Speaker:

Being here on this planet as a sensitive, it's not just about surviving.

Speaker:

You are this powerfully attuned instrument of change

Speaker:

and powerful instruments often need extra

Speaker:

care.

Speaker:

Hello and welcome back to Remember Why You're Here,

Speaker:

a podcast for seekers and sensitives where you can relax, receive,

Speaker:

reconnect yourself and remember the most important thing of all,

Speaker:

why you're here. I'm Asia Suler, author, earth intuitive,

Speaker:

teacher and highly sensitive person. And in this podcast today,

Speaker:

we're going to talk about how to survive in this world as a sensitive.

Speaker:

So if you are a sensitive who has been feeling overwhelmed lately,

Speaker:

or maybe for a long time in this world, I made this podcast for you.

Speaker:

This episode is for you. In this episode,

Speaker:

we're going to talk about why sensitive people are overwhelmed right now in the

Speaker:

world, as if it weren't obvious,

Speaker:

but we're going to go into the specifics of why it is the way our nervous

Speaker:

systems are built means that we are more likely than not experiencing a sense of

Speaker:

overwhelm right now. And I'm also going to go into five energy practices that

Speaker:

I use all the time to help me come back to center,

Speaker:

because when we know how to release the overwhelm,

Speaker:

come back to ourselves,

Speaker:

we can then access the gifts that we're meant to bring to this world.

Speaker:

And ultimately, in this podcast,

Speaker:

I'm speaking to the part of you that feels like,

Speaker:

how can I possibly survive living in this world?

Speaker:

And hopefully by the end of this podcast, you'll not only know how to survive,

Speaker:

but how to thrive as well. Before we get started,

Speaker:

I wanted to mention that my 12-week in- depth Spiritual School for Sensitives

Speaker:

Earth Angel School is closing for enrollment next week.

Speaker:

So we only open the doors to this school once a year,

Speaker:

and that door is closing next week on April 15th.

Speaker:

That will also be our first day of class. We have weekly classes every week

Speaker:

for 12 weeks, as well as discussion groups led by me,

Speaker:

a whole library of bonus materials,

Speaker:

guided meditations to accompany you throughout your day,

Speaker:

and an optional in- person retreat at the end.

Speaker:

On our first day next week, we're going to dive into the secret.

Speaker:

This first class is called the secret, and in this class,

Speaker:

I talk about the way in which this term Earth Angel can actually

Speaker:

help you open up to an understanding of yourself that you probably have never

Speaker:

had before,

Speaker:

and that is going to completely reset the way you see yourself and your

Speaker:

sensitivity in this life from here on out.

Speaker:

I'm so excited to get started with this new cohort.

Speaker:

Everyone who has joined so far is such an incredible person.

Speaker:

What makes this course so special at its heart is the community,

Speaker:

the way in which folks show up for one another, support one another,

Speaker:

and how we are all evolving together because ultimately we're here to support

Speaker:

each other, to step into our own souls unfolding,

Speaker:

to understand who we are, how we work,

Speaker:

and really flourish on this planet. So if you're interested in the program,

Speaker:

you have until next week to sign up. And that link is

Speaker:

asiasuler.com/earthangelschool. So let's get back to the episode today.

Speaker:

If you are feeling overwhelmed, I want you to know you're not crazy.

Speaker:

The world is incredibly overwhelming. The world be wild right now,

Speaker:

and it's going to be wild for a while. Things that are going on right now,

Speaker:

there is an immense amount of intensity politically, environmentally,

Speaker:

technologically. We are living through a time of enormous,

Speaker:

enormous change.

Speaker:

And if you are someone who feels deeply,

Speaker:

notices subtlety, picks up on emotional and energetic undercurrents,

Speaker:

this moment of history is probably going to feel pretty overwhelming.

Speaker:

And if you're listening to this,

Speaker:

you probably are that kind of person because this is who a sensitive is.

Speaker:

This is how us sensitives operate.

Speaker:

So I want you to know that if you feel overwhelmed right now,

Speaker:

you are not broken. Your nervous system is just incredibly responsive

Speaker:

and you are not crazy.

Speaker:

You are literally just feeling the bigness in the energies right now in this

Speaker:

world. But there is a way, even amongst the intensity,

Speaker:

even amongst the bigness to meet what is happening,

Speaker:

to companion yourself and to learn how to be

Speaker:

able to be with bigness and translate it into

Speaker:

big changes for yourself,

Speaker:

into big ability to access your own life force,

Speaker:

to understand your own internal guidance system and to show up in the world in

Speaker:

the way you most deeply desire to.

Speaker:

So let's go into some specifics about why as sensitives,

Speaker:

we get overwhelmed when there are big things happening in the world. Well,

Speaker:

very specifically, sensitive people,

Speaker:

we are designed to be early detectors of change.

Speaker:

This is why evolutionarily sensitive people are created, among other things.

Speaker:

And so we can detect when there is emotional tension in the room,

Speaker:

when there is social unrest, even if it's unspoken,

Speaker:

we are tuned into collective grief and environmental changes. We are tracking

Speaker:

all of these changes. So anytime something is shifting in the field,

Speaker:

we're noticing it.

