Speaker:

Hey, everybody.

2

:

Welcome to another edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

3

:

The day before the most important

election of the century of the century.

4

:

Wow.

5

:

I mean, every election is the

most important election of the

6

:

century in some sense, I guess.

7

:

So.

8

:

Yeah, I can't help, but

think that's not true.

9

:

Always.

10

:

Yeah.

11

:

Every year it's like, oh, well

the stakes are higher now.

12

:

I feel like you can always say that.

13

:

And then it's reasonably true.

14

:

Yeah.

15

:

What would it take for

the stakes to lesson?

16

:

Jesus comes back.

17

:

I guess then there's no more elections.

18

:

Yeah.

19

:

Yeah.

20

:

Which I'd be okay with that.

21

:

I would be too.

22

:

I mean.

23

:

I imagine the amount of time

you would say not watching

24

:

election campaign advertisements.

25

:

Sign me up.

26

:

Uh, I'd probably years

of my life at this point.

27

:

Yeah.

28

:

Yeah.

29

:

I, you know, if, if you're out

there and you're on the fence,

30

:

still listening to this about

whether or not you should go vote.

31

:

Um, for whatever reason, maybe you're

just beat down by election season.

32

:

You're, you're feeling

apathetic towards everything.

33

:

At this point, you feel

like I'm in a state where.

34

:

We know which direction the electoral

college is going to go with this

35

:

state or whatever it may be.

36

:

Let me just encourage you to go vote.

37

:

Um, that's a good idea.

38

:

Yeah.

39

:

Part of who we are as a church

and who we want to be is a

40

:

church that engages the culture.

41

:

And this is a way for us to do that.

42

:

A very, very, very

tangible, practical manner.

43

:

That's right.

44

:

Um, and so it's, it's, it's worth it

to go out and have your voice counted.

45

:

Uh, yeah, you may know which direction

your state is going to go, but at the

46

:

end of the day, It's helpful for those

in the office and those in power to

47

:

look and see, wow, look at how many,

you know, millions of people voted one

48

:

direction versus the other direction

that, and your voice counts towards

49

:

that towards conveying and communicating

something that, uh, that matters.

50

:

And you carry your biblical

convictions behind that as well.

51

:

So, um, don't sit this out.

52

:

Don't tap out and say, ah, it's a foregone

conclusion or, ah, my vote doesn't matter.

53

:

Get out and go vote.

54

:

Um, It's it's, especially in our area.

55

:

It's easy.

56

:

There's plenty of polling

stations that are open.

57

:

It doesn't take you long to do.

58

:

Uh, just go do it, go do it.

59

:

Go register your vote and

get your sticker and go home.

60

:

And then you can write out the results

tomorrow and know that you did your part.

61

:

Amen.

62

:

Yeah.

63

:

So daylight savings time.

64

:

Yeah, it happens.

65

:

It did happen.

66

:

Happened.

67

:

Yeah.

68

:

And I'd like to know

how you feel about it.

69

:

I'm for it, man.

70

:

You're for it.

71

:

Yeah.

72

:

I want the clock to stay the stay

where the state, where the time is.

73

:

Don't change things.

74

:

I like it in the fall.

75

:

I'd like us to keep just

getting extra hours.

76

:

I said, you know, what,

if that were the case?

77

:

I think a lot more Americans

would be okay with it.

78

:

If it just continued to go

back an hour would be okay.

79

:

But.

80

:

But it's this switching back and forth.

81

:

I don't like that.

82

:

Yeah.

83

:

I really do not like it, I guess.

84

:

Because.

85

:

Once I had kids like losing an

hour versus gaining an hour.

86

:

I feel like it was all the same.

87

:

They were going to wake up at

the same time, no matter what.

88

:

So it doesn't like it.

89

:

I don't, it doesn't bother

me, impacts everything.

90

:

And the world, everyone

struggles with this.

