Common equine stifle ligament injuries often include strains or tears to the medial and lateral collateral ligaments and the cranial cruciate ligament. Veterinarians typically diagnose these injuries with lameness exams and imaging, then recommend rest, controlled exercise, and anti-inflammatory treatments. Tena Ursini, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVSMR, CERP, assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville describes the most common injuries she sees in the stifle region and her recommended treatment protocol.