Speaker:

We are perceiving it and we are also using that information to pick up on

Speaker:

patterns. And so we are noticing subtleties all the time.

Speaker:

And in a world that is less than subtle,

Speaker:

you can imagine that that's a lot of information that our systems are intaking,

Speaker:

understanding, and trying to find patterns within.

Speaker:

I also want to name this fact that though it's true that as

Speaker:

sensitives,

Speaker:

we will get overwhelmed by literal information like reading too many

Speaker:

articles about the same thing or being exposed to too many different pieces of

Speaker:

news in a day. It's also true.

Speaker:

And what I find is that sensitives will often sense the change in the world

Speaker:

before they even read the news. Have you noticed this in yourself?

Speaker:

I've noticed this in myself, that I might take a day away, for example,

Speaker:

from looking at my phone or tuning into the news,

Speaker:

and I'm just feeling this inescapable sense of anxiety

Speaker:

or panic or overwhelm. And it doesn't fit with my life. I'm like,

Speaker:

" Nothing's happening right now in my life. Why does it feel so intense?

Speaker:

"And then I log back in and I see that something big has happened while I've

Speaker:

been away. And while no one has talked to me about it,

Speaker:

I have not read anything about it anywhere.

Speaker:

My body was picking up on it in the field.

Speaker:

My nervous system was picking up on the subtle changes in the global

Speaker:

environment and already responding to it. And so I just want to tell you,

Speaker:

you're not crazy.

Speaker:

If you are having these big emotional dips or overwhelm and you're

Speaker:

maybe not even that tuned in to what is happening on a daily basis,

Speaker:

know that your nervous system is picking up on it, is trying to respond to it,

Speaker:

is tracking it,

Speaker:

and is trying to perceive the pattern so you're not nuts. This is literally how

Speaker:

you were designed.

Speaker:

And you can imagine that that does make it hard to not feel overwhelmed

Speaker:

at times because when big things are happening,

Speaker:

we're then using a lot of ourselves to track that bigness and make it make

Speaker:

sense.

Speaker:

Because this is the reality of being a sensitive person is that we're tracking

Speaker:

everything all the time. Even when we don't think we're tracking,

Speaker:

our tracker is still on and it's working in hyper mode.

Speaker:

So especially if you're an empath when it comes to other people,

Speaker:

you are constantly tracking their wellbeing and their nervous system.

Speaker:

And this doesn't just stop with your intimate acquaintances or intimate people

Speaker:

you know. This extends to people online, the people you're reading,

Speaker:

it extends to the people you're reading about,

Speaker:

other people in other parts of the world here you will never meet.

Speaker:

You are also attempting to track them, how they're doing,

Speaker:

how their nervous system is. It's a beautiful aspect of being an empath and

Speaker:

being a sensitive that we have the ability and desire to track other people

Speaker:

to track how they are doing and where they're at.

Speaker:

And it becomes untenable when we are literally trying to track

Speaker:

millions of nervous systems at one time.

Speaker:

So giving yourself a little bit of grace here and knowing that one of the things

Speaker:

that we do as empaths in particular with this tracking

Speaker:

propensity is that we perspective take.

Speaker:

So I know I remember this when I was a kid that when I first started learning

Speaker:

about really hard things on the planet,

Speaker:

like violence and atrocity and war and genocide and all of

Speaker:

those things that I would then obsessively perspective take,

Speaker:

like obsessively try to put myself into the position of someone who

Speaker:

was experiencing this kind of harm or oppression.

Speaker:

And this is just something that sensitives naturally do.

Speaker:

We just perspective take until we literally can't even feel anymore

Speaker:

what our perspective is or where we are at.

Speaker:

And so you're probably innately doing this, whether or not you even realize it,

Speaker:

whether or not you're even aware of it. The moment you hear a story,

Speaker:

any kind of story,

Speaker:

whether it's a story your friend told you or it's a story on the news,

Speaker:

you immediately jump into perspective taking of like,

Speaker:

what would it feel like to be that person? How would this feel my body?

Speaker:

What is the emotional landscape?

Speaker:

It's so beautiful because it gives us the ability to understand people,

Speaker:

to empathize with people,

Speaker:

to access unconditional love for those that we care about

Speaker:

and those who we encounter in this world.

Speaker:

And you can imagine that that's overwhelming for our bodies because not only are

Speaker:

we being exposed to stories, events, things that are hard to process,

Speaker:

but then we're doubling down by putting ourselves into that

Speaker:

situation in our minds and our consciousness and our emotional body. And our

Speaker:

bodies don't read that as something different than what's happening for us right

Speaker:

here, right now. So yes, of course, this will also cause a state of overwhelm.

Speaker:

We as empaths and sensitives are often processing other people's

Speaker:

emotions and collective fear.

Speaker:

And so not only are we taking on individual perspectives,

Speaker:

but we're kind of like this wide open container where we're doing

Speaker:

work in the collective to process collective energies as they're moving through

Speaker:

us. We're receptive to them,

Speaker:

and so we literally receive them and then we move them through ourselves.

Speaker:

And so all of these things

Speaker:

are things that make being a sensitive person just so very beautiful.

Speaker:

It's why we were created. It's why we are the way we are on this planet.

Speaker:

We are innate healers and transformers.