91

:

There are studies that show

people, just getting heart

92

:

attacks and having more accidents.

93

:

After the spring forwards

time change in particular.

94

:

And I just think let's just

keep, keep the one, please.

95

:

Please for all things.

96

:

Good.

97

:

Please just please governor

Abbott, please just do the thing.

98

:

Yeah.

99

:

Send it up the chain.

100

:

I don't know, man.

101

:

I, it doesn't move the

needle for me one way.

102

:

If they want to push, pause

on one of one over the other.

103

:

Okay.

104

:

Fine.

105

:

I there's.

106

:

I heard rumors though.

107

:

You're alone in that.

108

:

Okay.

109

:

I'm hunting.

110

:

Island all by herself.

111

:

Island PJ.

112

:

With multiple times, it wouldn't be the

first time I'm on an island on something.

113

:

But I heard, I think it was last

year that they were considering.

114

:

Um, Staying on a time zone that would

make us three hours different than

115

:

California versus two hours different.

116

:

Yes.

117

:

So yeah, different types

of daylight savings versus.

118

:

The other one.

119

:

Yeah.

120

:

And I think at the, at the

end of the day, it has to go.

121

:

So all the states have

to send it up the chain.

122

:

And I think it has to, I don't

know who has to ratify it, but.

123

:

It can't be done at the state level.

124

:

Which is what's the holdup.

125

:

And there's bills that have been proposed.

126

:

They have yet to gain, gain traction,

which for somebody like Danny Mayer,

127

:

that'd be rough because currently

he gets up and he's working for a

128

:

company that's based out of California.

129

:

So he's, he's on at 7:00 AM or.

130

:

Whatever.

131

:

And he's going from there.

132

:

And so I think it would,

yeah, that's okay.

133

:

You can take a hit for us.

134

:

Yeah.

135

:

Yeah.

136

:

He could, it'd be for

the good of all mankind.

137

:

If president Trump wants to

win the presidency, I think

138

:

he should campaign on that.

139

:

Well, I will streamline.

140

:

It's tomorrow.

141

:

And I don't think he can record

a new commercial in time.

142

:

Uh, he does.

143

:

He just said, just tweet it, man.

144

:

It was just like a pitch black room.

145

:

I'd be like, Hey, everybody likes light.

146

:

And let's just let there be light.

147

:

Yeah.

148

:

And so we're going to keep

the clocks where it is.

149

:

Okay.

150

:

Dude he'd have my vote.

151

:

That alone.

152

:

I would say let's do it.

153

:

I would give him my vote anyways,

but, but probably if, if they got rid

154

:

of property taxes, like that might

bump it up a little bit more soon.

155

:

All Abbott's talking about

lessening the tax burden.

156

:

At least I think that's a good thing.

157

:

So he already had that he already has.

158

:

Yeah.

159

:

He started that it was

a tax refund for us.

160

:

This, I think this year.

161

:

Yeah, for.

162

:

We're part of the taxes, which is great.

163

:

I don't know if I saw that.

164

:

Um, I would call your mortgage company.

165

:

Okay.

166

:

Do you have any insight about that?

167

:

One in a hundred mortgage.

168

:

Uh, help.

169

:

Um, yeah.

170

:

Okay.

171

:

Let's jump into the word.

172

:

Mark 11 and John 12.

173

:

Um, mark 11 triumphal entry

verses one through 11.

174

:

Uh, this is Matthew 21.

175

:

This is Luke 19.

176

:

This is John 12.

177

:

Uh, so this is something that

happens in all four gospels.

178

:

Uh, mark does add the detail that he

went to the temple, but then returned to

179

:

Bethany because of being late in the day.

180

:

And so you referenced, I think in

yesterday's episode, the timeframe.

181

:

And here's where we find out

that, that detail, that, that this

182

:

didn't all happen in the same day.

183

:

But that he went back to Lazarus's

house probably and hung out there

184

:

for the evening and then came back

the next day to do the temple.

