Transcripts

📍 You know that feeling when you sit down to work and you're like, Ugh, I just feel like this is not it. Like there's something off and I can't quite figure out what it is, but I'm tired. Yeah, that's what we're talking about today. 📍 By the end, you will have explored and have some more clarity on why that knowing of like what it it is that I need to change or that is wrong or whatever it is, um, is it kind of slips away and actually creates anxiety when.

Your nervous system is at capacity. The deeper question that your business or career confusion is actually asking the one that no quiz or mentor is going to reveal, and. Then behind that, the question that no productivity coach ever mentions. So if you are caught in that fog of indecision and feeling like every potential path is either too risky or just wrong, uh, let's actually go there together.

So I was recently in this place, some of you know that. I used to live in Columbia for about a decade, just over, and I moved back to Australia, which is my home country, and I published my book and it was a really, really awesome, and at the same time, it was also accompanied by this knowing deep down that something had to change, but I could not figure out what it was.

I was confused, I was conflicted. I don't like being confused and conflicted. So that was also really scary. Um. Especially as somebody who's, you know, in the personal development world and does this stuff, I was just like. Kind of restless. I was hungry for something new, something that felt more aligned, something that felt more like me, but there was nothing really wrong with what I was doing.

Anyway, we were back and forth. Um, there was this part of me that was feeling that way, and then I was back and forth with another part of me that was actually completely petrified. I wouldn't have admitted it at the time, but I was afraid. I was afraid that if I made the wrong decision. Uh, it would be the wrong decision.

I was afraid, um, that if I did make some type of change, then I would lose kind of authentic, like authenticity. I would lose credibility. I would fail publicly. Uh, I would lose my income stability. I would. You guys would figure out that I'm not smart or, or something like that. And I looked back at last time, I had felt this similar way and I was about 25 and it was cute.

It was like, oh yeah, that's really lovely. She's going for her dreams or whatever. Right? Um, but this feeling of what felt to me like I was starting over, you know, it felt really dramatic to me. It's, it wasn't, um, but. What felt to me was like, I was starting over in my thirties, was like, like, I don't know, crazy.

And I have clients come to me and I have women just come to me who are older than me and they're going through that same thing. And so it, it's this combination of like, as we get older, we still have these feelings and these vo, these uh, ways that our body speaks to us. And I'll get into that in a second.

But we put so much pressure on ourselves as we get old, just to have it figured out, right? Because a part of us that conditioned part of us from society is like, oh, well, does that mean that you failed at this thing? Or aren't you supposed to have it figured out? And the thing is. We don't see those parts and the limiting beliefs that they're holding.

We just get pulled in all of these different directions, right? There's one foot on the gas, it's like, yeah, move forward. Go for the thing. And then there's one foot on the brake and it's like, eh, stop. And our system and our body, it fills this tug of war. It fills this tension. So it's, we just kind of limber in that place.

Unfortunately, a lot of people stay there and it turns into chronic health diseases and it turns into bitterness and burnout. Uh, and you might be there at the moment. So anyway, even though I at this time would like brainstorm and journal, and I had a, I had a coach for some of this and I would map out options and nothing would stick, it didn't feel right and it was.

In hindsight, I can see now it's because my body, even though I had the theory, then I can actually see what was happening now. My body didn't feel ready, didn't have the capacity to hold the big feelings, emotions, sensations, and risks. That came with actually listening to what it was saying, and I couldn't see those limiting beliefs because the people around me had them too.

So. I wasn't in a, in a community or support where I had contrast to see a new and a different way. So my community has also been in these limiting beliefs and partially because there wasn't enough safety, um, partially because I just wasn't with the right people to help me see them.

I am gonna go through the beliefs that I have fallen into and I see you guys falling into that are keeping you in this place of like, I, I don't know, and I can't figure it out. And. Hindering you and stopping you from creating a role and a schedule and a career and a business and a life that actually aligns with your body and your nervous system so that you can have sustainable income and so that you can feel like yourself.

Number one, I feel like I should be able to do this myself by now. You are smart. You are resilient. I thought, I'm smart, I'm resilient. And for us sometimes just admitting and being like, oh, I actually, in order to have the this amazing life that I do want, that I feel like is there, I, I need some help. I would benefit from some support.

Then there's the one of, if I actually pause and slow down, I'm not gonna get back up, or I'm gonna lose everything that I've worked for. That pausing, that going slower, that looking deeper, not in your mind, like going past the mind. It feels really dangerous and really risky to those parts of ourselves that have created a life through hard work and pushing forward.