Speaker:

We carry templates for a way of being that the earth is in a

Speaker:

movement right now to return to within humanity. And you

Speaker:

can imagine,

Speaker:

especially in our interconnected world where we are exposed to frankly,

Speaker:

just way too much sensory detail and information on a daily basis that

Speaker:

sensitives,

Speaker:

us as sensitives will feel overwhelmed more often than not.

Speaker:

This is why we need this thing called energy hygiene.

Speaker:

So energy hygiene are practices that help you clear, regulate,

Speaker:

and replenish your nervous system.

Speaker:

Think about energy hygiene like a shower or a bath for your energy.

Speaker:

What ends up happening when you're sensitive, sensitive people, we care.

Speaker:

We can never stop caring. That's never going to end. So you care,

Speaker:

you care deeply.

Speaker:

And what happens is we end up over accumulating emotional residue and

Speaker:

charge from the world around us.

Speaker:

We accumulate and stay in a state of nervous system activation.

Speaker:

And this can cause things like mental noise, fog, exhaustion,

Speaker:

and overload. And so if you are experiencing those things,

Speaker:

you can know that you probably need a little bit of energy hygiene in your life.

Speaker:

And this goes hand in hand with boundaries.

Speaker:

I talked about boundaries a few podcasts ago. If you're interested in that,

Speaker:

definitely check that out, how to set boundaries to create new worlds.

Speaker:

We need emotional,

Speaker:

energetic and attention boundaries in order to

Speaker:

have the space that we need to process what is ours and let go of what is not

Speaker:

ours. And so this energy hygiene practices,

Speaker:

which I'm going to go into in a little bit,

Speaker:

these practices that will help you feel yourself again and release what's not

Speaker:

yours go hand in hand with setting the boundaries that you need so that you're

Speaker:

not constantly overgiving or constantly having things come into your field

Speaker:

that bombard you and make you unable to actually feel and access yourself.

Speaker:

Because at the end of the day, we as sensitives,

Speaker:

we're made to not only survive this world,

Speaker:

but to help humanity survive. And so your role

Speaker:

as a sensitive is first to understand how you can survive in any given

Speaker:

moment in time. And once you do that, once you know how to care for yourself,

Speaker:

even in the midst of bigness,

Speaker:

you become a force that helps humanity survival.

Speaker:

And not just our physical survival, but our emotional, energetic,

Speaker:

and spiritual survival as well. Sensitives,

Speaker:

we want the heart of humanity to survive.

Speaker:

We want our heart to be even more intact.

Speaker:

And it starts with knowing how to care for ourselves in a world that

Speaker:

contains a lot of bigness, a lot of intensity, and a lot of change right now.

Speaker:

The whole goal for us as sensitives is to continually come home to ourselves

Speaker:

because when we come home to ourselves, we have access to the energy,

Speaker:

perspective, power, and possibility that can create new worlds in this world,

Speaker:

that can feed, change, transformation,

Speaker:

revolution. And so it begins with coming home to ourselves and accessing our

Speaker:

power again.

Speaker:

So before I go into these five practices to help you come home to yourself,

Speaker:

I would love for you to just take a moment and think about the last time you

Speaker:

felt fully at home in yourself. Let's resource ourself in this moment.

Speaker:

When's the last time you felt like just really at home?

Speaker:

And as you concentrate on this and bring it to your awareness, I'm curious,

Speaker:

what was it that you were doing?

Speaker:

Maybe you can see yourself in your mind's eye, in that place,

Speaker:

in that time.

Speaker:

I'm curious if you were alone or with someone.

Speaker:

If you were with someone, who were you with? Was it a human?

Speaker:

Was it your animal companion?

Speaker:

And I just want you to bathe your nervous system for a second in this memory of

Speaker:

where you were, what you were doing, who you were with,

Speaker:

just really sensing that feeling inside of yourself of being home.

Speaker:

And now I want you to notice how much

Speaker:

power and energy you have access to now inside of yourself

Speaker:

for remembering this moment.

Speaker:

Think back to that moment where you were really at home in yourself.

Speaker:

Can you feel this sense of inhabiting your whole body?

Speaker:

This sense of energy flowing outwards from you,

Speaker:

this sense of creativity and possibility coming

Speaker:

online.

Speaker:

And I want you to just feel in a tactile way that energy inside of yourself now,

Speaker:

that power. Feel how fruitful that power is,

Speaker:

how that power can move things,

Speaker:

can change things. How just for existing in this world,

Speaker:

that power shifts the fabric of reality.

Speaker:

So that is what we're going to return to here when I talk about these five

Speaker:

practices for coming home to yourself, and this is why we do them,

Speaker:

so we can access this power,

Speaker:

this power that not only fuels us and our ability to be alive and survive on

Speaker:

this planet,

Speaker:

but that facilitates us to create the change we are meant to bring to this

Speaker:

planet through inhabiting ourselves fully and completely exactly

Speaker:

as we are. So these are five practices that I turn to,

Speaker:

especially when I feel overwhelmed in the world.

Speaker:

And I find that these five practices can really help create a pillar of

Speaker:

foundation and support so that you not only feel like, okay,

Speaker:

I think I can survive this world, but you also start to feel like, okay,

Speaker:

I am not only here for this, but I was designed for this.