185

:

Clinton took clean house.

186

:

Yep.

187

:

Yup.

188

:

Um, yeah.

189

:

And so he went up onto the mountain,

kind of observed everything

190

:

and that's, that's important.

191

:

I think maybe we, we see

something that is helpful for us.

192

:

I know.

193

:

A lot of times I can be reactionary.

194

:

Uh, somebody sends me an email or

somebody shoots me a text and my

195

:

gut is I immediately want to react.

196

:

I immediately want to respond and

Jesus would never do something

197

:

sinful because of who he was.

198

:

But I, I think there's wisdom in him

saying, okay, I see what's going on here.

199

:

I'm going to come deal

with this tomorrow morning.

200

:

I'm going to come back

and deal with this one.

201

:

Things are in a different

situation than there are now.

202

:

Sometimes it's wise to sit on that

email or to sit on that text for a day

203

:

and, uh, and respond when you're able

to, to process things a little bit,

204

:

bit better in respond a little bit

more calmly than perhaps in the moment.

205

:

Probably most of the time

it's wise to do that.

206

:

Yeah.

207

:

Yeah, I would agree.

208

:

Yeah.

209

:

From here.

210

:

Uh, we get the victory again, and this

is mark chapter 11, verses 12 through 14.

211

:

So we saw this in Matthew 21

as well, verses 18 through 19.

212

:

Uh, but here in, in mark 11, mark 11,

13 states that there were not any figs

213

:

on the tree, four, it wasn't the season.

214

:

And that's unique.

215

:

What do we do with that pastor rod?

216

:

Because surely Jesus knew.

217

:

That it wasn't fig season.

218

:

He grew up in this area.

219

:

It's not like he was a stranger.

220

:

I would never know if it was

fixed or not, but Jesus knew same.

221

:

Same here.

222

:

So why would he go up to this tree?

223

:

Knowing that it's not fig season

looking for a fig to be on it

224

:

and get angry in, well, maybe

not angry at the tree, but why.

225

:

And then proceed to curse the tree.

226

:

The tree is just being what

the tree is supposed to be.

227

:

Yeah.

228

:

And I think the difference

here is that the fig tree is

229

:

representative of Jerusalem.

230

:

And so he's intending to use

the tree as, as an illustration.

231

:

About the kind of fruit that

he expected from his people.

232

:

Now, even if the tree isn't in season,

there should still be some, some

233

:

kind of, some sign of fruitfulness

and that's exactly what they lacked.

234

:

So Jesus is inspecting the tree

with the expectation, a good

235

:

expectation of seeing something there.

236

:

Some sign of positive response.

237

:

And he's saying nothing and that

frustrates him, angers him, perhaps.

238

:

And he looks at Jerusalem and

he's looking at them saying I

239

:

expect something from my people.

240

:

I expect them to know.

241

:

I expect them to, and this is

so interesting because on the

242

:

one hand, God knows who we are.

243

:

He knows that we struggle.

244

:

And yet on the other hand,

There's still a responsibility.

245

:

He still holds us accountable for our own

lack of fruitfulness, our own sinfulness.

246

:

And if that was true of Jerusalem of old

Testament, Israel, Jerusalem at this time.

247

:

How much more true is that for the

believer, he expects fruit from his

248

:

people and we should be pleased to

bear fruit for his glory and his honor,

249

:

because that's what he's looking for.

250

:

Yep.

251

:

And it's a benefit to us.

252

:

We just talked about this on Sunday.

253

:

If you love me, you will

keep my commandments.

254

:

And then when Jesus said, if you

love me and keep my commandments,

255

:

the father and the son, we're going

to come make our home with you.

256

:

That, that proximity that

comes with obedience.

257

:

We look at obedience.

258

:

Side-eye like, don't,

don't bring up obedience.

259

:

I don't like the idea

of you talking about.

260

:

I know that legalism.

261

:

Exactly.

