Shownotes

In the final episode of our San Diego Design Week series exploring inspiration and the senses, we explore the sense of touch with Anke of Twelve Senses Retreat in Encinitas. Anke’s design journey began with car design and eventually led to creating this beautiful retreat, which has four rooms inspired by the four elements and the senses. She shares how she thoughtfully designed each room, and explains why she chose certain features, materials, and textures for each of the elements. Hearing Anke’s passion for working with her hands and building spaces may also inspire you to create and take a break from working on digital screens.

Guest Bio

Developing the Twelve Senses Retreat has been a dream of Anke’s for over a decade. The first seed was planted when she traveled to the Valle De Guadalupe with some dear friends. They visited La Villa De La Valle, and Anke was deeply touched by how co-owners Phil and Eileen had left their careers in Los Angeles, moved across the border, and built a new life. Their incredible passion for high quality artisanship and sustainability left a long-lasting impression. Ten years later, she is immensely thankful to have completed Twelve Senses Retreat with incredible support from friends, family, and her architects and building team. She is a proud new member of the Design Hotels group, which has long been her go-to inspiration for travel and hosting.
