Shownotes

Your speaker reel isn’t the reason you’re not getting booked.

And neither is your lack of credentials.

I say that as someone on the speaker-booking side of the business.

But there’s a problem:

You can build a great speaker brand and still be difficult to book.

Because buyers aren’t simply asking:

“Is this person a good speaker?”

They’re asking:

“Is this the right person for MY audience, MY problem, and MY moment?”

That changes how you should build your speaking career. You don’t need to become louder.

You need to become clearer, more relevant, and easier to understand and buy.

CEO of WPC Speakers Global, Antoniette Roze, joins Host, Leverage Your Podcast Show, Lyndsay Phillips as they share why subject matter experts spend months polishing their reel, refining their keynote, posting more content, chasing podcasts, and trying to “build their personal brand.”

Here’s the better way:

1. Stop building a résumé. Build a speaker ecosystem.

Your keynote, podcast appearances, content, speaker reel, testimonials, website, relationships, and audience should reinforce the same positioning.

Your talk is not the destination.

It’s the first step in a journey.

2. Stop trying to speak to everyone. Define the audience you want to own.

The right audience can create opportunities far beyond a single speaking fee.

Because your bigger checks may come from the audience, not the host fee.

That can mean corporate training, consulting, workshops, advisory work, programs, partnerships, and other opportunities that start with your expertise being seen by the right people.

3. Stop constantly reinventing your message.

Your signature talk should become recognizable.

Then evolve it.

Small changes in examples, stories, delivery, language, and emphasis can keep your message relevant without forcing you to rebuild your entire platform every season.

4. Stop confusing passion with positioning.

Passion matters.

Authenticity matters.

But passion alone doesn’t tell a buyer why they should bring you into the room.

Your expertise has to connect to something your audience actually needs to solve.

People don't buy the nuts and bolts.

They buy what those nuts and bolts will do for their life, career, team, or business.

5. Stop treating your speaker reel like the product.

Your reel is evidence.

Your message is the product.

Your positioning is what makes the buyer stop and pay attention.

Your assets should make it easier for someone to quickly understand:

Who you help.

What problem you solve.

Why your perspective is different.

What audiences you’re built for.

What transformation you create.

That’s how you move from:

“I’m available to speak.” to: “This is exactly who we need.”

The speakers who build sustainable careers aren’t necessarily the ones doing the most.

They’re the ones creating consistency between their expertise, message, audience, assets, and opportunities.

That’s the shift I want more emerging speakers and corporate trainers to make.

Don’t just become a better speaker.

Build a career that gives the right people a reason to book you.