262

:

And not, we don't realize we, we

throw the baby of, of intimacy out

263

:

with the bathwater of legalism.

264

:

We think, well, legalism is bad.

265

:

Granted fair.

266

:

That's bad.

267

:

If we're up here saying in order to

be saved in order to be justified, you

268

:

have to do X, Y, and Z, and it's beyond

repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

269

:

Guilty.

270

:

That's wrong.

271

:

That's horrible.

272

:

But if we're up here saying scripture

calls us to obedience and says that it's

273

:

a good thing to obey because our obedience

is an expression of our love for Christ.

274

:

And bearing fruit is a good thing because

it fosters an intimacy between us and God.

275

:

That that's good for you as much as

it is something that God desires.

276

:

He's not a cruel task master

saying, Hey, do all these things.

277

:

Cause I want you to be miserable.

278

:

It's in doing this, do this, because

it's going to draw you closer to me.

279

:

And as James says, draw near to

God and he will draw near to us.

280

:

So I think you're right.

281

:

You're right in this.

282

:

This is, and by the way, Jeremiah eight,

13 is running in the background of this.

283

:

Jeremiah eight 13 says when I would gather

them declares the Lord, there's no grapes

284

:

on the vine nor figs on the fig tree.

285

:

Even the leaves are withered.

286

:

And what I gave them has

passed away from them.

287

:

He's talking to Israel, he's saying,

look there wasn't fruit there.

288

:

And that's a common theme that shows up

time and time again, with the Israelites

289

:

inheritors again in Mark's gospel.

290

:

After this, we get in verses 15

through 19, the temple cleansing.

291

:

Uh, this again, Matthew 21, Luke 19.

292

:

This is where Jesus comes back.

293

:

So this is, let's see.

294

:

Sunday, triathlon tree.

295

:

This is Monday of passion week here.

296

:

And so he goes in and he cleanses

the temple and teaches afterwards

297

:

mark 11, 18, the Jewish leaders were

afraid of him because the crowd was

298

:

growing more and more favorable to him.

299

:

Remember, this is probably

right around the time.

300

:

That we studied in John's gospel, where

the Pharisees are meeting together

301

:

and, and you had Gamilia there.

302

:

And give me a little says,

w w w what have we gained?

303

:

The whole world has gone after him.

304

:

Um, and so the thing that they

were fearing was happening, he was

305

:

gaining this large crowd and that's

going to precipitate and accelerate

306

:

their plans to, uh, to, to try to

find a way that, to charge him and

307

:

eventually put them to death there.

308

:

We get victory part two then, uh,

verses 23 or 20 through 26 here.

309

:

And so as they're coming back

again the next day, so this is

310

:

Tuesday now, so in the morning, so

they've gone home back to Bethany.

311

:

The coming back to Jerusalem the

next day, this is Tuesday, the

312

:

passion week they're coming by.

313

:

They see the fig tree, um, and they

point out Peter is surprised to

314

:

see that the tree died so quickly.

315

:

Uh, In in.

316

:

That's fair.

317

:

Right?

318

:

Because you don't expect a treated.

319

:

Immediately.

320

:

Go from life to death.

321

:

It takes a while.

322

:

Even if you're horrible with plants, it.

323

:

It'll still take you a

while to kill the plant.

324

:

That plant will still show

some life for a little while.

325

:

But just like when Jesus was on the sea

and calm the sea immediately, and the

326

:

waves didn't have to slowly die out.

327

:

They were immediately Placid.

328

:

So to hear the word of Jesus,

the creator, when he curses

329

:

this victory, man, it's dead.

330

:

It's gone.

331

:

It's dead.

332

:

Dead.

333

:

Yeah.

334

:

And so Jesus responds in verses

22 through 26 by teaching on

335

:

the power of faith and prayer.

336

:

And so now Jesus, isn't necessarily

dealing with an object lesson of the

337

:

fig tree anymore, but he's going after

another object lesson by telling them

338

:

like, if you have faith, you'll be

able to do things similar to this.