Speaker:

I was made for this. I was made for this time for a reason. Okay.

Speaker:

So practice number one is to keep a palm stone in your pocket.

Speaker:

So I love working with stone medicine.

Speaker:

I think stone medicine is one of the most powerful medicines on this planet.

Speaker:

It is ancient. We have been a relationship with stones forever as human beings,

Speaker:

and there are a couple benefits of keeping a stone on you. First of all,

Speaker:

you get the energetic or metaphysical properties of that stone.

Speaker:

So a lot of empaths like to work with dark stones,

Speaker:

things like black tourmaline, for example,

Speaker:

or smokey quartz as a way to protect or shield their energy.

Speaker:

So if you feel like things are bombarding you all the time,

Speaker:

keep a black stone in your pocket. Slip it into your pocket,

Speaker:

or I definitely have known people who if they don't have pockets,

Speaker:

they put it in their bra,

Speaker:

but a way for it to be close to you. And even if it's possible for it to be on

Speaker:

your skin, this can also be really helpful.

Speaker:

I also love to keep pink stones in my pockets.

Speaker:

Pink stones help us release anxiety and panic.

Speaker:

Pink stones connect us to our heart again.

Speaker:

I find them to be very soothing for the emotional body.

Speaker:

Rose quartz is my absolute favorite, but I also love rotonite and rotochrosite.

Speaker:

So these are some of my all time favorites, but why keeping it on you?

Speaker:

Why keeping it in your pocket? Well,

Speaker:

beyond the fact that you're actually receiving that stone's energy,

Speaker:

it is helping to remind you of the intention that you're setting with that

Speaker:

stone. It is working with you and your energy and your consciousness,

Speaker:

and it's helping your nervous system to have an anchor point and have a

Speaker:

place where you can release tension.

Speaker:

So my favorite thing about having stones in my pockets is the way they become my

Speaker:

fidget toys. So fidget toys are actually really,

Speaker:

really helpful items to help us release energy in our nervous system.

Speaker:

So having any kind of fidget, and in this case,

Speaker:

I'm talking about having a stone in your pocket.

Speaker:

It's so wonderful when you have that stone in your pocket, how it warms up.

Speaker:

So it becomes your body temperature.

Speaker:

You can stick your head in your pocket and play around with the stone at any

Speaker:

point, pull it out, hold it, keep it in your palm.

Speaker:

And these sort of micro movements,

Speaker:

it prevents the body from going into overwhelm.

Speaker:

So this is why we do things like hair twirling or why we bounce our foot.

Speaker:

This is really helpful and regulating for us.

Speaker:

And it also keeps the energy circulating as well as discharging any nervous

Speaker:

energy. So you might have other fidget toys that you love,

Speaker:

but I just love the combination of the energetic medicine that stones bring

Speaker:

us,

Speaker:

the anchor point that they can help remind us of our intention with the stone,

Speaker:

and then the reality that they're just wonderful to hold onto. They're such nice

Speaker:

companions and make for really wonderful fidgets to have around.

Speaker:

So I recommend going either to a stone store or just walking around

Speaker:

outside and finding a stone that feels really good to hold in your hand.

Speaker:

That's really the only requirement.

Speaker:

Set an intention with that stone and then keep that stone with you,

Speaker:

especially when you go out into the world because it will really help you set

Speaker:

those boundaries,

Speaker:

release the built up energetic tension that you tend to accumulate throughout

Speaker:

your day and come back to your center.

Speaker:

The second practice for energy hygiene is to shower at night instead of in the

Speaker:

morning. So some of you might be morning showers out there and you're like,

Speaker:

"Aja,

Speaker:

I am not going to let go of that morning shower." And I'm not saying you have

Speaker:

to,

Speaker:

but I am saying that it is very helpful at the end of the day to have a shower,

Speaker:

even if it's adding on to your morning shower,

Speaker:

maybe having two showers a day. If you have access to running water and the

Speaker:

ability to do this,

Speaker:

showering at night is incredibly helpful for releasing

Speaker:

charges that are ready to go, ready to be composted,

Speaker:

ready to go back to the earth. Without even realizing at us as sensitives,

Speaker:

we pick up charges throughout the day.

Speaker:

And most of us actually have a really profound relationship with water because

Speaker:

we already recognize that water helps us to release those charges.

Speaker:

So my favorite practice at the end of a day is once my daughter's asleep,

Speaker:

once the tasks for the day are done,

Speaker:

I go and I take a shower and it doesn't matter whether or not I need that

Speaker:

shower. If I'm overwhelmed that day, I will be taking one.

Speaker:

And it doesn't even have to be long. It can just be a few minutes.

Speaker:

I don't wash my hair.

Speaker:

I put my hair up. I just let the warm water run over my body.

Speaker:

Not only is this very relaxing and soothing for our nervous system, obviously.

Speaker:

I mean, we were born before we were born,

Speaker:

we were created in a womb of warm water.

Speaker:

Warm water is one of the easiest and fastest ways to relax a nervous system.

Speaker:

As it moves over you, it's also releasing and cleansing away the day,

Speaker:

cleansing away the energies that you've picked up throughout the day.

