A New Tanya class By Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz “Give Charity even if you are struggling”
Tanya Igeret Hakodesh Chapter 16
The Alter Rebbe writes a letter to a financially struggling community that even though they are struggling & not able to support their families to the point that they are borrowing funds to live first the Alter Rebbe blesses them that G-D should have compassion for them however the Alter Rebbe still insists that they should give charity to those less fortunate than them specifically the Jews in Israel at that time.
Why?
If we won’t have compassion on them who will? As the verse says וחי אחיך עמך & the only time חייך קודמין is when it is 100 percent equal however when it’s not equal you have to take care of the one that has less.
Even when it’s equal & the law is that you don’t have to give its best to give anyway.
Why?
A) As when you go by the rules you end up receiving what the rules have set for you (with no room for compassion & blessings) with the possibility of becoming a charity case.
B) We all need compassion from heaven so we are compassionate we will receive compassion from Hashem.
C) since we are human & sin as even saints sin & charity wipes away sins. Would we not give any amount for physical healing how much more so with spiritual healing.
D) charity to the poor is a loan to G-D & Hashem pays back double in this world as it’s the only mitzvah that you receive reward in this world.
E) a mitzvah that everyone participates & you don’t it’s noticed very strongly.
F) Hashem & the Alter Rebbe provides huge blessings for help the less fortunate.