339

:

Um, Verse 23.

340

:

This degree of faith is something Israel

lacked, but Jesus wanted his disciples

341

:

to be different by having a different

faith, a better faith, a stronger faith.

342

:

Uh, verse 24 is going to be one

that is, you'll hear from some name,

343

:

it, claim it prosperity preachers.

344

:

And so pass around.

345

:

How do we interpret?

346

:

Therefore, I tell you whatever you ask

in prayer, believe you have it, and

347

:

it will be yours because that sounds a

lot like what we hear from the shysters

348

:

out there that are like, well, if

you believe enough, it'll be yours.

349

:

I think one of the challenges that, uh,

a Christian faces is, is to actually

350

:

let that text say what it says.

351

:

And I think the prosperity preachers

get closer to it than we might think.

352

:

But they're so far away that you

can't even say, okay, well, you

353

:

can't even give him partial credit.

354

:

But I think they're closer

to it than what we realize.

355

:

I think this is one of the principles

that Mueller lived off of and

356

:

his whole life and in granted.

357

:

I don't think that Mueller's an example

for all of us in every way that he

358

:

lived, but he does provide an example

of the kind of faith that God honors.

359

:

Uh, the childlike faith that he encourages

us to have is a kind of faith that

360

:

says, man, I know the heart of God.

361

:

This would honor you Lord.

362

:

And this is what I'm asking for in bold.

363

:

Expecting faith, but of course, all

of that is qualified with the asterisk

364

:

of, well, what is, what is the gut.

365

:

What does God's word say about this?

366

:

And, and is this really good for me?

367

:

Like kind of person that would exercise

his faith knows God's word so well and

368

:

has such a good relationship with him.

369

:

Uh, an intimate relationship to

call back to your Sunday sermon.

370

:

That they can, they can say, ah, I know

what God's going to do in this scenario.

371

:

I know what he wants to do.

372

:

That might seem.

373

:

Uh, audacious to some of us to see man.

374

:

How can you dare know what God says?

375

:

Well, I know his word.

376

:

If I know his word, I can have some

reasonable confidence that in my

377

:

sanctified common sense, this is

probably the direction God wants to go.

378

:

God, I want you to do this and

I want to do it for your glory.

379

:

And your honor, that kind of faith,

I think, is a faith that God honors.

380

:

And I think that's what

Jesus is calling for.

381

:

Yeah.

382

:

And if you're praying big, bold prayers,

and God doesn't answer them, the.

383

:

The response is not necessarily

that you didn't have enough faith.

384

:

Take Jesus in the garden, right?

385

:

Jesus praise multiple times in the garden.

386

:

Please let this cup pass from me.

387

:

Uh, and yet that wasn't God's will,

and we wouldn't look at Jesus and

388

:

say, well, Jesus, if you had had more

faith, the father would've answered the

389

:

prayer and taken the cup away from you.

390

:

So there are certain times that

we are going to be praying.

391

:

And praying things with, with a lot

of faith there, and yet God's going to

392

:

redirect and go a different direction

there and we can't sit back and go,

393

:

well, if I'd had more faith, God

would have changed his mind on this.

394

:

No God's mind is set.

395

:

He is declared the beginning from the end.

396

:

And so just sometimes we need

to recognize, okay, God, you've

397

:

got some of the better that I

don't understand it in mind here.

398

:

And I'm going to trust you in that.

399

:

First 25.

400

:

Um, This is unique here because he

points out that a lack of forgiveness.

401

:

A hint, hampers are our prayer life.

402

:

And that's something that we've talked

about before that the obligation that

403

:

we have, the duty that we have as

Christians to forgive whether or not

404

:

someone has come to seek our forgiveness.

405

:

And here we see it right here.

406

:

Whenever you stand praying.

407

:

Forgive.

408

:

If you have anything against anyone.