And I'm not saying that we need to get rid of those beautiful parts of ourselves, but we ha we have to come down deeper inside. It doesn't mean that we're gonna lose control. It doesn't mean that we're gonna become irrelevant, uh, that people are gonna forget about us.

Sometimes it's helpful to do it with a person who helps you get past your mind and helps you do slow down. In fact, for a lot of people, it's actually necessary because those parts of us that are resistant to slowing down and, and looking a little bit deeper inside, uh, really need the help of somebody else to affirm like, oh, no, no, no.

It, it's okay. And like, we're not gonna be here forever and we're not gonna become overwhelmed. We're not gonna go back to emotional places where we've been before, where we, it was too much like, we can do this. Uh, the third one is, well, everything is fine. Like, everything's fine on the outside. So. I, if I'm feeling this way on the inside, there must be something wrong with me.

Like, this is wrong, so let me just kind of hide it or pretend it doesn't exist. This one is just your self-doubt and it's just all of the ways that the world likes to tell you that you are wrong and all of that internalized stuff that you've had since you were a kid when you know you learned that maybe you know the shame stuff that we end up having you, the way that you doubt your own intuition.

The way that you invalidate your own needs, the way that you think, well, actually, can I want that much or is that unrealistic?

Should I just kind of close my mouth and keep going and kind of keep up with the Joneses and everyone else is doing it? So maybe I should

not. True sneaky, but not true. Nothing wrong with you. And when you see that one, you kind of have two options. You can choose to believe that there is and that you should just keep going and you can try that out, see if that works for you. Or you can say, actually no, and I don't have to do this alone, and I can figure this out.

And I do have enough space to go in and look deeper. And some of you will actually turn the podcast off right now because you don't even wanna look at this truth. But for those of you who do care, let's keep going. I've done therapies. So why is this happening? Like, I know this stuff. I, I get it, babe.

You've processed it. You don't, may, maybe you do wanna do more inner child work, maybe you don't. Um, being somebody who's done this stuff, when you're in this fog and this toughness, it can feel really frustrating or like you failed in some way. Uh, it can make you question. The Spirit universe, God, it can make you question yourself and there's a reality around that, which is capacity and that your nervous system wasn't made to do all of this alone.

So we end up back at that place. I shouldn't, I should be able to handle this. Maybe not. Maybe life is more linear, is less linear and more of a spiral. And maybe you actually do need and deserve some support sometimes, and maybe you don't need to be so hyper independent. Just an idea. I can't take a risk at this stage of life.

Yeah, the stakes are high. You have, you have things that you need to do. You have rent, you have a mortgage, you, maybe you have kids, maybe you have a reputation, and I get it.

And then look at the risk of staying as you are. And you'll get to the point, and this is what happened to me, where the risk of staying in the place that I was became so high, the risk of losing my aliveness, the risk of losing my happiness, the risk of losing a sustainable way of making income in a way that makes sense to me when it becomes so high.

I. Then come back and look and say, okay, the risk of staying where you are and the implications that it have, that it has, are you willing to take them or are you ready to, ready to try something else? And when you're ready to try something else. I'm here. We have coaching support and if you're not sure yet, that's fine.

Just keep listening to the podcast. Then we, I had this one, and I see this as well, no one else can do my job like me. Okay. So if you were to delegate or if you were to teach someone else, if you were to stop doing certain things, then it feels like you're compromising on the quality. And there's a part of this that is true.

And we do have an episode on delegation from a client of mine who really struggled with this, and she works in design. So it's very subjective and you, it's a difficult thing to teach. Uh. So she would over-function and then resent the load. Uh, this is a limiting belief. I'm not gonna go into the, in that episode, we're going into the three steps of how she, uh, got through this.

I won't do that here, but I want you to know it is a limiting belief. It is not objectively true. Speaking of objectivity, then we have the logic part of our brain, and those of you who are very logical thinkers, which is this belief of like, clarity should be a logical thing. If you, if you think through it, if you mind map it and it logically makes sense, then, then I'll get it.

But what if it's actually not as simple as that? And what if the, your mind, the cognitive parts of your mind, what if there are limitations and what if. Uh, what if knowing comes from inside? It's, it's just knowing and asking your body, is this the correct thing? And then there's a yes. And then what if the logic comes afterwards?

I'm not saying be impulsive. I'm not saying be reckless, but what if it's not as simple as this will all make sense in my mind when it makes sense in my mind. You guys know this one, and some of you are gonna pretend that you're not in it, that you're not doing this because you're spiritual, because you're emotionally attuned.