Speaker:

And what I've noticed is that if I complete all those sort of the tasky stuff

Speaker:

before I shower, I shower and then it resets my energy,

Speaker:

especially if I'm feeling tired or I'm just like doomscrolling instead of

Speaker:

actually doing the things that will nourish me,

Speaker:

I will convince myself to put the phone down, to step away, go take a shower,

Speaker:

and then I often feel reinvigorated to do the things that are actually going to

Speaker:

feed me. I take quiet time for the rest of the night, time for myself,

Speaker:

time to nourish myself,

Speaker:

and it really helps me reset so that I can meet the next day feeling fresh

Speaker:

again. The third practice is to do a weekly tech Shabbat.

Speaker:

So when we go on our phone,

Speaker:

especially if we're logging into something like social media,

Speaker:

we are literally being exposed to thousands of nervous systems

Speaker:

every single time we do that. Even if you have your algorithm curated,

Speaker:

so you're only being shown things that you really care about or you find really

Speaker:

interesting or you find really funny,

Speaker:

the fact remains that when we enter that field,

Speaker:

we are interacting with thousands of nervous systems.

Speaker:

And remember how we talked about how as sensitive people,

Speaker:

we naturally track nervous systems.

Speaker:

It's just one of those things that we're going to do. Well,

Speaker:

you can imagine that being on your phone and being engaged in technology is

Speaker:

linking you into so many nervous systems,

Speaker:

so much energy in the collective that we don't even realize how much energy is

Speaker:

going towards that,

Speaker:

how much we're pouring into that. So one of my dearest friends in the whole

Speaker:

world observes an Orthodox Shabbat. And for the longest time,

Speaker:

we have all known that from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday,

Speaker:

she is unavailable. You cannot text her. You cannot call her.

Speaker:

You will hear from her again on Saturday night.

Speaker:

And so I was really inspired by this practice that she upholds for herself and

Speaker:

her family to start turning off my phone at Sundown Friday until sundown

Speaker:

Saturday every single week.

Speaker:

I have done this on and off now for years.

Speaker:

I was very consistent about it before my daughter was born.

Speaker:

After my daughter was born, some things shifted a little bit.

Speaker:

I felt like I needed to be able to communicate with caregivers, et cetera,

Speaker:

et cetera.

Speaker:

And now I'm at the space where I can really go back into this textShabot.

Speaker:

I have my life set up in a way where there are other ways to communicate. We

Speaker:

have our schedules, we have our programs.

Speaker:

And what I noticed when I started doing this again after a couple years of not

Speaker:

having done it,

Speaker:

is that it was literally shocking how much energy I had again,

Speaker:

just for turning off my phone for 24 hours. And there are workarounds for this.

Speaker:

You could get a landline if you still need to be in contact.

Speaker:

If you live with someone and they're not doing a textShabot,

Speaker:

you can let people know, "Hey, if there's emergency,

Speaker:

text them." So there are ways to do it where you still create the feeling of

Speaker:

connection or safety.

Speaker:

But what I often find is that even knowing that someone might text us,

Speaker:

even knowing that there are texts we still need to respond to,

Speaker:

it is a constant pull on our attention and our awareness and our energy.

Speaker:

Turning off the phone,

Speaker:

it's like there is a background sound going on the whole time,

Speaker:

like the dryer has been going on for hours and it goes off and all of a sudden

Speaker:

you don't even realize how loud I had been and how much you had been having to

Speaker:

deal with sensorially. And then it goes quiet and your whole body just

Speaker:

relaxes. That's how my weekly tech Shabbats feel.

Speaker:

It is actually magical what happens for me when I turn

Speaker:

my phone off for that 24 hours.

Speaker:

I also choose to turn off my computer and turn off TV to step

Speaker:

away from those devices altogether.

Speaker:

I normally find that Friday nights are the most creative nights of my week.

Speaker:

I end up having huge brainwaves and breakthroughs about what I need to do to

Speaker:

shift things around in my life to feel more alive, to feel more in tune.

Speaker:

I have creative breakthroughs. I relax in a way.

Speaker:

I don't relax any other time of the week. I'm more present with my daughter.

Speaker:

It's really incredible to see how much I

Speaker:

default to being engaged in and in tracking other things.

Speaker:

And when I take that away,

Speaker:

I see my capacity for presence. It's such a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Speaker:

This will interrupt the patterns that you have where you are giving away your

Speaker:

energy to your devices,

Speaker:

where you were plugged in in times where you really need to be attuned to

Speaker:

yourself.

Speaker:

I deeply recommend a 24-hour Shabbat if you can swing it.

Speaker:

If you cannot take a 24-hour break, design something that works for you.

Speaker:

Maybe it's a six-hour break.

Speaker:

Maybe it's setting limits on the apps on your phone and then sticking to it,

Speaker:

having a 15-minute limit on whatever app you know that you end up scrolling on

Speaker:

and kind of frittering away or giving away the time that you know you need for

Speaker:

yourself.

Speaker:

So there are steps and ways to create these limits and these boundaries.

Speaker:

But what I will say is that if you have the ability

Speaker:

to turn it all off, even just for a couple hours,

Speaker:

you will notice so much open up for you. And I want that for you.

Speaker:

I want you to have that space. I want you to have that time.