409

:

So that your father who's in heaven

may forgive you your trespasses.

410

:

And so here, Jesus is

making it very clear.

411

:

Hey, we've got to forgive because

if we don't, it's going to hinder

412

:

and impair our prayer life.

413

:

And also God's willingness to forgive

us, which is a chilling concept for sure.

414

:

Versus 27 through 33, then the

authority of Jesus has challenged.

415

:

We're going to see this happen quite

a few times in the coming days.

416

:

And Jesus, again, goes back and

says, okay, let's talk about,

417

:

you want to talk a authority?

418

:

Let's talk about the baptism of John.

419

:

Where did that come from?

420

:

Whose authority was that under?

421

:

Was that from God or was that from men?

422

:

And the Pharisees again,

they're afraid of the people.

423

:

They don't want to answer

one way or the other.

424

:

So Jesus says, okay, I'm not going

to answer you your question either.

425

:

And then he moves on from here.

426

:

John chapter 12, John chapter 12.

427

:

Uh, familiar territory because we've

covered it recently in, in, uh,

428

:

the preaching series here, but it

opens with the anointing of Jesus.

429

:

And this is a, an event that is

probably parallel to when Jesus.

430

:

Is anointed in the other gospels

when his, his head is anointed

431

:

here at his feet that are anointed.

432

:

And the explanation for that

is probably it was both.

433

:

Um, there was enough perfume in this

vial, in this jar that it could have been

434

:

both that happened in this one event.

435

:

So we don't need to parse out to

events or believe that there's

436

:

some sort of contradiction here.

437

:

It's just the point of emphasis

here, but Jesus is anointed.

438

:

Uh, here, this would have been

Saturday before passion week.

439

:

So we're backing up.

440

:

This is prior to the, the triumphal entry.

441

:

And so, um, Saturday before passion

week, we know this because it

442

:

says six days before the Passover.

443

:

So that would have been that Sabbath

day leading up to, so this is right

444

:

before Sunday, the triumphal entry.

445

:

So he's getting ready literally

for, um, the crucifixion in

446

:

everything in front of him.

447

:

And, and so that's why the anointing.

448

:

Uh, takes place here.

449

:

Um, uh, noticing in verses nine through

11 Lazarus has a warrant out for his head.

450

:

It's not just Jesus that thereafter.

451

:

But they're mad at, at Lazarus because

Lazarus had been out there testifying.

452

:

Hey Jesus.

453

:

Look what Jesus did for me.

454

:

He brought me from death to life.

455

:

So the people want Lazarus dead as well.

456

:

And so that's interesting.

457

:

We never find out the rest of

the story of Lazarus, but I

458

:

wonder what came out of that.

459

:

Following the crucifixion of Jesus

stories that we'll only hear in heaven.

460

:

Yup.

461

:

So many of those too, by the way.

462

:

I can't wait.

463

:

It's going to be awesome.

464

:

Versus at 12 3 19, the triumphal entry, a

little bit shorter account of that here.

465

:

We, we preach through that, but yeah,

a little bit shorter account here.

466

:

John 1216 tells us the

disciples were confused at this.

467

:

They didn't fully understand what was

going on and we have to understand

468

:

that they had heard Jesus talking a lot

about suffering a lot about his death.

469

:

And here the crowds were

shouting Hosanna and he seems

470

:

to be stepping right into that.

471

:

And so they're probably sitting

there going, what, what is going on?

472

:

How do we balance all this year?

473

:

Versus 12 versus 20, rather through 26.

474

:

We, I like this section.

475

:

The Greeks sections.

476

:

Why don't you take it then go for it.

477

:

They've heard from me on this.

478

:

Well, Yeah.

479

:

So some Greeks approach them

and they come to Philip.

480

:

And they say, sir, we wish to see Jesus.

481

:

And of course, Philip takes us to

Andrew, Andrew then takes it to Jesus.

