Hello, welcome once again to the Enjoy More 30s

Family Finance podcast. We are working through The Financial

Parables of Your Life. Some are parables, some are fables, some

are stories, but they're all things that you're probably

somewhat familiar with. And so each week, I'm sharing one of

them with you, because stories are just really powerful ways to

remember information, whether it be financial stuff or anything

else. So as always, before I begin, please share and like,

So today, please join me for our story, The Lion and the Mouse. A

lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his

paws. A timid little mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in

her fright and haste to get away, ran across the lion's

nose. Roused from his nap, the lion laid his huge paw angrily

on the tiny creature to kill her. "Spare me!" begged the poor

mouse. "Please let me go and someday I will surely repay

you." The lion was much amused, but let the mouse go. What

abilities could a mouse have that a lion would need? Some

days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the lion was

caught in the toils of a hunter's net. He tried in every

way he knew how, but was unable to free himself. He pondered

what he should do next. Just then the mouse came by. "While

you are capable of many things that I am not, this is a task

where I can be of help." She gnawed it until it parted and

soon the lion was free. The lion was quite grateful. And with

their newfound friendship, the mouse was not only able to

assist the lion from getting out of any net, but also avoiding

them in the first place.

We are all well suited for very different things, we all have

what some might call our unique abilities. We also all have

things that we are not well suited for, or even enjoy doing.

I know I am certainly having lots of items in that category.

It doesn't even have to mean you're necessarily incompetent

at something, it may just mean that you aren't as competent as

somebody else might be. So I'm a financial advisor. I deal with

money. You might assume that I'm good with anything that has to

do with money. But there could very well be somebody else that

does something like filing my taxes, that they can do it

better than I can. So I don't do my own taxes. I have my

accountant that does that because that's their specialty.

That's all they do. They file taxes for hundreds of people

every single year. How can I possibly be better at filing my

taxes than that person? So when we talk about financial

planning, if designing your own financial plan is something that

is a unique ability of yours, that's fantastic. Hopefully,

some of what I'm sharing can enhance that ability for you,

make it as good as it can possibly be. If it is not, I

would encourage you not to try to figure it out yourself or ask

your accountant or worse even just ignore it altogether. Find

someone who specializes in financial planning, somebody

that does hundreds of them every year, and let them help you get

out of or preferably avoid any nets that may be in your way.