But what if you are? You might be. You probably are. Anyway, so you're holding all of these beliefs and I was holding all of these beliefs, and what you're trying are things like mindset coaching or just talk therapy. Super insightful, very thought based. Does not build your capacity to ask your body what is the correct decision and experience the difficulty emotions that stop you from feeling that decision.

And then understand and know deep inside, yes, this is the right thing to move forward. Does not help you with that. That's why we have somatic coaching. You're trying time management tools. Planners, me too, literally created a tattoo PT that helps me plan my day. Super helpful in like that. It helped me not have so much cognitive, um, like executive executive function got better.

Um, however you're still working on this understanding of my worth is based on how much I output. Um, it. It also assumes that your problem is time management and productivity, not the energy that you have, not depletion, not lack of clarity about what you want in your life, and it can add a lot of pressure and put you in this like whirlwind of getting things done, which is very addictive, but actually gets you further away from the things that you need to change to feel.

Aligned and to create sustainable income that is in a role and a schedule that aligns with your nervous system, whether you are neurodivergent, you have chronic illness, whether you're highly sensitive, or you just want things a certain way. Then we've got the journaling pros and cons list once again.

Everything I said about somatic wisdom, helpful career quizzes, brand workshops, messaging, upgrades, helpful sometimes, but are you treating the symptom more than the underlying problem below? Possibly. Um, also trying to do more like, just like do more if I just get this done, if I just work really hard.

Because if you work hard, you can achieve anything, right? I mean, if that was true, you'd be where you wanna be. And then also trying to do less. Like just being like, okay, I just need time off. Or I don't know. That can be a little bit of a nervous system collapse sometimes I think it backfires for a lot of people that are hard workers because it creates a lot of guilt and shame, or a freeze response.

That stops us from getting that internal clarity about what it is that we need to create the role and schedule with sustainable income that aligns with our nervous system. So you're in these ways. You're addressing your schedule, you're addressing, you're thinking, you're addressing maybe doing less, but.

What you're needing is more capacity to feel the truth inside and the path forward. You're needing a sense of safety to let go of the fear of failure, the fear of success, the fear of abandonment, the fear of betrayal, and a way to get more in contact with the answers from within. And then you can do the tools and replicate them on the outside and you know, this is why you stay stuck in the fog.

This is why I stay stuck in the fog, even though I knew all of the things. So I'm not saying that I'm immune to it and I'm don't wanna shame anyone for being there, but.

Beneath all of this, this fog, this feeling of, I don't quite know what are these protective mechanisms, because it's quite scary and a very courageous thing to look beneath that confusion and commit to having a life, a business income that does make you feel good. Not everyone else in the world is doing it.

Some people, they're just bitter and unhappy. And if you have a history of burnout, you're also probably managing things like, can I change my life without burning out again? So until there's a deep feeling in your bones that yes, I can feel these things, yes, I can change. Yes, it's safe, no strategy, no quiz, no mentor, no something is gonna land because.

What we want to create is capacity to hold, to notice, to see, to handle what comes next. So for me, I actually hired a somatic coach very similar to myself, to look deeper inside, and we didn't immediately address the problem. Of that feeling. We actually started with some other stuff, but just by clearing the space there, I then went and used the tools and practices that I have in my book that I teach all of my clients.

And my own clarity emerged and I felt so much more in flow since, and I had somebody coming up and they're like, wow, you just, you're glowing and I feel it. So if this is where you are. You know that you're meant for something more, but you're kind of in this like circling place, like I'm not sure. I want to invite you to the somatic Clarity intensive.

It's a 90 minute deep dive where we don't just ideate and think about what to do next. We actually ask which parts of me are protecting me from feeling something that I really need to feel, really need to know, really need to listen to. And what does my nervous system need to listen to? What I want to validate what I want, and then to take the tangible steps to bring that into reality,

because that's how we avoid your burnout. That's how that, that's how we make sure that you have sustainable income that. Is aligned to what you want, what your body says yes to, and when all parts of you're on board. And when you're, you've got that essence inside saying yes. Um, execution is pretty, it's not hard.

You're smart. You know how to get things done. And when you wobble, you'll have me, you'll find the link to book this inside of the show notes, or you can message me if you wanna explore if it's the right fit. We also have a free call option if you're just like, ah, Sheridan, I'm not totally sure. Can we just have a chat?

Yes. To having a chat. I like having chats, so let's do it. Remember, you are not actually lost. You are discerning and you are carrying parts of you that need support that need. Reassurance that it's safe to choose and that looking for support around that, no matter where you are on your journey, it is not a sign that you are weak.

It is not a sign that you've done something wrong. It is actually your wisdom moving 📍 forward. And so thanks for being here and following that wisdom and I'll see you in the next episode.