Speaker:

And the thing about sensitives is that we're here to know how to attune to

Speaker:

ourselves. For all of us, the answers are within, but for sensitives,

Speaker:

it's an extra big task in this lifetime because we're so

Speaker:

good at attuning to other people because we will naturally often put ourselves

Speaker:

second or put ourselves last.

Speaker:

It is at the heart of what we're here to do to learn how to attune to ourselves

Speaker:

first, to hear ourselves first. But that inner voice, it can be subtle,

Speaker:

it can be quiet. And so tuning out the distractions,

Speaker:

taking a literal break will help you hear the guidance within you so that it

Speaker:

will actually help you navigate everything else in your life.

Speaker:

It'll help you have the clarity and the perspective that you need to make the

Speaker:

changes you need in your life, to feel at home in yourself,

Speaker:

to sit at your center, to feel replenished,

Speaker:

to actually feel replenished by your nights or your mornings or your time. So

Speaker:

highly, highly recommend this.

Speaker:

If I could recommend any one thing for myself,

Speaker:

my past self, my future self as a reminder of like, "Hey,

Speaker:

it's possible to actually feel good again in life.

Speaker:

Here's the only thing you need to do is take a 24-hour break from your phone and

Speaker:

from technology,

Speaker:

and it works like a charm." The next practice is a practice

Speaker:

from Qigong and Taoism that I absolutely love.

Speaker:

And it's this practice called heaven and earth energy bathing.

Speaker:

So in Taoist understanding,

Speaker:

we have in the lower part of our body underneath our belly button,

Speaker:

there's this area called the lower dantian. This is our lower abdomen.

Speaker:

And in qigong, this is where your core energy reserve lives.

Speaker:

It's the root of our physical vitality. It's where we ground.

Speaker:

It's our basis for emotional regulation.

Speaker:

And so this practice,

Speaker:

sometimes it's called pouring light. I like heaven and earth energy bathing or

Speaker:

just energy bathing. The practice is this.

Speaker:

The practice is that you hover your hands at your low abdomen here,

Speaker:

this space where your energy reserves live.

Speaker:

Imagine filling up your hands with light, warmth, energy,

Speaker:

nectar,

Speaker:

and then lift your hands over the midline of your body,

Speaker:

up over your head.

Speaker:

Feel yourself actually lift this energy up and pouring it over your head like

Speaker:

a bath and really feel and see that energy moving,

Speaker:

not just down the front of your body, but down your whole back body as well.

Speaker:

And you can actually do this more than once.

Speaker:

So if you gather the energy, pour it over your head,

Speaker:

imagine it flowing over your head, replenishing you, nourishing you,

Speaker:

and then cycling back into this part in your low belly,

Speaker:

actually increase seeing the energy there and then pulling it up again and doing

Speaker:

it again. I particularly like to do this in moments when I already feel

Speaker:

nourished or when I just notice that I'm feeling really well.

Speaker:

I find that when I do this energy practice, it's giving me

Speaker:

energy, it's giving me life force.

Speaker:

It's almost like it's an energy bank for the times ahead,

Speaker:

for times when I might need to feel more of that energy.

Speaker:

And literally it's gathering up your chi, your life force,

Speaker:

and bathing yourself in your own chi.

Speaker:

And one thing that is really cool I will mention is that I started doing this

Speaker:

practice just intuitively before I found out that this was a practice in qigong

Speaker:

and in Taoism. And I just absolutely love that. I think this is very intuitive.

Speaker:

A lot of us, when we need resourcing, we place our hands over our low bellies,

Speaker:

we hold ourselves here.

Speaker:

And so this is just a natural extension of what will innately be drawn to

Speaker:

do to hold ourselves here is then to hold yourself,

Speaker:

hover your hands over this part of your body and then pour it over yourself and

Speaker:

allow it to percolate and to really see it percolating and filling

Speaker:

up yourselves with energy and vitality. In qigong,

Speaker:

there is this awareness that qi or energy follows Yi,

Speaker:

which is the intention.

Speaker:

And so sometimes what I find with highly sensitive people in particular is

Speaker:

that we want to do it right and

Speaker:

we want to really make it happen.

Speaker:

And the thing about this concept of ye is it's not about forcing,

Speaker:

it's not about effort. So it's not about how good can you do this practice.

Speaker:

It's more about this concept that gentle awareness is what guides energy.

Speaker:

Not hyper focus, not like busting butt,

Speaker:

it's gentle awareness that creates pathways for energy to flow.

Speaker:

So one way of thinking about this in Qigong,

Speaker:

I talk about the amount of energy you would use to hold a baby bird.

Speaker:

That's the kind of gentle awareness you want to hold as you

Speaker:

bring this energy up and flow it over yourself.

Speaker:

It's almost like the more gentle you can be in your awareness here,

Speaker:

the more that energy will flow. So try this practice out next time you're

Speaker:

feeling good or next time you're just in a moment that you want to remember,

Speaker:

you want to infuse into yourselves.

Speaker:

Try this energy bathing practice and notice how you can refill yourself.

Speaker:

Notice how you can feel nourished.

Speaker:

The final practice I want to give to you today is something called a oracle

Speaker:

walk. So I take oracle walks often.