482

:

And then Jesus says the

hour has finally come.

483

:

So that as you talked about in your

sermon here, this, this is now the hour.

484

:

This is the turning point.

485

:

The Greeks are now being called the Jesus.

486

:

That Gentiles are now being.

487

:

Drawn to him, which is in Jesus' mind, the

queue, which corresponds to the holy week.

488

:

This is it.

489

:

The hour has come.

490

:

The time for my glorification has

arrived, which means also the time

491

:

for the inclusion of the Gentiles.

492

:

And so he takes the opportunity

to highlight for them what it

493

:

looks like to be his disciple.

494

:

You, you want to see me?

495

:

You want to see what it

looks like to follow me.

496

:

Let me tell you about that.

497

:

And this is a famous section that

you've read in other passages.

498

:

He said in verse, he says in

verse 25, whoever loves his life.

499

:

Loses it.

500

:

And whoever hates his life in this world.

501

:

We'll actually keep it for eternal life.

502

:

And if anyone serves me.

503

:

He says he must follow me and

where I am, there will my serenity.

504

:

Also, if anyone serves me,

the father will honor him.

505

:

So service to Jesus, discipleship

to Jesus looks a whole lot like

506

:

the discipleship that he's already

highlighted in other places.

507

:

Die to yourself, take up your

cross, follow me, do what I say.

508

:

That's what it looks like

to see me or to follow me is

509

:

really what they're getting at.

510

:

So this is a really cool turning point.

511

:

I love it.

512

:

And I loved that.

513

:

The heartbeat behind it

served me wish to see Jesus.

514

:

And I think that's what every Christian

longs to hear when they come to

515

:

hear some preaching, show us Jesus.

516

:

Yeah.

517

:

And sometimes people have a very.

518

:

I mean back to your sermon here, a

very one dimensional view of Jesus.

519

:

Uh, Jesus, that only speaks to their

hurts and their, and their needs,

520

:

which is important, but he also

challenges us as his disciples.

521

:

I'm going to do it in

the gospel of Matthew.

522

:

Jesus is calling his people

to be salt and light.

523

:

Is calling us in the sermon on the

Mount to, to bear fruit, um, as John

524

:

will say in keeping with repentance.

525

:

So I really appreciate this.

526

:

This is a really cool section.

527

:

It is really cool.

528

:

Yeah.

529

:

One of my mentors in.

530

:

Ministry has that emblazoned on his desk,

on his pulpit, his preaching pulpit.

531

:

He has dash part.

532

:

The sir, we wish to see Jesus.

533

:

Oh, that's cool.

534

:

It's there on his pulpit.

535

:

As a reminder, every time he

steps into the pulpit, that one of

536

:

his jobs is to show Jesus to the

people as he preaches the text.

537

:

That's awesome.

538

:

So show us the whole Christ

as Ferguson would say.

539

:

There you go show us the whole

one, not just the partial one.

540

:

Right?

541

:

Which is a challenge.

542

:

And, and cause every time you preach.

543

:

Yeah.

544

:

There's so much about who Jesus is.

545

:

Yeah.

546

:

There's the manifold perfections

of his personality that are really

547

:

hard to capture any single sermon.

548

:

Yeah.

549

:

Yeah.

550

:

Yeah, exactly.

551

:

Yeah.

552

:

And sometimes that, that Krista

centric versus crystal logical

553

:

approach to a text is what are you?

554

:

Is Jesus the point of every text?

555

:

Or can you get to Jesus from

every text and awards and.

556

:

You know, I think sometimes,

yeah, it's just, it's a, it's

557

:

a tough road to walk and walk.

558

:

In a balanced way to, to do

justice to the historical setting

559

:

and everything else in the text.

560

:

There's a lot there.

561

:

And did.

562

:

Well verses 27 through 36, then

he talks more about the hour.

563

:

Um, the hour has come and he talks

about the fact that, uh, he's troubled

564

:

over this, this impending hour,

but yet this is why he's counted.

