Speaker:

It's that time of year again, when

plants start to push up from the earth,

2

:

trees start budding and allergies go.

3

:

Absolutely fucking ape shit.

4

:

But it's also the time of year when I

plan out my flower and vegetable gardens.

5

:

And I absolutely love this time of year.

6

:

And if you've ever attended one of

my keynotes, you know, that I always

7

:

talk about how I plan out my garden

in early may and how networking and

8

:

business development relationships.

9

:

Are like vegetables.

10

:

Welcome to episode 1

94 of this shit works.

11

:

A podcast dedicated to all

things, networking, relationship

12

:

building and business development.

13

:

I'm your host, Julie Brown.

14

:

Speaker author and networking coach.

15

:

And today I'm talking about how some

of your relationships are radishes.

16

:

Summer tomatoes and others.

17

:

Well, They can end up being zucchinis.

18

:

So the first weekend is may

is a very busy one for me.

19

:

I go to various nurseries and

pick out all the annuals that

20

:

I will plant in my flowerpots.

21

:

It's usually a mixture

of petunias, geranium.

22

:

Snapdragons potato vine,

cosmos zinnias and more.

23

:

This is also the time I plan my veggie

garden, which I do mix up from year

24

:

to year, but tends to contain things

like radishes, kale, jalapeno, pepper,

25

:

zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers at plant.

26

:

Whatever I'm feeling that year.

27

:

Now.

28

:

The radishes and the

kale I grow from seed.

29

:

Everything else is planted from a

starter that I buy at the nursery.

30

:

Every seed or plant may get put in

the garden at the same time, but they

31

:

sure don't grow at the same rate.

32

:

And I certainly don't harvest

them at the same time either.

33

:

It's a long growing season from may to

late August and sometimes into September.

34

:

And each vegetable will

grow at its own pace.

35

:

So.

36

:

Let's explore a few of these vegetables as

if they were our networking and business

37

:

relationships that we are also nurturing.

38

:

Radishes.

39

:

Ah, These are the whirlwind connections

that leave you breathless with

40

:

anticipation, just like radishes sprouting

up in the blink of an eye, literally

41

:

from seed to harvest is four weeks.

42

:

These business relationships

seem to materialize overnight.

43

:

One moment you're exchanging

business cards and the next you're

44

:

sealing the deal and reaping the

rewards of your collaboration.

45

:

Why do some business relationships

move at the speed of light?

46

:

Well, probably much like in the

world of romance, it could be due to

47

:

various factors, shared goals, mutual

interests, or just plain luck timing.

48

:

Sometimes you meet a potential client

or partner who aligns perfectly with

49

:

your vision or what you do is exactly

the service they need at that time.

50

:

There's lots of different factors.

51

:

And before you know it, you're

shaking hands and dive in headfirst

52

:

into a fruitful partnership.

53

:

Now.

54

:

Tomatoes while they're on the other

end of the spectrum, the slow, steady

55

:

dance of business relationships

that will test your patience.

56

:

But yield sweet rewards in the ends.

57

:

Like tomatoes, ripening under the

summer sun not being harvested all

58

:

the way to the end of the summer.

59

:

These connections take

their time to mature.

60

:

You plant the seed of collaboration,

nurture it with care and patiently

61

:

wait for it to bear fruit.

62

:

But.

63

:

Why the delay, why are wired

tomatoes taken so long?

64

:

Well, Tomatoes need ample

time to grow and ripen.

65

:

Some business relationships

require patience, persistence,

66

:

and a whole lot of TLC.

67

:

Maybe you're building trust,

negotiating terms, or simply taking

68

:

time to get to know each other

before diving into a partnership.

69

:

Whatever the reason, remember that

good things come to those who wait.

70

:

Now.

71

:

Let's talk about suckiness.

72

:

Hmm.

73

:

The humble zucchini, the unsung

hero or the vegetable patch and

74

:

the ultimate lesson in timing.

75

:

You see.

76

:

Zucchinis or like business relationships

that require constant vigilance.

77

:

If you neglect them for too long, they

grow oversized watery late in was seeds,

78

:

rendering them practically unusable.

79

:

You may also get way too

many zucchinis at once.

80

:

You literally cannot handle

the zucchini overload.

81

:

That's where your network comes in handy.

82

:

By forging connections within your

industry and even your competitors, you

83

:

can create a support system where others

can lend you a hand when you need it.

84

:

And you can share the load when

things get too hectic for you.

85

:

So.

86

:

Remember friends.

87

:

Timing is key in the garden of

business relationships, whether you're

88

:

harvesting radishes, waiting on those

tomatoes or wrangling zucchinis,

89

:

stay vigilant and stay connected.

90

:

Okay friends.

91

:

Onto the drink of the week, And

even though I'm done with my 21

92

:

days, so we're fitness challenge.

93

:

I've enjoyed all of the mocktails so

much that I'm bringing you another one.

94

:

As the drink of the week, this week.

95

:

So., the drink of the week

is the Virgin cucumber Gimlet

96

:

from ocean prime restaurant.

97

:

Here's what you're going to need.

98

:

One and a half ounces of club soda,

four to five slices of muddled

99

:

cucumber, one ounce of Fresh lime juice.

100

:

and one ounce of symbol syrup.

101

:

Where you're going to do is you're

going to combine all ingredients

102

:

in a shaker and with ice, and then

shake, shake, shake, shake, shake.

103

:

And then serve in a rocks

glass over crushed ice and

104

:

garnished with a rolled cucumber.

105

:

So like slice the cucumber and then

like do that little wavy thing and put

106

:

it on a stick and put it in the drink.

107

:

All right friends.

108

:

That's all for this week.