Speaker:

I recommend you take oracle walks in a natural place, if possible,

Speaker:

or in a place where there are other beings, the more than human world.

Speaker:

So you don't have to be in pristine nature,

Speaker:

but walking through a park or walking through your neighborhood underneath the

Speaker:

trees. And an oracle walk is when I use these,

Speaker:

especially when I feel really overwhelmed,

Speaker:

when there's a lot of energy and charge inside of myself and I almost feel like

Speaker:

untouchable,

Speaker:

almost like nothing can get through. When I have that kind of feeling of like

Speaker:

literally like no nourishment is able to penetrate me right now, no perspective.

Speaker:

I'm just like, I don't even know.

Speaker:

I'm so overwhelmed and high energy and chaotic.

Speaker:

The activation is so big that I just feel like the nourishment I need can't get

Speaker:

through. This is when I'll do an oracle walk.

Speaker:

And so these oracle walks are where you ask nature to

Speaker:

come touch you. You're saying like, "Hey,

Speaker:

I'm having a really hard time releasing this charge. Please come touch me.

Speaker:

Please come reach out to me.

Speaker:

" And so what you are doing with an oracle walk is you are setting an intention

Speaker:

before you walk to ask the living world,

Speaker:

to ask the wisdom that lives in the earth and the wider world to come touch you,

Speaker:

to come reach you,

Speaker:

to come reach you where you are so that you can start to move out of this state

Speaker:

of freeze or fight,

Speaker:

flight or fawn that you're in. And so it's really simple. Oracle walks,

Speaker:

once you start walking, let go of whatever it is you're trying to process.

Speaker:

Just let your mind be free, whatever wants to be there.

Speaker:

But walk until you notice something calls to your attention.

Speaker:

Just be aware of your environment. Look around.

Speaker:

Look for the thing that feels like it's the message or the oracle,

Speaker:

the answer to your need to release and be seen

Speaker:

and connect to what's meaningful again.

Speaker:

This is a practice of letting the natural world mirror a truth back to you.

Speaker:

What you'll often find is that there's something on your walk,

Speaker:

whether it's big or whether it's little, that ends up calling your attention in,

Speaker:

that ends up really like providing this sense of relief or aha or just a sense

Speaker:

of grounding.

Speaker:

And this is a way to be in connection with nature,

Speaker:

to be in communication with the more than human world,

Speaker:

but it's also really, really helpful for our nervous system. And here's why,

Speaker:

especially as a sensitive,

Speaker:

we are used to tracking everything as I've mentioned before,

Speaker:

including other people and their nervous systems.

Speaker:

When we start doing things like an oracle walk where we're paying attention to

Speaker:

the more than human world,

Speaker:

we're shifting our tracker so that instead we're tracking nature.

Speaker:

Instead, we're tracking bird song, we're tracking trees,

Speaker:

we're tracking the wind. And this is so relieving for our nervous systems.

Speaker:

This is the kind of subtlety that we were designed to really, really,

Speaker:

really be attuned to.

Speaker:

And it can really help downregulate our nervous systems to create a sense of

Speaker:

more expansion and more possibility again,

Speaker:

to soften and release the energy and the charge that has built up within us so

Speaker:

that we can feel safe again in the world so that we can be open to the

Speaker:

nourishment and the guidance that wants to come in. Here is a little bonus too.

Speaker:

If you are on this oracle walk and you do feel a really big charge in your body,

Speaker:

one thing that I love to do is to move my body in a way that

Speaker:

helps me process this charge. So what do I mean by this?

Speaker:

So here's an example.

Speaker:

If I read something that day that just disgusts me that I just find absolutely

Speaker:

repulsive while I'm walking,

Speaker:

I might mime puking or just expulding it from my

Speaker:

body or shaking it off. It's almost like water from my body.

Speaker:

I might shake like I'm having something on my fingertips or shrugging off

Speaker:

a coat that feels icky.

Speaker:

Doing these movements actually really help us

Speaker:

somatically to complete the energy or the charge.

Speaker:

So often we have this charge inside of our body and our body wants to do

Speaker:

something to complete that circuit. So whatever it is you're feeling charged by,

Speaker:

ask yourself, what does your body want to do with that?

Speaker:

Or if it was a situation that happened in the past that you're ruminating on or

Speaker:

is bothering you in that moment, so what did your body want to do then?

Speaker:

Did you want to run away? Did you want to push someone?

Speaker:

Did you want to take your glove and slap someone across the face?

Speaker:

Whatever it is. Do that motion with your body as you walk.

Speaker:

Incorporate it into your walk.

Speaker:

And this will be just like extra bonus round of releasing that charge from your

Speaker:

body of completing that energy circuit and then opening yourself up again to

Speaker:

hear that quiet,

Speaker:

nourishing guidance inside of yourself to access once again,

Speaker:

your own life force, your own directionality and your own inner knowing.

Speaker:

So I hope that these five exercises are helpful. If you do these exercises,

Speaker:

I'd love to hear from you. How do they work for you?

Speaker:

Which one was your favorite?

Speaker:

You can leave me a comment if you're listening somewhere where there are

Speaker:

comments available or leave me a voice note over on my website,

Speaker:

asiasuler.com/remember. I love hearing your voices.

