to be? Do you want to be that active parent? Let that be your guide. Let your WHY make your decisions for you? For most of us, you're saying I want to lose 30 pounds. It's not going to motivate us to exercise or to pass on, take another handful of chips out of that bag.

Guess what the fourth chip tastes the same as the first three, after the taste sensation of eating that first chip, uh, say it's so good. And then the second, the third, you know, now you're just eating now you just eating to eat, grab a couple of chips, put the bag away before putting the first one in your mouth.

Why? Because your kids deserve a parent who's out there spending quality time with them. So when your daughter is trying to make the track team, you can actually go for a run with her around the block. How about that?

you know, but whatever it is for you and why do you want to get your home office organized? Why do you want to stop smoking? Why do you want to save more money? What is your why? You know, maybe if you, if you want to save more money in 2021, maybe your why is because you want to give more. Make your, why your check and balance on how you make decisions.

So when they announced the, uh, the iPhone 37 XL is coming out and you just got the 36 last month and all of a sudden, Oh my gosh, they added it. One more upgraded camera. You're not immediately really out there spending more money on something you really don't need need you get back in line with saying, you know what.

I want to give more. So who do you want to be? Answer the question for yourself?

So, who do you want to be? Who do you want to be? Do you want to be that person with the newest iPhone or do you want to be the person who makes a difference to somebody else by maybe at lunch, you tip 50 bucks on a $10 lunch bill, because you have the best server who you found out by talking to her that she's working a couple of jobs and it's tough making ends meet, or maybe to pay groceries for the mom, with the two little kids who's clearly struggling behind you in line, or to give more money to a charity that you're passionate about.

Well, how about this? Do you just want to be the person who enjoyed going through the fast food drive-through more than help making healthy meals for themselves? Or do you want to get off of those meds that you've been. Struggling to get off of the high cholesterol, high blood pressure medicine, whatever it is, or maybe to look great in the mirror, or to be able to run around the backyard with your kids, or maybe even your grandkids.

So figure it out who you want to be and keep asking why go deep until you get to the real core of what will motivate you this year. Now I know what everyone's thinking right now.

So, Jim, what about trade shows? Right? What about virtual events? No. No, I know you're not thinking about that, but let me tell you, let me tell you.

I have been talking about you this whole time and who you want to be, because it's so important. Consider this coming up with your personal brand. It starts today. Make it start today. Everything you do should be in line with who you want to be. This is your brand. This is your brand of who you were going to be going forward.

So in the same way, develop that brand for your business. If you don't already have a business brand, or maybe you need to take another look at it because every business has a brand, some created intentionally and some create a brand just by how they conduct business. So take a look at your business. Do you have a brand?

Is it strong? Does it make people yawn or does it make people take notice? And make you differentiate from everybody else. It should be memorable if you don't have one, take the time to create one. You know, I'm going to have out an expert on another. Episode's going to talk all about business branding. So be on the lookout for that, because when you're at a live event that is key, that is critical to helping you stand apart from your competition.

But for now, what I want to do is tie your personal brand and your business together. When you create who is it that you want to be, you're creating that personal brand. So how does that leak into your business? Well, when you find out your why, when you figure out who it is that you want to be, you are raising the bar for yourself.

You are committing to a higher standard of excellence. And when you do that, excellent can not be contained. It will seep into every area of your life. Now you may have heard the saying before how you do one thing is how you do everything. And that is so incredibly true. So what I want you to do is I want you to raise your game up.

If you set a higher bar for yourself in your personal life, then you will be a better business person. Guaranteed period. End of story. You will give more effort. You will operate with integrity. Your trade shows are going to be better. Your events are going to be better. Period. Everything you do is going to be better, and this is proven.

Over and over and over. I'm not saying don't have goals. Okay, please. Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying don't set goals for yourself, but you got to set that overall brand first. And if you want those goals or your resolutions to have power, then figure out who you want to be. Then put that goal out there to lose 30 pounds.

Or to save more money or whatever it is that you want to get done this year. Okay. Two last things to wrap this up. Two last things after you determine who you want to be and what your why's your core really is. I want you to figure these two, two things out. Number one. Who can help support you or keep you accountable?

It's so much easier to stay on track with some kind of support system. So find someone, maybe it's a close friend. Maybe it's a relative. Maybe it's someone in your family. Who will hold you accountable that you could share with, maybe you can be buddies where you can help hold them accountable for what they want to accomplish as well.

So find someone or find a group if fitness is your goal, then a group like WeightWatchers or some other group that we'll have people there to guide you along and hold you accountable is so, so powerful.

So that's number one, find someone who can help support you and keep you accountable. Number two. How are you going to celebrate your victories? We don't celebrate enough, especially this past year 2020. We did not celebrate enough because there wasn't a lot to celebrate, but you need to celebrate your victories.

Accomplishments are awesome, but keep working and you're hitting milestones and you're not celebrating. Then you might not be reminding yourself how, which you're actually accomplishing, you are working so incredibly hard to reach these goals, to reach these milestones, please, please celebrate that.

Doesn't mean you're falling off the wagon that you're saying I'm doing this I'm and it's worth it. It is so, so worth it. So please take time to celebrate. So that's the last two things. Okay. Are you convinced. This is the best way to go. I hope you are. I hope you are. And I mentioned at the beginning, I'm also going to be giving away some prizes for just following this for having your best year ever.

It's like a double bonus, right? You're going to have the best year ever and you can win some stuff. So here's what I need you to do. I have set up a special web page, go to trade show you.biz. Slash 2021. So that's trade show the letter U dot B I Z slash two zero two one. And let me know what your commitment is for 2021 or share your personal or business brand.