565

:

So he's not going to pray that

he would be delivered from this.

566

:

And Jesus says, it's

about the glory of God.

567

:

He prays that God's going to glorify

him and they hear this voice.

568

:

From heaven saying I have glorified it.

569

:

I will glorify it.

570

:

And she's just makes this

enigmatic statement at the time.

571

:

That would be understood later

in verse 32, when I am lifted up

572

:

from the earth, I will draw all

people to myself that all there.

573

:

I think we have to understand

that as all, without.

574

:

Uh, distinction, not

all without exception.

575

:

Jesus is not saying that he's

going to draw everyone universally

576

:

to himself through the cross.

577

:

That would be what we call universalism.

578

:

Uh, but rather he's going to

draw all different types of

579

:

people all without distinction.

580

:

There's no one, including the Gentiles,

which is what would have been the,

581

:

the scandalous thing at this point.

582

:

Uh, that including the Gentiles, the

world that he had just been talking

583

:

to, uh, everybody is going to be able

to come to him through the cross.

584

:

He's going to draw people to himself

through, through that offering

585

:

that he's going to make there.

586

:

Uh, versus 37 through 42, we get

the section here where there's

587

:

unbelief prophesied from Jesus

that we had done so many signs.

588

:

They still did not believe.

589

:

So that what the word spoken

by Isaiah, the prophet.

590

:

Was might be fulfilled.

591

:

And so the unbelief prophesied was

prophesied all the way back from Isaiah.

592

:

In part by Israel, but now also even

more so during the time of Jesus.

593

:

And so the application there from that

text was yeah, in the short term for old

594

:

Testament Israel, but, but also there with

the people rejecting Christ in that day.

595

:

And then finally, chapter 12 ends in

verses 44 through 50 with a statement from

596

:

Christ on why he came to save the world.

597

:

Now he is turned away from the Jews

at this point, he's hidden himself.

598

:

So we're not sure exactly

where 44, 3 50 fits.

599

:

It might be right after that.

600

:

And it might be that this is just Jesus

and his followers, or this could have

601

:

been an editorial job by John where

he's placing this kind of out of order

602

:

from where it actually took place.

603

:

But.

604

:

Jesus is, is staying here

in, in issuing the call.

605

:

Hey, whoever believes in me believes

not me, but him who sent me I've

606

:

come into the world as a light.

607

:

So again, Jesus' mission is reinforced

in verse 40 through four through

608

:

50 in the end of John chapter 12.

609

:

Boom.

610

:

All right, let's pray.

611

:

And then we will be

done with this episode.

612

:

Got to help us to be a light in

this world, help us to be able to

613

:

take the truth of your word to those

around us, help us to show Christ

614

:

to people who are in our midst.

615

:

And that's not just the job of a preacher.

616

:

That's the job of all of us

as your ambassadors, as your.

617

:

Uh, missionaries as though has been

sent with the great commission.

618

:

And so God, we want to be those that,

uh, that go to a world that may not be

619

:

asking like these Greeks did, Hey, show

us Jesus, but they need to see Jesus.

620

:

And so help us to have that mentality.

621

:

And, uh, to bear fruit in bringing people

in and sharing the gospel with people

622

:

to see them come to faith in Christ.

623

:

Pray in Jesus' name.

624

:

Amen.

625

:

Amen reminds me of that

song that show us crap.

626

:

Great.

627

:

Once it gets off, it is a.

628

:

And do that.

629

:

We should do that.

630

:

We have done that.

631

:

Have we?

632

:

Yeah.

633

:

Okay.

634

:

I think we did it.

635

:

Do it again once.

636

:

We should do it again.

637

:

We should do it again.

638

:

Yeah, we will.

639

:

Alright.

640

:

Hey, can you bring your Bibles to

tune in again tomorrow for another

641

:

episode of the daily Bible podcast?

642

:

See you.