Speaker:

I love hearing stories from your day,

Speaker:

and I would love to hear how these land with you because at the end of the day,

Speaker:

being here on this planet as a sensitive, it's not just about surviving.

Speaker:

It's about knowing how to thrive, how to be nourished by our own energy,

Speaker:

how to be in our creative, passionate flow,

Speaker:

how to love in the way we want to love in this world,

Speaker:

to be nourished by the way in which we love and the way in which we want to give

Speaker:

love,

Speaker:

to be transmuters of energy on this planet. As I said

Speaker:

before, highly sensitive people, we were designed to help humanity survive,

Speaker:

to help the heart of humanity not only survive, but thrive.

Speaker:

And so you are this powerfully attuned instrument of

Speaker:

change and powerful instruments often need

Speaker:

extra care. It's just how it goes.

Speaker:

So I recently decided to start trying to learn violin.

Speaker:

I have wanted to play violin since I was such a little girl and a friend of

Speaker:

mine gifted me a violin years ago and it has just been sitting in its case

Speaker:

and I've been too overwhelmed to start, but I finally sensed this energy,

Speaker:

this space, this capacity myself this year.

Speaker:

So I got the violin out and I'm just learning very, very basics with it.

Speaker:

And I realized once I got this violin out that it has been sitting in storage

Speaker:

for over 10 years and that violin needs some TLC, I realized, oh,

Speaker:

I need to take this violin into the shop. It needs new strings.

Speaker:

It needs just like extra care because it's such an exquisite

Speaker:

instrument.

Speaker:

Exquisite instruments need extra care and then they can

Speaker:

produce exquisite creations.

Speaker:

You are an exquisite instrument.

Speaker:

You are deserving of this level of care because what you can

Speaker:

create, what you can emanate into this world is life changing.

Speaker:

It is world shifting. It is incredibly, incredibly healing.

Speaker:

In the times to come, as we continue to move through these big changes,

Speaker:

we are going to need the artists, the healers, the seers, and yes,

Speaker:

the sensitives because the bigness of this time,

Speaker:

it is going to continue to unfurl.

Speaker:

It's not about waiting for the bigness to end.

Speaker:

It's about accessing the center of ourselves in a way

Speaker:

where we can meet the bigness and we can actually see ourselves unfold

Speaker:

in response to this invitational bigness in the world where we can actually

Speaker:

feel more of ourselves. We can access more of ourselves.

Speaker:

We can access more of our creativity, our energy, our potential,

Speaker:

and the healing that we are meant to bring to this world.

Speaker:

So if this is resonating with you,

Speaker:

if you are ready to truly thrive on this planet as a

Speaker:

sensitive, I would love to journey with you in Earth Angel School.

Speaker:

We are getting ready to get started next week.

Speaker:

The group that has gathered already is incredible.

Speaker:

This community just absolutely blows me away.

Speaker:

If you are someone that wants to learn how to work with your sensitivity

Speaker:

to unlock the gifts you came into this world carrying,

Speaker:

if you want to create a life that actually supports your nervous system,

Speaker:

if you want to make clear decisions,

Speaker:

know which way to go with guidance from your deepest self and be able to connect

Speaker:

to your widest knowing. If you want to be able to set boundaries with ease,

Speaker:

the boundaries that you need to thrive and discover the role that you came here

Speaker:

to play on this planet,

Speaker:

come join me. This is a intimate 12-week program.

Speaker:

It is by far the most personal thing I do,

Speaker:

I offer in the world. We gather for weekly classes together,

Speaker:

discussion groups.

Speaker:

I get to hear about you and your heart and you get to receive what you need

Speaker:

to feel truly in your power in this world to understand who you are,

Speaker:

why you're here and the gifts you have to bring.

Speaker:

It's amazing what can happen on the other side of learning these practices,

Speaker:

these tools and these reframes. So as one of our students, Laura said,

Speaker:

"I feel so much lighter now in my soul, more peaceful, stronger, and confident.

Speaker:

I also feel excited about my future like I haven't for a very long

Speaker:

time. I was unsure about the cost at first,

Speaker:

but I can honestly say it was worth it. This class absolutely changed me.

Speaker:

" So if you're feeling the call, if it feels like it's your time,

Speaker:

I would love to have you in the program. We only open enrollment once a year and

Speaker:

enrollment is closing next week on April 15th.

Speaker:

So know that who you are is important.

Speaker:

Your sensitivity is a gift.

Speaker:

It is here to help this heart of humanity survive,

Speaker:

and it begins with you being willing to tend to the gorgeous

Speaker:

exquisite being that you are, this being that is capable of so much creativity,

Speaker:

so much healing, so much potential, and so much resonance in this world.

Speaker:

Your energy is what shifts this world.

Speaker:

Your energy is deserving of safeguarding.

Speaker:

It's deserving of sanctuary.

Speaker:

So as we move into this world and more and more things

Speaker:

unfurl or present themselves to you,

Speaker:

may you remember that there is a center inside of yourself that is untouchable.

Speaker:

May you remember that you are important to the unfolding of this world.

Speaker:

May you remember that the way in which you care for your energy and you

Speaker:

resource again in your own creativity is an essential nourishment to this

Speaker:

world and may you remember that most important thing of all,

Speaker:

why you're here.
