The past few days, I’ve been sharing with you some comparisons about various parts of the body working together – even though they all have different functions. The main thing I’ve been emphasizing is, no matter how small or insignificant the body part or function, if ALL of the parts are not harmonized and working together, the whole body suffers.
In fact, if one part becomes infected and dies or becomes septic, the entire body may die! Even from something as insignificant as an infected hang nail on your little finger! Amen!
Then, yesterday I shared about different contractors working together to build a house. I just want to go over that example again because I believe it is so powerful for what we are talking about.
Remember, it takes different people with different skill sets to assemble an entire house and to do so effectively and on time. Amen!
The body of Christ should function as efficiently as a group of people building a physical house. After all, we are ALL charged with building the Body of Christ on this earth. Amen!
So, you would have your foundation crew come in first. This is kind of like the Apostles to the nations. Then, you would bring in your plumbers and have them install all of those lines. That is important to do before you start assembling everything else. You have to know where all of those pipes go. In fact, the foundation people cannot lay the solid foundation until the plumbers finish their work. Think about it!
Then, the framers come and frame it all out. Then the, the walls go up and the electricians come and begin to do their jobs. As do the plumbers.
While all of this is going on, the carpenters put up the walls and are laying out the interior walls. The window people are coming in to install window and doors.
The roofers are coming in an enclosing the roof to keep everything dry. Then they come back to install the shingles and stuff.
While all of this is taking place, coordination is being made to have the siding people come in; the painters, the landscapers and all of the other people to complete the “prettiness” of the house.
How does that relate to various denominations?
Some denominations are great at sending laborers into the field. Others at serving the homeless. Others at contributing to causes and printing the Gospel. Others are good at witnessing while others are good at distributing.
Others are good at production and mass media. Others are good at holding to traditions and passing them down while others are great at changing with the times to reach a younger generation.
Think about, when you went to YOUR church, you either attended because that is where your family has always gone; or you went because your old church was full of OLD people. Or it could be you grew tired of the same old messages and were looking for a new take on Biblical principles. You found a church that served that need. So you moved.
Just like building a house, if ALL of the churches in your town, city or even just your neighborhood, would get together, pray, hold events and just work together instead of alone – so much more good could come. You would begin to TAKE BACK the streets from the drug peddlers and murderers and begin to actually DO the work of the Gospel instead of talking and wishing and hoping. Amen!
I know I’m way over time. So let’s close with a prayer.
